List of fault symptoms:

Moving mechanism loads fully then stops and locks up when PB or REC selected. (VHSA6741C tips)
When PB or REC selected, mechanism fully loads then shutsdown.
Tape speed suddenly slows and eventually stops. Horizontal noise bars travel vertically through picture. Audio slow. Usually on SP speed.
When switched on, tries loading non-existing tape, then switches off after approx 5 secs.
When PB or REC selected, tape loads, runs then shutsdown after few secs.
