2SB4711 / PHILIPS [Video recorder - VHS HiFi]

List of fault symptoms:
  • Locks up during REW.
  • Dark display.
  • OK for short time from standby or when tape inserted; then immediately ejects tape and goes back to standby.

  • No deck functions when cassette inserted.
  • Mechanism blocks.
  • Tape spillage at times.
  • New capacitors 2620 and 2622.
  • Poor tape guide at pinch roller.

  • No FF. No REW.
  • Cassette blocked and noise from the gears when connecting to the mains.
  • Chassis does not reach half loading position after accepting tape.
  • Cassette is briefly accepted, laces up a little bit, then fast forwards briefly and cassette is ejected again.
  • Intermittent picture rolling in tuner function. No sync. Intermittently no sound.
  • Cassette is ejected and is immediately retracted. This way it gets stuck once in a while. PSU must be pulled in for turning off.
  • No REW and slow FF.
  • No audio record or old recording is erased.
  • Does not load tape. intermittently.
  • Tape stuck inside when switching from REW or FF to eject.
  • Cassette is not retracted. Display lights up. No function.
  • FFWD faulty.
  • No mechanism operation.
  • Reel brakes not operating. (PHILIPS - 2SB4711 information)
  • Black picture in station search. Reception OK via HF.
  • Slow lace up. No eject.
  • Power supply no function.
  • No REC function from standby position.
  • Lift does not come low enough, cassette is rejected. (PHILIPS - 2SB4711 information)

  • Lift does not stop by eject. (service info for PHILIPS -2SB4711)
  • Service info: PSUs NSM1 and NSM1A are fitted with 2 different ICs.
  • Part no. info: PSU repair kits.
  • No picture. in PB. Audio OK .
  • Worm gear repairing set installation.
  • Does not load tape.
  • No PB sound. E-E sound and picture OK.
  • Drive does not work correctly and is noisy.
  • Tape sticks during forward and rewind and occasionally during PB according to the type of cassette.
  • Poor colour or black and white in SECAM. PB OK in PAL.
  • No audio. (service info for PHILIPS -2SB4711)
  • Brake does not function when winding. Tape loops at beginning after REW.
  • Disable child lock.
  • No sound after recording, sound from previous recording is not erased.
  • Does not lace up correctly. PB only after pushing play button twice. Tape loops. Cassette is not always accepted
  • Squeaking from the appliance and waves in the picture after some time.
  • No brake (supply spool) at end of REW or FFRWD.
  • Ejects cassette after one second in PB. (PHILIPS - 2SB4711 information)
  • Poor eject then goes into safety.

  • Occasionally chassis does not carry out functions.
  • Head sticking (binding).
  • No loading or unloading. Stuck half way.

  • No OSD.
  • Deck jammed.

  • Back tension arm does not return to correct position when unloading.
  • No loading. Arms go back and forth then ejects.
  • No eject. Does not accept cassette when manually wound; PB and REC OK.
  • Loads tape then ejects immediately.
  • Occasionally, after cassette has been introduced, pre-loading does not occur. Cassette has to be ejected again. If PLAY button is pressed, appliance switches off. It can be restarted only after disconnecting mains.
  • Rattling in fast forward.
  • No audio (via SCART). (picture attached)
  • Creases tapes. Noise bands on screen. Displays "TRACK".
  • Slow or no loading
  • Poor tracking.
  • Chassis does not respond to anything. Display OK.
  • Part no. info: new upper cylinder tool.
  • After inserting the cassette, display shows "LOCKED". (service info for PHILIPS -2SB4711)
  • No REW. Goes into CUE instead of FF.
  • VCR 1 - VCR 2. Adjustment of VCR; adjustment of RC. The adjustment must be performed if the VCR works via front keys and it displays VCR 1 (or 2) via RC. (2SB4711 tip from PHILIPS)
  • Tapes tangle, sometimes eject and sometimes just switch off when PB.
  • No eject.
  • Cassette deck doesn't come to HALFLOAD position when cassette is inserted.
  • Tape looping intermittently.
  • Starts PB then right reel table stops. Tape is too tight when coming out of supply reel table.
  • Intermittently chews tapes.
  • Intermittent FF and REW. Tape loops on EJECT.
