NVH65B / PANASONIC [Video recorder - VHS HiFi]

supplies the following faults for NVH65B / PANASONIC.
List of fault symptoms:
- Reel table does not turn, could be intermittent. (PANASONIC - NVH65B information)
- Drive does not function, makes a tapping noise.
- High quality amplifier gain adjustment.
- Cassette threads in only partly.
- Drive is blocked after cam gear (pos 111) has slipped through. Sector gear (Pos. 39) is broken.
- No switch off at end of tape (neither tape start nor tape end). (PANASONIC - NVH65B information)
- Picture shakes, no colour, interference stripes, HiFi sound fails.
- Does not lace up fully. Magnet pulls in but releases too early.
- Capstan is too slow. Grinding sound.
- STEREO separation adjustment procedure - Decoder section.
- Audio muting adjustment procedure - Audio section.
- Poor servo lock. No sound and counter not working. (picture attached)
- Slow lace up. Cassette ejected. (PANASONIC - NVH65B information)
- The tape creases during play and tape loops form when winding.

- VCO adjustment.
- In FF and REW switches to F1.
- In Eject cassette goes in again straight away.
- The appliance accepts the cassette and laces up. Does not initialise and no longer unlaces. F1 displays the faults.
- Cassette not accepted. After switch on starts up for a short time then fails. 0.00 on display. (picture attached)
- No functions (intermittently).
- FM audio carrier frequency adjustment.
- No display. Tape stuck.
- Tape stuck (intermittently).
- Intermittent loss of colour in the record mode.
- No picture through the AV (scart and BNC). (service info for PANASONIC -NVH65B)
- The mechanism is stuck and cannot be moved manually although the gears are positioned correctly.
- After current failure appliance does not function. Nothing on display. Drive rattles.
- Mechanism moves jerkily to and fro at cassette loading and ejecting.

- The tape comes out again during record. The appliance goes to playback when loading the tape.
- Intermittently E-E picture only displays ragged dark raster.
- In PB take up reel table does not turn.
- Head drum jerks in PB mode after a certain time.
- When plugging in HF, the K36 transmission channel disappears. The picture is blurred or has no colour. (NVH65B PANASONIC repair tip)
- The sound is too low even in EE function. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Diode D1008 (MA185) constantly fails after switch on.
- No operation.
- After a certain time the appliance loses the stored stations. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Accepts cassette but the two shafts which put the tape in Stop position do not perform their movement right to the end and stop half way. VCR goes into standby.
- No FF. No eject.
- Chroma recursive adjustment.
- Tape stuck. No operation.
- Incorrect REW and FF after a while. (NVH65B tips)
- The mechanism shifts. Readjust mechanism. After switching on appliance starts to load cassette and switches off again. Mechanism is in incorrect position again.
- Eject and/or reverse search do not function or function incorrectly. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Tape end disconnection fails. When rewinding video tape is torn out of the cassette at the end of the cassette. (with circuit diagram extract)
- In REW blocks after a few rotations and the tape unwinds. Mechanism in safety mode and tape is ruined.
- Solenoid switch does not pull in.
- No eject. Other functions OK .
- The drive mechanism is stuck. Appliance does not accept the cassette and indicates F7. (NVH65B tips)
- Leaves loop of tape when EJECT selected.
- No reception after a power supply repair. Search runs through. (service info for PANASONIC -NVH65B)
- Coloured striations in the picture in PB.
- Tape loops and loud noises without any obvious reason.
- By PB, tape is loaded, after that relay cannot release and VCR stops. By hand OK. (NVH65B tips)
- Does not load tape.

- Picture falls over in PB. Video head drum runs irregularly or too slowly.
- Appliance only laces in one quarter then F1 is displayed.
- No picture or no sound. Weird responses.
- Power LED and display flicker when connecting the mains voltage or mains does not supply enough power. (picture attached)
- No EE picture, the picture is black. (picture attached)

- Horizontal sync MMV1 adjustment.
- No eject, in fact machine is sluggish when lacing the tape.

- D8 (MA185) and D18 (MA2200B) S/C.
- Level meter sensitivity and balance adjustment procedure - Audio section.
- Can be switched on, then capstan motor turns slowly with cassette in appliance. No more operation possible. Then switches off again.
- Appliance runs normally then occasionally becomes very hot on the housing lid. No longer reacts to operation and tape loops form.
- No function when power supply cold. When appliance starts, Program + and - buttons doesn't work.

- The threading magnet "jitters".
- Station search finds a station but does not store it. (picture attached)
- Appliance blocks when cassette is loaded. (PANASONIC - NVH65B information)
- Tape laces then unlaces.
- The capstan does not start or runs jerkily. (picture attached)
- If tape has run back, appliance no longer goes to PLAY.
- Dead (after power failure).
- Shuts down when REW selected.
- Fault F1. After removal and fitting of compartment everything is ok for a short time.
- STEREO separation adjustment.

- Dead. Lift jammed halfway.
- VU level meters are different with a mono signal. (NVH65B tips)
- Solenoid switches on/off a few times when tape is inserted. Intermittently tape is threaded in and then unlaces.
- In PLAY and in RECORD the tape curls and the top part deteriorates.
- Switches in PB and display «AIDC».

- No colour or the colour is intermittent during playback. (with circuit diagram extract)
- The audio meter lights up. The appliance does not accept any command. (with circuit diagram extract)
- All the segments light up weakly in the background.
Otherwise the appliance functions correctly. (picture attached)
- HIFI playback is correct, but recording is only possible when passing through the longitudinal track.
- No PB. Switches off before complete lace-up. End position is not reached.
- The capstan motor runs constantly backwards -also during play and FF. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Impossible to remove cassette. Displays F1 and no further functions. When cassette is unjammed manually, everything starts up again and F1 disappears but fault reoccurs after 2 months.
- Appliance locks and does not start up. Once accepted, cassette is not ejected any more.
- Mechanical fault, F1 is displayed.
- Dead. Tape stuck.
- LEDs are not lit or tapes not accepted at switch on.
- Drive rattles. No display.
- IC7501 clock adjustment.
- Video tape is torn out of the cassette when rewinding at the end of the cassette. (with circuit diagram extract)
- No loading in PB. Drum runs for 5 secs then stops. FF/REW and eject ok.
- No functions. Tape stuck.
- Mechanical problems.
- During HF connection the channel K36 moves slightly. The picture is blurred or occasionally without colour.
- No picture on E-E or PB.
- At switch on head drum runs, in PB the drive functions but drags.
- Left reel table does not run backwards in REC/Pause. (NVH65B PANASONIC repair tip)
- Tape damage when switching from REW to Eject or from Stop to Eject. (NVH65B tip from PANASONIC)
- Playback works ok, but EE operation is not possible. (picture attached)
- Cassette is lowered and the tape is only pulled in halfway. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- The appliance laces up and then unlaces
- No sound during L-R or L+R channel. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- The video tape creases, tears or forms loops.
- The tape rubs on the synchro head. The lower edge of the tape is creased.
- Left reel does not turn.
- No EE picture and the capstan runs too fast during PB.
- Cassette is inserted, appliance displays F1 after a short period. Then it does not accept any more commands and the cassette has to be removed manually.
- No function, the appliance whistles.
- In Standby (0.7 A) the current consumption is too high.
- In PB function the head drum runs but does not lace up the tape (intermittent). The PSU or something else makes a lot of noise on the FM band.
- Dead apart from a whistling noise for a few secs at switch on.
- Display flashes and at times switches on but does not display the programme number and does not tune. Goes ok in Play. (picture attached)
- Function fault/drive function is distorted.
- Programs drift off tune.
- At Power On cassette compartment attempts to start up without a cassette then switches off and F1 on display. Programme 1 flickers.
- Drum motor speed changing.

- Video frequency response adjustment procedure.

- No characters in display. No exchange of data between timer PDC board and the channel select board.

- On HiFi playback the left hand channel does not work. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Occasionally tape loop remains hanging out of cassette when ejecting a cassette.
- Chroma delay adjustment. (PANASONIC - NVH65B information)
- Accepts cassette up to the stop position, capstan continues to turn , then F1 is displayed.
- The appliance does not function but the timer works. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Magnet clatters or PSU doesn't start up. (NVH65B tips)
- No function. No voltages at plug P1001.
- No sound, poor servo lock and no counter. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- When pressing Play key, mechanism positions correctly with difficulty or switches to "Stop". Sometimes stops in any mechanical position, especially during REC.
- Tape keeps reeling sometimes when unlacing or switches off sometimes when reeling.

- Toothed rack in cassette compartment skips.
- Tape is damaged.
- Defective programme switch (always switches to programme 1). No tuning. Tape switch does not function. (Always switches back).
- After ejecting cassette appliance retracts cassette again.
- Stops after approx. 45 mins. playing time. Tape stays laced up, display goes dark and then displays F1. After pressing e.g. Play unlaces appliance then laces up again then functions again for approx. 45 mins.

- Audio deviation adjustment.
- Cassette compartment gear rack skips the pinion.
- Green screen with flyback lines, loses memory.
- Clock loses settings after approx 10 mins power failure.

- Colour interference through picture, the head motor runs out of sync intermittently.
- Sometimes does not load cassette correctly and blocks.
- Sound is distorted through the HF modulator but is O.K. coming through phono plug. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Colour noise in picture.
- Intermittently no colour or no colour during own recordings or PB or pre-recordings.
- Mechanical noise every second in PB mode. (NVH65B tip from PANASONIC)
- Laces in tape. Tape runs but ATTS is not carried out. Switches off with F1. FF and REW, PB (too quickly) is possible for a short time.
- Intermittent E-E.
- VU meter levels do not tally with a mono signal (NV-D80 only).
- The cassette is accepted and loaded until stop position, but then part of the tape is immediately unloaded. The appliance then switches off and locks.
- Chrominance REC current adjustment procedure - Luminance, chrominance and head amp section. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- The appliance accepts the cassette, but no drive function possible, but the symbol is displayed.
- No REC, only records grey, vertical lines.
- Does not switch automatically to normal track when cassettes without HiFi recording are used. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Sound multiplex detection adjustment procedure - Decoder section. (NVH65B tips)
- Poor cold start, poor colour, does not lace properly.
- Electronic protection intervenes.
- Blows fuse in secondary, placed vertically on PSU. Only "DIGITAL" on display.
- The appliance initialises, but does not rewind.
- Chewing tapes.
- Error code "F1" and "7, "TIMER" flashes in display. No control.
- Intermittent picture during EE operation.
- Mechanism jammed.
- Blocks on channel 99 at switch on. Impossible to change. OK in PB. (picture attached)
- Not loading properly. Misses half-load position and ejects after one attempt.
- Capstan motor has no power, the cassette cannot be laced in.
- Drive is blocked after the cam gear slips.

- Crackling when cassette compartment moves down/up.
- Appliance races in PB and REW but no picture. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Mechanism solenoid chatters and cuts out.
- When pressing the eject button the tape is not laced back into the cassette.
- Drive mechanism makes rattling noises. Does not accept cassette. Display blinks and indicates "F7".
- Cassette jammed in appliance (had not been inserted correctly). Keeps trying to take in cassette.
- Defective tape drive
- With some types of cassettes, appliance blocks in FF or when the display indicates F1 and the mechanism blocks.
- When switched off, capstan shaft rattles and head drum moves jerkily. When switched on cassette is loaded and laced in, but head drum moves jerkily. (NVH65B tips)
- Does not recognise E-240 cassettes in ATTS operation or recognises them as E-60 cassettes.
- The EE picture and the picture coming from the tuner are fuzzy.
- No functions. (picture attached)
- Accepts cassette jerkily, periodically display brightens then darkens.
- FM detection transformer adjustment.
- Clicking solenoid when lacing in and/or unlacing.
- Loud drive noises can be heard during lacing up and unlacing.
- In appliance cassette is in continuous REC. Commands are not accepted from RC.
- FM audio REC current adjustment.
- Picture fluctuates rhythmically/ laterally.

- The appliance does not function (display is dark). (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Does not accept tape. intermittently.
- Dead. Hissing coming from PSU.
- Drive does not function. Switches off immediately.
- Starts up, capstan motor turns slowly. No further control.
- If cassette is not removed immediately after Eject, cassette is retracted again, else drive mechanism functions faultlessly. If there is no cassette in compartment, error code F1 is indicated.

- The test picture generator does not function.
- No picture through the HF and video out. (part of circuit diagram displayed)

- Black horizontal lines on white background during PB. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Any tape transport mode will take place when commanded but will only take place for about 4-6 seconds. EE ok but no sound. (PANASONIC - NVH65B information)
- Cassette compartment jams.
- Cassette compartment is pulled in and pushed out at switch on. This is repeated until appliance switches off.
- Cassette does not lower completely. Appliance displays F1.
- Under load the 5V and 6V control voltages are missing. Without a load there is only voltage on pin 4 of IC1001.
- Lifting magnet in the drive rattles. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Tape is damaged. Switches off by itself.
- Ragged edges break off.
- Tape guides engage but jam just before automatic identification of cassette length (AIDC) is activated in PB mode. Display shows F1.
- If cassette and then the slide blocks, drive slips.
- Occasionally tape loops form when unlacing. The left reel table pulls the tape back too late.

- Horizontal sync MMV2 adjustment.
- Video tape is not unlaced completely.

- In SP REC there are noise bars across picture. OK in LP REC.
- Intermittently deck gets stuck during loading or ejecting.
- Initialises with much difficulty therefore only normal counter display. All other drive functions are ok.
- Intermittently switches off during REC and PB.
- Brief chirp when plugging into the mains, otherwise no function.

- Error code F1. Cassette compartment does not lower fully during loading and Help does not function.
- Toothed wheels of the drive control skip.
- Relay ticks in drive (switches on and off). (PANASONIC - NVH65B information)
- Counter does not function in FF or REW. OK in picture search and PB.
- When operating directly the picture is noisy and the recorder picture is missing.
- Appliance does not accept the cassette and shows F1 in the display. The compartment lowers automatically and comes back up again.
- During record the appliance switches off after a few seconds, but not during playback. (picture attached)
- The appliance does not accept the cassette. The slope of the clock pulse is not steep. (picture attached)
- Displays F1 after tape loading, then all functions are blocked, except for EJECT.
- Cassette is loaded and immediately unloaded. Display shows F1.
- PSU has no function.
- Head servo fault, picture tips over sideways.
- PSU is dead.
- Motors run but magnet does not switch. (NVH65B PANASONIC repair tip)

- Capstan will not start. Neither during play, nor winding. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- No function. Crackling sound from PSU.
- No AID function and goes into rewind. No other function. Mechanism constantly moving but no error displayed.
- AV-tuner switch-over is not possible.
- Tape start and end are not recognised. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- F1 fault. After removing and refitting the compartment everything is ok for only a short time.
- The tuner picture sometimes disappears and has interference. It appears when there is movement or knocking.
- No function, no display, low chirping of PSU.
- F1 displayed with the so called appliance series due to cassette compartment blocking.

- Power supply blocked.
- Display does not flash. Cassette stuck in appliance. (NVH65B tip from PANASONIC)
- Cassette is accepted and laced up into Stop-Position, however straightaway afterwards a piece is unlaced. Appliance switches off and locks.
- Loads tape then ejects immediately.
- No PB. No eject.
- Clock is dark, cassette is accepted but not ejected again. Audio meter lights up. Appliance does not accept any commands. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- No function. The PSU does not start. If the voltage is measured with the test appliance at STR1606 pin 3, the appliance switches on.
- Intermittently sticks during load or eject.
- Noise in rewind of E240 tapes.
- No function. Hums and humming gets slower. Rings as if it were operated without load.
- No cassettes ejected at the start. Works normally but programme 1 flashes constantly. (NVH65B tip from PANASONIC)
- No display.
- After introducing video tape, ATTS mode does not switch on.
- Defective PSU. Brake solenoid rattles for approx 30 secs. then PSU stops oscillating.
- Timer muting frequency adjustment.
- No function,display dark.
- No mechanical functions.
- Display is bright in standby mode, becomes dark when switched on. (PANASONIC - NVH65B information)
- Tape is ejected after insert or after being loaded for a short while. (PANASONIC - NVH65B information)
- PB of a cassette with normal sound only gives noise. Both of the red LED's next to the VU-meter are lit up. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- The display is dark, everything else works correctly. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- PB audio switch adjustment.
- The tape is creased.
- No loading. The cassette is not lowered completely and jams.
- Sound multiplex detection adjustment.
- Tooth segment is broken.
- VCR accepts the cassette but tape is not loaded. Error code F1 is displayed.
- Tape laces up then unlaces during review mode, switches to E-E then plays.
- Tape loops in Eject and REV.
- No colour. Sound is muted. Interference.
- High pitch noise E-E mode, noise in hi-fi amp. (picture attached)

- Disk drive is locked and F1 displayed. Disk drive works again, if it is freed with brake lifting magnet and fault F1 appears again later.
- Malfunction, the capstan motor occasionally runs or not at all.
- No picture via the RF output.
- No REW.
- No EE picture during recording. During playback the appliance runs too fast an jerkily and the picture is also missing. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- No tracking adjustment possible. No audio. No sync.
- Sometimes no cassette accepted. Sometimes laces in and displays F1. (NVH65B tips)
- No sound present during any of the operation modes (via HF and Audio Out). (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Appliance loads the cassette and laces up the tape. Unable to eject the cassette.
- Cassette is retracted. Appliance initializes. Sometimes reel table does not run during initialization. Occasionally PB is too quick.
- Takes in tape but ejects it immediately. Display shows: "Tape".
- Mechanical noise at switch on. After a few secs display flashes in same rhythm. Cassette is blocked in mechanism which may be unsynchronised.
- Cassette housing does not open or close completely.
- Reeling not working.
- Audio output level adjustment procedure - Decoder section.
- when the appliance has been disconnected from the mains for a long time the power supply unit does not oscillate any more.
- PB chroma cyan level adjustment procedure - Luminance, chrominance and head amp section. (picture attached)
- No sound in record. EE operation is ok. During PB of this recording, rhythmic interference zones occur in the picture every 10 secs.
- Cassette not accepted, due to mechanism out of synchronisation.
- Head switching in pictures of own recordings. (picture attached) (NVH65B tip from PANASONIC)
- No mechanism operation when cassette inserted.
- Black picture appears in PB function (as in AV). Jumps again to tuner function if Stop pressed.
- Cassette is accepted. ATTS is not carried out.
- The display is dark, the cassette is taken , the audio meter is lit up but no other function is possible. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Faulty tape loading. Magnet sticks and unsticks.

- REW motor does not function.
- No colour during PB. Using a different recorder the colour of an own recording is present. (with circuit diagram extract)
- The appliance sometimes pulls the cassette compartment back a bit and then laces up automatically. The capstan motor or reel motor runs fast, the display does not light up.
- Relay switches too much during lacing process.
- In drive position REW mode, take-up reel table is not moved.
- Does not accept the cassette. Switches off and occasionally refuses all functions.

- No eject.
- Tape will not lace up.
- After initialization run cassette is not recognized or no hour/mins display of the casette. Only counter display.
- No ATTS, head drum does not run, Play does not function, no fault indication F...

- Drum and capstan motor are not locking. Interference in E-E mode.
- Capstan makes noises.
- Occasionally pinch roller does not position itself against capstan. Cassette loads ok.

- Erratic functions.
- Picture changes between brightness and darkness. Bright lines run horizontally across the screen.
- No start-up.

- No mechanical functions. Shuts down.
- Appliance laces up then either switches off or gets stuck.
- With EJECT the tape continually goes in and out. IC208 in the power supply becomes hot.
- Tape drive function too slow.

- Tape loads half way then comes out of cassette.

- Tape laces up ok but does not run fast enough.

- Appliance laces up very slowly and after playing may not eject.
- Dead after tape is accepted. (NVH65B tip from PANASONIC)
- Part info: Value of zener diode D18 in secondary power supply.
- When ejecting tape it jams on tape guides, this is happening once out of 100 times.
- No initialisation, electromagent no longer switches after plugging in the mains plug.
- 4,43MHz on IC202 and 5V on pin 16 of IC2001 is missing. Servos do not run. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- No secondary voltages. 300V on the primary.
- Main audio output level adjustment.
- Picture impairment in slow and pause mode.
- Faulty REW mode. Appliance locks during reverse search. PB and forward picture search are OK.
- Display shows a flashing F1 after inserting a cassette and VCR carries out any functions. Battery OK.
- Squeaking between mode changes.
- Voltages in load: Pin 3 = 0.3V (5.2V), Pin 4 = 1.7V (6.2V), Pin 5 and 6 = 1.3V-2V (12.6V/13.7V). (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- No tape recognition during ATTS operation. When reeling or in PB, switches to stop after approx. 10 secs.
- Defective storage rechargeable battery. (NVH65B tip from PANASONIC)

- FM detection transformer adjustment procedure - Decoder section.
- The mechanism rattles, sometimes F1 is displayed, the lifting solenoid has switched, but the lever mechanism is stuck.
- No deck functions and/or information on display is corrupted.
- Cassette flap has come off causing drive to go out of sync (after inserting a defective cassette).
- After inserting the cassette, the lacing bolts stop halfway up. Capstan can be heard running continuously during this. F1 error appears.
