348210 / HANSEATIC [Video recorder - VHS HiFi]

List of fault symptoms:
  • Does not accept any cassettes. The tape loading motor tries to raise the cassette compartment.
  • Does not load the cassette and no error indication.
  • Appliance does not accept HF recording.
  • Distorted picture. in PB.
  • When cassette has lowered, tape winds round the capstan shaft. Displays F1.
  • No audio switching in normal- and HiFi sound with special functions, freeze frame, FF, REW etc.
  • No IF-signal during playback and EE function, colour is present.
  • The cassette flap does not open.
  • Cassette sinks in, but laces up only partly and the display shows F1.
  • No picture. in PB. Audio OK .
  • The brake lifting solenoid rattles. (348210 tip from HANSEATIC)
  • Occasionally the appliance switches to playback. The video head does not start. The display shows F4 after a short time. No further functions are taken.
  • No picture. in E-E (intermittently).
  • The appliance malfunctions: eject does not function, play functions only as long as the play button remains pressed operates only in FF and REW. The display shows F4 continuously.
  • During HF recording and HF playback occasionally the sound is missing.
  • The tape laces up completely and unlaces immediately.
  • Lines in picture. in PB.
  • The brake lifting solenoid remains pulled in when switched on. (HANSEATIC - 348210 information)
  • After running for a long time in EE mode the bands go off tune. Mainly on the higher UHF bands.
  • Does not accept the cassette, not even in service function A5.
  • The left Hi-Fi recording level meter does not function. Hi-Fi sound is there.
  • Goes to stop-mode when in PB, ejects when in REW, FFWD OK.
  • After running for a long time, the appliance switches from record to playback (lines in the picture, or switches by itself to LP or Hi-Fi.
  • The sound on longitudinal tracks is not erased. The picture and sound on record is ok.
  • Occasionally the sound is intermittent during recording and playback
  • PB level adjustment.
  • The right channel does not function during HiFi stereo playback through the scart socket, with HF both channels function ok.
  • Occasionally interference lines or disturbances across the whole picture and also no sound. (348210 tips)
  • Sound is distorted in HF operation via modulator. Via AV sound is correct (phono connector output and scart socket).
  • Y REC current adjustment.
  • Cassette is lowered. Occasionally appliancedoes not make any initialisation operation. In service function A5 cassette laces in; capstan motor and video head run.
  • No picture (in viewfinder).
  • During playback the appliance switches back and forth between HF-modulator and AV-picture.
  • After 1-1,5hrs playback grinding can be heard in the sound. Occasionally this occurs during recording and the picture does not synchronise.
  • The test picture is dark and runs through.
  • Lines show in the display which do not go.
  • During own recording and occasionally during playback lines appear in the picture after some time. The picture jitters vertically and the sound goes out off tune.
  • No picture. in E-E. Audio OK . (348210 tip from HANSEATIC)
  • Does not erase audio. intermittently.
  • Appliance does not accept the cassette. In service function A5 the brake solenoid switches when function button play or stop is pressed. No further functions.
  • Capstan motor runs through. Cassette compartment does not function.
  • No playback of linear audio. (348210 HANSEATIC repair tip)
  • No EE or only crackling EE-sound. (348210 tip from HANSEATIC)
  • During colour playback the lines differ, ie. 1.line: colour, 2.line: black/white.
  • The appliance accepts the cassette, does not initialise.
  • The Burndy-plug is intermittent.
  • No recording possible via AV. PB via the TV is ok.
  • Channel adjustment.
  • Dead. Once the RAM C-MOS neutralises (service connector), F9 disappears. If appliance is disconnected from the network, F9 reappears.
  • Appliance does not lace up, lacing motor turns for a short time and then stops, capstan motor runs. (348210 tip from HANSEATIC)
  • The clock on the recorder has stopped.
  • Error codes. (picture attached)
  • Fuse 401 on mains transformer always burns out.
  • During EE operation the stations are distorted and cannot be adjusted correctly.
  • Interference lines in EE operation, mainly during VHF, sometimes also in UHF. PDC flashes occasionally.
  • Display shows CASS, though tape is inserted. Tape loops when unlacing. Error message F1 is displayed.
  • Disturbance bands run through during picture search.
  • After recording, the tape indication jumps to 0.00 and the set will not continue to wind.
  • Head drum slows down after approx. 20-30 sec. Appliance unlaces and F4 is displayed.
  • The top segments in the display light continuously.
  • During playback and playback of own recording the picture is torn at the upper edge. (service info for HANSEATIC -348210)
  • The pinch roller does not press against the capstan shaft.
  • Dead. Does not accept tape. (348210 tips)
  • Carrier suppression adjustment.
  • The appliance accepts the cassette and the reel motor runs jerkily.
  • After 1-1.5hrs playback there are interference lines in the picture (appears like search) and sound oscillation can be heard in the background.
  • Zero offset adjustment.
  • Interference zones return periodically in the picture and the sound is intermittent.
  • Playback picture is visible in record, no EE-picture, no test generator.
  • The station cannot be set. No picture with UHF/VHS, test picture is present.
  • No picture during playback, the normal (stereo) sound is not present.
  • Accepts cassette, no tape run indication in the display, short initialisation but no functions.
  • No colour. in E-E.
  • The appliance does not start or the display does not light up, no functions are taken. The lifting magnet switches.
  • Video head turns then stops and this action repeats. (348210 tips)
  • No audio. in E-E. Picture OK .
  • No colour in PB.
  • Snow in picture. via tuner.
  • Capstan speed fast.
  • Black value adjustment.
  • The appliance occasionally does not accept any function when the buttons are pushed, the display goes off.
  • The FM waveform fails irregularly.
  • During unlacing the tape lever does not release and the threading ring does not move back to its initial position.
  • After changing the video head there is a loud crackling in the sound during HiFi PB or recording.
  • 4.43MHz REC oscillator adjustment.
  • Wave-like line jitter (Slip Stick) of the vertical lines.
  • No function, display is dark, no power supply, secondary side.
  • No time or date indication on display. Tape time indication does not change during PB or FF and REW.
  • Appliance switches by itself to HiFi.
  • Drop out amplitude adjustment.
  • Appliance does not initialise when the cassette sinks in and the display shows F6. During service function A5 the appliance can be operated.
  • The standard sound is present, but the HiFi sound hums and the level indication is at maximum. (348210 tip from HANSEATIC)
  • Hi-Fi sound is recorded correctly, but during standard sound there are oscillations or the sound is dull.
  • Line jitter in REV. Occasionally whistling.
  • Low audio from left-hand channel with AN AV input.
  • The power supply fuse SI402 blows. No function. (348210 tip from HANSEATIC)
  • Sound variations.
  • No PDC indication in the display. (PDC does not function).
  • Disable electronic combination lock.
  • Does not allow cassette compartment to move down, makes no initialisation and laces in immediately. Capstan motor does not run. Appliance unlaces and shows F1 in the display.
  • Carrier frequency adjustment - After replacing IC1020 or IC1220.
  • Dead. No display.
  • No function, the display does not light
  • Loading ring is unable to fully lace the tape and one or more tape guides on the ring are shifting out of their correct position.
  • Upper cylinder does not turn.
  • Poor picture in picture search (CUE/REVIEW). (service info for HANSEATIC -348210)
  • The brass lever next to the pinch roller twitches during play. The take-up reel table runs jerkily.
  • During playback of a new recording the old recording can be seen in the background. Sometimes the picture is not correctly erased. The sound can be heard in the background.
  • After switching on, the capstan motor and the reel motors run.
  • No sound switching possible during PB of standard or Hi-Fi sound, or during special function ie. PAUSE, FF, REW etc. (348210 tip from HANSEATIC)
  • No picture during normal play. No picture contents when LP button has been pressed, only black and white vertical lines.
  • In EE operation the station picture is distorted or there are black lines in the picture. The same fault appears during replay.
  • After running for a long time the appliance switches from record to playback.
  • On the tape flange the tape is cut at its lower edge (exploded drawing nr. 147)
  • The video head comes and stops, repeatedly.
  • In PB goes to FF and REW by itself.
  • After playing for a long time, the appliance unlaces.
  • No scart PB on pin 19 of the scart socket.
  • The sound is not erased. After a new recording the old sound appears.
  • The appliance occasionally shows no tape time indication when the cassette lowers, the display shows F6 and then F2 during playback after a short time.
  • EE picture runs through.
  • No EE picture or the test generator picture is distorted.
  • Appliance switches by itself to record.
  • The picture folds over (appears like a tracking fault).
  • Does not accept tape. Display OK .
  • The cassette lowers but the transport ring does not move.
  • No picture during PB, the test picture jitters.
  • EE and video picture can hardly be seen (picture runs through).
  • Half of the picture is missing in PB.
  • Occasionally the reel motors both turn fast and also the capstan motor.
  • Level indicator adjustment. (348210 tips)
  • Black/white value preparation.
  • The background picture is sometimes not correctly erased during playback of own recording. The background sound is also present.
  • When switching over the picture appears correctly for a short times then distorts.
  • No REW.
  • During playback the FM-carriers are missing. The picture appears in black and white or shows vertical black and white lines. Occasionally the sound is present.
  • White value limiter adjustment.
  • Cassette is not lowered. Appliance makes no initialisation operation and no further function. In service function A4 appliance laces in but capstan motor does not run. Video head runs.
  • Only sound oscillations can be heard at the beginning of a recording (only during standard sound).
  • HiFi playback and HiFi two channel sound playback (stereo and HiFi) is ok. During recording the sound in the right hand channel is noisy. Appliance occ. does not playback the HiFi sound.
  • Appliance does not take any function, the display does not light, but all voltages are present.
  • After 4-6 weeks the mains fuse blows periodically.
  • All motors run but no clock indication.
  • Occasionally the appliance does not perform the initialisation sequence and shows F6.
  • Playback is ok. During recording the picture rolls and/or the head switching pulse runs across the picture or the head drum changes the speed.
  • Reel tacho pulses are too small.
  • After playing for a short time the picture becomes distorted and sometimes the colour disappears completely, or shows black lines or is totally black.
  • During Hi-Fi stereo the audio channel switch does not switch to the different channels. Stereo playback is performed during Hi-Fi playback.
  • No audio. in PB.
  • Line jitter during forward picture search. Occasionally whistling.
  • During longplay recording the appliance switches back and forth between LLP and NP.
  • Faulty indication in the display.
  • Sound erase frequency adjustment.
  • 0dB level indicator adjustment.
  • To unlock the electronic combination lock.
  • In playback the appliance switches by itself from normal play to long play and back again.
  • Sporadic drive locking. Possible fault identification on the display: F3/F7
  • Appliance takes the cassette in and goes to rewind jerkily. The display shows F8.
  • No video REC. (348210 tip from HANSEATIC)
  • Stored channels can be switched over but the picture remains the same although the display changes.
  • No picture (in PB).
  • Distorted picture. in E-E.
  • No colour.
  • Occasionally interference lines or disturbances in the whole picture and there is no sound.
  • During colour playback the lines differ.
  • HiFi sound disturbances (strong crackling noise). Sound can hardly be heard, standard sound is ok.
  • Occasionally the picture or the colour disappears, or is black-white with vertical lines. (348210 HANSEATIC repair tip)
  • Ripple line jitter of the vertical and horizontal lines in playback.
  • EE picture is distorted. PB picture folds the lines over.
  • Standard mono sound is missing. Hifi sound is ok.
  • No standard sound during playback, HiFi sound is ok.
  • No sound during playback, no standard or HiFi-sound. The HiFi sound level indication in the display is missing... (service info for HANSEATIC -348210)
  • No picture during longplay, recording or playback.
  • The display blinks and/or only a few segments light, diode D202 on the operation unit smokes.
  • Stripes in the picture or switches by itself to LP or HiFi during record.
  • The sound oscillates during EE operation and occasionally completely disappear. (HANSEATIC - 348210 information)
  • Occasionally the cassette does not lower, interference lines run through the picture, the synchro pulse is missing.
  • Loading ring does not lace up the tape completely. One or more ring guides have come out of their seat.
  • Intermittent operation of the F.M. audio record level display.
  • With some cassettes the appliance does not initialise.
  • Level display does not function. HiFi functions.
  • Distortion factor adjustment - After replacing IC1190.
  • In service function A5 (playback without a cassette) the capstan does not turn and the video head moves with a tug.
  • Longplay functions poorly.
  • The appliance does not initialise correctly.
  • No AV transfer to another video recorder possible and/or no recording through the scart socket possible.
  • 627kHz oscillator adjustment.
  • The appliances with a fitted or additional fitted IR-remote control can show malfunction when operated with TVs with a switching PSU or with a strong ultra sonic reflection.
  • Playback picture folds over in the upper part. Head servo is too slow during search.
  • The right reel table does not run. The appliance forms tape loops and shows F6.
  • Picture jumps from left to right.
  • Normal play, recording/playback are ok. During longplay recording and playback the picture is missing.
  • No AV-transmission to another video recorder possible.
  • No standard sound during playback, no HiFi sound or no sound during EE.
  • No functions. Dark display.
  • Occasionally the sound is quiet and/or goes completely.
  • Appliance does not accept the cassette (only in service function A5).
  • Tracking in normal PB is ok but after REV tracking is no longer correct. FM carrier shows pinch effect. In CUE picture ok.
  • Standard sound is present but the HiFi sound is missing. HiFi level indication is also missing. (348210 tip from HANSEATIC)
  • The picture is badly distorted or disturbed, black bars are visible.
  • Picture comes too late when switched to playback (4-5sec). (HANSEATIC - 348210 information)
  • After inserting an E240/4 hour cassette the display sometimes indicates C3.
  • Appliance takes the cassette in, laces up, but the head drum does not come up to the correct torque. Drum control is irregular, after approx. 1-2 min. the tape unlaces and the display shows F4.
  • The Cassette and function A5 are not taken.
  • Appliance randomly recognises tape start or tape end.
  • The date indication cannot be adjusted Occasionally the appliance does not playback or does not eject.
  • Appliance does not recognize Hifi in playback. (348210 tips)
  • Stereo sound during recording, but occasionally the left channel is intermittent during HiFi sound.
  • PDC is not shown in the display, the appliance occasionally does not respond to the PDC station signals.
  • No RC functions. intermittently.
  • The appliance laces up, the video head runs and the appliance unlaces.
  • In PB of a new REC only noise in picture. Sometimes old REC visible in lower part of picture.
  • Appliance records HI-FI sound, but plays back in standard sound.
  • Degree of limiting adjustment.
  • Capstan motor runs constantly.
  • Amplitude of main erase frequency adjustment.
  • Cassette is loaded crookedly.
  • No picture during EE operation or recording. During playback interference lines run through without a picture.

  • No sound during playback, sound is muted. During EE operation it is not possible to receive a station. Test signal is missing.
  • Playback of own recording and prerecording has Hi-Fi sound disturbance. Standard sound is ok.
  • Erratically detects tape end.
  • Tape randomly recognises tape start or tape end.
  • During recording the recorder ejects the cassette.
  • During playback of own recording the picture runs through (bar runs through from the top to the bottom).
  • No picture.
  • Picture sharpness adjustment.
  • In CUE, REV and PB, ripple line jitter (slip-stick of vertical and horizontal lines). Intermittent whistling in picture search. (348210 HANSEATIC repair tip)
  • Hifi sound disturbance during own recording (slight crackling can be heard). FM carrier out between head 1 and 2 can be seen.
  • No test generator and no EE picture.
  • When trying to eject the cassette, it jams on the upper part of the operating panel.
  • The appliance occasionally squeaks when lacing up and unlacing.
  • Goes to PB, no picture REC only noise. (HANSEATIC - 348210 information)
  • Using a microphone to add a soundtrack there is non or only partial recording.
  • Clock and date have changed since the power cut.
  • Tape switching off is too sensitive.
  • No sound playback during normal play, ie standard sound. Hi-Fi sound is ok.

  • No audio recording. Low buzzing on the mono track and on the HiFi track only when in mono. With stereo transmissions record ok. Dual channel sound only on the left HiFi track (foreign sound), right channel (German) and mono track is missing.
  • After the appliance is switched on, the display shows A0 and vertical lines appear in the lower part of the date indication 6. No functions are taken.
  • Appliance accepts the cassette, but does not perform initialisation sequence, display shows F 7.
  • Mains fuse trips.
  • Lines in the picture, sometimes at the top or in the middle. Tape tension is incorrect.
  • After playing for a short time the indications of clock, cassette and tape operation disappear. Several "4's" are flashing in the display.
  • No PB. via SCART.
  • The colon between the hour and the minute in the clock display occasionally does not blink.
  • The sound slows down, especially during own recording.
  • During EE and video picture all the light areas are too bright (overcontrolled).
  • The cassette is not accepted, not even in service function A5.
  • Occasionally the appliance does not go to forward. (348210 tips)
  • No EE picture, the test generator picture is bw-white-bw.
  • Cassette compartment is partly pulled back and therefore does not work.
  • White value adjustment.
  • The transformer fuse FI501 blows continuously. (348210 tip from HANSEATIC)
  • SECAM identification adjustment.
