1401 / GEC [TV]

The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers supplies the following faults for 1401 / GEC.

List of fault symptoms:
  • Vertical foldover at top and bottom.
  • Protection circuit trips too early.
  • Stops tripping if C811 PSU is disconnected.
  • EHT missing, line timebase ok.

  • Field sync fault.
  • Tuning drifts (intermittently).

  • Field roll with a snowy picture.

  • Ballooning effect.
  • Signal is intermittent.
  • Height is reduced and picture foldover.
  • Reduced field scan with foldover.
  • Field bounce or jittering.
  • Inadequate colour identification.
  • The appliance is dead (tripping).
  • Set does not start up. (1401 tips)
  • Picture tube is not lit.
  • Raster is blank only flyback lines present.
  • Frame collapse with no sound.
  • Red, blue or green luminance signal is missing.
  • Snowy picture and field roll.
  • Intermittent manual channel change. (1401 tips)
  • Appliance trips when changing channel.
  • Switched mode power supply trips when warm.
  • Poor picture quality, smearing, milkiness, glistening on peak whites or insufficient brightness.
  • Infra-red receiver does not function.
  • Blank raster.
  • No raster. Sound OK. (1401 tip from GEC)
  • Trips.
  • Low width and a dim picture, improving slowly over about an hour.
  • Tuner only memorises stations with even numbers.
  • Synchronisation is missing or intermittently missing. (1401 tip from GEC)
  • Reverting to channel 1.
  • Chopper transistor TR13 S/C.
  • Reduced horizontal size.
  • Horizontal shift fault.
  • Picture snowy looks like a tuner fault.
  • TXT lines.
  • Reduced vertical size. (1401 tip from GEC)
  • Frame synchronisation poor.
  • Focus problems.
  • The output of the power supply falls slowly until the point where the field cramp becomes apparent.
  • Blank raster. Audio OK .
  • Dead. PSU pulses.
  • Vertical jitter.
  • When volume increased row of dots indicate volume still at minimum.
  • Channel display number does not correspond to channel.
  • Intermittently RCU does not function.
  • Appliance trips when warm.
  • Field sync is missing.
  • Dead. (1401 GEC repair tip)
  • Intermittently changes channel by itself. Volume varies and goes to standby.
  • Blanking problems.
  • Outside of picture is wavy (depending on beam current).
  • Unstable picture, line hold control has no effect.
  • Stuck in standby.
  • Field collapse, no sound.
  • Line oscillator does not function.
  • Vertical collapse.
  • Various symptoms:- no tuning, no sound, full sound, dead set etc.
  • Dead or intermittently dead.
  • No colour.
  • "O" symbols with tails fill screen on TXT; bar for analogue settings flash.
  • Goes back to channel 1.
  • Raster is green with flyback lines.
  • Incorrect line speed.
  • The appliance has a dark picture.
  • Ghosting effect. (service info for GEC -1401)
  • No vertical deflection.
  • Intermttently powers down.
  • Displayed channel no. does not match the channel.
  • Striations and flyback lines.
  • Sound and vision (drop out, signal missing).
  • Frame oscillator does not function. (1401 GEC repair tip)
  • Frame collapse or intermittent frame collapse.
  • No contrast.
  • No picture.
  • Channel changes at random.
  • Picture has moved to one side. (1401 tips)
  • Intermittent frame bounce.
  • Field blanked from 1 to 3 inches at top of screen.
  • Blank raster but sound and on screen display ok.
  • Incorrect frame linearity.
  • Tripping (intermittently).
  • Intermittently dead. (1401 tips)
  • EHT brushes or arcs.
  • Intermittent loss of signals and randomly unhappy about channel three selection.
  • Channels cannot be tuned in or stored.
  • LEDs not lit or only partially lit.
  • Insufficient height or the height varies.
  • Raster is blank with flyback lines. (1401 tips)
  • Dark picture.
  • Width is reduced and picture is faint.
  • There was a snowy raster but no sound or channel indicator illumination.
