C228 / GEC [TV]
The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers
supplies the following faults for C228 / GEC.
List of fault symptoms:
- No picture. (picture attached)
- Dead. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Excessive vertical size.
- Switches on automatically from stand-by
- No picture. No sound. Only noise, station tuning is not possible or some of the baud switching voltages are released at the same time.
- The vertical deflection IC TDA 1872 A fails after a few days. (picture attached)
- Switching power supply unit TDA4600 does not switch correctly. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Picture is folded down at the top.
- Synchronisation disturbances.
- Sporadically there is no picture content. After switching off then on again in most cases picture content returns. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Small, flat picture.
- Dead no standby LED at switch on.
- Picture occasionally or always becomes wavy. (picture attached)
- No colour PB.
- No picture, no sound intermittently.
- No reception, only noise.
- No AV possible.

- Vertical amplitude changes in AV operation, by program search or also by poor aerial signal.
- Beam limiter does not function.
- Sound modification.

- Poor picture covered with green stripes.

- After storage has been extended the screen display is faulty.
- Intermittently dark picture.

- OIRT standard reception.

- No functions. Display OK .

- Varying grey scale.
- Segment generator SA5243.
- Pin occupation: Scart plugs/sockets.
- No function, starts up briefly. No display.
- No vertical synchronisation. (C228 tips)

- Teletext runs through.
- Picture rolling [ no vertical sync ].
- Intermittently no line sync and high oscillation. Line transistor fails if it remains too long in this state.

- High HT.
- No beam limiter.

- No picture, only flyback lines. Sound is present.

- TDA1872 defective.

- Squealing noise. (picture attached)

- Interference lines.
- Picture has shifted to the left.
- Reduced vertical size.
- No functions.

- Makes a "BLUPP" noise after switch on then no function.
- Dead. Standby LED doesn't light.
- The picture is sometimes dark.
- No TXT.
- Line pulling at top of picture.

- Shortly after switch on the picture goes darker, the colour and contrast become weak. After a short or long time the picture is correct again.
- Picture has shifted at top of the picture.
- Does not start or only starts after several attempts.
- Picture runs through or jumps vertically.
- TXT mod. with VT-decoder II. (GEC - C228 information)
- Brightness and contrast switch off.

- The power supply unit is in open circuit.
- Switches OFF by self after couple of mins of good function. Will function again for same period, if it is switched ON again after becoming cold. (picture attached)
- Fitting of a different tuner: The manufacturer has fitted different tuner types to chassis C8500: - NSF-tuner - Loewe-tuner (with adapter board)
- When supply voltage U110V is adjusted correctly the picture width is too big (profi M15).
- The IR receiver is blocked.
- Excessive HT. (picture attached)

- Hum bars in upper picture part.
- The sound is correct up to level 25. If you increase the volume, there is no sound. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- No colour. at top.

- Intermittent light/dark.

- Picture jitters/hum on picture/channel numbers flicker/low sound/intermittent RC and front button functions.
- Harder and harder to start TV then won't start up at all. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- No function. Standby display is not lit.
- Vertical line at the left hand picture edge.
- Screeching sound.
- The picture is dark and the sound hums.
- SECAM-transcoder modification.
- No BTX-operation possible (Lotus).
- Malfunction because the electrolytics have lost their capacity.

- Dead, display shows 88.
- H-driver transformer and bias resistor R534 defective and fail again after replacement.
- Replace TDA872A with TDA1675.
- The picture is noisy. (picture attached)
- Linearity fault in upper third of picture. Several white stripes.
- Fitting a Lotus-BTX decoder.
- The storage is lost (multitel 21).
- No picture content on the screen, also analogue functions do not work (but display counts). Appliance cannot be switched to stand-by.
- The power supply unit does not start up (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- No picture. Picture remains dark even when AV signal is available.
- Dead, no U8 or U5 supplies

- Intermittent picture (beam lim).
- Changing the chassis on Profi M15.

- Lines in picture.
- Variable 5V supply.
- The picture is distorted.
- Poor contrast and white pictures show colour moire during CCVS operation of a Commodre C64 on TV's and monitors.

- Modification set SECAM-L converter.
- Storage extension (only for multitel and TV10).
- Very bright picture with flyback lines and E/W fault.
- No picture content. Flyback lines. RGB output signals are missing on the TDA. TDA is ok.
- Colour disappears then reappears after a short time.

- No user control when switching on. Picture jitters and everything ok again after a few mins. Then crackle in the sound and it becomes considerably quieter.
- Brightness levels go up and down.
- The picture only appears 4 minutes after switching on.
- Blurred picture. Picture becomes sharp after a while and vertical picture parts jitter.

- Fizzle in PSU.
- Narrow picture and tube looks flat. Slight whistle. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- During VCR PB the picture amplitude jumps, especially during special function (picture search, freeze frame etc.) (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Switch over problems.
- Distorted picture. Volume varies. (picture attached)
- The lines appear torn.
- Monitor operation (MCP114/ME) with Commodore VC64 shows onion pattern. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Change of audio IC TDA4190.
- TV-standards.
- Dark picture at switch on. It becomes bright very slowly (thermic dependence), sound OK.
- Reduced width and bright raster
- IR receiver reacts to external light.
- Incorrect height on picture and non linear.
- Function faults (picture sways, power supply block is open circuit, picture trembles).
- Picture is blurred and almost negative (dark).
- High brightness.
- The RGB output shows problems.
- No HV.
- Moire effect on the picture.
