1859 / AEG [TV]

List of fault symptoms:
- Grey picture at switch on and sound which disappears after 15 mins. Grey screen with frizzy line on the sides when pressing G2.
- Intermittently line tearing in the middle (approx. 20cm wide). (with circuit diagram extract)

- No control and cannot be switched off when started up from standby.

- Bright picture. on the right. Dark picture. on the left. (picture attached)
- Horizontal jitter. when cold. (1859 tip from AEG)
- Dark picture. Stripes after a while. OK after warm-up. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Poor PSU start up. Severe crackle in the loudspeaker.
- Eliminate safety mode of PSU.
- At switch ON, set screams. Pressing on the on/off switch gives same condition. Standby LED's off. (AEG - 1859 information)

- Noise in audio. (picture attached)
- Picture shaking in a random direction. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Defective linearity.
- No picture content. Picture is greyish. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- After approx 20 mins colour TV switches off.
- Resistor R775 is defective.
- White screen, horizontal lines without video signal. OK on scart output T971 OK IC950 OK. No beam limiter on 15 of IC950. Flash on the screen when changing channels.
- No vertical deflection. Horizontal line. Audio OK . (picture attached)
- PSU starts briefly, then no more HV. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Bright raster. Flyback lines.
- Black bar on the right side of the screen. Similar to displacement. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Occasionally blue screen. Picture ok when G2 adjusted then disappears again. When pressed too much picture remains incorrect then disappears.
- White screen. Flyback lines.
- Does not switch ON. No power light showing.
- Vertical IC fails. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Poor vertical linearity at the bottom, also E/W error.
- Does not go into TXT mode. Mixed mode possible.
- No HT output from power supply. OK in standby. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Motorboating noise at switch on. Pin 13 of the TDA8372A is unsoldered. TV no longer pulsates. Power supply voltages ok. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Poor shading of picture, dark on one side and light on the other. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Text selection is not possible, takes only Mix or full text but not both. Also various other functions are defective.
- When TV started up, transistor (S2000AF) instantly burn out. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Motorboating noise at switch on then goes into standby. When frame IC is unsoldered TV starts up. (picture attached) (service info for AEG -1859)
- After transporting an appliance, the first time it starts up there may be distorted playback of colour (flickering, drop out or stripes) and/or defective teletext playback.
- Distorted vertical linearity. Barrel distortion. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Horizontal white line.
- When the appliance is switched on it goes into undefined operating conditions ie. in spite of correct operating voltages the appliance has eg. no picture, no sound, no display etc.
- Focus problem. Blurred vertically, ok horizontally after replacing microprocessor and line transformer.
- Impossible to adjust the horizontal synchronization. Picture has shifted 10cm to the left. TDA 8372A on pin 20 has already been replaced, sandcastle incorrect. Power supply is good. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- The picture is too large and wavers.
- No functions.
- At switch on, functions but with no picture. By pressing the CRT module it unblocks and the picture appears. Predominant colour depends on the pressure used.
- Does not go into text mode, mix mode is not possible.
- No colour (intermittently).

- Brightness differs between left and right hand side of the screen.

- Black screen. Display flashes once at switch on.
- Line transformer starts up with an amplitude of 400V blemished by many interference lines.
- Cycles on/off.

- White horizontal stripe about 5 cm from the bottom. Picture content bellow stripe is altered and noisy.
- Loud noise. at start-up. (AEG - 1859 information)
- In a grey area - independent of colour saturation - you can see 2 vertical zones approx 15cm wide, greeny blue in colour with coloured edges.

- Unusual TXT.
- Programmes change by themselves. RC is OK. (AEG - 1859 information)
- Poor audio.

- Line BU is abnormally hot.
- Vertical or horizontal picture shaking both when hot and cold. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Slow start-up. when cold. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Does not start from Standby. (1859 tip from AEG)
- 88 shown on LED display.
- Convex picture. Defective lower linearity. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Top third of screen has ragged vertical lines.
- No start up after changing FBT and constant whistling noise. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Very pale picture which is shifted to the left. Voltage is correct. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- No audio (when cold). (AEG - 1859 information)
- Picture takes 15 secs. to appear. Sound ok and EHT present.
- At switch on, lights light up for an instant, voltage which ought to reach 145V increases to 60V but then goes back to 0V. (picture attached)
- PSU switches from standby to safety mode at switch on.
- No TXT (intermittently).
- Switches to standby when mains switch is plugged in. Switches off when using RCU. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Starts with noise (approx. 2-3 seconds), then it operates normally. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- No start-up (when cold).
- The plug receptacle of the teletext decoder, which is contained in the additional component, does not fit mechanically into the socket receptacle of the appliance chassis. (1859 tips)
- At the top edge of the picture an unusual stain effect appears and line tearing.
- Blocked control processor.
- Appliance whistles. Sound and picture present. Picture interference (lines approx one centimeter apart over the whole of the picture).

- Picture tearing.
- Vertical line tearing. intermittently.

- Pincushion distortion.
- Picture only appears about 3 mins after switch on, when appliance is cold.
- Intermittent block.

- If switched to standby, appliance pulsates and can be heard in loudspeakers. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Bright vertical stripes. No picture content. Sound OK. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Whistling HT. No start up due to incorrect HT frequency. May blow S2000 immediately. (+ extract of circuit diagram)

- No tuning. only on certain channels. Dark screen. on the right.
- No tuning. Higher channels in band I/III/V are not received.

- Can be switched to standby only if power plug is pulled out.
- No horizontal synchronisation. at start-up. (picture attached)
- Horizontal synchronisation fault even after replacing TDA8372. Weak adjustment with pot R634. Line synchronisation OK. Comparator OK. Horizontal linearity is OK. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Ok with signal. Without signal: unstable line frequency, line stage transformer makes a loud whistling noise and T511 (scanning transistor) shorts. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Lines in picture.
- Faint and too dark picture. Low brightness, contrast cannot be adjusted. Colour is adjustable.
- No HV.
- Approx 20cm wide dark area in centre of picture and line tearing.
- No synchronisation (after start-up). (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Picture goes off after 1 minute; very low contrast, ok through scart. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Attempts to start with no result. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Does not switch on. Fluttering noise from the loudspeakers. (with circuit diagram extract)
- No start up after changing IC601. Nothing lights up on the front.
- Blanking interval on left side of picture, colour flickers and screen dark after a while.
- E/W-fault.
- Whenever a function is requested display lights up then switches off.
- Programming menu can not be accessed. (picture attached)
- Motorboating noise at switch on. When you change IC701 the TV starts up again, it is possible to switch it off and to start it up by using standby. Otherwise, the fault starts again. (part of circuit diagram displayed)

- No functions. Red LED does not flash.
- Shadowing effect, left side of picture is brighter than the right one. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Picture collapse on half of the picture.

- Blue, vertical stripe in the right third of the picture.

- AV correction.
- Tripping.
- No picture. Hum in audio.

- After the appliance is switched off a large spot of light appears for several seconds in the middle of the screen. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- E/W trapezium does not function.

- Intermittent loss of brightness, picture is black. Can be adjusted with RC. Or vice versa, picture is too light and can be adjusted.
- Only standby LED lit. LED switches off at switch on then no function.
- Brightness varies. E/W fault. intermittently.

- White point when switching off with ON/OFF switch. No point in standby.

- Afterglow on deflection tube after switch off.

- No PSU start-up.
- The teletext contrast is considerably too high after installing the teletext decoder.
- Long picture at start up, black screen with rainbow spots.
- Coloured lines (RGB test lines) in top of picture.

- Picture is out of alignment horizontally. 10cm black bar on the right. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Remains in standby. Starts up when wiper forced. 88 on display. No picture and no sound. Goes into standby as soon as switch is released. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Picture has moved approx 10cm to the left. Vertical black bar with a few coloured streaks. Colour OK. (picture attached)
- Picture shifted to the right.
- Only blue light at right in picture. (service info for AEG -1859)
- Picture and sound missing. Via scart socket with video recorder OK (with circuit diagram extract)
- Enter service mode.
- No vertical deflection. intermittently.
- Vertical IC (TDA3654) becomes hot, then fails after several hours. Picture OK. (picture attached)
- Vertical, bright stripe faintly visible in the right third of the picture.
- Goes into safety mode at switch on. If FBT is unsoldered then HT is re-established. No apparent S/C in secondary of FBT. (part of circuit diagram displayed)

- Too wide picture and East/West pincushion curving outward. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Vertical and horizontal synchronisation available only after 2 mins.
- Low brightness. Picture too big. (1859 tips)

- High voltage build up for short time then PSU switches off. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Unclear picture with Hum content.
- Picture is too wide. E/W distorted.
- White, horizontal lines at the top of the picture. Lines decrease after a while but never disappear completely.
- Black bars on the bottom of picture. If V-amplitude is altered, picture disappears on the bottom. (picture attached)
- Vertical hum bars on picture, sometimes very visible and sometimes hardly at all.
- PSU is defective. 300V is present.

- Picture with a 10cm vertical band on the right side. Negative picture behind this black band.
- Random operation commands.
- Dead. after start-up.
- Power supply seems to remain in safety mode. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- High voltage transistor (S2000) defective. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Line synchronisation available only after 2 mins.
- Blank screen with purple haze at left hand side. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- PSU pulsates. Sound crackles. After few secs. appliance works fine.

- Stops after 5 seconds. No standby LED. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Secondary voltages appear for 1 to 2 secs. then nothing else. Standby LED switches off.
- Only snow in the picture, after changing the tuner the fault is still there.

- When appliance receives in Nicam stereo, the TV goes into PAL.
- Horizontal jitter. Vertical jitter. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- When ON/OFF switch is pressed LED lights up and then switches off. If line BU is replaced by lamp, it lights up and collector goes down to 124V instead of 155V. (picture attached)
- Stuck in standby.
- Buzzing at start-up.
- High voltage runs high. Flashover all over.
- Output transistor (S2000) fails when started from cold.
- No horizontal or vertical deflection.
- Vertical jitter. when cold. (service info for AEG -1859)
- Line foldover by start-up. No sound. After warm-up, picture and sound are OK. Sync is still unstable.
- Switches off completely after switch on. No standby function. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Collapses at start up, then switches off.
- Channel TF1 (channel 22) does not hold in SECAM: remains in PAL. The other channels are normal.
- No TXT.
- Approx. 1cm bright, vertical line on the right hand side of the picture approx. 10cm from the edge.
- Hums at switch on, dies out slowly.
- As described in the manual it is possible to operate the video recorder on all program places through the aerial. But some appliances only change over on channels 37-39.
- Operation commands are not carried out.
- Noise in picture. Poor horizontal synchronisation.
- Intermittently line transistor defective at start up. Fault also occurs intermittently in channel search or when switching to another channel. Once appliance runs, it runs well.
- Dark picture. intermittently.
- Line transformer starts up but no display, nothing on the screen and no sound. (picture attached)
- Standby display lights up for a short time. Line output stage attempts to function, but switches off immediately. (1859 tip from AEG)
- Hum bars, especially on yellow or orange background.
- Especially when cold some channels are not in the French standard. They remain in FM sound and inverted video. When warm and when changing programme suddenly picture and sound appear correctly. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- PSU fails intermittently. (picture attached)
- Line output stage fails at switch on. With load (lamp) appliance can be switched on with squeaking noise. (picture attached)

- Front LED briefly lights up at switch on then it switches off. LED remains lit when mains plug is connected and disconnected but it definitely switches off at start up. (AEG - 1859 information)

- No picture (intermittently).
- Unstable horizontal picture.
- Picture shifted to the left, too small and not adjustable. (+ extract of circuit diagram)

- Reduced contrast, especially on one side of the screen.
- No colour.
- Horizontal stripe. in the centre.
- LED lights up briefly then nothing more.
- Picture with vertical and horizontal lines (when cold).
- Picture shifted to the left. Alignment works normally. (picture attached)
- Picture distorted, shifted upwards and a little bit too wide.
- Switches on for a short time with RC, then switches off. "I" and "II" flicker on display. LED doesn't light. Starts up again with RC, if previously disconnected from mains.
- Vertical curtain-like stripes which may be distributed over the entire screen. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Line BU voltage = 140V. Value of capacitor C701 (in PSU) illegible. Still no display if line BU disconnected. (with circuit diagram extract)
- At Power On standby LED switches off immediately after switching on.
- NICAM check.
- PSU can not be loaded with 60W incandescent lamp.
- Vertical collapse. (picture attached)
- From a cold start line output stage transistor fails.

- Few segments of the display too bright. Doesn't respond to commands.
- Horizontal picture position is incorrect, 5cm to the left. No picture intermittently. (extract of circuit diagram attached)

- Transistor T701 fails when appliance is switched off and on. (1859 AEG repair tip)
- Rattling noise or bubbling at start-up (when cold). (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- At switch on picture is condensed tnen enlarged. Pops loudly at approx 2 pulses per sec. Intermittent blast from speakers. (picture attached)
- Excessive vertical size. Vertical foldover at bottom.
- HT starts up, appliance switches off immediately. Power supply with lamp OK but documentation states voltage must be 60-100V when pin 4 of line transformer disconnected and lamp connected to D765 60-100V. Voltage in this case is 145V.
- Automatic B/G-L detection does not work correctly with the Nicam sound carrier (TF1, FRANCE 2).
- Dark screen, only diffuse glow.
- Picture is distorted and changes. Loss of colours. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Remains in standby after changing power IC. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Picture amplitude is too weak.
- No start-up from standby.
- Dark screen at start up. Line transformer ok with flyback lines. Top 2 or 3 lines ok. In PB apparently functions around the IC TDA8372A. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Horizontal shaking. when cold.
- Loses sync at start-up for a few minutes.
- PSU cannot be started from Stand By. 145V voltage in an unloaded condition is at approx 105V, the connected lamp does not light up, the voltage then collapses to approx 20V. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Standby display lights up briefly, then no function.
- No functions. after a while.
- Stuck in standby; RC ineffective. Stanby LED flickers. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Poor line and picture synchronisation when cold.
- Power supply hiccups.
- Dark picture on 2/3 of screen on the left but brighter on 1/3 of screen on the right. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Reduced vertical size.

- Line frequency changes downward (squeaking, whistling).
- Goes into PAL reception when in NICAM reception on channel 64, programme N1.
- Poor synchronisation. No picture. after a while.
- Time constant switching over only occurs on memory sites 37 to 39 and AV.
- Will not select text, or will only select mix or full text but not both, various other functions faulty.

- One side of picture is black.

- Display flashing and rattles at switch on. (picture attached)
- Vertical lines. No colour. after a while.

- Insufficient picture heigth (10cm) and severe linear distortion.
- Switches to standby (intermittently).

- Vertical dark bands running from left to centre of picture and separated by approx. 5cm. (service info for AEG -1859)

- No raster sync in HF. Ok in scart. (picture attached)

- Dark picture.

- Horizontal line.
- Blank raster.
- Resistor R515 becomes defective. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Sound channel 1 and 2 voltage level adjustment.
- At start up the power supply starts up for 2 secs then the appliance apparently goes into safety mode. No fault on the secondary.
- EHT is heard starting up then everything stops 4 secs later.
- Black picture. Sound OK. Picture is OK after restart. (picture attached)
- T501 fails repeatedly.
- NICAM is missing.

- Power supply defective after a few days. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Line transistor S2000AF defective at switch on from cold. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- At switch on appliance pulsated then reverts to standby again.
- Picture is brighter on the right. Poor synchronisation after program switch-over. Picture becomes brighter and darker in AV. (part of circuit diagram displayed)

- Does not start up each time. When it functions, whistling and modulation of picture. This gets less in time.
- No tuning.
- Cuts out after switch on, soft hum from the speakers in standby mode.

- Intermittent flyback lines. Grey scale varies intermittently. Possibly no picture.
- HV builds up briefly and then shuts down
- PSU doesn't start-up or only after a while. Cracking sound.
- Dead.
