20DV739 / PHILIPS [Video recorder - VHS HiFi]

supplies the following faults for 20DV739 / PHILIPS.
List of fault symptoms:
- No Show View.
- Chassis does not respond to anything. Display OK.
- Tape spillage at times.
- No loading or unloading. Stuck half way.
- No eject. Does not accept cassette when manually wound; PB and REC OK.
- FF and REW do not function correctly or not at all.
- Power supply no function.
- No PB. Eats tape.
- Poor tape guide at pinch roller.
- Does not lace up correctly. PB only after pushing play button twice. Tape loops. Cassette is not always accepted (20DV739 tip from PHILIPS)
- No tuning. Black screen. (20DV739 tip from PHILIPS)
- Lound noise from mechanism. When ejecting tape, lift loads again and ejects by itself several times.
- Cassette is ejected and is immediately retracted. This way it gets stuck once in a while. PSU must be pulled in for turning off.
- Does not load tape.
- No REC function from standby position.
- Defective components after defective PSU.
- Head sticking (binding).
- VCR 1 - VCR 2. Adjustment of VCR; adjustment of RC. The adjustment must be performed if the VCR works via front keys and it displays VCR 1 (or 2) via RC.
- Loads tape then ejects immediately.
- Tape looping intermittently.
- Tape is not fully laced into the cassette when ejecting (tape loop with tape damage). Slow FFW and switches back to picture search
- Distortion of sound in Hi-Fi PB.
- Half lace arm does not return to correct position.
- No OSD.
- Intermittently chews tapes.
- Tape stuck inside when switching from REW or FF to eject.
- Locks up during REW.
- Squeaking from the appliance and waves in the picture after some time.
- Cassette is briefly accepted, laces up a little bit, then fast forwards briefly and cassette is ejected again.
- Lift does not come low enough, cassette is rejected.
- Poor eject then goes into safety.
- No sound after recording, sound from previous recording is not erased.
- No loading. Arms go back and forth then ejects.
- Dark display.
- Chassis does not reach half loading position after accepting tape.
- Occasionally chassis does not carry out functions.
- No audio (via SCART). (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- FFWD faulty.
- Occasionally, after cassette has been introduced, pre-loading does not occur. Cassette has to be ejected again. If PLAY button is pressed, appliance switches off. It can be restarted only after disconnecting mains.
- Cassette deck doesn't come to HALFLOAD position when cassette is inserted.
- Worm gear repairing set installation.
- No fast rewind. Slow FF.
- No REW. Goes into CUE instead of FF.
- Back tension arm does not return to correct position when unloading.
- Mechanism blocks.
- Defective driver, clatters, accepts no tape.

- Tape sticks during forward and rewind and occasionally during PB according to the type of cassette.
- Lift does not stop by eject.
- Cassette is not retracted. Display lights up. No function.
- Tapes tangle, sometimes eject and sometimes just switch off when PB.
- OK for short time from standby or when tape inserted; then immediately ejects tape and goes back to standby.
- Rattling in fast forward.
- Ejects cassette after one second in PB.
- No FF. No REW.
- Cassette is ejected.
- No deck functions when cassette inserted.
- No brake (supply spool) at end of REW or FFRWD. (20DV739 PHILIPS repair tip)
- Brake does not function when winding. Tape loops at beginning after REW.
- No eject.
- Reel brakes not operating.
- How to enter or exit child lock.
- After inserting the cassette, display shows "LOCKED".
- Slow or no loading
- Creases tapes. Noise bands on screen. Displays "TRACK".
- Deck jammed.
- No mechanism operation.
- No audio.
- No picture. in PB. Audio OK .
- Drive does not work correctly and is noisy.
- Intermittent FF and REW. Tape loops on EJECT.
- Sound crackling in PB or no sound. Sometimes display indicates STEREO even with a mono tape.
- Slow lace up. No eject.
