2SB5702 / PHILIPS [Video recorder - VHS HiFi]

List of fault symptoms:
- During playback of own recording the picture is not erased, the sound can be heard.

- Appliance takes the cassette in, laces up, but the video head does not come up to the correct speed.

- Occasionally interference lines or disturbances across the whole picture and also no sound.
- Counter runs the wrong way.
- Rattling in fast forward.
- No audio.
- Tracking ok in normal play. After REV defective tracking at tape exit. FM carrier shows pinch effect. Picture ok in CUE.
- Video heads get dirty each time the cassette is ejected.

- Occasionally there are interference lines or disturbances across the whole picture with no sound.
- The brass tape lever next to the pinch roller twitches during play, the take- up reel runs jerkily.

- No deck functions when cassette inserted.
- Switches between SP and LP at playback. Time-indicator changes.

- HF-AGC adjustment PAL/SECAM
- Lift does not stop by eject.
- When unlacing the tape lever remains pressed on and the threading ring does not go to its starting position.
- Drive does not work correctly and is noisy.
- The brake lifting solenoid rattles during service function A5. (picture attached)
- In PB goes to fFF or REW by itself. (part of circuit diagram displayed)

- Half lace arm does not return to correct position.
- In record mode, set switches accidentally to E1; display gets confused.
- The cassette compartment lowers and appliance loads the tape. Capstan motor does not start up. (picture attached)

- Retracts cassette again after it has been ejected.

- PAL chrominance REC current adjustment
- EE picture is distorted. During playback the lines fold over. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- The cassette is not pulled in straight

- When trying to eject the cassette, it jams on the upper part of the operating panel.
- After changing the ERASE/REC/PB head, REV picture search does not function.
- Does not accept tape.
- Timing of the Show View REC.
- Locks up during REW.
- Picture is distorted (lines run from left to right, the picture is torn).
- Defective operation during backward search.
- No picture in viewfinder, mainly on UHF high channels.

- During playback of own recording the picture in the background is not correctly erased. Sound can be heard in the background.
- No loading. Arms go back and forth then ejects.
- Poor eject then goes into safety.
- Head sticking (binding).
- Switches off REC and PB sometimes, unlaces and rewinds.

- Occasionally the picture disappears or the picture shows vertical black and white lines. Sometimes the colour disappears.
- Creases tapes. Noise bands on screen. Displays "TRACK".

- Intermittently chews tapes.
- Appliance does not initialise correctly. Tape loops form on the pinch roller and the display shows F1 or F7.
- Cassette flap does not open. Cassette cannot be removed.
- Timer REC with a SAT receiver.

- New lacing motor for decks with production code WD43 and higher.

- Pulley shaft + worm shaft (pos. 47 + 48).
- No longer possible to operate appliance or data line is blocked.
- Poor tape guide at pinch roller.

- During own recording and occasionally during playback there are lines in the picture after playing for a certain time. The picture jitters vertically and the sound goes out of tune.
- No OSD.

- Playback picture folds over at the upper edge. Head servo is too slow during picture search.
- During playback the appliance switches back and forth between the AV picture and the HF modulator picture. During (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Interference lines appear in the picture after 1 -1.5 hrs, appears like picture search. Sound oscillation can be heard in the background.
- No sound during playback, sound is muted. During EE operation it is not possible to receive a station. Test signal is missing. (picture attached)
- Back tension arm does not return to correct position when unloading.
- During HF-recording and HF-playback there is occasionally no sound.
- Capstan runs in intervals either too fast to stops.

- During playback the appliance switches back and forth between AV picture and the HF modulator picture. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Volume varies. in REC.
- To switch modulator on or off.
- Horizontal lines. in PB. (with circuit diagram extract)
- No time and date indication on the display. Tape time indication does not change during playback or forward and rewind. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Deck moves up/down and in/out.
- Occasionally, after cassette has been introduced, pre-loading does not occur. Cassette has to be ejected again. If PLAY button is pressed, appliance switches off. It can be restarted only after disconnecting mains.
- Squeaks when lacing up or during unlacing. Does not eject and the lacing belt slips through.
- During own recording there is interference in the picture but playback is ok.
- Tape sticks during forward and rewind and occasionally during PB according to the type of cassette.
- No eject.

- Does not lace up correctly. PB only after pushing play button twice. Tape loops. Cassette is not always accepted
- Rattle during lace-up.
- Appliance lowers the cassette, initializes jerkily and sometimes forms tape loops. The tape is torn or not enough tension on the reel table. Appliance shows F7 or F8.

- During playback the FM carrier are missing. The picture appears black and white or shows sometimes black and white lines. Occasionally the sound is present.

- Dark display.

- Cassette is accepted and then ejected with tape loops. REW appears on display.

- Tape spillage at times.

- No picture in viewfinder in PB and test picture generator mode.

- Bad recording, REC button does not function.
- No sound in AV REC. Everything ok via HF.
- Appliance malfunctions ie. plays when the play button is pushed, no eject, the display shows always 4 and goes only to forward and rewind.
- Cassette is briefly accepted, laces up a little bit, then fast forwards briefly and cassette is ejected again.
- Defective driver, clatters, accepts no tape.
- No tape length indication, the counter is ok.
- No colour. in E-E.
- The cassette compartment does not lower and the compartment guide is bent.
- Changes in the customer instructions (see S.3-23).

- Brake does not function when winding. Tape loops at beginning after REW.
- Sound drones and picture has interference lines.

- The right reel table does not run, appliance forms tape loops and shows F6 on the display. (PHILIPS - 2SB5702 information)
- After inserting the cassette, display shows "LOCKED".
- PAL-AFC-tuning. (2SB5702 tips)
- Power supply no function. (2SB5702 tip from PHILIPS)
- Cassette is ejected and is immediately retracted. This way it gets stuck once in a while. PSU must be pulled in for turning off. (PHILIPS - 2SB5702 information)
- Service info: Modifications of the lacing motor and its holder.
- Output voltage +5V adjustment. (PHILIPS - 2SB5702 information)
- VCR 1 - VCR 2. Adjustment of VCR; adjustment of RC. The adjustment must be performed if the VCR works via front keys and it displays VCR 1 (or 2) via RC.
- Does not load tape. intermittently.

- No sound after recording, sound from previous recording is not erased.
- No tuning. Black screen.
- No REW. Goes into CUE instead of FF.
- During playback of prerecorded cassette occasionally the colour goes totally and the picture folds over in the top third.

- No brake (supply spool) at end of REW or FFRWD.
- Squeaking from the appliance and waves in the picture after some time.

- Tape winds round capstan shaft when cassette has lowered. Display shows F1. In service function A5 the compartment goes down, capstan shaft turns immediately and transport ring turns slowly when lacing up. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Lound noise from mechanism. When ejecting tape, lift loads again and ejects by itself several times.
- No power supply or LCD display on the front panel.
- Distorted audio and tracking lines.

- The top segments in the display light continuously. (picture attached)

- FFWD faulty.
- In CUE, REV and PB, ripple line jitter (slip-stick of vertical and horizontal lines).
- The appliance does not initialise when the cassette has lowered. The display shows F6 but during service function A5 the appliance can be operated.
