6405 / NORDMENDE [TV]
The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers
supplies the following faults for 6405 / NORDMENDE.
List of fault symptoms:
- Channel runs through continually.
- Low tension collapses.
- At switch on front LED lights up red for 1 or 2 secs then goes out. EHT pulse is heard for a short time. Everything is blocked in safety mode.
- Tripping. Standby LED flashing dimly. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Volume and mute controls do not function after a while, OSD present. When put into standby and then back on, sound disappears.
- Picture tube is dark. Sound is present.
- Dead. Light not on. No 13.4V voltage on 16 of IP01, 315V on collector of TP29; before RP06 128V, after nothing. Smoke from RP06. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Blank raster. Audio OK .
- Picture is missing 2cm at the top of the screen and there are also lines at the top of the screen, impossible to adjust.
- No tuning.
- Intermittent loss of picture and sound; just black and white dots and lines.
- Picture has shrunk to the bottom of the screen.
- Switches to protection mode.
- When switching to standby, red LED switches off and no start up is possible.
- Cuts out when put into standby and LED switches off. Impossible to start up again by RC. Starts up again by switch after a short time. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Control board CDI 2000
- Flickering picture. at top.
- Venetian blind effect superimposed at top of picture.
- Video output stage IC (TEA5101A) on CRT board is defective. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Smearing in picture.
- Horizontal stripes at an approx 0.5cm distance during tuner operation.
- No start-up (intermittently).
- Ocassionnally no functions with RC. RC and front panel OK.
- White bar at top of screen. (picture attached)

- Intermittently NICAM sound crackles.
- Dead (intermittently).
- No horizontal deflection. Vertical white line. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- On teletext raster is blank and a 4 inch band of red and green stripes appear at the bottom of the screen intermittently.
- Line driver TL17 blows if base of S2000 connected.
- Black and white picture in PAL, SECAM, scart. OSD in colour, pin 7 of IV01 at 1V.
- Frame foldover. Line flyback at top of screen.
- Slow start-up (when cold).
- B/W picture in via scart and tuner.
- Remains blocked on PR1, no HF and AV reception. If yellow key of RCU is kept pressed in programming page is displayed but no programme possible with the RCU. No switching on all keys +V, -V, P+, P- of keyboard.
- Poor picture and sound. If you shift picture becomes ok but poor sound. Same problem from 21 to 69.
- Canal Plus in B/W. No switching switch.

- Approximately 6 inches of very bad foldover down screen with random on and off colour flashing. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- No switch on, in protective circuit mode. LED OK.
- G2 adjustment CRT8010 pcb with TEA5101 IC.
- Power supply does not work. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- No functions (intermittently).
- Noisy picture. It can be programmed but not stored.
- Makes 2 or 3 attempts at starting up and then nothing. (with circuit diagram extract)
- No function at start up. At pin 16 chopper ok.
- Venetian blind effect.
- Poor sound, noisy. Switches between stereo and mono.
- No picture. Audio and OSD OK .
- Erratic picture.
- Bright green raster.
- Distorted audio. Poor audio.
- Occasional arcing noise from tube then it works OK for a few hours.
- Buzzing noise at startup. Then appliance enters safety mode.
- Fuse FP01 blown.
- After approx 1 hour, switches channels by itself. RC does not function.
- 3 colour bars at top of screen.

- No reception. Channel display on .
- Red picture.
- Shuts down. at start-up. No LED lit.
- Colour cast over picture, variable as appliance warms up.

- Dark screen, smell of ozone. Sound ok.

- No colour when receiving satellite programmes via scart. Colour ok with terrestrial transmissions.
- No synchronisation.
- Occasionally red and blue stripes in the picture. Then picture turns black and white. Fault occurs more frequently if the appliance is cold.

- At switch on red LED comes on then immediately goes off. HT ok then goes into safety mode. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Dead, just 'ping' at switch on. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Tuning drifts and is lost.

- Irregular frame scan across picture.
- Goes into protection mode at switch on and flashes.

- TL19 (S20AF) is destroyed immediately after switch on.
- After a month's break, it no longer starts up ie. at start up the red light comes on then turns green. Line transformer is audible then a little noise is heard and the light stops. Nothing more. (with circuit diagram extract)
- To replace IC TDA8178FS. (picture attached)
- Only lines on channel 57 and 60. Channel 63 ok.
- Video output stage IC (TEA5101A) on CRT board is defective. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Low contrast. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- At start up standby LED switches on then off 2 or 3 secs afterwards. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Raster is blank with off-air breakthrough on auxiliary, sound ok.
- 8 vertical bars on right of picture via tuner and via scart. After 10 mins, horizontal bars appear at top of picture.
- Unable to adjust basic tint. Red background remains.
- No TXT.
- Blank raster. No analogue functions and no RC functions.
- Line output transistor S/C.
- Mains fuse has a short life expectancy. The current which crosses it has a pulse appearance of 0.5ms positive and negative whose pin is close to 1.6A.

- Reduced range of E/W width control. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Dead. Standby LED lit . (picture attached)
- Poor vertical linearity.
- No start-up (when cold). (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- TV functions for approx 1 min then switches off, red light present. The same in standby. Press On/Off twice and TV starts up again for 1 min before cutting out. Demand increase to 0.65A. (with circuit diagram extract)

- Electrical flash between FBT' ferrite and surrounding components.
- Sound is low and nasal.
- No signal. Blank raster. OSD OK .
- Inadequate picture controls. Black streaks after white.

- After 1 min blue screen, flyback lines and tripping. If you try to start appliance up again, it trips in 5 secs.
- Green picture at start up then colours flash, especially the blue. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- No green.
- TDA8178 defective.
- Lines in picture.
- Switches to protection mode (after start-up).
- No MONO audio.
- Channels run through and do not stop on any station. No function from RC.

- Red tinge on screen with white pictures, especially with picture adjustments menus (brightness, contrast, colour). (6405 tips)

- Bright, horizontal line in middle of picture. No vertical deflection.
- Switches to standby. after start-up.
- Picture disappears and b/w wavy lines across screen. Knock sensitive.
- Starts but does not run.
- When you put the TV into standby the power supply cuts out. If you stop it with the switch the TV starts up again normally when you switch on again.

- TV starts up but no function is possible with either RC or front panel.
- Protection mode activated. at start-up. (picture attached)
- No audio (intermittently).
- Switching to AV.
- Excessive brightness. Flyback lines.
- No tele dialog display via control panel or RC.

- No start-up (after warm-up).
- Excessive horizontal size. (with circuit diagram extract)
- No or erratic controls. OSD appearing by itself.

- Wavy picture.
- Red capital "P" 10cm left of centre. Not present in setting menu. Appears when leaving setting menu. RC does not function.
- Lines missing at the bottom on approx 3 cm after a while.

- No raster.
- Standby LED flickers.

- No NICAM.
- Flash of colour in Secam.

- Picture fails, goes away completely.
- Defective E/W correction. Pincushion effect and picture too wide. Wavy vertical lines.
