743801 / OTTOVERSAND [TV]

The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers supplies the following faults for 743801 / OTTOVERSAND.

List of fault symptoms:
  • Image jitter in upper part when turning on. Disappears after a short while.
  • Small, pulsating picture, low brightness, sound level varies.
  • No colour.
  • The appliance goes out of tune in VHF.
  • Vertical IC fails at switch on.
  • Shuts down. at start-up.
  • Static convergence adjustment.
  • Distorted picture. No audio (intermittently).
  • Purity fault and the sound hums. The positive temperature coefficient resistor has been changed.
  • Black shadow in centre of picture.
  • Horizontal centre adjustment.
  • Focus adjustment.
  • Starts up, but after 10 minutes picture is snowy and tuner sensibility decreases
  • Stuck in standby. Attempts to start up, LED flashes one time and turns off.
  • No start-up.
  • G2 is too high, if attempting to decrease, picture is visible for a few secs then becomes dark.
  • Enable Hotel mode. Disable hotel mode.
  • No sound or nasal sound.
  • Set dead or intermittently dead. Set may not go to standby via remote.

  • Line shakes in the top part of the picture. V amplitude jumps.
  • Pincushion distortion.
  • No start-up (intermittently).
  • Standby LED flickers for approx 10 secs. Switches off.
  • "S" distortion. Cannot be adjusted.
  • Switches off and goes to standby after hours or days. After switching back on, the appliance switches off again after 30 mins. After that, in even shorter time.
  • Hum on sound and picture. Capacitor on mains rectifier has been changed. 12V and 16V on IC521 are too low. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Power supply BU908 blows occasionally at switch on, never during operation. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Power supply. When rebuilding this supply, it is possible that R512 may have failed.
  • Occasionally vertical picture jitter until total failure of the vertical deflection stage.
  • Pilot tone adjustment.
  • After half-an-hour flashing lines appear on screen.
  • Necessary modification when replacing oscillator part.
  • No audio.
  • Dynamic convergence adjustment.
  • No or intermittent start-up.
  • Tuning of the sound is incorrect as one track is O/C.

  • Impossible to go into standard LL as the appliance remains locked in standard BG.

  • Picture shaking in random direction.
  • RF AGC adjustment.
  • No picture. Audio OK .
  • The side of the picture drops and a horizontal line appears. Only a third of the line end stage works. The sound is missing, but the power supply unit operates.
  • Operating voltage adjustment (power supply board).
  • Tearing visible especially with crosshatch pattern. Vertical lines.
  • PSU doesn't start up. Pulsates.

  • When switching from AV input to any pretuned channel, no horizontal sync, but shortly after picture synchonizes correctly. (OTTOVERSAND - 743801 information)
  • Reduced picture, low brightness and varying sound.
  • Focus adjustment.
  • Line output stage U is 45V.
  • No sound or picture with normal channel lights.
  • No picture, no sound, PSU is ok. High voltage builds up over a short time then appliance switches off.
  • No functions.
  • LED lights up for 1 sec. at switch on then switches off.
  • Power supply goes into safety mode when coming out of standby.
  • Focus adjustment.
  • After changing the deflection transistor BU 508 it blows again after 1-2 days. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Vertical size adjustment.
  • Standby LED lights even after switching on, and switches then off. Lamp lights.
  • No red.
  • The appliance remains in standby and the LED remains lit up.
  • No start-up (when cold). Standby LED flashes . PSU pulsates. (OTTOVERSAND - 743801 information)
  • Can not always be switched on from standby. LED goes off.
  • Defective mains fuse. Functions OK for two weeks after replacement.
  • Vertical stripe in the left picture third.
  • E/W pinch and picture is folded up vertically at bottom. (743801 tips)
  • SECAM identification adjustment.

  • Excessive horizontal size.
  • Station memory cuts out intermittently, especially when connecting the cable the stations fall out. Then the contrast adjustment gets defective and the appliance doesn't respond to the RC. (743801 tip from OTTOVERSAND)
  • No video or standard switching.
  • No memory.
  • No tuning. Higher channels in band I/III/V are not received.
  • Shuts down. Standby LED does not light.
  • IC401 (TDA3654) fails.
  • Vibration at top of picture. Picture height changes.

  • Hum in picture. Lines shifted on top.

  • Switches off by itself. at start-up.
  • Vertical IC burnt.
  • SECAM phase adjustment.
  • During operation switches over by itself to other channels.

  • Cut-off and white balance adjustment.
  • Occasionally hum distortion. Rare: audio failure on certain channels. Status displays (stereo, mono, audio 1/2) change permanently.
  • Stripes in picture. on the right.
  • Vertical collapse.

  • R702 fails at once if the aerial cable is plugged in (cable connection).
  • Horizontal frequency adjustment.
  • Sub-brightness adjustment.

  • Switches on. Pulsates 3 times, then switches off.

  • Vertical jitter.
  • Picture has shifted.
  • No HV (intermittently).

  • The picture is green and purple. No SECAM identification.
  • Line transistor blows after 1 hour.
  • Appliance will not start up. IC701, D717 and C711 have already been changed. Appliance still won't start up.
  • Switches off after a few secs. with a whistling sound.
  • Shuts down. after start-up.
  • Time base whistles and goes into safety mode. Fault persists when FBT has been changed. (picture attached)
  • Standby LED switches off after start-up. Dead.
  • Stuck in standby. LED flashes once and goes OFF.
  • Sound of AV source still audible approx. 3 sec after switching to standby. Noise when nothing is connected to AV.
  • No audio and picture. Buzzing sound at switch on. Standby LED is blinking, then goes to standby. (OTTOVERSAND - 743801 information)
  • No audio (intermittently).
  • Switches off intermittently, comes then back.
  • Stuck in standby. LED is red .
  • Very distorted picture with very strong vertical waves and picture almost black and white. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Stand-by LED does not function.
  • No picture and sound. Buzzing sound at switch on. Standby LED is blinking, then go to standby.
  • No start up, stuck in standby. Red LED switches off when trying to start up. (743801 tips)
  • Sound IF detection for 5.74MHz adjustment.
  • Does not start up. LED comes on then goes off immediately.
  • E/W fault.
  • No picture.
  • PLL centre frequency adjustment.
  • Small pulsating picture, the sound varies up and down and the brightness goes low.

  • Line S2055 fails immediately. FBT has been changed, TDA8372 has been changed.
  • Teletext frequency adjustment.
  • Blinking colours or no colour on Canal Plus.
  • Faulty vertical deflection.

  • Picture is horizontally highly distorted.
  • RF AGC adjustment.
  • No vertical deflection, only a horizontal bright line. Sound OK.

  • Crackling audio. Lines in picture. on the left.
  • Switches to protection mode. (743801 tip from OTTOVERSAND)
  • STEREO separation adjustment.
  • Carries out unwanted operating steps eg. switches off, switches over channel, changes volume etc.
  • 24V when disconnecting collector of line transistor, otherwise voltage collapses. Line transformer does not start up. 5V on IC721. Display does not light up, standby lights up. (picture attached)
  • No synchronisation. intermittently.

  • Intermittent line drive failure causing no picture but sound is OK.

  • Occasionally, goes from top of picture to the green, hum in the speaker and dark bar. Goes from bottom to top.
  • Horizontal sync error. Spund appears only when horizontal is synchronized. Can be adjusted with pot, but fails again when switching channel.

  • No power supply outputs.
  • No function, red LED lights up for a short time at switch on.
  • No start-up. Standby LED flashes .
  • Power supply squeeling and dead.
  • PSU whistles. in standby.
  • Does not memorize channels.
  • Mains fuse blown and mains transistor T707 (BU908) s/c.
  • The appliance switches off after hours or days and goes to standby. After switching on again it switches off after an even shorter period of time.
  • Twisted picture when switching on from cold.
  • Erratic start-up.

  • No control of volume from front of set.
  • Ballooning.
