MSS500 / PACE [Satellite reception system]

The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers supplies the following faults for MSS500 / PACE.

List of fault symptoms:
  • Display is dim and sometimes completely fades away.
  • Clock is faulty.
  • No decoder messages. On screen channel names float horizontally on screen.
  • Power supply whistles and no decoder messages.

  • Intermittently dead.
  • OSD rolling to left side.

  • Poor contrast with dark picture and decoder inoperative. May have rolling picture.
  • PSU ticking.
  • Rolling interference lines in picture.
  • Dead. No display.
  • PSU doesn't start up. Ticking is audible.
  • Muting does not function in timer mode from surround sound speakers.
  • Blank raster (intermittently).
  • Square pattern of white dots in columns and rows.
  • No OSD.

  • Vertical white lines on decoded channels.

  • Does not decode most encrypted sky channels.
  • No or dim display.

  • Horizontal streaky picture on whole screen.
  • Narrow rolling lines in image, rolling slightly bevelled, intensity depends on programS. Also light 25Hz flickering in the whole image.
  • Lines in picture.

  • Power supply whistles with bad lines across screen.

  • Whistling from PSU.
  • No operation.

  • Decoder message is lost after 5-10 mins. (picture attached)
  • No function, twittering noise can be heard from the PSU.
  • Dead or clicking.
  • Colour is overcontrolled, hardly any brightness.

  • Intermittently no picture from TV scart socket. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Intermittently changes channels or volume.

  • Does not REC picture from VCR SCART.
  • Blue picture.

  • Servicing receiver.

  • Evenly spaced dots on picture.
  • Dead. Noise from PSU.
  • "Card invalid" message appears on screen. (MSS500 tips)
  • Screen displays "motor overload" when positioner used. Receiver functions OK. (picture attached)
  • No satellite pictures.
  • UHF output stuck around channel 21 and does not tune.
  • "LNB SHORT" message on screen.
  • No picture from RF OUT. Picture from SCART OK

  • Interference lines on picture. Audio possibly affected. (picture attached)
  • Power supply upgrade.
  • Dead. after start-up.
  • PSU squealing or hissing.

  • P flashes below decoder messages on screen.
  • No sound or poor sound on modulator and TV scart, normal sound on VCR scart. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Blank screen.

  • Blue screen.
  • Distorted audio on centre channel with front and rear scratching sound. (+ extract of circuit diagram)

  • Dead. Ticking noise. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Picture drifts sideways then goes to black and white.
  • Changes channels by itself every 20-30 secs. (MSS500 tip from PACE)
  • Restore factory settings.
  • Patterning on terrestrial TV.
  • Dots in picture.
  • Low contrast. No decoder messages or intermittent decoding. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Switches to standby. after warm-up.
  • Faulty front panel display.
  • SMPS FET S/C. (MSS500 tip from PACE)
  • No or weak VCR output. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Dark picture. Audio OK .
  • Vertical black bar moving continuously from right to left.
  • No sound on modulator or TV scart, normal sound on VCR scart.
