CT3693 / FIRSTLINE [TV]

List of fault symptoms:
  • Reduced vertical size.
  • Muted audio. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Colour adjustment (black). (FIRSTLINE - CT3693 information)
  • Adjusting the audio trap.
  • Distorted picture via HF, via scart perfect picture and sound.
  • No picture in AV.
  • At switch on black band 10 cm from the top of the screen disappearing little by little or when reducing the brightness. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Vertical foldover at top.
  • Horizontal jitter. Squealing from PSU.
  • Dead.
  • Dark screen.
  • Narrow dull picture and line tearing with cogging effect. (CT3693 tip from FIRSTLINE)
  • No picture and no sound. OK with RC.
  • No raster after power supply fault (Z 12V).
  • No TXT.
  • No EHT or heater.
  • Black screen with 2 colured lines visible at the top of the screen. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Picture reception, no sound, general commands do not function.
  • Screen width is 10cm short on each side.
  • When changing channels, pumping or flickering of the picture for 2 or 3 seconds according to the strength of the HF signal. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • No picture. Dark screen. Sound OK.
  • Power supply.
  • Bright white with flyback lines. (picture attached)
  • One channel missing, probably NICAM.
  • Image has green glimmer and overdrive. (picture attached)
  • Trips at 1HZ, chirping sound. (FIRSTLINE - CT3693 information)
  • No raster.
  • Low vertical deflection (picture only approx. 3cm high).
  • No functions.
  • Reduced horizontal size. Torn picture.
  • Vertical approx 1in short top and bottom. Insufficient vertical size control.
  • Vertical collapse. after a few minutes.
  • Various intermittent functions.
  • No picture. No sound. Red LED lights. No start-up with RC.
  • Severe picture curling (coding effect).
  • Bright picture. Flyback lines.
  • Slow start-up.
  • Adjusting the white BRP.
  • Picture appears late with blotches. Low horizontal size.
  • Takes a long time to come on and when it does the picture rolls or teletext characters appear at random.
  • Line tearing. Reduced horizontal size.
  • After approx 5 mins picture disappears occasionally then reappears. Then appliance can no longer be operated by the RCU. After switching on and off, the fault repeats once more.
  • No e.h.t. and no tube heater supply.
  • Bright raster. Flyback lines.
  • No line drive.
  • Blank screen. after a while.
  • Picture flashes for a few seconds at channel switch-over.
  • No vertical deflection. Black screen.
  • No sound, no picture. When pushing the G2 a 5cm high white line appears. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • F801 blown.
  • No picture. No audio.
  • No picture, no sound. When unplugging and plugging back in to mains, it turns on immediately. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • R801 (2R2/5W) O/C and TR801 (BU508A) S/C.
  • Blank raster. intermittently.
  • No picture. If adjusting brightness control, screen display reacts correctly, but picture brightness does not increase at all.
  • Reduced vertical deflection.
  • No picture. via SCART. Audio OK .

  • Permanent display on Screen. Full volume and brightness.
  • Does not switch to standby. (FIRSTLINE - CT3693 information)
  • No HV.
  • No manual operation.
  • Horizontal buzz in the picture. (FIRSTLINE - CT3693 information)
  • No brightness control.
  • Snow. No channels. (CT3693 tip from FIRSTLINE)
  • Low level mono sound, NICAM OK.
  • Stuck in standby.
  • Adjusting the G2.
  • No EHV.
  • Adjusting the FM demodulator.
  • Video demodulator AFC adjustment.
  • Switches to standby. intermittently.
  • No 12V supply.
  • Audio stages.
  • NICAM module.
  • Picture has collapsed at the side, lines ragged in part.
  • Vertical deflection has failed. Line width approx 1 cm.
  • Stuck in standby (intermittently).
  • Difficult start up; narrow frame; power supply is low.
  • Colour decoder, chroma path.
  • Picture has collapsed at the sides and lines are frayed.
  • Loss of channel memory after a few days.
  • Picture only approx 2cm high. No reception
  • 2 cm wide horizontal stripe.
  • Dead, brief rustle of EHT.
  • No voltage.
  • Vertical collapse.
  • Dark picture. Audio OK .
  • Squealing from PSU.
  • No picture.
  • Mono audio, red OSD, no switching to stereo with RC also noisy PLL line. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Tripping.
  • Insufficient width and wavy vertical elements in picture.
  • White line in the middle of screen. Sound OK.
  • Excessive line pulling and tearing or bent verticals with lack of width.
  • No or low energy output. Transformer squealing and TR801 hot. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Insufficient width and corrugated verticals.
  • Switches off when any button is pressed.
  • Switches off by itself. intermittently.
  • Insufficient height and wavy vertical elements (or sawtooth peaks) in picture.
  • Adjusting U1 (stabilised).
  • Picture too small.
  • No functions from RC. Black screen. Starts up correctly from standby using RC.
  • Adjusting the colour.
  • 3cm wide line in the middle, sound and picture present
  • Vertical fault. Patterns in picture. Noise in picture. (CT3693 tips)
  • Starts up with the RCU, dark screen with two lines at the top. No function with the RCU, does not go off. (picture attached)

  • No OSD.
  • Brightness control not working though the on-screen display says that it is.
  • Intermittent faults ranging from text problems to going dead. (CT3693 FIRSTLINE repair tip)
  • ACG adjustment.
  • Red fuse blown.
  • Raster is blank, red LED does not light up at switch on.
  • Excessive brightness. Flyback lines.
  • No channel change and no sound. Standby function does not respond.
  • No energy transfer to secondary side of PSU. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • No line drive. Audio OK .
  • Vertical line on LHS of screen about 3 inches in from the side.
  • Uncontrollable HT. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Switches to mono on some picture scenes or channel changes. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Adjusting the geometry and focus.
  • Dark picture.
  • Intermittently no picture and one colour.
  • Multicomponent failure. TR801 S/C and R801 O/C. (picture attached)
  • Adjusting the horizontal oscillator.
  • Blue background.
