C2097 / GEC [TV]
The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers
supplies the following faults for C2097 / GEC.
List of fault symptoms:
- Just noise on picture, no tuning or channel change LED
- Can be tuned perfectly but when memorising all locations (1-16) have memorised the same information.
- Raster is bright with flyback lines. (service info for GEC -C2097)
- Flickering LED display/no remote control.
- Comes on dark and gradually goes overbright.
- Intermittent loss of sync, blank raster, no sound, switches to standby and LED channel display goes off.
- Stores in memory all locations (1-6) have same information stored in them at same time.
- No picture or sound. Burning smell may be present.
- Intermittently mains fuse blows.
- No colour. (C2097 tips)
- Dark picture.
- Vertical shaking.
- Dead.
- Intermittently picture turns to snow.
- Vertical roll. (C2097 tip from GEC)
- When the set is switched on the set trips.
- On/off button keeps jumping out.
- Tripping. Poor or noisy start up.
- No RC functions.
- Appliance turns itself on, standby key not working.
- F802 blown.
- Bright raster with flybacks.
- Intermittent volume. (C2097 GEC repair tip)
- Field roll. Hold control at one end. (C2097 GEC repair tip)
- Channel lights up. H.T. present.
- Sound ok, but no EHT and only about 1V of drive at the base of the line output transistor Q111.
- No start-up.
- Weak and snowy picture when switched on. Does not tune in, only first station stays in memory.
- No signal.
- Line collapse and incorrect width.
- Red is missing on teletext.
- No picture. No audio.
- Recycling tripping.
- Weak contrast.
- No picture and uncontrollable motorboating and screeching from loudspeaker.

- After switching on, the first command using the RCU does not function.
- Picture goes red intermittently.
- Switches on automatically. Standby key does not function.
- No sound or picture, just motorboating from speaker.
- Goes dead after 5 mins.
- Vertical collapse.
- Stand by LED lights up. At switch on, relay click heard but nothing happens.
- Loss of channel selection and uncontrollable sound when the set has been on for a while.
- No picture and frame collapse. Sound OK.
- No picture or sound, drop outs.
- No picture and sound.
- Low gain intermittently.
- No picture. Motorboating.
- Humming noise and tripping on and off.
- Bent verticals and ragged picture.
- Picture and sound cut out intermittently.
- Field roll, or insufficient height.
- Channel lights up. High voltage is present.
- Defective infra-red transmitter.
- Tuner drift, no signals.
- Small frame.
- Dead. Ticking/buzzing.
- The volume is intermittent and increases momentarily. (C2097 tips)
- Teletext colour problems.
- Green cast at top quarter of picture, red cast at bottom quarter.
- Low A1 voltage.
- Appliance will not switch on from standby. (GEC - C2097 information)
- No tuning.
- Does not switch to standby (only sound disappears) and picture jitters
- Intermittently dead.
- High brilliance
- One colour missing.
- Dull picture or dull single colour.
- Picture turns to snow, audio comes up, channel LEDs switch off.
- Switches automatically on. Standby key doesn't function.
- Field bounce with teletext reception.
- Lots of crackling, after approx 30 minutes the picture might appear.
- No start-up from standby.
- Flyback lines.
- Snowy screen. No channel light. No signals. No sound.
- No picture and sound, dropout.
- Loud hum at switch on and ragged verticals.
- Unable to lock field sync using field hold preset.
- Slow start-up.
- Power supply is tripping.
- No s/v and tripping.
- Motorboating for five mins.
- Field collapse. No picture.
- Streaky pictures when captions displayed; dark bands across screen.
- Loud hum at switch on.
- At switch on there is lots of crackling; picture takes approx 30 mins to appear.
- Intermittent humming and tripping.
- Ragged verticals.
- White screen. Retrace lines.
- Bright raster, sound O/K.
- Poor frame linearity.
- Loud hum at switch on
- Trapezoid picture.
- Contrast problems.
- Snow in picture. No tuning.
- Set comes on with blank raster and no channel indicators alight.
- Bright screen and flyback lines.
- Tunes in ok but stores same info on all 16 progs.
- Intermittent colour. (C2097 GEC repair tip)
- Horizontal line.
- Loud noises from appliance which affect the sound and/or picture.
- Intermittent red in picture.
- Switches to standby.
- Incorrect brightness.
- Intermittent frame, picture and or sound.
- Teletext problems.
- Does not function intermittently.
- No start-up. Standby OK. (C2097 tips)
- Defective infra-red receiver.
- Incorrect height.
- Intermittent loss of tuning voltage on sweep tuning sets.
- Picture is unstable and disappears after one min.
- Dead except whistle.
- Bent verticals.
- No picture. Sound OK.
- No vertical deflection.
- Intermittent frame bounce often when first switched on. On-going problem - new frame and synch ICs have been fitted.
- No picture.
- Cannot switch TV off using RCU.
- Tripping.
- No picture, loud hum.
- Grey colour bars.
- No luminance.
With help of this list a solution is found often when GEC C2097 fails.
