72FUTURA / NORDMENDE [TV]
The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers
supplies the following faults for 72FUTURA / NORDMENDE.
List of fault symptoms:
- No display, no video, white screen. Flyback lines and no sound. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Instead of PIP, horizontal pink and green lines passing over picture and 1A39 numbers. The three windows occasionally shift towards centre of screen.
- Storing average values.
- Appliance functions in VHF but not in UHF. Snow is present.
- Cabinet back cover vibrates at certain audio frequencies. (72FUTURA NORDMENDE repair tip)
- No PLL locking when the appliance is switched on. The power supply from TDA6316A is 4.4V instead of 5.1V. (extract of circuit diagram attached)

- Picture is almost dark, colours are weak and the Y-signal is too weak.

- No picture and no direct display of the channel possible. Picture shifts.
- No power supply and the stand-by light is lit on.
- Excessive HV.

- Picture is missing, random lines on screen.

- At start up with mains switch or even during operation, snow appears on screen with loud cracking. OK when starting up from standby.
- No start up by RC or ON/OFF switch and total deprogramming when switching to standby by RC. Initially works normally by ON/OFF switch. (picture attached)
- No video in HF or in scart.
- Teletext displays page 100 only.
- Slow channel change.
- Horizontal collapse. (picture attached)
- No RC functions. after warm-up.
- Intermittently goes into TXT mode. (with circuit diagram extract)

- Non-linear. Cramped at top. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- TV deprogrammes, starts up again then remains in PAL. It is impossible to display S2 standard.
- Appliance switches over between VHF and UHF, instead only noise in the picture.
- Terrestrial channel in the background of a satellite transmission.
- Sharp picture but negative and pale. Service mode OK. (service info for NORDMENDE -72FUTURA)
- No NICAM stereo sound.

- Flyback line pulse does not correspond to the start of the base pulse controlling the line BU.
- Pincushion potentiometer PG08 acts as width control. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Slow start-up. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- The 2 segments in the middle are always half lit except in standby.
- Bottom of picture stretches intermittently. E/W effect.
- Channel tuning possible up to channel 45. 5 is obtained on channel 39 and afterwards no fine tuning possible. Eg. 2 on channel 59.
- Picks up the programmes with a gap. eg. in the region, the 6th channel is transmitted on channel 43 but the TV receives it on channel 52 therefore it does not pick up all the channels.
- No start-up. Pulsates 3 times in 3 secs.
- Picture is blurred. Smell of ozone.
- Contrast is low in text mode, TV and mix modes are ok.
- Vertical stripes on top.

- Occasionally sound and picture crackling. (picture attached)
- Line output transistor S/C. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Blows TP24 and/or TL31. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- No picture. White screen with an oscillating interference signal. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- No sound or picture. Dark screen. In scart with a VCR, normal sound but no picture. Raster appears faintly when the TV is switched off then switched on again immediately.
- Verification of SERVICE mode for Thomson, Continental-Edison and Brandt.
- Vertical bars. No audio. Display OK .
- Display switches off after a few seconds. Display OK at channel switch-over but switches off after a few seconds.
- No picture appears in PAL.
- No UHF reception, displays channel.

- Line amplitude is too strong and there is a problem with the east/west cushion.
- Picture is too dark - coloured edges on the right.
- Does not switch standards, remains in PAL.
- Very bright picture with frame flyback at switch on then height becomes reduced.
- No channel tuning in search mode.
- Makes 3 noisy tests then nothing.
- B/W in Canal Plus when codified. (72FUTURA tip from NORDMENDE)
- No signal.
- Vertical lines run over the whole screen. (picture attached)
- Loss of memory when you switch off the TV and in standby you need to be 5cm from the TV to start it up again despite the TV operating well. Battery is ok.
- No sound or picture. Scanning not very apparent, greenish, flyback lines. Functions occasionally in scart.
- Line transformer vibration on white pictures.
- Slight picture jitter in the vertical synchronisation. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Only channel 21 is received in UHF. Picture and sound ok in VHF. Displays the correct channels.
- Transistor TP24 fails after 15mins. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Linearity problem. Picture concentrated on three bands.
- Switches to standby. after start-up.
- Functions well but occasionally picture turns grainy as if there was a reception fault. Occasionally 5 and 6 disappear. IF screening ok.

- No audio. after a few minutes. No picture. after a few minutes. (with circuit diagram extract)
- All programme numbers tuned to the same channel.
- Poor sound in CCIR. Sound ok in France. Fault decreases when warm.
- All adjustments at zero (brightness, colour, contrast). Channels are also at zero. Adjustments can be made at 50 but they are lost during standby or ON/OFF. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- No sound. No picture. No OSD. Only purity spots.
- When the appliance switches off, a spot appears on the screen. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- No picture, white screen and there is an erasing problem after one hour.
- No picture. Audio OK . (picture attached)
- Blurred picture, fine adjustment does not adjust sufficiently.
- No sound or picture. Teletext functions. Static discharge. New appliance.
- No sound. No picture, only a horizontal line 3/4 from top of screen. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- To remove the protective circuit.
- Dark screen with some RGB lines at the bottom of the screen and whistling near the FBT. Capacitor 1000/40V has been changed but fault persists. FBT has been changed but dark screen with hum then goes into safety mode.
- Picture is shifted approx 5cm to the top. E/W and trapezium cannot be adjusted.
- Variable sound and picture crackling with snow.
- Rainbow effect on picture. Flyback lines. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Poor channel reception and channels 59 and 62 are replaced by snow. Occasionally reception is correct.
- Appliance starts poorly, RC must be pressed for a longer period of time. (picture attached)

- Shifts 8 channels after being put back into service mode.
- The picture jumps when the appliance is warm and moves downwards.

- When TV is switched on in standard G, standard cannot be modified. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- PSU collapses/cuts off. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Vertical position does not go high enough. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- No OSG, (on screen graphics). Although no OSG, picture functions can still be altered.
- In standby but no sound, colour and brightness memory. Channels are stored ok. The voltages around the EEPROM are ok.
- Fades out or very dim.
- No standby light when put into standby and impossible to start up again, except when starting up from the control panel.

- Vertical interference line (1/2cm wide) at left of picture on low channels.
- Impossible to tune French channels. Remains in CCIR. (72FUTURA NORDMENDE repair tip)
- Vertical rolling, will not lock with adjustment of the potentiometer.
- No signal. after a few minutes.
- Bright screen for short period of time, after this just snow confusion and crackling noises in sound.
- Negative picture, striped and running through in UHF. OK in VHF.
- Top of screen displays 3 coloured flyback lines, may have scan coil rattle.

- Occasional raster desynchronisation.
- Black lines appear on the screen. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- CTV loses its programming when there is a power cut. What is the value the battery must charge at ? (service info for NORDMENDE -72FUTURA)
- No synchronisation (intermittently).
- At switch on, starts up and EHT audible then dead. No standby LED. (+ extract of circuit diagram) (72FUTURA tip from NORDMENDE)
- Frame jumping or twitching. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Colour fault on PIP in SECAM.
- No picture. Loss of 1 or more colours.
- Pumps at start up then goes off.
- Goes into safety mode after counting.
- Strong, horizontal slur on bright areas of screen.
- EHT starts 3 times then power supply cuts out. EHT disconnected. (picture attached)
- When cold trips 3 times with crackling in the speaker, then safety mode. When warm trips then starts up. (picture attached)
- Dead. Standby LED flashes . (with circuit diagram extract)
- No picture only on 3 channels (eg. nothing on 1, 3 and 6 but picture on 2 and 5) after warming up for 10 mins. This problem disturbs other TVs plugged into the same aerial. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Drops out. Picture jitters. Picture becomes wider.
- No PIP.
- The picture only appears after about 3 or 4 minutes and then turns red or blue.
- Line output transistor fails repeatedly. at start-up.
- After deprogramming, followed by a reprogramming, TV functions but the channels have each increased by 9 units. Eg.: 2nd channel is 49 instead of 40. Hence it is impossible to receive channel 62.
- After operating for 5 mins in black and white, it loses G2 and turns mauve.

- No picture, only flyback raster visible with distorted raster.

- Intermittent power up; line at top. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Distorted verticals only on top.
- Poor base command. TL31 at -0.4V instead of -0.8V, correct format.
- When going into standby with RC, impossible to start operating again with the RC and light flashes after a few moments. (picture attached)
- No picture at switch-on. Sound OK. Picture may return intermittently. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Shade gradually becomes purplish. Ok at start up. Degaussing ok.
- In safety mode after working for a long time appliance trips then stops. Display off.
- Channel indication flashing 1, will not tune or adjust.
- Chopper transistor is defective intermittently. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Light spot at centre of screen when TV stopped. Spot disappears immediately.
- 5cm chroma band runs through from bottom to top. Band turns red according to content of video cassette. Without a signal black band runs through.
- No picture. Sound will not tune. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Starts up, then TV goes into protection mode. Display does not get brighter.
- Accepts channel number but will not tune.
- Appliance reacts to control commands with a time delay. After changing program site it takes approx 2 secs until picture is switched over and approx 6 secs until sound occurs.
- TV just displays LOCK.
- No tuning possible. Hum in VHF. Channel display correct.
- No UHF, VHF reception. Similar picture without an aerial. (72FUTURA NORDMENDE repair tip)
- At start up, time base and EHT for a moment then cuts out. No standby light on.
- No switching possible in standard LL. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Mains transistor TP24 (S2000AF) blown straight after being turned on.
- No functions. Standby LED flashes .
- Goes into black and white, flyback lines then stops. Dead. Starts up again 2 or 3 times then cuts out completely.
- The picture moves out of its frame when the appliance is warm.
- TXT functions for only 2 secs on high VHF. Functions OK on low VHF low and S channels.
- No reception. No UHF or VHF. Channels are displayed correctly.
- Picture from the bottom to the middle of the screen. Not possible to adjust the vertical amplification. Black screen to the middle of the screen then picture from the middle to the bottom of the screen.
- Changes between standby and ON mode. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Shuts down. after start-up.
- Rolling colours and white lines.
- TP24 fails after first EHT pulse.
- Functions in Pal but snowy screen in Secam. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- There is 145V instead of 170V and there is too much L/T amplitude.
- Black box appears instead of clock on channel change or when adjusting volume on IMC models.
- Primary power supply blows again.
- Switches to standby. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Poor start up performance of the power supply. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Convergence fault over 5cm at top of screen.
- With audio module black picture with unstable green bars. Without an audio module snowy picture but no reception.
- Shuts down. after a few seconds.

- Reacts to control commands with a time delay. After changing program site it takes approx 2 secs until picture is switched over and approx 6 secs until sound occurs.
- Starts up three times then switches off.
- Intermittent white screen with the picture in background.
- Snowy picture. After 3 mins picture returns to normal. (72FUTURA tip from NORDMENDE)
- White screen, no picture. At start up displays 1 and after 5 secs 88, no function possible 5V OK, 20V OK.
- Intermittent large noise bands. Picture OK via SCART socket.

- Picture goes to top. At bottom edge approx 5cm black. No foldover. Linearity fault. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Loss of memory. Crackle in sound. Flashing picture. Distorted µPC. No sound only noise. No stereo reception. Does not always start up. Wrong values which cannot be changed. Wrong colours and distorted PIP-function.

- No Canal Plus decoding.
- PSU starts poorly.
- Picture visible in one inch strip at left side of screen, rest is blanked. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- No display. after a few seconds. AV OK .
- Switches to standby (intermittently). (picture attached)
- Only 1/4 inch of picture at left hand side. Remainder of picture blank.
- Snow in picture. intermittently.
- Does not always start. Standby light flashes.
- Mains fuse and power supply S2000 blow at Power On.

- Double picture. Picture shifted 1mm.
- E/W fault, image amplitude cannot be controlled. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- TV does not start up. Power supply does not decouple.
- Smearing in picture. (part of circuit diagram displayed)

- Severe patterning like white sparklies. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Appliance trips and shuts down, sound or raster is missing.
- Trips three times at start up.
- Dark screen dark with vertical bright flyback lines. Picture suddenly appears leaving 2" band at top. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Switches on, but HV does not build up.
- With a 220V/100W load or with line connected, power supply stops but functions with the line disconnected.
- Blanking lines in the top part of the picture.
- Dark picture. Colour OK .
- Intermittently TV starts up. Switches on and off 3 times. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Power supply switches off.
- Dark screen with a light spot at bottom of screen.
- Picture appears to pulse or flutter.
- Chroma fault in Secam. (picture attached)
- Wavy picture on right side. Switches off after 5 to 10 mins. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Arcing at switch on. CTV trips 3 times then stops.
- Standard does not change. Channel search is ok.
- Fuse and power supply transistor defective.
- Poor RCU command, even with a brand new RCU. RCU functions ok on another TV or it is necessary to move nearer to the TV or to direct it well.
- No colour at start up. Colour appears after 10 mins but predominantly green on left side of screen. Does not react to heat or cold.
- Reduced vertical and horizontal size.
- Loss of light after 15 minutes.
- Nicam beacon flashing on/off rhymically especially at high beam current, sometimes hisses causing text to reset.

- Line output transistor fails repeatedly.
- To switch on TV from standby with RC it is necessary to press for a long time or several times on one channel.
- Channels mistune after 2 days.
- Narrow horizontal stripes in picture.
- No picture. via SCART. OK via tuner .
- Appliance trips and NICAM lights appear to flash.
- Dead (after start-up).
- Blank screen with coloured dots/interference and possible smell of over heating.

- Missing B-Y.
- Rotating vertical stripes in picture.
- After a storm no sound and no picture. No light, filament lights up, line transformer ok. screen remains dark, light appears at switch off.
- Only colour info visible. No Y signal.
- Intermittent loss of raster at switch on with white lines at the top. Flyback raster when acting on PG08 or when going to AV.
- In safety mode there is no high level on the Ger. point if the disconnection of the line raster deflector and power supply is correct.
- Unstable picture. Horizontal interference on the screen. The sound crackles.

- Intermittent break after warming up for 10 to 15 minutes. Occasionally rectified, occasionally not rectified at all. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- No switch on. When switching off with mains switch LED switches on then off. (NORDMENDE - 72FUTURA information)
- Channel displayed only.
- AGC problems. Poor reception. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Thumping noise from one channel at switch on.
- Power supply BU blows after operating for a short time. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Four vertical lines in upper picture area.
- No sound. No vertical or horizontal scanning. Just a blue line.
- Stuck in PAL. Impossible to display S2 with RC.
- Once ON/OFF switch is pressed, LED lights up then goes off.
- No colour, no brightness. Only one colour on TXT or certain colours are missing.
- Stuck in standby. (with circuit diagram extract)
- No sound. Good picture then goes into stand-by after 5 mins then starts up again after pressing a channel number 3 or 4 times.
- Vertical lines. at top. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- No picture. via tuner. (service info for NORDMENDE -72FUTURA)
- No EHT or power supply when switched on. 7V=6.3V.
- Line transformer cuts out after 5 mins but display remains on. If started up agin, remains on for 5 mins then cuts out again.
- Bright picture after 2 secs from start-up and no contrast. After 5 secs picture is OK.
- No picture when switching to TXT.
- Picture is frozen or has large white horizontal bands. PiP function is OK at switch on then no longer appears.
- No picture just scanning lines. Incorrect frame speed. (picture attached)
- At switch on, raster linearity fault for 1-2 minutes.
- NS pincushion distortion. More at the bottom than at the top.
- No vertical text lock. (picture attached)
- Dark picture with bright lines. Sound OK.
- At switch on picture is missing which intermittently returns. Sound ok.
- RF14 burns up. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Intermittent fault. No sound or picture. No display or standby light. Appliance hums. If it is stopped it starts again after a moment. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Excessive brightness. Flyback lines. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- An excessive white line is over 2/3 at top of screen. Occasionally picture attempts to spread over approx 1/3 of screen from top with green or red flyback lines. Occasionally picture spreads correctly.
- Rolling coloured and white lines. (with circuit diagram extract)
- After a few mins, switches off then starts up again. When this has happened 2 or 3 times, goes into standby. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Sound ok, raster blue with flyback lines. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Lines from top to bottom of screen.
- VHF is ok, no UHF or very little.
- Negative picture.
- No audio. OK via SCART .
- Input fuse blows again.
- After losing programming, displays channel 57 instead of 58 (9 has to be added each time to the display). Poor picture outlines.
- Blank screen with out of focus blob in bottom centre of screen.
- No switch on from main switch or via RC.
- PSU does not oscillate correctly. (with circuit diagram extract)
- No picture (after a few minutes).
- Intermittent flashing lines on screen. Picture OK with scart input. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Saturated picture and sound bands in the picture. Grains in the picture. Hum in sound on French programmes.
- No RC functions. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Scrolling with desynchronised sync.
- Brightness varies. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- When increasing contrast or on bright video scenes, chroma disappears and 1 or 2 vertical fine black lines appear on left of screen.
- No start up of PSU. No standby light.
- No picture. No audio (intermittently).
- Black screen. All the voltages are correct. The sound, line transformer and the G2 are ok but the screen remains black.
- Poor grey scale. Dominates in black and white. (picture attached)
- TV becomes blocked momentarily wen using RC and front panel.
- Poor chrominance of black/white with colour at zero.
- Colour picture via the tuner, black and white in scart.

- Impossible to change standard. Goes directly to CH.

- Scanning on the screen is visible on a part of the screen. The programme number display is correct. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Dark picture. Poor adjustment of sound. (with circuit diagram extract)
- The video fails with the decoder syster. No problem with the old decoder.
- Total breakdown. Standby can work for 1 hour or many hours. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Dead apart from "88" in display. (picture attached)
- Blows line output transformer.
- No functions, picture or sound. 88 on display.
- No horizontal amplification.
- Horizontal lines.
- Power supply BU blows after 10 secs. Correct power supply attempted with line transformer load disconnected.
- U system voltage table.
- Intermittently switches off ten consecutive times or just once. Mostly switches on again automatically. No LEDs lit when switching off.
- PR1 flickers at switch on. No channel search. No RC, no channel display. Crackling from loudspeakers when changing programme and snow in screen.
- Dead. Standby dot lights up for 1 sec. at switch off.
- PSU trips three times then powers down. Standby LED lit briefly at switch on. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Picture height is shrivelled to 10cm. A few rolling horizontal lines in the middle of the picture.
- No brightness (intermittently). (NORDMENDE - 72FUTURA information)
- No green colour. It returns but fades when contrast is set to max.
- Video disappears and comes back after a few seconds. Sound present.
- No picture, uniform white screen in HF and scart.
- Always starts in G standard. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- No picture or PLL operation. There are vertical interference bars present. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Loss of stored settings: Tuning, picture or sound.
- Approx 3cm at top of picture has coloured lines. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Red dot which disappears in the display at start up. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- No channel in band 5 and does not store the channel.
- TP48 fails after short time.
- Poor focus on picture or TXT. Low brightness and badly smeared. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- The display indicates 88.
- Display flashes in STAND BY and the TV does not start up, even with the RCU. Occasionally it starts up when you activate P and VOL, and press On/Off several times.
- Power supply switches off, breaker circuit doesn't start up even with continuous attempts to start up.
- Disable electronic lock.
- Vertical roll. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Switches off a few times each evening after replacing transformer. Intermittently switches on again after a while. Sometimes needs to be switched on again.
- When switching on with RCU, appliance does not react unless you are approx 1m away from it. (72FUTURA tips)
- Incorrect TXT graphics. Black bars displayed down screen.
- Video fault.
- No power supply. Standby light comes on then goes off.
- No Y-picture or colour.
- No V1, V2 or VS supplies.
- Poor audio.
- U5 voltage incorrect.
- Picture appears after 1.5 mins when cold and after 25 mins when warm (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- No start-up from standby. Standby LED does not light. No RC functions.
- TP24 blown when appliance goes into standby.
- Rotating vertical lines on whole image. If adjusted with potentiometer PF02, image in lower third looks correct. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Black patch on left hand side, approx 1/3 of picture. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Picture is rolled up or folded over at the bottom.
- TP24, TP16, TP19, TP11 and fuse blow. TL31 ok.
- Occasionally dead, then snow. Goes into standby by the RCU and only starts up again after 30 secs.
- Bright picture. Flyback lines.

- Programme indicator "1" flashes but will not tune.
- Speaker grill sparks.
