VN7000 / NIKON [Camcorder - Hi8]
The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers
supplies the following faults for VN7000 / NIKON.
List of fault symptoms:
- Broken focus ring, zoom OK.
- Service manual amendment. The battery down adjustment on page 261 of the service manual needs to be amended.
- Picture jitter. Unstable playback picture when using a Hi-8 ME tape.
- Service information. Caution when replacing microphone unit.
- Eject inop ( TG-1 lever comes off it's guide )
- Mechanical noise. Mechanical noise during rew, or noise captured during REC.
- Tape stuck in mechanism, no functions. Loads OK.
- Lines through top part of viewfinder display. Data display corrupted.
- Camera switches off again immediately since the supply table is not driven.
- Unit will not close door. When applying power, mechanism ejects OK, but will not set back to load/unload state.
- Intermittent viewfinder picture.
- The take up reel table does not rotate with an inserted cassette.
- Service information. Part numbers of FL mechanism chassis kits are given in bulletin CV09091.
- Does not load tape. No eject. Fault occurs intermittently. .
- No power up in either mode. (NIKON - VN7000 information)
- Intermittent loss of both left and right audio channels. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Switches continuously from SP to LP.
- Ejection of cassettes is defective, blocked mechanically.
- Dot noise or dropout on picture. Improvement of dropouts (revision)(second entry). (picture attached)
- Speed problem. T guide arm and rail base guide replacement procedure.
- Mechanical noise. Mechanical noise during rew, or noise captured during REC.
- Part number information. The sponge wrapped around the lens block is now available using the part number given below.
- Service information. When reading or writing to page D addresses D0 to ff, the lanc communication may stop at address D4.
- Service information. The LS chassis for Hi-8 camcorders has been partly changed in shape.
- No eject. Powers down with caution indicator blinking.
- Unstable playback picture when using Hi-8 tapes.
- Intermittent transport.
- Cassette compartment will not release.
- Loads tape then ejects immediately.
- Display function problem. In the camera mode some meaningless characters may be displayed on the evf. (extract of circuit diagram attached) (service info for NIKON -VN7000)
- Cassette compartment won't rise
- No eject intermittently. Capstan motor possibly doesn't rotate. Intermittently ejects. Capstan motor not rotating.
- ATF servo fails during PB.
- Horizontal shift of portions of the picture. Drop outs are visible in the FM packet.
- Failure of flexible membrane may result in various faults.
- Does not load tape. No drum/head rotation.
- Viewfinder picture shakes.
- Unit loads half way. Drum fails to change direction, then unit unloads.
- Extension board availability.
- Cassette stuck in appliance and "caution" warning is displayed. (service info for NIKON -VN7000)
- Visa for dos software V3.0. Note: lanclink and lanclink plus starter kits include visa for dos software V1.1.
- No picture and sound PB. OK REC.
- Does not load tape.
- Caution light on when loading. (VN7000 NIKON repair tip)
- Part number information. Correct the part numbers for the guide rail in the service manual.
- When reading from or writing to Page D addresses D0 - FF, LANC communication stops at address D4.
- Dot noise or dropout on picture. Improvement of dropouts (revision)(first entry).
- Blocks intermittently during tape unloading.
- Closes and starts to load, then jams.
- Incorrect REC operation. (VN7000 tips)
- Wavy type representation of vertical lines.
- Ticking noise from mechanism in all modes.
- Unstable picture. Oil on the tape or on the tape path may cause picture distortion, head clogging, tape eject or no drum rotation. (VN7000 NIKON repair tip)
- Corner shade may be recorded when using MPK-TRS in combination with the CCD-TR705E.
- Does not accept tape.
- When in REW, drum reverses. When loading the drum slows down, then the tape is unloaded.
- Does not accept tape. Closes OK without one. (VN7000 tip from NIKON)
- Destroys under side of tape.
- Irregular loading. The cass tape may stick to the drum resulting in the tape being ejected. (last emergency - drum pg error).
- RK gear goes under supply reel in REW and breaks.
- No unloading or ejecting of tape.. Although the unloading operation during eject is normal the cassette compartment does not rise.
- Automatic focus and zoom fail intermittently. (VN7000 tip from NIKON)
- Damaged lens. (VN7000 tips)
- Service information. Wiping cloth for video heads and drum.
- No mechanical operation. The bulletin illustrates a procedure to be followed to determine if the T reel and S reel need replacement.
- Cassette ejects but new cassette cannot be inserted.
- Noisy scratching when playing back a faulty recording. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Tape jams.
- Mechanical noise.
- Smeared E-E picture.
- No E-E colour.
- Drum runs at high speed when power is applied.
- Mechanism loads halfway without cassette, rewinds a few seconds and stops.
- Tape loaded but no FF/REW/PB or REC.
- In PB noise bar on 1/4 of screen from bottom. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Doesn't load cassette. Creaking noise from the mechanism.
- No zoom.
- Service information. Evr service software V6.1 for the psion organiser is now available.
- Extension lead availability. A 24 pin extension cable to connect VC-106 board with VS-87 board is available. For 18 & 20 pin use ordinary cables.
- Does not accept cassette. Mechanical crunching noise.
- Service information. It is now possible to add a cleaning roller to some versions of the FL mech.
- No Eject. Caution LED flashing. E-E OK.
- Eats tape.
- Service information. When using the mpk-trs in combination with the CCD-TR705E the corner shade may be recorded.
- Switches off after a short time. Take-up reel jolts. (VN7000 tip from NIKON)
- No tape loading, loads ok without a tape. No drum rotation.
- Does not load tape. intermittently.
- No eject.
- No sound REC and PB.
- Improvements of dropouts. (VN7000 tip from NIKON)
- Mechanism jammed. intermittently.
- CPCON-2 cable for visa for dos V3.0. (VN7000 NIKON repair tip)
- Part number information. The md assembly is now available. This includes parts 221 and 227 shown om page 168 of the service manual.
- TG1 arm falls out.
- Door will not close.
- Will not load tapes (intermittently no rewind). Mechanism only half loads then slowly attempts to finish.
- Tape is ejected. intermittently.
- Intermittently does not accept tape.
- Mechanical noise in REW, PB and REC.
- No picture. in viewfinder. Vertical line. in viewfinder.
- Tape spills out when REW is selected.
- Incorrect picture through viewfinder. When connecting video output to TV, fault disappears.
- Part number information. The FP-182 flexible board listed in the service manual does not include its connector. The numbers are listed below.
- Transport noise in FF, REW and PB.
- No eject. Other functions OK . (service info for NIKON -VN7000)
- No mechanical operation. The bulletin illustrates a procedure to be followed to determine if the T reel and S reel need replacement.
With help of this list a solution is found often when NIKON VN7000 fails.
