2SB4702 / PHILIPS [Video recorder - VHS HiFi]
The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers
supplies the following faults for 2SB4702 / PHILIPS.
List of fault symptoms:
- Lift does not come low enough, cassette is rejected.
- No FF. No REW.
- Tapes tangle, sometimes eject and sometimes just switch off when PB.
- Drive does not work correctly and is noisy.
- Squeaking from the appliance and waves in the picture after some time.
- Loads tape then ejects immediately.
- Back tension arm does not return to correct position when unloading.
- FFWD faulty. (2SB4702 tip from PHILIPS)
- Brake does not function when winding. Tape loops at beginning after REW.
- Cassette is not retracted. Display lights up. No function.
- Deck jammed.
- Lift does not stop by eject. (service info for PHILIPS -2SB4702)
- No sound after recording, sound from previous recording is not erased.
- Cassette is ejected and is immediately retracted. This way it gets stuck once in a while. PSU must be pulled in for turning off.
- Head sticking (binding).
- Cassette is briefly accepted, laces up a little bit, then fast forwards briefly and cassette is ejected again.
- Dark display. (2SB4702 tips)
- Intermittently chews tapes.
- Occasionally, after cassette has been introduced, pre-loading does not occur. Cassette has to be ejected again. If PLAY button is pressed, appliance switches off. It can be restarted only after disconnecting mains.
- Tape looping intermittently.
- PSU does not function.
- Top cover pos.22
- No operation. PSU pulsates.
- Locks up during REW.
- Cassette is ejected.
- Intermittent FF and REW. Tape loops on EJECT.
- Poor eject then goes into safety.
- No audio record or old recording is not erased.
- Worm gear repairing set installation.

- Cassette deck doesn't come to HALFLOAD position when cassette is inserted.
- New capacitors 2620 and 2622.
- No loading. Arms go back and forth then ejects.
- Does not lace up correctly. PB only after pushing play button twice. Tape loops. Cassette is not always accepted
- Slow or no loading
- No PB. Eats tape.
- Sound cuts out repeatedly when the TV is watched via the VCR. Tuner has been changed to no avail.
- Poor tracking.
- Does not load tape. (picture attached)
- OK for short time from standby or when tape inserted; then immediately ejects tape and goes back to standby.
- Poor tape guide at pinch roller. (2SB4702 tip from PHILIPS)
- No mechanism operation.
- Defective components after defective PSU. (2SB4702 tips)
- No eject. Does not accept cassette when manually wound; PB and REC OK.
- Defective driver, clatters, accepts no tape. (PHILIPS - 2SB4702 information)
- No REW. Goes into CUE instead of FF.
- Power supply no function.
- Does not load tape. intermittently.
- No picture. in PB. Audio OK . (PHILIPS - 2SB4702 information)
- Chassis does not respond to anything. Display OK.
- Ejects cassette after one second in PB.
- Mechanism blocks.
- No loading or unloading. Stuck half way.
- Tape spillage at times. (2SB4702 tips)
- No fast rewind. Slow FF.
- No OSD.
- Occasionally chassis does not carry out functions.
- Part no info: PSU repair kits.
- No audio.
- Reel brakes not operating.

- Slow lace up. No eject.
- Rattling in fast forward.
- Service info: PSUs NSM1 and NSM1A are mounted with 2 various ICs.
- Drive is blocked.
- No eject.

- FF and REW do not function correctly or not at all.
- Appliance fault after cleaning and lubricating the idler wheels.
- Chassis does not reach half loading position after accepting tape.
- No brake (supply spool) at end of REW or FFRWD.
- Service info: modifications of the lacing motor and its holder.
- Half lace arm does not return to correct position.
- Creases tapes. Noise bands on screen. Displays "TRACK".
- Tape sticks during forward and rewind and occasionally during PB according to the type of cassette.
- Part no. info: correction in the customer service manual.
- Tape is not fully laced into the cassette when ejecting (tape loop with tape damage). Slow FFW and switches back to picture search
- Lound noise from mechanism. When ejecting tape, lift loads again and ejects by itself several times.
- Service info: PSUs NSM1 and NSM1A are fitted with 2 different ICs.
- Does not load tape.
- No audio (via SCART). (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- No deck functions when cassette inserted.
- Tape stuck inside when switching from REW or FF to eject.
- Part no. info: Drive repair kits.
- VCR 1 - VCR 2. Adjustment of VCR; adjustment of RC. The adjustment must be performed if the VCR works via front keys and it displays VCR 1 (or 2) via RC.
- No REC function from standby position.
- Low sound in REC.
- No tuning. Black screen.
