VN7500 / NIKON [Camcorder - Hi8]

The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers supplies the following faults for VN7500 / NIKON.

List of fault symptoms:
  • Bright points in pixel. 1-CCD defective pixel repair. (NIKON - VN7500 information)
  • No eject. Other functions OK .
  • Mechanical noise.
  • After a short time no camera picture. Picture shakes or fails.
  • Service information. The a/D converter (for zooming) has been changed.
  • Board compatibility. New board types are supplied as replacement parts.
  • Doesn't load cassette. Creaking noise from the mechanism.
  • Does not accept tape.
  • ATF servo fails during PB.
  • Will not load tapes (intermittently no rewind). Mechanism only half loads then slowly attempts to finish. (service info for NIKON -VN7500)
  • Broken focus ring, zoom OK.
  • Speed problem. T guide arm and rail base guide replacement procedure.
  • Picture quality problem. Black inversion phenomenon may occur when using a Hi8ME tape which has been recorded in lp mode.
  • With some ME tapes, the data code may not show, and the indication "--:--:.." may appear instead. (NIKON - VN7500 information)
  • Switches off after a short time. Take-up reel jolts. (VN7500 tip from NIKON)
  • The plastics which surround the CRT may be melted by the sunlight.
  • Mechanism jammed. intermittently.
  • Failure of flexible membrane may result in various faults.
  • Camera switches off again immediately since the supply table is not driven.
  • Unstable picture. Oil on the tape or on the tape path may cause picture distortion, head clogging, tape eject or no drum rotation.
  • Service information. The CCDTR805E is equipped with the guide rail base (1) assy P/N A7040251F.
  • Noisy audio. A rustling sound or sound interruptions may occur when using mp tapes. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • The take up reel table does not rotate with an inserted cassette.
  • Does not accept cassette. Mechanical crunching noise.
  • Tape jams. (NIKON - VN7500 information)
  • VCR skew problem in certain mode. Skew may occur at the noise bar during CUE/REV or pause.
  • Intermittently does not accept tape.
  • Mechanism loads halfway without cassette, rewinds a few seconds and stops.
  • Caution light on when loading.
  • Misindication of data code and time. When switching from REC to STOP while the time is indicated on the data code display, the 12-hour format on the EVF or the LCD may change to the 24-hour format (e.g. 15:00 PM instead of 3:00 PM). (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Does not load tape. No drum/head rotation.
  • Service information. Adjustment procedure for steady shot function.
  • Door will not close. (VN7500 NIKON repair tip)
  • Wavy representation of vertical lines.
  • Physical damage. The jack cover detaches from the in/out terminal.
  • Unsynchronised and unrecognizable video signal in Cam.-E mode and cass. PB.
  • No functions.
  • Snow in picture in Camera mode. Disappears after functioning for a while. (service info for NIKON -VN7500)
  • Does not accept tape. Closes OK without one.
  • No Eject. Caution LED flashing. E-E OK.
  • Cassette compartment will not release.
  • Intermittently dead. (picture attached) (service info for NIKON -VN7500)
  • No mechanical operation. The bulletin illustrates a procedure to be followed to determine if the T reel and S reel need replacement.
  • Does not load tape. No eject. Fault occurs intermittently. .
  • TG1 arm falls out.
  • Mechanical noise. Mechanical noise during rew, or noise captured during REC.
  • Irregular loading. The cass tape may stick to the drum resulting in the tape being ejected. (last emergency - drum pg error).
  • Ticking noise from mechanism in all modes. (NIKON - VN7500 information)
  • Pixel repair for LANCLink Interface. (VN7500 tips)
  • Transport noise in FF, REW and PB.
  • Destroys under side of tape.
  • Service manual amendment. Flange back adjustment.
  • Intermittent transport.
  • No eject. Powers down with caution indicator blinking. (VN7500 tips)
  • Faulty data communication. No SP/lp distinction in playback.
  • No eject.
  • When in REW, drum reverses. When loading the drum slows down, then the tape is unloaded.
  • No eject intermittently. Capstan motor possibly doesn't rotate. Intermittently ejects. Capstan motor not rotating.
  • No unloading or ejecting of tape.. Although the unloading operation during eject is normal the cassette compartment does not rise.
  • Eject inop ( TG-1 lever comes off it's guide ) (VN7500 tips)
  • Switches continuously from SP to LP.
  • Drum runs at high speed when power is applied.
  • Unit will not close door. When applying power, mechanism ejects OK, but will not set back to load/unload state.
  • No mechanical operation. The bulletin illustrates a procedure to be followed to determine if the T reel and S reel need replacement.
  • Damaged cabinet. Loosened grip belt.
  • Eats tape.
  • Motor noise. Drum motor noise may be recorded by the microphone. (service info for NIKON -VN7500)
  • Cassette compartment won't rise
  • Cassette ejects but new cassette cannot be inserted.
  • In playback picture is broken from top to bottom. Vertical trembling of a part of the picture.
  • RK gear goes under supply reel in REW and breaks.
  • Extension cable J-13 info.
  • Does not load tape. intermittently.
  • Damaged CRT or viewfinder. The EVF cabinet surrounding the CRT is damaged. The damage is patches of plastic having been affected by surface heat.
  • During playback alternating dark/bright vertical bars appear on picture. The symptom is most obvious on dark passages. (VN7500 NIKON repair tip)
  • No tape loading, loads ok without a tape. No drum rotation.
  • Loads tape then ejects immediately. (VN7500 tips)
  • Mechanical noise. Mechanical noise during rew, or noise captured during REC.
  • Does not load tape.
  • Automatic focus and zoom fail intermittently.
  • Data screen shifts horizontally during PB.
  • Tape stuck in mechanism, no functions. Loads OK. (service info for NIKON -VN7500)
  • Unit loads half way. Drum fails to change direction, then unit unloads.
  • Tape spills out when REW is selected.
  • Mechanical noise in REW, PB and REC.
  • Display function problem. Data code indication may shift one character to right. The 12 hour format of the clock may change to 24 hour format. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Service information. Wiping cloth for video heads and drum.
  • Picture displaced horizontally in zones. Looks like a drop out fault. Drop outs visible in envelope curve.
  • Cassette stuck in appliance and "caution" warning is displayed.
  • Ejection of cassettes is defective, blocked mechanically. (NIKON - VN7500 information)
  • Closes and starts to load, then jams.
  • Blocks intermittently during tape unloading.
  • Misindication of data code and time. During playback the data code indication may shift one character to the right. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
