TOP17XA / PEACOCK [17" monitors]
The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers
supplies the following faults for TOP17XA / PEACOCK.
List of fault symptoms:
- Shuts down (intermittently).
- Phase position is slightly displaced and noisy. Occasionally picture blanks.
- No start-up.
- Occasionally no high voltage, horizontal twitching, picture pumps (larger-smaller) or occasionally picture is dark.
- Picture flickers, drifts horizontally.
- Vertical end stage fails.

- Specifications.
- Lower, horizontal side of the picture runs slightly diagonally.
- Horizontal output stage Q306 (2SC5048) fails.
- Runs for approx 5 mins and then switches off. During the operation line transistor remains relatively cold, gets hot at the moment of switch off. Green lamp at the front also disappears.

- Smearing in picture.
- IC201 (TDA8351) fails.
- OSD flashes and is different colour.
- OSD moved to right so only half is visible.
- Intermittently no horizontal sync.
- Occasionally variations in brightness. OSD drifts, colour drop out.
- No picture width adjustment.

- Slow to power up, hazy when it does. (TOP17XA tip from PEACOCK)
- Excessive width and E/W bowing.
- Occasionally dark picture when using freezer spray in the uP area.
- Whistling noises and occasionally picture jitter.
- Horizontal output transistor blown repeatedly.
- E/W fault.
- Jitter at screen edges.
- Clicking noise.
- OSD rolls.
- OSD does no synchronise.
- Occasionally fault when shaking.
- No raster. LED on.
- No functions.
- Occasionally Q306 fails.
- Picture is much too wide.
- Green picture.
- Occasionally green horizontal lines.
- Dead.
- Power supply switching transistor fails after 5-10 mins.
- Thin black lines in display.
- Pincushion distortion.
- Switches off at irregular intervals.
- Screen dark.
- Picture is too wide, does not adjust, switches off.
- No horizontal size/pincushion adjustment.
- Brightness varies. Picture OK. Clicking noise.
- No horizontal drive.
- Picture width jumps.
- Picure width is too narrow and cannot be adjusted.
- No raster at switch on.
- Faint wavy picture.
- Vertical lines on the left.
- Colour flashes.
- Picture drop outs. Knock sensitive. uP mutes.
- Waves and lines on left hand side of screen. (TOP17XA PEACOCK repair tip)
- Occasionally picture jumps approx 2-3mm to the right and left.
- Poor pincushion, cannot be adjusted.
- Picture cuts out then comes on flashing.
- White horizontal line. (TOP17XA tip from PEACOCK)
- Video disappears then returns. (TOP17XA tips)
- Brightness intermittently changes.
- Picture is blanked once a second after a long operating time. Heat fault. (TOP17XA tip from PEACOCK)
- Occasionally picture failure. Reacts to shaking on the picture tube board.
- Horizontal position varies.
- Picture disappears (loose contact).
- Picture only appears 2 minutes after switch-on.
- Excessive width, only partial control.
- Picture disappears sporadically for 1-2 secs then appears with wrong colours.
- Picture appears and disappears every 2 secs.
- Switches off after run length. Occasionally distorted picture after switching on again. Line frequency is incorrect, too bright, too dark.
- Streaks in the picture, especially recognisable on focus test pictures.
- Picture has shifted horizontally.
- Thin vertical wavy line at approx 3" from left side. (TOP17XA tip from PEACOCK)
- No picture. LED flashes. PSU pulsates.
- Horizontal shift.
- Shaking and lines in the picture.
- High voltage is too low.
- Intermittent picture. LED orange. No sync.
