CT2191 / NIKKAI [TV 51 (47/48) cm picture]

List of fault symptoms:
  • Poor picture alignment.
  • Top part of the picture is too wide and bottom part is too narrow
  • Picture is bright and white with flyback lines. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Loud audio.
  • Low audio.

  • IL03 (TEA2026) blows up when the appliance goes into AV on TV 42cm.
  • No picture or sound. At switch on display indicates a channel but no control is possible.
  • The picture shifts towards the bottom of the screen.
  • Switches to standby. after a few minutes. (CT2191 tips)
  • Power supply fault. TP37 and TP32 have a short circuit and occasionally TP38.
  • Dark screen. on the left.
  • Adjustment of 5.5MHz min. or 4.43MHz min.
  • Display ok, 90V, 13V and 22V are ok. Output 10 of TEA2026 to the line driver and the wave peaks are not in the correct frequency. IC and quartz have been changed.
  • Distorted picture. Strong streaking.
  • No erasing possible.
  • PSU repair tip.
  • Image noise in upper channels (e.g. channel 60, 99) only. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • When warm picture lifts from the bottom and narrows at the top, black lines at the bottom of the screen.
  • Flyback lines. No brightness. No contrast.
  • Excessive green.
  • Screen blank, only RF-noise. No 0,5-30V tuning voltage at RT11. The three band switch transistors are conductive. Error may also occur only sometimes.
  • The appliance pulsates 3 times then goes to safety mode.
  • When cold, no sound and no line amplitude then finally starts up.

  • Wide dark stripes on left side of picture. (CT2191 tips)
  • RP11 blows.
  • Intermittent loss of synchronization.
  • Intermittent loss of sync. Blank raster. No audio. No LEDs.
  • Coloured tinge in picture.
  • S2000 is s/c. Replaced with the original repair set, it still fails. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • No horizontal or vertical deflection.
  • No colour, picture streaking. (CT2191 NIKKAI repair tip)
  • On start up, black interference lines appear then the screen is white. (CT2191 tip from NIKKAI)
  • White, bright picture, picture poorly distinguishable.
  • Volume uncontrollable.
  • The appliance goes to safety mode and mute.
  • TEA 2026C is defective.
  • PAL run time decoder adjustment - PAL decoder.
  • The picture is blurred (spot at the bottom of the screen).
  • The varicap voltage does not move.
  • Picture spraying on band I (heat dependent at DP51). (picture attached)
  • BU807 blows regularly. FBT and TEA2026 have been changed.
  • Vertical collapse (intermittently).
  • Power supply stops occasionally, approx after 1/2 hour (very irregular).
  • Switches to protection mode. intermittently.
  • Channels below 30 cannot be received (chassis ICC4).
  • Line output stage doesn't start up.
  • No picture. after a few minutes. Audio OK . (CT2191 tips)
  • No system adjustment.
  • TP01 (BUT12A) fails after longer operating time
  • Displays PR and does not start (NIKKAI - CT2191 information)
  • Black band on one part of the screen and interference.
  • Picture appears slowly. (CT2191 tips)
  • Shade appears behind the picture.
  • Standby LED flashes.
  • Picture flickers slightly from bottom to top. After removing display indication (control unit) picture is ok (less current). (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Dark picture.
  • Appliance does not function with the mains switch then starts up again with another button.
  • Vertical amplitude is too low.
  • Power supply BU S2000 (BU508AT, BU508AF) S/C. (CT2191 NIKKAI repair tip)
  • No adjustment. (service info for NIKKAI -CT2191)
  • No picture. Sound and display are OK. (CT2191 NIKKAI repair tip)
  • Switches to protection mode.
  • No picture, no sound - PSU is switched off.
  • No sensitivity in the tuning.
  • No vertical synchronisation.
  • Power supply fails at less than 100V.
  • Does not switch on. No standby.
  • No 90V, RP51 burns. BU807, BU508.
  • There are 1300V present instead of 900V peak to peak on the collector of the TL37 (BU508ATB). This breaks after some time.
  • The display is incorrect and PE appears.
  • Sound and picture cut out, display for 30 secs.
  • Only switches on occasionally, but without picture and sound. Occasionally very high switch on current consumption.
  • Vertical foldover at bottom.
  • RL41 O/C due to dry joints below connector BD01.
  • Mains switch no start up. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Only switches on after 70 secs. After start up everything is ok. (service info for NIKKAI -CT2191)
  • Start up ok. Picture and sound ok. After 15 minutes or more than one hour no picture but son ok. Horizontal white line.
  • Starts up after 3 mins.
  • Transistor BU508 fails repeatedly.
  • Horizontal collapse.
  • No vertical deflection. intermittently. No audio. intermittently.
  • Fuse blows as soon as degaussing is connected.
  • Negative picture. Distorted picture. OK via SCART .
  • Poor vertical synchronisation.
  • Picture predominantly red in SECAM. Ok in PAL via scart.
  • Poor reception. in VHF.
  • PSU is defective, after replacing the protection resistor RP11 and transistor TP32 (BU508) there is still a s/c ie. after switching on appliance there is another complete s/c of the BU 508A straight away. (NIKKAI - CT2191 information)
  • Searches for channels continuously.
  • When appliance is switched on mains BU fails immediately.
  • DP51 heats up.
  • The power supply is correct without a load (U1 is up). There is a complete stop in the load.
  • No picture, no sound and programme display does not light up. (CT2191 NIKKAI repair tip)
  • No colour (intermittently). Line tearing.
  • TP29 fails after start-up.
  • Normal in black and white. In chroma, red of picture is green, blue is red and green is blue.
  • No horizontal deflection.
  • No luminance.
  • Image compressed horizontally. Insufficient width approx 1cm on left and right of screen.
  • No start-up from standby with RC. (CT2191 tip from NIKKAI)
  • RP61 burns out.
  • Rainbow effect in the centre.
  • U1 is instead of 84-90V only approx. 60V. Current consumption is over 100W. (CT2191 tip from NIKKAI)
  • The fuse blows because RP02 heats up.
  • Picture is dark or partially ther.
  • Does not come on from standby, red standby light comes on. TV01 and TV02 in the protective circuit respond.
  • Stations appear and disappear. Horizontal lines in picture.
  • FBT ok at start up but dark screen except for 3 coloured lines in top third of screen. Sound and display of channels ok.
  • No channel search.
  • No reception. via tuner.
  • Vertical IC blows repeatedly after a few days.
  • Power supply defective.
  • Power supply kit has been changed, has been working for 2 days and TP32 s/c, RP11 o/c, TL54 s/c, DL66 s/c, etc. Everything has been replaced, then no U1, U2, U3, U7, power supply transformer OK.
  • TP29 fails after switch on.
  • Faint blue picture with no picture content and flyback lines. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Reduced horizontal size. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Cannot be switched on or switched to standby. Standby indicator does not light up.
  • Power supply breakdown due to a volt-rise of the power supply kit.
  • Reluctant to start then produces a picture with reduced width.
  • No picture. Check the signal on pin 10 of IT20.
  • High contrast.
  • No start function via RC. With mains switch appliance switches into standby. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Line stage does not start up. (NIKKAI - CT2191 information)
  • Screen blank. Dark picture.
  • No functions. (picture attached)
  • Programmes memory is lost once a month.
  • Focus pot is defective.
  • Picture flickers and stripes in the picture.
  • Vertical line. in the centre.
  • No start up. PSU blocked.
  • Fuse blows constantly.
  • No scanning. Display ok.
  • No display. Appliance starts.

  • Does not start up. Standby LED switches off.
  • PSU fails after start-up.
  • Display appears after 15 secs, then pulsates on and off (no breaker circuit). (picture attached)
  • The appliance crackles and the picture framing is incorrect.
  • Starts to pulsates. Sound, picture and display present.
  • Contrast average value is too high.
  • Switches to standby (intermittently).
  • Voltages from FBT gradually decrease then line BU S2000 blows after operating for 15 mins.
  • At start up no line scanning or raster, TV displays PR. After approx 30 mins TV starts up.
  • No brightness. Three RGB colour bands on left and right of the screen.
  • The power supply does not start up. No standby
  • Poor vertical and horizontal amplitude with slight waving at sides, when cold. Everything returns to normal within 5 mins.

  • No picture on channel 99.
  • No TXT.
  • No picture. Fusible resistor RP47 (0R22) in U2 13V-rail blows repeatedly.
  • RP23 and transistor (BU508A) have blown.
  • TL19 fails in line ouptut stage. (NIKKAI - CT2191 information)
  • No reception at band I, or image flickering only. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • The line framing is incorrect.
  • TL19 fails in line output stage.
  • Picture width fault.
  • Contrast and brightness cannot be adjusted properly. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • RP02 and power supply BU blow.
  • Slight hum of vertical bars.
  • No function display. CTV functions via the front panel and the RCU.
  • TL54 (BU807) becomes very hot after a few mins and blows. Normal picture.
  • No start up. can be switched on after some time in standby. Sound OK.
  • Phase comparator fault on TV. Ok on secondary.
  • Power supply fault.
  • Systematic failure of TL54. At switch on TEA2026 has been changed.
  • The power supply does not start up. All transistors have been changed.
  • The power supply is destroyed.
  • Vertical bar.
  • Tripping.
  • Horizontal deflection and line oscillator failed. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • TP32 (BU508) and TL37 (BU508) fail immediately after switch on. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Switches to standby after 6 or 7 minutes with or without aerial signal. (service info for NIKKAI -CT2191)
  • Coloured flyback lines and poor picture.
  • Picture is dark. When Ug2 is completely there, a bit of the picture is present.
  • Switches off intermittently or does not switch on at all.
  • Low hum of vertical lines. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • After changing the battery, how do you adjust the channels without remote control IR?
  • Picture too small. at start-up.
  • Very snowy picture in UHF. Apparently the fault is at the level of the tuner UHF 4200.
  • Reference oscillator beat adjustment: PAL decoder.
  • No picture. No sound. Programs can also be switched over.
  • Poor startup. (CT2191 tips)
  • Spots of colour on the screen.

  • TP32 heats up.
  • Unstable luminance when the appliance is warm.
  • Horizontal centre adjustment.
  • 90V problem. RP51 heats up and cuts out. DP51 and CP51 ok. Brand new line transformer.
  • The channels unkey after a while.
  • Snow in picture. in UHF.
  • No functions. Standby LED is not visible.
  • No videotext mode.
  • Both vertical and horizontal synchronization instability.
  • No switch on. Standby indicator lights up.
  • Too much contrast, cannot be adjusted to less. (extract of circuit diagram attached) (CT2191 tips)
  • Excessive vertical size.
  • In normal charge, TP32 and TP38 switch off. The appliance functions without a charge.
  • Horizontal deflection is missing. Protective circuit disconnects. Standby point flashes.
  • Switches to standby. after a while.
  • Standby light flashes, fuse blows. RP11 and TP32, BU508 fails. (NIKKAI - CT2191 information)
  • Poor line synchronisation. Picture is shifted up. (extract of circuit diagram attached) (CT2191 tips)
  • The 108V voltage varies (U-system).
  • Sound to zero level. When volume is increased, sound goes back to zero level. Random channel switch-over.
  • When switching on BU508A and RP11 fail after 2 secs.
  • No brightness on picture. Chroma present with vertical instability and no sound.
  • Picture hum and picture is slightly brighter at the top and bottom. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Cannot be switched on or switched to standby. Standby indicator does not light up.
  • Channels from 21 to 32 come through well but with lines and nothing comes through from 41 to 53.
  • Interference lines in the top part of the screen. (service info for NIKKAI -CT2191)
  • Vertical blue bar on centre of screen. No picture.
  • No colour.Flag-effect.
  • Standard CCETT adaptation.
  • Bright picture. at top and bottom.
  • Power supply fuse blows. When it has been replaced, TV functions again for several days.
  • When switching into standby mode from the remote control the appliance switches off the sound and colour. This effect also occurs with a Condor appliance.
  • Blank screen.
  • Adjusting the white setting.
  • Line oscillating or tearing.
  • Dark screen.
  • No display. TV functions well. Channel change over ok.
  • The power supply does not function with load.
  • The sound and picture hum.
  • Focus adjustment.
  • Secondary protective circuit TV01 and TV02 disconnects intermittently.
  • R82 (10R) on the tube base board fails.
  • Vertical lines are distorted horizontally. E/W equalizer can not be adjusted correctly.
  • Slow start-up.
  • Dark picture. after a few minutes.
  • After switch on, vertical centering is shifted intermittently upwards approx. 2 cm; it goes to normal position after approx. 10 minutes.
  • Appliance goes into PAL. Occasionally no display.
  • Horizontal stripe (intermittently). (CT2191 tips)
  • Poor contacts.
  • No RC functions.
  • TL54/TP32 are destroyed.
  • No colour. No shutdown with RC.
  • Noise on channel 09 (band I) - colour picture. (extract of circuit diagram attached) (CT2191 tip from NIKKAI)
  • Lacks horizontal amplitude. Regulation does not function.
  • E/W fault.
  • Ghosting effect.
  • The blue circuit is pale.
  • The linearity coil whistles.
  • The colour appears after a few minutes.
  • Dark screen, 5 or 6 coloured lines at the top of the screen. Picture returns if appliance is hit. (CT2191 tips)
  • Switched-mode power supply (SMPS) does not start up. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Tube lights up as if G2 is at max (as if blocked in video). The same if an oscilloscope is put into scart. Sound and scanning ok.
  • No function, standby point is not visible. (NIKKAI - CT2191 information)
  • Black band at bottom of screen over approx 8cm. Picture has shifted to the top.
  • No light and the appliance cuts out.
  • PSU does not start up with a mains voltage more than 200V, ok with a voltage less than or equal to 200V.
  • Picture is pulled at the top. Poor line sync. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Poor display.
  • No secondary voltage.
  • Sound is always at max even if appliance displays volume with 00.
  • Unstable lines and there is an interference line at the base of TP32.
  • DP51 s/c after operating for half an hour.
  • Vertical line.
  • No picture content, rainbow colours at upper edge. U4 (17,5V) is too high, voltage at thyristor anode too high (approx 30V). At pin 4 of IC03 (TEA2026C) voltage is too high, instead of (2,8V approx. 7V).
  • Black screen. Display is lit. Intermittent sound. Fault occurs both via aerial and SCART.
  • Fuse blows at random, even at switch off.
  • Line instability. (NIKKAI - CT2191 information)
  • The appliance crackles during low Gamme UHF.
  • Can not be switched on from standby via RC.
  • Vertical centre adjustment.
  • Vertical lines on edge in EE-mode and via AV.
  • No picture. Flyback lines. at top. Audio OK .
  • Replacement kit of thyristor ESM740/G1/G2. (CT2191 tips)
  • Tuning voltage drifts.
  • RP02 burns at switch on and destroys TP32 S2000A1.
  • The picture is delayed by a few minutes. (NIKKAI - CT2191 information)

  • Picture drop out and development of smoke. A "rainbow" is visible in the picture.
  • Secondary protective circuits TV01 and TV02 disconnect intermittently.

  • No reception on band I, or only picture flickering.

  • No start up or reset.
  • PSU inoperative.
  • Standby indicator flashes.
  • Approx one third of the top of the picture is crushed.
  • Crackling in sound and picture in UHF and VHF. No sound via scart.
  • Sound purrs when tuning, picture is correct. Sound is possibly correct but picture disappears.
  • Volume varies.
  • Picture shifted vertically.
  • TP32 and TP38 have a short circuit.
  • Setting the vertical amplitude.
  • PSU fails immediately after switch on.
  • Vertical lines at edge during EE operation and via AV. (picture attached)
  • No start-up. No display.
  • At switch on when cold picture is reduced in height and width of the screen. After heating up for some time scanning becomes normal. Fault is no longer visible. You must wait until TV has cooled down sufficiently.
  • No picture. Vertical coloured lines. Raster problem.
  • TP32 (BU508) becomes defective after appliance turned ON/OFF several times. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • The picture blows up and the bottom of the screen is bright.
  • 300V on the collector of TP32. Oscillates at its base but no voltage on the secondary.
  • Fails frequently when operating.
  • No search possible. TV switches off without the 10th, 20th and 30th channel.
  • When warm flickers between picture and TXT. Characters keep popping up on screen
  • No UHF channels.
  • After switching on the mains progamme indication in the display but no picture and no sound. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • No high channels can be requested.
  • The luminance signal disappears occasionally.
  • U Varicap = 20V and will not change.
  • No picture. No audio. No channel display.
  • Loss of sync/raster/sound. Display goes off.
  • The appliance blows up on a very light background.
  • BU807 (TL54) cuts out.
  • Crackling in sound and picture in UHF and VHF. No sound in scart.
  • No 300V at collector of TP32. If collector is disconnected 300V appear.
  • Purity spot and scanning are incorrect.
  • No start-up. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Adjusting the screen grid voltage (grey setting).
  • Snow, no voltage on Varicap.
  • On channels from 21 to 27 picture is ok, from 32 to 35 lines on picture and from 41 to 47 no picture.
  • Standby flickers.
  • Contrast and colour are excessive at preset condition. (CT2191 NIKKAI repair tip)
  • The appliance takes 2-3 minutes to start up.
  • Vertical deflection has collapsed to a bright line in the middle of the screen.
  • IR receiver does not function.
  • Picture appears slowly. Display OK .
  • No picture in UHF, voltage for band change and tuning is OK.
  • Channel storage is erased.
  • No horizontal deflection. intermittently.
  • General information.
  • Line stage does not start up.
  • No U system.
  • The PSU fails instantly. When this is replaced by the repair kit the same problem arises.
  • PSU does not always start after switch on via front control or RC.
  • No speacial channels. Appliance works only up to channel 69. Display for brightness shows L (= English mode) instead of B.
  • Does not start up when cold. Audio , display OK.
  • RP51 (0R22) blows intermittently.
  • No start-up. Display OK .
  • Adjusting Us= 108V.
  • Does not memorise channel tuning. Display shows channel when TV tunes onto a programme. 'Ch' appears on display when pressing 'S' and channel number reappears. (NIKKAI - CT2191 information)
  • Dead. (NIKKAI - CT2191 information)
  • Deprogrammes approx every 4 to 5 months.
  • Excessive brightness.
  • Insufficient picture width, poor lines visible on screen
  • No brightness (only outlines can be recognised). Colour is ok.
  • Switches to protection mode. after start-up. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • U1 = 60V instead of 90V.
  • Intermittent loss of sync, a blank raster, no sound, switching to standby and the LED channel display going off.
  • Line BU (BU508) becomes hot and blows. At base of BU there are double pulses.
  • Power supply, fuses, BUs, etc, blow each time appliance is switched off by ON/OFF switch.
  • Is it possible to fit a TEA 2026C in place of a TEA 2026T ?
  • Vertical picture position shifts intermittently upwards approx 2 cm after switch on. It is OK after approx 10 mins.
  • U7 = 15V and there is no 12V voltage. A black band appears on the screen.
  • Black picture with 10cm of RGB horizontal lines over the whole screen. (CT2191 tip from NIKKAI)
  • Does not start up. Only displays the channel number. Power supply kit has been replaced. (service info for NIKKAI -CT2191)
  • Muted audio.
  • No transmission in UHF (12V on pin 10 of the tuner connector).
  • Noisy sound or no sound at all.
  • Hesitant start up. Mains button must be pressed several times. If appliance runs, fails again most of the time after a few mins.
  • The appliance hums and the picture is unstable. (CT2191 NIKKAI repair tip)
  • No command signal on the IL03.
  • TP32 in the PSU is s/c.
  • No tuning.
  • No start up. PSU whistles even when secondary side disconnected.
  • At start up 90V makes 12V. After 2 mins picture and sound present but 90V reaches a maximum at 85V.
  • Goes into standby every quarter of an hour or half an hour.
  • After a few days the TV fails. RP11, TP32 and TP38 are defective. The 925TX1283 unit has been replaced: TP32, TP38, CV16, DP33, DP41, DL62, DL64, QL11, CP31, DP32, DP38.
