5521T / OTAKE [TV 55 (51) cm picture]

supplies the following faults for 5521T / OTAKE.
List of fault symptoms:
- At switch on, blank screen and loud hash noise.
- Does not start. PSU starts up briefly, then protective circuit is active.
- Crackling audio. Lines in picture. on the left.
- Tearing visible especially with crosshatch pattern. Vertical lines.
- No function, red LED lights up for a short time at switch on.
- After changing the deflection transistor BU 508 it blows again after 1-2 days. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Hum on sound and picture. Capacitor on mains rectifier has been changed. 12V and 16V on IC521 are too low. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Black screen.
- Carries out unwanted operating steps eg. switches off, switches over channel, changes volume etc.
- Low contrast (after warm-up).
- Stuck in standby. Attempts to start up, LED flashes one time and turns off.
- Vertical collapse.
- Occasionally vertical picture jitter until total failure of the vertical deflection stage.
- Switches off by itself after a while. Vertical lines on picture right side of approx 10 cm. Jamming in AV mode.
- Line S2055 fails immediately. FBT has been changed, TDA8372 has been changed.
- Picture shaking in random direction.
- Standby LED lights even after switching on, and switches then off. Lamp lights.
- Pincushion distortion.
- No video or standard switching.
- Switches to protection mode.
- Necessary modification when replacing oscillator part.
- The appliance switches off after hours or days and goes to standby. After switching on again it switches off after an even shorter period of time.
- No start-up.
- Starts up only after several attempts, fizzles for 10 secs, then OK.
- Starts up, but after 10 minutes picture is snowy and tuner sensibility decreases (5521T OTAKE repair tip)
- Bright picture. Flyback lines.
- At switch on, stand by display lights up for a short time, line end stage attempts to work, but switches off again straight away.
- Shuts down. after start-up.
- Line output transformer is defective.
- No start-up. No LED. Standby OK.
- Does not start when cold. Only chatters. Appliance runs when warm.
- Shuts down. at start-up.
- White spot when switching TV off.
- PSU chirps for approx 10 secs, then OK.
- No sound or nasal sound.
- Horizontal stripe.
- Blank raster. Flyback lines. (OTAKE - 5521T information)
- No power supply outputs.
- Switches on. Pulsates 3 times, then switches off.
- Poor start up when cold. Hiccups. OK after several attempts. (5521T tip from OTAKE)
- Station memory cuts out intermittently, especially when connecting the cable the stations fall out. Then the contrast adjustment gets defective and the appliance doesn't respond to the RC.
- Distorted picture. No audio (intermittently).
- The appliance goes out of tune in VHF.
- Small picture with hour glass effect. (OTAKE - 5521T information)
- Picture has shifted.
- After half-an-hour flashing lines appear on screen.
- Picture is missing, but sound is ok.
- Picture becomes quite dark and gets distorted after 20 or 30 minutes.
- Occasionally the PSU does not start up. If it does, the appliance is ok. (PSU on the right with STK54041).
- No synchronisation. intermittently.
- No red.
- Power supply does not function.
- No HV (intermittently).
- Distorted picture. at top.
- Does not start up. LED comes on then goes off immediately.
- No picture.
- Faulty vertical deflection.
- G2 is too high, if attempting to decrease, picture is visible for a few secs then becomes dark.
- During operation switches over by itself to other channels.
- Picture vibrates slightly for approx. 1 min.
- E/W pinch and picture is folded up vertically at bottom.
- Occasionally, goes from top of picture to the green, hum in the speaker and dark bar. Goes from bottom to top.
- The screen is black and the power supply whistles.
- Appliance is dead. Sometimes starts if turned on and off several times.
- Battery is discharged too quickly. (service info for OTAKE -5521T)
- Picture becomes snowy and image offset after approx 20 minutes of operation.
- Goes on and off again for a short time.
- Dead at switch on. Standby OK.
- Sound but no picture.
- Time base whistles and goes into safety mode. Fault persists when FBT has been changed. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Hiccups 3 times and switches off. Lamp lights.
- PSU attempts to start with noise. After 3-4 secs it stops and LED indicator goes off.
- Black shadow in centre of picture.
- Set dead. Trys to come on but trips rapidly then cuts off.
- Erratic start-up.
- Poor quality picture in high channels.
- Picture width varies according to picture content. Power supply voltages ok and stable. (picture attached)
- Tuning of the sound is incorrect as one track is O/C. (5521T tips)
- Vibration at top of picture. Picture height changes.
- Picture flickers horizontally.
- No start-up from standby. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Line shakes in the top part of the picture. V amplitude jumps.
- Stuck in standby. (picture attached)
- Power supply squeeling and dead.
- Vertical lines on right of picture. First line is blue. (with circuit diagram extract)
- PSU doesn't start up. Pulsates.
- No vertical deflection.
- Set dead or intermittently dead. Set may not go to standby via remote. (service info for OTAKE -5521T)
- The station storage breaks down completely, when connected to cable, all the programmes are mixed up. The contrast control is defective and the remote control does not work. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Purity fault and the sound hums. The positive temperature coefficient resistor has been changed. (OTAKE - 5521T information)
- Intermittent line drive failure causing no picture but sound is OK.
- Stand-by LED does not function.
- Switches off by itself. at start-up. (service info for OTAKE -5521T)
- Set dead. R502 is in open circuit but at switch on there is a bright flash and the plug fuse goes open circuit.
- The screen is black and the appliance is in safety mode. There is a white horizontal line across the screen. (picture attached)
- No audio. No picture.
- Vertical stripe in the left picture third.
- No vertical deflection, only a horizontal bright line. Sound OK.
- No start-up (when cold). Standby LED flashes . PSU pulsates.
- The picture is green and purple. No SECAM identification. (5521T tip from OTAKE)
- LED lights up for 1 sec. at switch on then switches off.
- Enable Hotel mode. Disable hotel mode.
- When switched on the appliance goes into stand by then starts up. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- No start-up (when cold). (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- The lower half of the picture does not exist.
- No tuning. Higher channels in band I/III/V are not received.
- Standby LED switches off after start-up. Dead.
- Repeat failure of the STR58041.
- Tuning drifts.
- Flickering colours with Canal Plus.
- No functions.
- Horizontal sync error. Spund appears only when horizontal is synchronized. Can be adjusted with pot, but fails again when switching channel.
- Vertical IC fails at switch on.
- No green.
- Picture pulls inwards at the top
- No picture and sound. Buzzing sound at switch on. Standby LED is blinking, then go to standby.
- Vertical lines on left side of screen, thiner towards edges and bigger towards centre, approx. 10 cm on screen. Lines tremble. Fault present also in AV mode with black screen. Switches off after a while. (OTAKE - 5521T information)
- Switches off and goes to standby after hours or days. After switching back on, the appliance switches off again after 30 mins. After that, in even shorter time.
- Intermittent no video or front display. (service info for OTAKE -5521T)
- Small, pulsating picture, low brightness, sound level varies.
- Line output stage U is 45V.
- Switches off after a few secs. with a whistling sound.
- Blank raster noise appears when aerial is unplugged.
- No blue.
- Snowy raster. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Twisted picture when switching on from cold.
- Picture wavering at top.
- The appliance remains in standby and the LED remains lit up. (service info for OTAKE -5521T)
- No colour.
- Reduced vertical and horizontal size. (OTAKE - 5521T information)
- BU508 fails in line output stage immediately after start-up.
- No start-up (intermittently).
- Sometimes while watching a TV channel, TXT appears twisted, as if it had line tearing.
- Dead, channel lights OK.
- Picture is small and pulses, brightness is low and the sound is variable.
- Excessive horizontal size.
- Chirping.
- Reduced picture, low brightness and varying sound.
- Vertical IC burnt.
- Power supply BU908 blows occasionally at switch on, never during operation. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- LED flashes briefly at switch on, then appliance switches off.
- PSU whistles. in standby.
- R702 fails at once if the aerial cable is plugged in (cable connection).
- Hum in picture. Lines shifted on top. (5521T tips)
- Intermittent shut down, numbers still light up and the channels can be changed.
- Image jitter in upper part when turning on. Disappears after a short while.
- Stretched picture.
- Impossible to go into standard LL as the appliance remains locked in standard BG. (5521T tips)

- Stuck in standby. LED flashes once and goes OFF. (OTAKE - 5521T information)
- PSU does not oscillate. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Comes on for a short time. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- 24V when disconnecting collector of line transistor, otherwise voltage collapses. Line transformer does not start up. 5V on IC721. Display does not light up, standby lights up. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- The power supply relaxes. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Stripes in picture. on the right.
- When in standby appliance hums or crackles. LED pulses.
- Standby LED flickers for approx 10 secs. Switches off.
- Stuck in standby. LED is red .
- Trips. when cold. No or intermittent start-up. when cold.
- IC401 (TDA3654) fails. (5521T tips)
- "S" distortion. Cannot be adjusted.
- Power supply goes into safety mode when coming out of standby.
- Intermittent colour bands at high contrast.
- Colour is uncontrollable. (service info for OTAKE -5521T)
- Ballooning.
- Picture is horizontally highly distorted.
- Blinking colours or no colour on Canal Plus.
- 00 on display, remote control often fails or no functions possible. (service info for OTAKE -5521T)
- E/W fault. No E/W correction.
- Appliance will not start up. IC701, D717 and C711 have already been changed. Appliance still won't start up.
- No RC functions. No front panel function.
- No start-up. Standby LED flashes .
- The side of the picture drops and a horizontal line appears. Only a third of the line end stage works. The sound is missing, but the power supply unit operates.
- No start up, stuck in standby. Red LED switches off when trying to start up.
- Power supply. When rebuilding this supply, it is possible that R512 may have failed.
- No sound or picture channel change indicator o.k. (5521T OTAKE repair tip)
- Line transistor blows after 1 hour.
- When switching from AV input to any pretuned channel, no horizontal sync, but shortly after picture synchonizes correctly.
- Encrypted Canal Plus after 1 hr.
- No picture. Sound OK.
- Dead. Whining.
- Defective mains fuse. Functions OK for two weeks after replacement. (OTAKE - 5521T information)
- Shuts down. Standby LED does not light.

- Mains fuse blown and mains transistor T707 (BU908) s/c.
- Very distorted picture with very strong vertical waves and picture almost black and white. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- No picture and no sound. Image distorted.
- Switches off intermittently, comes then back.
- Vertical jitter.
- Does not start up from standby, cracking is audible and appliance switches OFF, standby LED switches off.
