VN9100 / NIKON [Camcorder - 8mm]

The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers supplies the following faults for VN9100 / NIKON.

List of fault symptoms:
  • Ticking noise from mechanism in all modes.
  • Will not load tapes (intermittently no rewind). Mechanism only half loads then slowly attempts to finish.
  • Poor picture. in PB and REC.
  • Physical damage. The focus ring detaches.
  • The take up reel table does not rotate with an inserted cassette. (VN9100 tip from NIKON)
  • Colour fault. in PB.
  • No picture in E to E mode. There is no video output in the camera mode whereas in the player mode the video output proves faultless.
  • Irregular loading. The cass tape may stick to the drum resulting in the tape being ejected. (last emergency - drum pg error).
  • Does not accept tape.
  • No colour. in E-E.
  • No picture. in E-E. Blank screen.
  • Mechanical noise.
  • No mechanical operation. The bulletin illustrates a procedure to be followed to determine if the T reel and S reel need replacement.
  • Loads tape then ejects immediately.
  • RK gear goes under supply reel in REW and breaks.
  • No playback, head rotating in wrong direction.
  • Door will not close.
  • Unstable picture. Oil on the tape or on the tape path may cause picture distortion, head clogging, tape eject or no drum rotation.
  • Speed problem. T guide arm and rail base guide replacement procedure.
  • No Y output. (VN9100 tip from NIKON)
  • No rewind, arm assembly gets caught under the supply reel. Caution light on.
  • Does not load tape.
  • Playback picture rolls. Black lines at the bottom of the screen.
  • No raster, black picture when switching. A curved line may be momentarily visible in the viewfinder when the power is turned off.
  • White E-E picture, even with Iris closed.
  • Speed problem. T guide arm and rail base guide replacement procedure.
  • Tape stuck in mechanism, no functions. Loads OK. (VN9100 tips)
  • No eject possible. The loading motor does not turn.
  • Does not accept cassette. Mechanical crunching noise.
  • Noisy, smeared E-E.
  • Noise in audio. in PB.
  • Saturated white in PB. (NIKON - VN9100 information)
  • Part number information. Part numbers for the zoom lens assembly.
  • Ejection of cassettes is defective, blocked mechanically.
  • Mechanism loads halfway without cassette, rewinds a few seconds and stops.
  • Jig availability. Cpa jig for evr adjustments.
  • No brightness. in PB.
  • Cassette stuck in appliance and "caution" warning is displayed.
  • Picture disturbance when capstan motor runs.
  • Eject inop ( TG-1 lever comes off it's guide )
  • No camera picture or functions. No zoom or auto focus.
  • No mechanical operation. The bulletin illustrates a procedure to be followed to determine if the T reel and S reel need replacement.
  • No unloading or ejecting of tape.. Although the unloading operation during eject is normal the cassette compartment does not rise.
  • No RF output.
  • Noise bars on playback pictures. Worse in SP mode.
  • No Eject. Caution LED flashing. E-E OK.
  • Part number information. A new optical filter is used on the new lens assembly. The bulletin shows how to identify these.
  • Camera section does not switch on properly causing blank screen and scrambled lines which became magenta.
  • Does not load tape. No drum/head rotation.
  • PS901 blows after a while. (NIKON - VN9100 information)
  • Over-exposed E-E picture.
  • Jig availability. A modified RM95 remote commander is available as a servicing jig.
  • Washed out picture. in camera mode.
  • Colour changes with titler selection.
  • No brightness. in E-E (after a few minutes).
  • When in REW, drum reverses. When loading the drum slows down, then the tape is unloaded.
  • Part number information. The shape of the drum base and the guide rail base has changed. (VN9100 tips)
  • Intermittent transport.
  • Loss of date, time and title retention when DC supply is removed.
  • No colour in camera EE function (burst).
  • No reverse operation. No eject or record.
  • Transport noise in FF, REW and PB.
  • Intermittent battery operation.
  • Broken focus ring, zoom OK.
  • Unit will not close door. When applying power, mechanism ejects OK, but will not set back to load/unload state.
  • No eject. Cassette stuck, motor noise, appliance shuts down. Caution indicator blinking.
  • Recordings produce a noisy picture.
  • No functions. in camera mode. (NIKON - VN9100 information)
  • Part number information. Rotary upper drum assembly replacement.
  • Mechanical noise in REW, PB and REC. (VN9100 NIKON repair tip)
  • Excessive green. in E-E.
  • Drum runs at high speed when power is applied.
  • Distorted video tearing picture on PB after REC.
  • No tape loading, loads ok without a tape. No drum rotation.
  • Caution light on when loading.
  • Switches off after a short time. Take-up reel jolts.
  • Does not accept cassette. Mechanical crunching noise.
  • Closes and starts to load, then jams. (service info for NIKON -VN9100)
  • Camera operation is not possible.
  • Cassette ejects but new cassette cannot be inserted. (service info for NIKON -VN9100)
  • No RC functions.
  • Mechanical noise. Mechanical noise during rew, or noise captured during REC. (VN9100 tips)
  • No zoom. No auto focus.
  • No video output.
  • No audio. at start-up. OK after a while .
  • Video fades to monochrome. (VN9100 tips)
  • No E-E or recorded sound (can be intermittent). (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • No picture in certain conditions. No picture in E to E mode, removing the lithium battery causes the picture to reappear. (VN9100 NIKON repair tip)
  • Intermittently does not accept tape.
  • Cassette compartment will not release.
  • Does not load tape. intermittently.
  • No colour in own REC.
  • No colour REC.
  • No colour. in PB or REC.
  • Switches continuously from SP to LP.
  • Luminance loss. Faint chroma.
  • No luminance. (NIKON - VN9100 information)
  • Availability of zoom lens assy parts.
  • Doesn't load cassette. Creaking noise from the mechanism.
  • Tape jams. (VN9100 tips)
  • ATF servo fails during PB.
  • Blocks intermittently during tape unloading.
  • Eats tape.
  • Cassette compartment won't rise
  • TG1 arm falls out.
  • Does not accept tape. Closes OK without one.
  • Unstable picture. in PB.
  • No picture intermittently. In play mode the picture may blank after playing a few seconds, periodically re-appearing.
  • No eject. Other functions OK .
  • Adjustment information. The table given in the service bulletin lists the average evr adjustment data.
  • Service information. Caution for DC/DC converter replacement.
  • Destroys under side of tape.
  • Part number information. Replacement of leaf switch for Q (fl) mechanism.
  • Part number information. The springs of the FL mechanism have been changed. There is no compatibility with the former types.
  • Date and time lost when DC supply removed.
  • Tape spills out when REW is selected.
  • Does not load tape. No eject. Fault occurs intermittently. .
  • Automatic focus and zoom fail intermittently.
  • Mechanical operation problem. FL mechanism changes.
  • Iris does not shut down, snow outside.
  • No colour in PB. intermittently.
  • No eject. Powers down with caution indicator blinking. (VN9100 tip from NIKON)
  • No picture via the AV output. Everything is ok in the viewfinder.
  • Mechanism jammed. intermittently.
  • Failure of flexible membrane may result in various faults.
  • Dark/black camera picture.
  • No eject intermittently. Capstan motor possibly doesn't rotate. Intermittently ejects. Capstan motor not rotating.
  • Service manual adjustment. Lens block adjustment and check procedure.
  • Camera switches off again immediately since the supply table is not driven.
  • Service information. Guide rail base (1) block assy replacement.
  • FL mechanism changes.
  • No eject.
  • No REC. PB OK .
  • Service manual adjustment. In the exploded view on page 223 of service manual the ref no 317 has been assigned to two different parts.
  • Damaged door/cover. Lens cap becomes detached.
  • Unit loads half way. Drum fails to change direction, then unit unloads.
