P2004 / PERDIO [TV]

List of fault symptoms:
  • Blank screen (intermittently).

  • No EHV.

  • Dead. Standby LED lit .
  • Intermittent failure to switch on.

  • Field collapse or part scan.
  • Incorrect functions.
  • Line frequency drift.
  • Red raster.
  • Dead, standby LED lit.
  • No picture. at start-up.
  • Horizontal instability at switch on from cold. Fault disappears when warm.
  • Occasionally dead with no channel display or goes to standby. (P2004 tips)
  • Appliance is dead. When standby selected on RCU relay operates.
  • Some front panel buttons do not function. (P2004 tips)
  • No RC functions.
  • No brightness control.
  • No start up, one pulse every 300ms at pin 7.
  • Stuck on one channel, no remote control operation and no response from the set's on-board controls.
  • Blank raster with black bars on picture.
  • Audio.
  • No vertical synchronisation. Reduced horizontal size.
  • The appliance is dead but will start if you hold in switch so start contacts are made.
  • No raster. at start-up. (P2004 PERDIO repair tip)
  • Horizontal stages.
  • Sometimes stops working or switches to standby.
  • Super sandcastle.
  • Picture shifted vertically. Unable to adjust it to the correct position.
  • System not returning to TXT mode.
  • Horizontal output transistor shorts at switch on.
  • No volume, contrast, brightness and saturation functions.
  • Poor sync and excessive gain on picture.
  • Switches to standby intermittently and remains stuck in that mode. (PERDIO - P2004 information)
  • Intermittent raster and red line.
  • No operation. (P2004 tip from PERDIO)
  • Defective vertical frequency.
  • Intermittent destruction of power supply components.
  • No functions.
  • Q800 overheats.
  • Modification to replace TDA4505 with TDA8305.
  • Excessive bright screen with only one colour (often blue). Intermittent fault with colour pulses shape.
  • Set displays CH but unable to reprogram memory chip.
  • Uncontrollable HT.
  • No start-up.
  • Vertical black line on left side.
  • Switches to standby (intermittently).
  • Does not enter TXT mode. (PERDIO - P2004 information)
  • Two or three buttons not operating. (P2004 PERDIO repair tip)
  • No picture.
  • Trips.
  • Insufficient height, needs retuning.
  • Blank raster.
  • Horizontal lines.
  • Insufficient picture height and loss of original tuning of the stations.
  • No colour.
  • Fast hiccuping.
  • Comes on with bright green screen.
  • Colour decoder, non TXT (TDA3565).
  • Picture shifted to one side. Line phase out.
  • No vertical deflection on bottom part of CRT screen.
  • Flashing picture.
  • Tuner.
  • Colour decoder TXT (TDA3561A).
  • No synchronisation. High contrast.
  • Intermittently blank screen or thin lines, one colour
  • One of primary colours (RGB) is missing.
  • Stripes on left side, plus smearing.
  • No field linearity. (P2004 tips)
  • Brightness changes.
  • Stuck in standby. intermittently.
  • Defective band switching (I, III, UHF).
  • Cannot set all cut offs.
  • No raster. No audio. Display OK .
  • No vertical drive signal at pin 3 of IC100.
  • No picture, or only one colour.
  • Picture jitters vertically and horizontal deflection line pairing (two by two).
  • Intermittently dead.
  • No start up. Stand-by light on.
  • No energy transferred, but 20ms bursts of pulses. (P2004 tips)
  • Not starting up. No pulses at pin 7.
  • Appliance switches to standby and then back on when the channel is changed.
  • Dark vertical line at right hand side of picture.
  • Dead. No picture. Frame collapse produced by advancing screen voltage.
  • Missing picture or sound and no channel display. Raster displayed if A1 control advanced.
  • Unable to store data in memory. Correct display indication.
  • Goes to TXT but appears negative.
  • Noisy picture and or video smearing.
  • Dead or poor power up.
  • Line pairing and vertical jitters.
  • Picture shifted.
  • No channel display and no sound or vision. Brightness can be obtained by slightly advancing the setting of the first anode control.
  • Picture disappears after a few secs or does not appear at all.
  • Intermittent standby.
  • Corrupt TXT.
  • No output from pin 26 of horizontal oscillator.
  • Defective picture horizontal centering (incorrect operation of horizontal phase control).
  • Full frame collapse.
  • Reduced vertical and horizontal size. (service info for PERDIO -P2004)
  • Line frequency incorrect.
  • Vertical output IC400 (TDA3653).
  • Dark picture with brightness control at maximum.
  • Dead sometimes comes on if switched on and off a few times.
  • Tries to start then shuts down. Cannot be run on dummy load.
  • Switches off after a few minutes, no channel indicator.
  • Black, horizontal lines drifting down screen.
  • No text only mix mode. (P2004 PERDIO repair tip)
  • No audio.
  • No vertical deflection when increasing voltage on CRT accelerator anode (G2). Sound ok.
  • Striations.
  • New CRT has been fitted. (service info for PERDIO -P2004)
  • Fizzing or squealing from the chopper transformer at switch on, possibly dying away after a few minutes or alternatively continuing for much longer, accompanied by fine tearing of verticals in the picture.
  • Audio output.
  • Centre fram cramp.
  • CRT base.
  • IF jungle IC100. TDA4505 and TDA8305.
  • Picture suddenly goes bright and smeary.
  • No operation. intermittently.
  • No output, RC.
  • Bright raster. Flyback lines.
  • Noisy and/or spotty picture. (P2004 tip from PERDIO)
  • Set displays CH when switched on.
  • No start-up. intermittently.
  • Switches on from cold, but will not switch back on from warm.
  • No display or functions.
  • Blank screen. Reduced vertical size.
  • No signal at base of horizontal drive transistor.
  • No EHT. No picture. Sound OK.
  • Snow in picture.
  • Unable to adjust cut off point of the three guns (red, green or blue) of CRT.
  • Tripping at 1Hz, chirping sound.
  • Hum in audio.
  • Excessive bright screen with only one colour (often blue).
  • Switches on OK but cannot change channel, volume, etc. (P2004 tip from PERDIO)
  • Travelling humbar on right of screen. Visible from bottom of screen to approx 1/2 way up.
  • Negative picture. Appliance switches to TXT mode.
  • Returns to TXT but with floating header.
  • Set dead. Channel 3 showing in display.
  • Switches to standby. (PERDIO - P2004 information)
  • No picture. Audio OK .
  • Horizontal driver, no output.
  • Vision buzz in audio.
  • Humbar on vertical scan.
  • Amplitude faults (super sandcastle pulses shape).
  • Excessive brightness. Flyback lines.
  • Super sandcastle. (service info for PERDIO -P2004)
  • No field drive. Field collapse.
  • Cannot set one gun cut off.
  • Dead.
  • No standby via RC.
  • Height is reduced and tuning unstable.
  • Intermittent loss of power.
  • Line phasing or picture shift incorrect.
  • No power on AC.
  • Blank, grey raster. Audio OK.
  • F800 blown.
  • AGC control, picture overload.
  • Goes dead with a flash and puff of smoke. (P2004 tips)
  • Vertical oscillator, no output.
  • One colour, blue, full on.
  • Squealing from PSU. Trips. (P2004 tips)
  • No functions, display stuck.
  • Set starts up and works for days or does not work at all.
  • Dead. Starts after 5 mins.
  • Audio IF.
  • Horizontal pulse section of the super sandcastle oscillogram is incorrect.
  • Q800 S/C.
  • Dark screen.
  • No or low energy output. (P2004 tips)
  • No synchronisation.
  • No picture. No vertical deflection.
  • Blank raster. at start-up. TXT OK .
  • Line transistor S/C, fuseable resistor R811 is O/C.
  • One colour flashing or full on.
  • Vertical collapse.
  • Intermittent. Won't come on/goes light/dark.
  • Unwilling to power up intermittently.
  • Flickering picture.
  • Picture stretched in centre otherwise OK.
  • Incorrect functions. No tuning.
  • Not storing.
  • TXT lines at top of picture.
  • Switches to standby. after a few minutes.
  • Bright, blank raster.
  • Low height, no picture unless A1 turned up, no tuning function.
  • HT too high at switch on and drifts down when set has warmed up. (P2004 tips)
  • Picture tearing and PSU squeals.
  • No line drive.
  • Ragged verticals. (PERDIO - P2004 information)
  • One of user controls (contrast, brightness or colour) is defective.
  • Shuts down (intermittently).
  • No function of IC300 or corruption of IC301. Shows as going into standby.
  • Low/ high EHT.
  • After a few minutes the display sticks on one channel usually AV and refuses to perform any other functions.
  • Dead with two little bars on the display.
  • Goes to TXT but frame jitters.
  • Width slightly low with black band on right hand side.
  • Picture foldover in middle of raster.
  • Raster too wide/narrow.
  • No picture. Blank raster. Audio OK .
  • Tuning drifts.
  • AGC fault, overloaded picture.
  • No functions. Intermittently standby LED appears.
  • Picture is too bright or too dark.
  • TXT lines on picture. Cramping at top.
  • Set would not come on from standby via the remote control.(It will start if precise action was applied to the mains switch).
  • Unable to adjust cut off point of one of the three guns (red, green or blue) of CRT.
  • Front control operation incorrect.
  • RC handset.
  • Distorted audio.
  • Control buttons.
  • Tuning point shifted.
  • Horizontal output, no EHT.
  • Starts only after several tries.
  • No EHT. Sound OK.
  • Goes to TXT mode but no data on screen.
  • Grainy picture. (P2004 tip from PERDIO)
  • Low audio.
  • Reduced vertical deflection. Blank raster.
  • EHT low.
  • Low gain.
  • Lines in picture. at top .
  • Slow start-up.
  • Tripping. (P2004 PERDIO repair tip)
  • No picture. No sound. Display flickers when TV is switched off.
  • Poor vertical linearity.
  • Tripping. intermittently.
  • Vertical frequency incorrect.
  • Striations on right hand side.
  • Bad patterning and picture foldover in middle of raster.
  • Colour flashes over black and white picture intermittently.
  • Blackened fuse.
  • Q801 and R816 fails repeatedly.
  • Intermittent standby. Starts up and work for days.
  • Dead, intermittent to start with.
