7238 BELMONTE25 / NORDMENDE [B/W TV]

The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers supplies the following faults for 7238 / NORDMENDE.

List of fault symptoms:
  • No scanning.
  • Secondary voltages are low.
  • Dark screen. Stretched vertical lines.
  • Trapezoid picture. (7238 tips)
  • Vertical line wavering at left hand side. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • PSU does not start up correctly. Standby LED flickers
  • Switches off by itself. intermittently. Standby LED lit .
  • Occasional memory fault when appliance is stopped by the general switch. When switched on again, appliance is deprogrammed. (picture attached)
  • TV switches off when changing channel and with great variations in the beam current.
  • The TV starts up. A white line appears at the top of the screen. System tension: voltage is approximately 58V, and the other voltages are low.
  • At switch on the light comes on. CTV starts up then cuts out,no light, crackling noise at the level of the power supply transformer. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • No picture. No sound. Insufficient width. Picture has a 5cm band at top of screen.
  • TV only starts up very rarely, when it does start up, RL26 smokes, the deflectors heat up and smoke, distorted picture and the colours fade.
  • White picture with stripes. Switches off after a short while.
  • Does not find channels or finds one channel tuned incorrectly.

  • Vertical lines are distorted horizontally. E/W equalisation can not be adjusted correctly.
  • Vertical lines are jagged.
  • Chroma fault. Intermittent coloured interference lines.
  • Vertical sync bar in the middle of the screen. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • In VHF range (channel 5-12) white flecks and grey haze in the picture.
  • Excessive brightness. Flyback lines. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Excessive horizontal size. at top. Reduced horizontal size. at bottom.
  • Horizontal bars on picture during operation. This is accompanied by an audible signal distorting the sound.
  • Attempts to start, then suddenly stops.
  • Signals reduced to quarter of their size and are distorted on TL19 after 3 secs from start-up. TL19 burns if left under load. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Fuse cuts out without apparent reason.
  • Four vertical bands on top of screen.
  • No direct time insertion. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Standby LED lights up and TV switches on, then 2 or 3 lines across screen and appliance switches to standby.
  • EHT arcing noise. (NORDMENDE - 7238 information)
  • No picture on upper half of the screen. Small part of picture in lower half of the screen. Just a small stripe in lower screen. Appliance switches to protection mode. (7238 tips)
  • The display is incorrect.
  • Switches off intermittently (often at programme switch).
  • OSD fades on all the colours.
  • No start-up from PSU.
  • Fuse FP2 (630mA) blows.
  • Primary power supply fails under load.
  • Unstable frame linearity.
  • Poor sound via loudspeaker, even when adjusting volume at maximum. (7238 NORDMENDE repair tip)
  • Luminance streaks and flyback lines.
  • No sawtooth signal on raster. Horizontal bar appears at bottom of picture.
  • The lamp is weak.
  • Picture has increased at the top and reduced at the bottom of screen.
  • Black lines on the picture. Poor sync. (service info for NORDMENDE -7238)
  • Channels run through and do not stop.
  • Siren noise in the speaker.
  • No light. Poor picture. Occasional horizontal tearing. If G2 is pushed in as far as it will go picture is better. Varies from 100 to 950V, 90 degree model, 114V on DP50.
  • Impossible to change standard, remains in SECAM. Picture inverted in PAL.
  • Horizontal collapse. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • All the secondary voltages are low.
  • No raster signal on pin 31 of IV01.
  • Blows fuses immediately after switching on.
  • Dead, no high voltage (7238 tip from NORDMENDE)
  • When pressing the switch the standby light comes on a little then goes off. (picture attached)
  • HV starts up for 3-5 secs then shuts down. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • US voltage is 57V. If you unplug pin 3 from the line stage transformer the voltage returns to 113V. Line stage transformer has been changed.
  • Oblique lines towards the top of the screen and there may be a demagnetization fault and the demagnetization coil is ok. The PTC has already been changed.
  • Defective picture, poor colour and white dot at switch off.
  • Line BU clicks. (7238 tip from NORDMENDE)
  • Poor start up performance of the power supply.
  • Line transformer starts up then stops.
  • Hum on sound and dark screen. Goes into standby. (NORDMENDE - 7238 information)
  • Power supply starts up for a few secs then collapses while pumping on standby light.
  • Picture flickers with coloured OSD (eg from a VCR).
  • Vertical line approx 1/3 from left of picture. Hardly visible, but annoying.
  • Stops intermittently. LED remains red. TV does not start up again with the channel button. Necessary to press the standby button then the channel button. (picture attached)
  • No channels.
  • Appliance switches off and switches on again, changes channel and there are great variations in the beam current.
  • Blackish bar after whites.
  • After changing FBT which sparks, the very high tension is ok. No light on the screen even when forcing G2 44469905.

  • Green picture. No contrast. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • TV starts up for a few seconds with a jerky noise then stops and so on.
  • Line transformer starts up three times then nothing. LED stays red.
  • B/W picture in PAL.
  • Short line pulses on the line output collector and then dead. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • At bottom of picture superimposition of a band similar to that of the sound level and to a yellow rectangle.
  • Goes into safety mode. Then switches on again for 4 seconds.
  • At switch on, the tube flashes on the loudspeaker and stops. Negative picture.
  • Very white lines at the top of the screen.
  • Intermittently stripe in lower picture part. (7238 tip from NORDMENDE)
  • Black screen. via RF output. OK via SCART .
  • Hiss in audio. in UHF.
  • Poor E/W correction. Adjustment of the amplitude is ok. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Standby LED flashes up at second intervals. Only functions at a reduced mains voltage. (picture attached)
  • Blue tinge in picture in SECAM, ok in PAL. Black and white picture ok.
  • Moire effect picture according to sound frequencies, on some frequencies the picture is ok for a fraction of a second. Melf RP54 is not present on the CTV chassis.
  • Sound ok in slow motion. A hum can be heard if you increase the power.
  • White screen with flyback line or no brightness.

  • Vertical scanning line is at bottom of screen and CTV blows.
  • Adjusting the SECAM identification: chassis.
  • Screen is dark. Slight noise from the line output transformer.
  • Switches to standby. after start-up. (7238 tip from NORDMENDE)
  • With high contrast PSU trips then starts again. Occurs randomly. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Arcing of line transformer and focus G2. Picture now has a large horizontal foldover from top to bottom of screen.
  • White line. at top.
  • After switch on, PSU fails immediately. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Channel memory loss approx every fortnight.
  • At start up standby point lights up and hum. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Fuse fails.
  • Goes into protective switching. (picture attached)
  • 10cm frizzy lines in top part of the picture. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • No start up. PSU does not oscillate.
  • No function. Reset does not react.
  • No function, standby point is not visible.
  • Coloured tinge in picture.
  • Curtain effect.
  • New transformer, TV starts up and the US voltage increases to 122V instead of 140.
  • Functions for 5 mins then all the channel numbers begin to run through constantly while each time the picture comes up again and RCU does not function.

  • Small screen, only inner side lights up.
  • Line output transformer arcing.

  • Power supply crackles once then dead.

  • Sound but no picture. White screen with flyback line.
  • Mini raster scanning.
  • At switch on everything seems to be starting up well, EHT is established then 3 secs after the line oscillation is interrupted. 7V is now 13V and stays there. TV is apparently in stand by. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Occasionally the TV pulsates at start up.
  • Channels run through, sound whistles and there are lines if picture present. (7238 tips)
  • Starts up one time out of ten then functions ok with a nominal voltage. The rest of the time it collapses. Start up and operation ok with the variac.

  • Dark screen with short bright flashes.
  • Ticking, then PSU switches off.
  • Saving new basic adjustments such as brightness.

  • Hyperband re-fitting.

  • Occasional crackling effect on the video signal.
  • Cuts out and then starts up from time to time after working for several hours. (NORDMENDE - 7238 information)
  • Low supply voltages.
  • Repeated failure of BU508DF in power supply.
  • Vertical bars. on the left.
  • Grey scale incorrect. Yellow-green picture. High voltage on the blue cathode (170V). Voltage on the red cathode, as well as on the green, is normal (135V). (7238 tip from NORDMENDE)
  • Switches to standby. intermittently. (picture attached)
  • No reception. OK via SCART . (7238 tips)
  • Picture jitters. in TXT. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Random loss of station memory when CTV starts up.
  • After operating for some time the channels begin to run through. Nothing occurs when the circuits are cooled down.
  • S2000 fails.
  • The power supply blows.
  • Tripping sound from flyback transformer, sometimes no picture, another time it switches itself OFF.
  • Does not pick up in UHF or in VHF.
  • Under certain conditions (static discharge etc.) may revert to factory set up mode.
  • Weak colour.
  • Starts up, works for 30 secs then goes into standby. Starts up again by itself after 2 mins.
  • No line output funtion. OK at switch on.
  • Only a palm high picture at bottom of screen.
  • TV starts up for a few secs with a jerky noise then stops and continues like this.
  • Slight reduction of raster amplitude.
  • Standby light lights up for 2 seconds then goes off. Appliance does not start up.
  • Picture is somewhat noisy.
  • Attempts to start then smoke appears.

  • No channel storing.
  • Horizontal white line. at bottom.

  • Protective circuit starts up. Pulsates.

  • Chroma fault occurs although the tuning discriminators and the grey scale function correctly.

  • Loud noise when switching on TV via mains. Can be intermittent.

  • At switch-on, vertical centering of picture offset by 2 cm towards the top of screen.

  • Occasionally wide interference lines (similar to a defective HF-cable) appear on the screen. Picture is ok via Scart.
  • TV01 blows after operating for 30 mins.
  • No -1V at base of TP29.

  • No start-up. Poor red LED.
  • At switch on, front LED flashes irregularly or remains fixed. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Mono sound is OK. Stereo sound scratches .

  • No 15V.
  • Picture is just at the top edge of the CRT if the vertical picture centering regulator is at the end position. The topmost lines are somewhat bent to the right.

  • Power supply does not go beyond 100V.

  • FBT is s/c twice a year. On collector TL19. 1200V instead of 1000V. CL21, CL22, CL24, CL23 replaced but fault persists. US adjusted to 143V. FBT 470034-81 CTV TA6326.

  • White line, slightly tilted at the bottom of the screen.

  • Snow in picture.
  • No horizontal synchronisation. (7238 tips)

  • Volume of basic adjustment is too loud.

  • TL19 (S2000 AF) is S/C after switch on. (service info for NORDMENDE -7238)
  • At start up crackling in the sound and arcing on the picture for a few mins then ok.
  • Noise in speaker power supply. Goes to standby, starts up again and after 3 minutes goes to standby.
  • US (110V 90º - 143V 110º) goes high after a few mins and TV trips.
  • Poor framing.

  • Vertical rainbow zones over the picture right over the width of the screen. Intermittent fault.
  • Weak contrast.
  • Picture starts off very bright and after few secs goes dark.
  • 3cm white line at top of picture. No sound and no video, not even in scart. Green LED on.

  • PSU fails immediately after switch on.
  • Humming on sound and the screen is dark. The appliance goes to stand-by after 2-5 minutes.

  • Picture is narrower. When making adjustments, the picture is wavy at the sides.
  • Synchronisation during PB of the VCR.
  • Horizontal line on a third of the picture towards the top. (picture attached)
  • RL27 burnt.
  • Noise in the HP power supply. The appliance goes to stand-by and starts up again. Dark screen and after 3 minutes the appliance returns to stand-by.
  • Goes into safety mode after operating for a few mins or hours. Necessary to wait 2 mins to start again with the RC. (with circuit diagram extract)

  • Three white lines at the top of the picture, nothing else. (with circuit diagram extract)

  • After a short time the US voltage increases so that the TV cuts out.
  • No horizontal deflection. Protective circuit trips. Standby light flashes. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Vertical lines are distorted horizontally. E/W equalizer can not be adjusted correctly.

  • Picture at the bottom. No contrast.

  • One colour missing.
  • Blurred picture which occasionally becomes normal again.
  • Does not start up. Ok if power supply is 110V. Normal scanning.
  • Line-BU TL19 (S2000AF) fails immmediately after start-up.

  • No picture content. Picture becomes increasingly bright with flyback lines. Switches to safety mode.
  • No picture, no sound, standby display dot and horizontal bars over the screen light up in display. Can only be switched on with RC.

  • Only spot, no OSD and no channels.
  • Twinning lines at top. Vertical distorted. Becomes better after warmed up.

  • Excessive green.
  • Line does not oscillate.
  • No voltage on LP36 in secondary side.
