C2090H / GEC [TV]

List of fault symptoms:
  • Trips intermittently.
  • The picture looks as though it is made up of tiny black or white squares depending on picture content, with no shade difference between black and white.
  • Set trips after approx. ten seconds.

  • Top frame cramp or gross non linearity in the middle of part of the raster.

  • Field size varies or field collapse.
  • No picture, sound OK.
  • Low contrast, brightness and colour. Controls have no effect.
  • Picture goes dark.

  • No switching to standby.
  • No vision.
  • Bright high-contrast picture and loud sound, with the brightness, volume, contrast and colour controls inoperative. (GEC - C2090H information)
  • Poor sync; no tuning lock.
  • Top of picture folded over.
  • No picture.
  • No picture. No audio. via AV.
  • Dead. Standby light is on. (C2090H tips)
  • Left hand side of raster bright.
  • Blank raster and no channel change.
  • Barely visible raster with no signal content.
  • No picture. Audio OK.
  • Line output transistor goes S/C (every 2 days after 10 mins).
  • Appliance works at switch on for ten seconds to ten minutes, then the seven segment display goes out, the picture and sound disappear and the three LED's on the front light up.
  • Search tuning does not lock and sound is muted.
  • Teletext lines covering the top one third of screen. (service info for GEC -C2090H)
  • Frame foldover excessive height.
  • Intermittent loss of station. Picture returns if channel button pushed.
  • No cold start.
  • Stuck on stand-by. (C2090H tips)
  • Receiver still operates when put into standby mode.
  • No audio. No picture.

  • Sound, brightness, colour and contrast controls not functioning. Excessive sound.
  • Set comes on in video mode intermittent no channel select.
  • Set comes on in video mode. Intermittently selects off-air and tunes slowly, but no stations selected.
  • Weak picture with flyback lines.
  • Height reduces on warm up.
  • Set in permanent standby.
  • Small picture in stand-by.
  • Picture composed of large white dots.
  • Intermittently going to standby.
  • Bright on left hand side of screen.
  • Bright picture with flyback lines.
  • Poor synchronisation, no tuning lock.
  • No picture. in the centre.
  • Field jitter intermittently.
  • Small picture on stand-by.
  • Intermittently picture bounces.
  • Excessively bright with flyback lines.
  • Strange picture with no colour. The verticals are bent and smeared.
  • No picture just vertical lines.
  • Remote control handset will not stay in its compartment drawer (ejects).
  • No TXT.
  • Line output transistor S/C after 1 mins to 2 days.
  • Blank white raster with flyback lines.
  • Picture comes on orange on one side of the screen, then the whole of the screen. The orange goes and you just make out picture in the background, then lines come on the picture.
  • Intermittent field jitter, or tiny height variations.
  • Raster blanked out. No drive to rgb driver transistors from IC501.
  • Remote control affects VT7 and other makes of video.
  • Intermittently dead.
  • Blank picture. No channel change.
  • Red raster and white horizontal lines on TXT.
  • Appliance continues to operate in standby.
  • Line jitter.
  • Loss of picture after 10 mins.
  • Intermittent picture increases in size with the brightness varying then turning itself into standby.
  • Insufficient line and field synchronization.
  • Field synchronisation is weak and top of picture has line pulling.
  • Poor synchronisation and no tuning lock.
  • Weak contrast, no colour. Sound OK; controls have no effect.
  • Rippling picture and audio buzz.
  • Frame roll.
  • Frame foldover and rolling. May start with excessive height.
  • No functions.
  • Set dead. HT voltage higher than the correct 112V.
  • Blank raster.
  • No raster.
  • Intermittently sound crackles.
  • Picture made up of small squares.
  • Very weak field sync with severe line pulling at the top of picture, also effecting audio level.
  • In trip. (service info for GEC -C2090H)
  • Intermittent field jitter and small variation in height.
  • Appliance looks dead but channel LED lit.
  • Set dead with the standby indicator on and the main board fuse blackened. (C2090H tips)
  • Vertical collapse (intermittently).
  • Intermittent picture increases in size with varying brightness then goes by itself into standby.
  • Screech from power supply, set works but has line pairing
  • Continues to run when standby is selected.
  • Excessive brightness occurred very intermittently.
  • No channel change, blank raster.
  • Screen is blank on left hand side, teletext is ok.
  • Incorrect display and functions.
  • Set comes on in video mode int. No channel select.
  • Dull raster.
  • No picture. Channel indicator number '1' is lit.
  • Text drop out.
  • No sound or picture, channel identification lit. (C2090H tips)
  • Incorrect display and functions.
  • Trips into standby.
  • Does not switch to standby.
  • Bright picture with flyback lines for first 20 mins.
  • Picture over bright on the left hand side, getting darker towards the right hand side of screen.
  • No results and a check on the 111V line showed that it was at 20V via the start up diode D908.
  • When switching to standby appliance remains on.
  • Picture pulling on dark scenes with a light background like sky. (C2090H GEC repair tip)
  • No functions on front controls.
  • Frame rolling.
  • No picture. Raster with vertical black lines over whole screen (GEC - C2090H information)
  • Field bounce. Intermittently top inch of picture disappears.
  • Intermittent standby.
  • Video crushing.
  • Lack of brightness.
  • Left hand side of screen has flyback lines.
