ALPHA2 / PANASONIC [TV (chassis)]

List of fault symptoms:

  • Reduced vertical deflection.

  • Doesn't switch completely off from standby. Program display disappears. Standby LED lights.

  • Pincushion distortion.

  • Power supply hissing for approx 3 secs at start up and goes to safety mode. Programme display visible all the time.
  • No control possible after 10 secs.

  • TXT flashes on screen after 1 hour. Loss of sync on TXT. (picture attached)
  • No picture. No sound. Standby LED lights up. If switched on with the RC, channel display appears and can be switched over. (PANASONIC - ALPHA2 information)

  • Picture width quivers.
  • Snow on picture and low gain. (picture attached)
  • No synchronisation. in TXT. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Poor picture, contrast being very low irrespective of the customer control setting. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Text fault. Channel flag is present and stable, but there are no bar graphs for colour, sound etc. When the set is switched to the teletext mix mode, a perfect text display is produced. (picture attached)
  • Looks like text line at top 3" of picture.

  • No picture. No sound. Raster OK. CRT-filament lights, blocked on channel 0.
  • Picture folds over at sides. Then a vertical bar remains in the picture.

  • Picture is shifted inwards at the right side. Fault occurs after approx 15 mins.

  • Dark picture via S-VHS input.

  • LED briefly lit after switch on, then progr. 1 or 2 starts. No other entries possible. No picture and no sound.
  • Line BU is S/C.

  • Horizontal lines in top half of picture when cold. Entire picture trembles.
  • E/W fault (intermittently). (picture attached)
  • Defective or erratic oscillating colours.
  • Whistling in the power supply, depending on the load.
  • Buzzing from PSU.

  • PSU pulsates.
  • No convergence.
  • Powers up momentarily. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Horizontal lines at the top part of the picture. OSD insertions slowly run vertically through the picture.

  • Flashover voltage in PSU.
  • No HV.

  • Hissing noises after switch on

  • Repeated failure of field output chip IC451 (AN5521).
  • White bar (approx. 10cm) on top of the picture.

  • Bright red raster.
  • One colour missing.

  • Set operated perfectly for an hour, then the sound would mute and controls wouldn't work. (picture attached)
  • Appliance squeaks very loud. No picture. No sound.

  • Line output stage transistor fails after a while.

  • No vertical synchronisation.

  • TV goes into safety mode at switch-on.

  • Unstable OSG.
  • After approx 1 hour the picture becomes approx 3cm too small at the right edge.
  • Fizzle noise after turning on.

  • Starts up, then no function from remote or main controls.
  • Q551 fails again after a short time.
  • No luminance but chrominance in the display.

  • Vertical distortion. Horizontal deflection with vertical stripes and pairing effect.

  • Strong chirping after switch on. No channel appears.
  • Picture twists horizontally causing E/W distortion when warm.

  • Poor vertical line across right side of picture.

  • Line output transistor fails repeatedly. after start-up.
  • Picture not locked and/or no text, will lock if the text button is pressed or set is put into AV then back to TV.

  • Power supply does not start up. Standby LED does not light up.
  • No light (Y signal) in reception via tuner nor via SCART input. TXT and OSD OK.
  • If left on teletext, white beating bars appear over text.
  • No horizontal oscillation signal. Whistle from PSU often.
  • Lines in picture.

  • Black screen.
  • Line transistor BU508D fails again straight away immediately after switch on. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • After about half an hour's use and when a different channel is selected, the channel information derived from the text flashes unlocked across the screen. There is also loss of teletext synchronisation. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • No function. Loud cracking from the main PSU.
  • PSU whistles.

  • Picture and sound are missing, channel change ok.

  • Dead, channel number lit; may come on for short time then turns off but neon display remains. (picture attached)
  • Intermittent colour and saturation is low. (picture attached)

  • Starts up, line transformer starts up then cuts out. Channel display remains.
  • Blank raster. OSD OK .

  • Cannot be switched properly to standby, sound muted after pressing standby key on RC, programme display disappears and standby LED lit, picture still present.
