VR1993 / GENEXXA [Video recorder - VHS HiFi]

The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers supplies the following faults for VR1993 / GENEXXA.

List of fault symptoms:
  • Does not accept cassette; switches on when inserted, clock OK.
  • Tapes are creased or snap.
  • Does not load tape.
  • Tape spillage.
  • PB gate timing adjustment. (picture attached)
  • Poor colour. in REC.
  • Eats tape.
  • Poor colour. in PB. (VR1993 tips)
  • No REC in SP mode.
  • Tapes torn.
  • No 12V at tuner.
  • No 13.5VA and 12VA in PSU.
  • 6V missing in power supply.
  • Loading arms jammed half way.
  • No SECAM audio and video signal.
  • No colours in SECAM REC.
  • Capstan can not start with HI8 recorder. VHS OK.
  • Loop of tape left when ejecting.
  • Tapes damaged during PB.
  • PB too fast. (GENEXXA - VR1993 information)
  • Microprocessor UPD75238 does not function.
  • Cassette compartment of VHS section is not completely lowered.
  • No FF or REW. When unit enters FF/REW state, mechanism makes extra click, but brakes don't disengage.
  • +/- PG adjustment.
  • Tape slackens and creases at pinch roller level in REV.
  • PB input bell adjustment. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • No REW (intermittently).
  • Audio PB adjustment.
  • Loading motor does not start-up.
  • No eject.
  • No front panel function.
  • Lines on top or on bottom in PB.
  • No SECAM audio signal.
  • No 12VA in power supply.
  • Damages tapes after REW. (VR1993 GENEXXA repair tip)
  • No blue. at bottom.
  • Intermittently tapes jam.
  • Soft brake problems. (VR1993 tips)
  • No 6VA and 6V in PSU.
  • Does not accept tape.
  • Tape speed increases when PB selected.
  • PB too fast.
  • Poor audio.
  • No TV/AV switching. (VR1993 GENEXXA repair tip)
  • No audio signal of tuner.
  • No display light.
  • No picture (in PB).
  • No 13.5VA in power supply. (VR1993 tips)
  • Tape is ejected. intermittently.
  • Runs slow, reels slow down, too much rack tension.
  • No output video signal. (VR1993 tip from GENEXXA)
  • Unstable OSD characters.
  • No TV/AV switching.
  • Pinch roller is not pressed to capstan shaft in PB mode.
  • Distorted audio signal.
  • Fails to load the tape to the audio/control head and the capstan shaft.
  • PB output bell adjustment.
  • No colour in SECAM.
  • No colour in PB.
  • Damages tapes when ejecting. (GENEXXA - VR1993 information)
  • Cassette cannot be inserted. ALARM displayed if cassette pushed in manually. (VR1993 tip from GENEXXA)
  • Stops after several secs.
  • No FF.
  • No colour (in REC).
  • No start-up.
  • Mechanism jammed. intermittently.
  • No SECAM identification.
  • Mechanism jammed.
  • No video and audio signal during longplay.
  • No tuning.
  • Damages bottom of tapes. (GENEXXA - VR1993 information)
  • Does not lace up fully.
  • Stops.
  • No functions and will not accept tape, lights up ok.
  • Tape jammed inside. No front panel display.
  • Cassette has wound around capstan. After removing tape, VCR starts again but in PB mode goes into accelerated speed and capstan roller moves away from capstan.
  • No video signal.
  • No audio record.
  • No audio signal in PB, longplay and REC.

With help of this list a solution is found often when GENEXXA VR1993 fails.
