RS4380 / NAP [TV]

The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers supplies the following faults for RS4380 / NAP.

List of fault symptoms:
  • Screened lead for playback head. (RS4380 tips)
  • High +130V source. Cannot adjust. (service info for NAP -RS4380)
  • Hum in audio at power-off.
  • Washed out picture.
  • SLOW CHANNEL ACQUISTION IN CABLE MODE. (NAP - RS4380 information)
  • No colour on some channels.
  • No start-up.
  • Low or high B+ at Z430.
  • Hum or buzz from speaker while set is off
  • Dead. Relay clicks on.
  • Hissing from speaker when set is off.
  • Switches off by itself. in PB.
  • Picture has too much contrast/can't turn far enough
  • Dead or intermittently dead.
  • No picture. Microprocessor locks up.
  • Vertical flipping or rolling during PB.
  • Noise (mech) from singing flyback: remove ihvt and check
  • Radio frequences interference in UHF. (Dots, swirls, herringbone) on PIP version of P1 chassis. The problem will most likely be seen on UHF channels using an indoor antenna, but due to protection tolerances, may appear on any channels to varying degrees.
  • Relay chatter. (service info for NAP -RS4380)
  • White bar visible only on premium cable channels
  • Picture tearing from top.
  • On screen display operates correctly. No off air video or audio.
  • Intermittent colour.
  • No start-up. Relay clicks followed by shutdown.
  • Repeated failure of Q420.
  • Q450 fails repeatedly.
  • Audio hissing or popping when set off. (RS4380 tips)
  • Set will not turn off even when collector q-433 grnd
  • Locks on 1 channel. Doesn't turn on.
  • No line drive. No audio (intermittently).
  • Shuts down. Dead. No line drive.
  • Audio sounds heard from speakers when set is off.
  • Turns on with auxiliary video and/or tuner audio.
  • 130V regulator source high.
  • Washed out picture. Contrast inoperative.
  • Dead. Smoked.
  • No picture. Doesn't respond to commands after being turned on. Has HV.
  • WHEN GOING THROUGH THE FEATURES LOOP (MENU), THE UNIT BYPASSES STEREO AND "AUX-IN" FUNCTIONS. CHECK PIN 8 OF THE MICROPROCESSOR. IF LESS THAN +4.8 VDC SUSPECT LEAKY D261. STEREO AUX MENU
  • No picture, only snow.
  • Vertical foldover. (RS4380 NAP repair tip)
  • Vertical bars. (NAP - RS4380 information)
  • Shut down after 10 min. with pix control set high
  • Continuous shutdown when picture control set high.
  • No audio. intermittently.
  • No horizontal drive. May not have audio.
  • No vertical deflection.
  • Unit bypasses stereo and aux in functions (RS4380 tip from NAP)
  • Shutdown when picture control set high.
  • Regulation B+ inop
  • Shuts down when picture control set high.
  • Dark screen.
  • Excessive brightness. Shuts down (intermittently).
  • Video & audio inop, has raster, clicks on & off, bright screen (RS4380 NAP repair tip)
  • Set intermittently locks on channel 3. Cannot be changed.
  • No OSD.
  • No colour. only on certain channels. (RS4380 tip from NAP)
  • OSD intermittent. Symptom is thermally dependent.
  • Dead set. 5V normal. Low reset line.
  • Pulsating picture.
  • Excessive contrast. Doesn't turn picture control down to adequate level.
  • No colour (when cold).
  • Factory mode entered when channel guide selected by remote.
  • Shuts down. intermittently.
  • No colour, or colour comes on slowly.
  • Channels change slowly in cable mode.
  • Intmt. shut down at high beam current or channel chng (RS4380 tip from NAP)
  • Dead. Repeated failure of D430.
  • Picture tears at a point about 1/3 of the way down from the top.
  • Hum when off. Pop in audio when turned on. (NAP - RS4380 information)
  • Shuts down. (service info for NAP -RS4380)
  • NO PICTURE OR SNOWY PICTURE. MAY BE INTERMITTENT. NO PIX SNOWY INTERMITTENT
  • HIGH PITCHED SQUEAL. SUSPECT L421 AT THE DRAIN OF Q420. THE CORE OF THESE 5.3 uH COILS MAY NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT GLUE OR THE FERRITE BEADS MAY BE FRACTURED. SQUEAL BUZZ WHISTLE
  • New headplate.
  • No audio.
  • Bright picture.
  • Picture searches. AFT doesn't lock.
  • Vertical collapse.
  • Shuts down (intermittently).
  • No picture. No audio. OSD OK .
  • Too much contrast in picture. Can't turn far enough.
  • The cassette does not function
  • Colour slow to lock in after turn-on or channel change. (NAP - RS4380 information)
  • Sharp picture with sharp control at a minimum.
  • Dead. TP4 at 0VDC.
  • Intermittent, does not turn on. Power supply ON/OFF latch may not always unlatch. Power intermittently dead.
  • Intermittent dead set. TV appears to shutdown.
  • No colour.
  • Shutdown with glow in centre of picture. Mechanically sensitive.
  • Sometimes mechanism plug vibrates out of connector.
  • Intermittently dead.
  • Delayed channel acquisition.
  • Shuts down on scene changes
  • No raster.
  • Poor video performance from video input when no RF signal is present.
  • No power start-up after channel up/down while TV off.
  • Set intermittently shutsdown - unit acts up/ch change
  • Bright raster. Retrace lines.
  • Pix jumps (perhaps only on one station, such as 12)
  • AFT searches too long in cable mode.
  • Doesn't turn off even when the collector of Q433 is grounded.
  • Intermittent loss of or no colour on some channels.
  • Shuts down. when changing channels. Poor horizontal synchronisation. (RS4380 tips)
  • REPEAT FAILURE OF Q502. WAVEFORM AT THE BASE OF Q502 IS SLIGHTLY ROUNDED AT THE BOTTOM. DEAD SHORTED Q502
  • No start-up. intermittently. Shuts down. intermittently.
  • Snowy or no picture. May be intermittent.
  • No picture. No HV. Audio OK .
  • Modified flywheel.
  • No HV. Drive was .8V with distorted waveshape.
  • Intermittently comes up by itself. Pulses on and off at 1 sec intervals.
  • Shuts down when turned on, or when changing channels or scenes.
  • In the features loop menu, unit bypasses stereo and aux-in.
  • 130v supply will not regulate
  • Erratic on screen display. Thermally dependent.
  • Distorted audio when on. When off, soft hum or buzz from speakers.
  • No contrast. No colour. when cold.
  • No power off. Loss of audio.
  • Green picture.
  • 130V regulator source low.
  • +130 VOLT SOURCE (TP4) IS LOW AND NO RASTER. NO RASTER TP4 LOW
  • Audio cuts in & out. losing 9v at Ic260-5
  • Dead, or shut-down when channel changed. May be intermittent. Horizontal OSC off frequency.
  • Squealing noise. in PB.
  • Dead. Appears to be in shutdown. No horizontal drive.
  • Picture control has no effect.
  • Shuts down after 10 min when picture control set at high level. Restarts immediately when manually turning on/off, but keeps shutting down every 1-3 min.
  • Shuts down. at start-up.
  • Does not shut down. No tuning.
  • Power shuts off intermittently but can be turned on again right away.
  • Intermittent shutdown. Intermittent horizontal drive. (RS4380 NAP repair tip)
  • TP4 voltage drifting.
  • Afterglow.
  • Bouncing picture. when cold.
  • 130V regulator sourse varies.
  • No picture.
  • WHEN TURNED ON HAS AUX VIDEO AND TUNER AUDIO. (RS4380 tips)
  • High beam current causes shutdown. Intermittent. (RS4380 NAP repair tip)
  • Intermittent or no colour.
  • Shutdown at channel change. VCR trick modes flagwaving during PB.
  • Snow in picture. (RS4380 tips)
  • Vertical lines. at top.
