2SB41 / PHILIPS [Video recorder - VHS HiFi]

The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers supplies the following faults for 2SB41 / PHILIPS.

List of fault symptoms:
  • No audio.
  • Brake does not function when winding. Tape loops at beginning after REW.
  • After inserting the cassette, display shows "LOCKED".
  • OK for short time from standby or when tape inserted; then immediately ejects tape and goes back to standby.

  • Drive is blocked.
  • Poor tape guide at pinch roller.
  • PSU does not function.
  • Appliance fault after cleaning and lubricating the idler wheels.
  • Tapes tangle, sometimes eject and sometimes just switch off when PB.
  • FF and REW do not function correctly or not at all.
  • Lift does not come low enough, cassette is rejected.
  • No eject. Does not accept cassette when manually wound; PB and REC OK.
  • Tape stuck inside when switching from REW or FF to eject.
  • Part no info: PSU repair kits.
  • Cassette deck doesn't come to HALFLOAD position when cassette is inserted.
  • No eject.
  • New capacitors 2620 and 2622.
  • No REW. Goes into CUE instead of FF.

  • Cassette is ejected.
  • Intermittently chews tapes.
  • Reel brakes not operating.
  • No audio (via SCART). (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • No PB. Eats tape.
  • Dark display.
  • Creases tapes. Noise bands on screen. Displays "TRACK".
  • Rattling in fast forward.
  • Tape sticks during forward and rewind and occasionally during PB according to the type of cassette.
  • No loading or unloading. Stuck half way.
  • Part no. info: Drive repair kits. (service info for PHILIPS -2SB41)
  • Worm gear repairing set installation.
  • Ejects cassette after one second in PB.
  • Slow or no loading
  • Sound cuts out repeatedly when the TV is watched via the VCR. Tuner has been changed to no avail.
  • Cassette is not retracted. Display lights up. No function.
  • Chassis does not respond to anything. Display OK. (PHILIPS - 2SB41 information)
  • Top cover pos.22
  • Does not load tape. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Part no. info: new upper cylinder tool.
  • Defective driver, clatters, accepts no tape.
  • Lound noise from mechanism. When ejecting tape, lift loads again and ejects by itself several times.
  • No audio record or old recording is not erased.
  • Service info: modifications of the lacing motor and its holder. (2SB41 tip from PHILIPS)
  • VCR 1 - VCR 2. Adjustment of VCR; adjustment of RC. The adjustment must be performed if the VCR works via front keys and it displays VCR 1 (or 2) via RC.
  • How to replace power IC SPH4690 by TDA4605.
  • No fast rewind. Slow FF.
  • Poor eject then goes into safety.
  • Does not lace up correctly. PB only after pushing play button twice. Tape loops. Cassette is not always accepted
  • Service info: PSUs NSM1 and NSM1A are mounted with 2 various ICs.
  • Drive does not work correctly and is noisy.
  • Cassette is ejected and is immediately retracted. This way it gets stuck once in a while. PSU must be pulled in for turning off.
  • FFWD faulty. (service info for PHILIPS -2SB41)
  • Mechanism blocks.
  • Does not load tape. intermittently.
  • No operation. PSU pulsates.
  • No tuning. Black screen.
  • Defective components after defective PSU.
  • Deck jammed.
  • Power supply no function.
  • Poor tracking.
  • No loading. Arms go back and forth then ejects.
  • Squeaking from the appliance and waves in the picture after some time. (2SB41 tip from PHILIPS)
  • Cassette is briefly accepted, laces up a little bit, then fast forwards briefly and cassette is ejected again.
  • Tape looping intermittently.
  • Half lace arm does not return to correct position.
  • Head sticking (binding). (PHILIPS - 2SB41 information)
  • No picture. in PB. Audio OK .
  • Tape is not fully laced into the cassette when ejecting (tape loop with tape damage). Slow FFW and switches back to picture search
  • Occasionally, after cassette has been introduced, pre-loading does not occur. Cassette has to be ejected again. If PLAY button is pressed, appliance switches off. It can be restarted only after disconnecting mains.
  • Intermittent FF and REW. Tape loops on EJECT.
  • Back tension arm does not return to correct position when unloading.
  • No deck functions when cassette inserted.
  • No mechanism operation.
  • No OSD.
  • No brake (supply spool) at end of REW or FFRWD.
  • Lift does not stop by eject.
  • Tape spillage at times.
  • Loads tape then ejects immediately.
  • Occasionally chassis does not carry out functions.
  • Does not load tape.
  • Chassis does not reach half loading position after accepting tape. (2SB41 PHILIPS repair tip)
  • Service info: PSUs NSM1 and NSM1A are fitted with 2 different ICs.
  • No sound after recording, sound from previous recording is not erased.
  • No FF. No REW.
  • Locks up during REW.
  • Low sound in REC.
  • No REC function from standby position.
