20DV2039 / PHILIPS [Video recorder - VHS HiFi]

The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers supplies the following faults for 20DV2039 / PHILIPS.

List of fault symptoms:
  • Cassette is ejected and is immediately retracted. This way it gets stuck once in a while. PSU must be pulled in for turning off.
  • Poor tracking.
  • Half lace arm does not return to correct position.
  • No REW (intermittently). (20DV2039 tips)
  • No functions (intermittently).
  • No sound after recording, sound from previous recording is not erased.
  • Activate modulator.
  • Reel brakes not operating.
  • Does not load tape. intermittently. (20DV2039 tip from PHILIPS)
  • Drive does not work correctly and is noisy.
  • Tape is not fully laced into the cassette when ejecting (tape loop with tape damage). Slow FFW and switches back to picture search
  • Picture disappears after a short time if it is switched to AV.
  • Head sticking (binding).
  • No PB and E-E.
  • Cassette functions but no picture. "Standby/P1" blinks.
  • Cassette is briefly accepted, laces up a little bit, then fast forwards briefly and cassette is ejected again. (20DV2039 tip from PHILIPS)
  • VCR 1 - VCR 2. Adjustment of VCR; adjustment of RC. The adjustment must be performed if the VCR works via front keys and it displays VCR 1 (or 2) via RC.
  • No loading. Arms go back and forth then ejects.
  • No erase.
  • Occasionally chassis does not carry out functions.
  • Squeaking from the appliance and waves in the picture after some time.
  • Does not carry out drive mechanism functions or carries them out correctly only sometimes, nontransparent faulty picture.
  • Dead. No display.

  • Enter service mode.
  • Poor eject then goes into safety.
  • Slow lace up. No eject.
  • Defective components after defective PSU.
  • Does not lace up correctly. PB only after pushing play button twice. Tape loops. Cassette is not always accepted
  • Cassette is ejected.
  • Tape sticks during forward and rewind and occasionally during PB according to the type of cassette.
  • No tuning. Black screen.
  • Intermittently chews tapes.
  • No brake (supply spool) at end of REW or FFRWD.
  • Poor picture.
  • No eject.
  • No or intermittent picture. in PB.
  • No functions. No display. Shuts down.
  • Dark display.
  • Creases tapes. Noise bands on screen. Displays "TRACK". (20DV2039 tips)
  • No REW. Goes into CUE instead of FF.

  • Adjust RF channel.
  • Deck jammed.
  • Lift does not stop by eject.
  • No audio.
  • Brake does not function when winding. Tape loops at beginning after REW. (20DV2039 tips)
  • Tape stuck inside when switching from REW or FF to eject.
  • Chassis does not reach half loading position after accepting tape.
  • Intermittently stops.
  • No OSD.
  • Chassis does not respond to anything. Display OK.
  • Tapes tangle, sometimes eject and sometimes just switch off when PB.
  • No deck functions when cassette inserted. (service info for PHILIPS -20DV2039)
  • Head switching point adjustment. (20DV2039 PHILIPS repair tip)
  • No fast rewind. Slow FF. (20DV2039 PHILIPS repair tip)
  • No PB. Eats tape.
  • No functions. intermittently (in standby).
  • Ejects cassette after one second in PB.
  • After inserting the cassette, display shows "LOCKED". (PHILIPS - 20DV2039 information)
  • No EE picture, picture is black and white with streaking in Play. Channel is indicated in display. In REC no EE picture either, channel is received but it is played back poorly, as described.
  • Lound noise from mechanism. When ejecting tape, lift loads again and ejects by itself several times.
  • Rattling in fast forward.
  • White screen (in E-E).
  • Worm gear repairing set installation.
  • No REW. No FF. Tape looping.
  • FF and REW do not function correctly or not at all.
  • FFWD faulty.
  • No sound with pre-recorded (original) tapes. (20DV2039 tip from PHILIPS)
  • Does not load tape.
  • Colour may be missing at new REC.
  • Poor tape guide at pinch roller.
  • Cassette deck doesn't come to HALFLOAD position when cassette is inserted.
  • Disable child lock.
  • No mechanism operation.
  • OK for short time from standby or when tape inserted; then immediately ejects tape and goes back to standby.
  • No picture. in PB. Audio OK .
  • Loads tape then ejects immediately.
  • Mechanism blocks. (20DV2039 PHILIPS repair tip)
  • No picture in PAUSE.
  • CUE mode is noisy.
  • No REC function from standby position.
  • No RC functions.
  • No loading or unloading. Stuck half way.
  • Back tension arm does not return to correct position when unloading.
  • Colour missing in PAL REC.
  • No eject. Does not accept cassette when manually wound; PB and REC OK.
  • Poor synchronisation.
  • Occasionally, after cassette has been introduced, pre-loading does not occur. Cassette has to be ejected again. If PLAY button is pressed, appliance switches off. It can be restarted only after disconnecting mains.
  • Intermittently reel motor speed is slowing.
  • Intermittent colour.
  • Deactivate modulator.
  • Dead.
  • Tape spillage at times.
  • Locks up during REW.
  • Sound mutes when certain tapes are used. No sound in REC. Fault occurs intermittently. (service info for PHILIPS -20DV2039)
  • Lift does not come low enough, cassette is rejected.
  • Intermittent FF and REW. Tape loops on EJECT.
  • No FF. No REW.
  • Power supply no function.
  • Cassette is not retracted. Display lights up. No function.
  • Tape looping intermittently.
  • Defective driver, clatters, accepts no tape.
  • Slow or no loading
  • Dead (intermittently).
