VN3100 / NIKON [Camcorder - 8mm]
The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers
supplies the following faults for VN3100 / NIKON.
List of fault symptoms:
- Does not start up either in Camera or Video modes.
- Does not load tape. No eject. Fault occurs intermittently. .
- Mechanism jammed. intermittently.
- No mechanical operation. The bulletin illustrates a procedure to be followed to determine if the T reel and S reel need replacement.
- Cassette ejects but new cassette cannot be inserted.
- Tape spills out when REW is selected.
- Intermittent transport.
- Does not load tape. intermittently. (service info for NIKON -VN3100)
- RK gear goes under supply reel in REW and breaks.
- No sound during PB or REC. No audio signal at output of cinch socket and light buzzing noise inside TV.
- When in REW, drum reverses. When loading the drum slows down, then the tape is unloaded.
- Zoom problem. No zoom motor operation.

- No mechanical operation. The bulletin illustrates a procedure to be followed to determine if the T reel and S reel need replacement.
- Unit loads half way. Drum fails to change direction, then unit unloads.
- Mechanical noise. Mechanical noise during rew, or noise captured during REC.

- Unstable picture. Oil on the tape or on the tape path may cause picture distortion, head clogging, tape eject or no drum rotation.
- No PB picture, E-E OK.

- Eats tape.
- Drum runs at high speed when power is applied.
- Irregular loading. The cass tape may stick to the drum resulting in the tape being ejected. (last emergency - drum pg error). (VN3100 tips)
- Speed problem. T guide arm and rail base guide replacement procedure.
- Does not accept tape. Closes OK without one. (VN3100 tip from NIKON)
- Switches off after a short time. Take-up reel jolts.
- E-E Pictures are intermittent or flicker after impact. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- No eject.
- Automatic focus and zoom fail intermittently.
- Failure of flexible membrane may result in various faults.
- No EE video. (NIKON - VN3100 information)

- Cassette stuck in appliance and "caution" warning is displayed.
- No loading of cassette. The optical block or the manual focus is closed. Display in the EVF.
- Intermittently does not accept tape.
- Broken focus ring, zoom OK.
- No display.
- ATF servo fails during PB.
- No picture and no sound in playback. (part of circuit diagram displayed)

- Ejection of cassettes is defective, blocked mechanically.
- Cuts out after a few seconds in any mode.
- Cassette compartment won't rise
- No eject intermittently. Capstan motor possibly doesn't rotate. Intermittently ejects. Capstan motor not rotating. (VN3100 tip from NIKON)
- No unloading or ejecting of tape.. Although the unloading operation during eject is normal the cassette compartment does not rise.
- Mechanical noise. Mechanical noise during rew, or noise captured during REC.
- Does not accept cassette. Mechanical crunching noise.
- No camera picture when warm.

- Door will not close.
- Bright points in pixel. 1-CCD defective pixel repair.
- Dead. (NIKON - VN3100 information)
- Mechanical noise in REW, PB and REC.
- Blocks intermittently during tape unloading.
- Tape loaded but no FF/REW/PB or REC.
- Loads tape then ejects immediately.
- Transport noise in FF, REW and PB. (VN3100 tip from NIKON)
- Doesn't load cassette. Creaking noise from the mechanism.
- No playback from unit
- No Eject. Caution LED flashing. E-E OK.
- Eject inop ( TG-1 lever comes off it's guide )
- Closes and starts to load, then jams.
- No E-E colour. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Viewfinder is only bright and half a picture.
- Switches continuously from SP to LP.
- Unit will not close door. When applying power, mechanism ejects OK, but will not set back to load/unload state.
- TG1 arm falls out. (VN3100 NIKON repair tip)
- Mechanism loads halfway without cassette, rewinds a few seconds and stops.
- Will not load tapes (intermittently no rewind). Mechanism only half loads then slowly attempts to finish.
- Intermittent REC and PB.
- Mechanical noise.
- Ticking noise from mechanism in all modes.
- Camera switches off again immediately since the supply table is not driven.
- Cassette compartment will not release.
- Caution light on when loading.
- Pixel repair for LANCLink Interface.
- No picture and no sound in PB.
- Destroys under side of tape.
- Tape stuck in mechanism, no functions. Loads OK.
- Smeared E-E picture. (picture attached)
- Does not accept tape.
- No start-up.
- Faint colours and noise in picture. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Does not load tape. No drum/head rotation.
- No colour in PB mode.
- No picture.
- Does not load tape.
- No eject. Powers down with caution indicator blinking.
- The take up reel table does not rotate with an inserted cassette.
- No tape loading, loads ok without a tape. No drum rotation.
- Tape jams.
