PS35153 / PROSCAN [TV]

The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers supplies the following faults for PS35153 / PROSCAN.

List of fault symptoms:
  • Changes channel when using DSS channel guide.
  • No video. When selecting PIP, small picture comes up, but still no large picture. Audio OK.
  • Shuts down with bright scenes.
  • Dark screen. Horizontal lines. Audio OK .
  • Reduced vertical scan.
  • Shuts down with increase in beam current.
  • No raster.
  • Intermittent picture with retrace line caused when changing channel.
  • Dead set. There was a Buzzing sound from the chopper regulator circuit.
  • Arcing lines in picture intermittently. Picture pulses vertically. Vertical intermittently collapses.
  • Low audio. intermittently. (PS35153 PROSCAN repair tip)
  • Video missing during normal operation, but the set had both large and small pictures when PIP was selected.
  • Ticking noise. in standby.
  • Pix in pix inop. The pix in pix was shown on the display but there was no box on the screen. Troubleshooting the pix-in-pix microprocessor (U8001) revealed all the data and clock lines were normal. The oscillator on pins 25 and 26 was not operating.
  • Dark picture. intermittently. Colour OK .
  • Dark picture.
  • Pincushion distortion.
  • Repeatedly shorted horizontal output transistor Q4401 and vertical pincushion transistor Q4802.
  • Dark screen. Horizontal lines.
  • Vertical roll. after warm-up.
  • Snow in picture. Loss of one band.
  • Washed out picture.
  • Pink or red colours bleed. Flesh tones off.
  • Audio level goes up and down when watching a program.
  • OSD smeared and streaked.
  • Incorrect audio balance.
  • No surrounding audio.
  • Picture bright and fuzzy. Picture goes in and out of focus. No accurate greyscale. Picture always slightly green.
  • Poor pincushion.
  • Picture washed-out. During blanking, faint retrace lines in video.
  • Beat pattern in picture on channels 23-25. After warm-up, picture OK.
  • Intermittently dead.
  • Pix in pix inop. The insert box for the small picture did not appear either. The OSD would show PIP when activated.
  • No brightness. Colour OK .
  • Distorted or no audio.
  • All adjustments go to low when channel changed.
  • Tuning inoperative. Video input operates OK.
  • No picture. Briefly flashes on sometimes.
  • Postage stamp look.
  • OSD malfunction. OSD shifted 6-8 in. to right of screen. Overall picture centered correctly.
  • Audio pop. Audio level not adjusted. Volume at normal level.
  • Negative picture. Colour missing. (PS35153 tips)
  • Dead on full line voltage. Lowering line voltage using variac produces small picture without colour.
  • PICTURE FLASHES ON/OFF, BOWED IN ON SIDES & TOP
  • SILVER PICTURE - POOR CONTRAST
  • Picture missing when going through U1401 video switch.
  • Excessive HV, more than 30KV.
  • No picture. intermittently.
  • Cycles on/off. intermittently.
  • When the power button is pressed, the unit Pulses on/off.
  • Static noise in audio in VHF.
  • Hiss in audio.
  • Screen dark with very little video content. (service info for PROSCAN -PS35153)
  • Set would try to come on, then R4713 overheated and the set would Shutdown.
  • Bright picture. at start-up. Shuts down.
  • Distorted and low audio via tuner. Line audio OK. (PS35153 PROSCAN repair tip)
  • Picture expanded. OSD graphics "03" shows "0". (PROSCAN - PS35153 information)
  • No picture. No vertical deflection.
  • DOUBLE PICTURE WITH SLIGHT TEARING
  • Black band across screen that moves from top to bottom. Poor convergence.
  • All customer controlled on-screen adjustments go to minimum when AUTOPROGRAM initiated.
  • Picture small and pulled in on all sides.
  • The red horizontal was out of Convergence. The red cannot be moved even with the static control.
  • Nuisance shutdown.
  • Dead. made a loud popping noise sound before it died
  • No CLOSED CAPTION using S-video input.
  • Horizontal frequency off. Excessive HV.
  • Intermittent video. Picture and colour black out once every day or two.
  • Pix compressed. Poor regulation. Regulated B+ in the run mode was 118V. There was no horizontal sync. In standby the B+ was 140V.
  • Audio was normal, but Video missing. The scan loss (IC7005) was missing B+. U7004 (the AUX regulator IC) had 7V B+ with no voltages present on any other pins. Q7051 had 22V on the emitter and 7V on the base.
  • No audio. after power failure.
  • Distorted audio (after warm-up). (PS35153 tips)
  • Excessive brightness. after start-up. Shuts down.
  • LOSES TIME WHEN SET IS OFF (PROSCAN - PS35153 information)
  • No video during normal operation, but has both large and small pictures with PIP selected.
  • Buzz in audio when switched off. No buzz in audio if speakers were turned off while set was on.
  • No colour in big pix. Colour missing on both pictures when in the pix-in-pix mode. Traced the problem to PIP module. Found Q8208 emitter and base reading 12V. Measured the resistance across R8224 and found it to be 30k ohms. (PROSCAN - PS35153 information)
  • Dim picture. Raster is out of focus.
  • Dead set. In regulator power supply, the run supplies would not come up by turning the on/off buffer (Q4304) on. Tracing back to the 12-volt run supply (Q4702) there was no base voltage. Found an open trace from the base of Q4702 to R4714.
  • No horizontal synchronisation. after a while.
  • HV comes on for 1 sec then goes to shutdown. Possibly hear or smell arcing.
  • No picture. Arcing from audio. (PROSCAN - PS35153 information)
  • No sync in big picture. In PIP, both big picture and insert picture have normal sync. Sync OK in CHANNEL GUIDE mode. Sync OK when AUX input is selected in normal picture mode.
  • Bright picture. after a few minutes. Retrace lines. after a few minutes.
  • Function key carries out incorrect functions. Remote OK.
  • No audio from internal speakers, OK on external ones.
  • Audio weak, Audio distorted. The slow start circuit was not providing a good +10VDC to U1402. The input signal level to this IC was good while the output level was almost zero. Pulling JW222 brought back proper DC bias on Q1409 and Q1400. Pulling C14
  • NECK OF THE CRT SHEARED OFF
  • Dead or extreme pincushion distortion.
  • Set intermittently would get two 6" jagged lines in lower right and left corners of screen and then clear up. The problem seemed heat related.
  • Loses colour intermittently, then no start-up.
  • No colour. Good B/W picture and good audio.
  • Two 6 in. jagged lines in lower right and left corners of screen. Intermittent.
  • HV comes up then shuts down.
  • Black screen. No picture.
  • Lines, white (int) throughout the pix
  • Pincushion distortion. when cold.
  • SHUTS DOWN WHEN POWER BUTTON PRESSED
  • Intermittent bulls-eye and rainbow effect.
  • Picture bright with retrace lines on all 3 CRT's. 200V line down to 15V.
  • Picture about 3/4 inch narrower at bottom of screen than at top.
  • No blue. intermittently.
  • Main picture and PIP have hourglass.
  • AUTODEMO comes on by itself.
  • No picture. In PIP, no big picture, and small picture is out of sync.
  • Blue picture.
  • HV comes up then immediately shutsdown. OK at 110V variac. (PROSCAN - PS35153 information)
  • Picture bright with retrace lines. Brightness varies with focus. Insufficient CRT focus - G2.
  • Vertical foldover at bottom of picture. Decreased deflection 1 in. from bottom of screen.
  • Dead. Comes on at lowered line voltage. Regulator B+>160V in standby.
  • No large picture during PIP mode.
  • Tuner remains on last channel selected and cannot be tuned to any other.
  • Picture dim. Raster out of focus. Dynamic focus controls have little effect on raster.
  • No PIP. No OSD. intermittently.
  • Poor vertical linearity.
  • No audio after surge on AC line. Picture distorted. Autoprograms OK.
  • Dead after 2 hr of use. After unplugging for 5 min, PB for a while, then fails.
  • No picture. OSD OK .
  • The set had a green vertical Convergence problem.
  • No channels on 2-6 or 14-17.
  • No picture in large picture mode.
  • OSD doesn't turn off.
  • No vertical deflection. intermittently.
  • Bright pix w/retrace. brightness varies w/focus. (crt focus-g2 short):
  • No low band tuning during autoprogram. All channels slow to lock.
  • Excessive horizontal size.
  • Raster bow in about three inches on the sides of the screen.
  • Shutdown using VCR in forward search mode only. TV stays on with VCR in playback and search reverse. High voltage increased 3kV during search forward.
  • Pix washed out and AGC type tearing when PIP was selected. The problem occurs in both the large and small picture.
  • Picture zoom, freeze, channel guide, and PIP out of horizontal frequency.
  • Vertical roll in tuner mode, but it is OK in video input mode.
  • Audio hum when turned off.
  • Intermittently shuts down when fully inserted into cabinet. OK on test jig.
  • At turn on - picture remains black for 4 sec then on and off.
  • Reduced raster size.
  • POOR CONVERGENCE & BOWED PIX EDGES
  • No or weak colour.
  • No raster (intermittently).
  • PIP COLOUR WAS PURPLE - BIG PIX NORMAL
  • Picture bowed upward in centre.
  • Q4802 repeatedly fails.
  • Flyback transformer goes S/C after a couple of hours of operation.
  • No big picture when using PIP. Small picture OK.
  • Shutdown. As soon as the high voltage comes up, the unit shuts down.
  • Lightning damage. No audio. Low level hum in speakers.
  • Colour goes out sometimes will not come back in. convergence problem
  • Picture distorted. Normal picture has no vertical or horizontal sync. Intermittent chroma. External video OK. In PIP mode, both large and small pictures OK. (service info for PROSCAN -PS35153)
  • Low brightness. after a while. No or poor synchronisation.
  • PIP inoperative. Unit will not call up the small picture box and has intermittent OSD.
  • PICTURE BRIGHT & GOES IN & OUT OF FOCUS
  • Snow and poor IF AGC.
  • Set would play for fifteen minutes and then start Vertical jitter. The jitter would increase as the set warmed up.
  • Syscon disfunctional (missing menu, osd for example)
  • Dead.
  • Light arcing. On-screen noise.
  • When using PIP, small picture rolls through big picture. Both big and small pictures showed normal horizontal and vertical sync.
  • The picture had a small amount of Vertical jitter. The problem showed up more when the unit was warm. (service info for PROSCAN -PS35153)
  • Noise and lines in picture with PIP off until warm.
  • Arcing. Odor comes from set. (PS35153 tips)
  • Poor B+ regulation. When off, voltages on CR4116 and CR4118 OK; when on, voltages low.
  • Cycles on/off.
  • Low audio. Buzz in audio. on the right.
  • Intermittent audio.
  • Red and blue horizontal linearity/convergence incorrect.
  • Distorted picture. (PS35153 tips)
  • Shuts down. after start-up.
  • Shutdown. Dead. At plug in, pulses 4-5 times, then goes dead. Unplug and wait until U4101 pin 16 drains off, then plug it back in and symptom repeats.
  • Hum in audio. Dead. PSU pulsates.
  • The Pix in pix colour was purple. The big picture was normal.
  • Vertical pulled down about 1/4 from top. Top of screen flags horizontally. Picture seems wide. Adjusting width control has little or no effect.
  • No horizontal synchronisation.
  • No synchronisation. intermittently.
  • Video missing but audio was normal. Video was present on pin 5 and 3 of the d-pip board connector J8002, but not on pin 1. Looking at U8001 pin 8, there was no video. Q8001 was not soldered in.
  • Intermittent bull's-eye pattern. Arcing and band of distortion going through picture.
  • Picture too small. intermittently.
  • No horizontal deflection.
  • White line from top left of picture to centre of picture.
  • Vertical linearity incorrect. The bottom of the raster was pulled up and the top was slightly folded over.
  • Intermittent streaks in picture, or intermittently dark picture.
  • Yellow spots in picture.
  • No Closed caption. From the set up menu the desired closed caption could be selected. However, there was no text displayed on the screen.
  • The set would turn on and run all day. When turned off, the Power supply would Shutdown regardless of the amount of time the set had been on.
  • Vertical bars. on the left.
  • Bright picture. Intermittently, raster becomes very bright with retrace lines and no picture.
  • Video distortion. Double picture with slight tearing.
  • No colour. in PIP.
  • Yellow spots appeared in the picture.
  • No picture. In SCAN LOSS mode.
  • Vertical bow with foldover. (PS35153 tip from PROSCAN)
  • Intermittently goes static and fades low.
  • Negative picture when cold. Picture negative and video signals low for first 5 min of operation. As set warms up, video signal coming out of U1401 slowly increases in amplitude until picture normal.
  • Expanded stereo inoperative.
  • Shutdown intermittent. Wait for 15 minutes and set could again be powered on. Noted that the horizontal deflection would collapse before the unit went completely dead. (service info for PROSCAN -PS35153)
  • Circuit breaker pops instantly.
  • Horizontal bars or line in picture. Intermittent.
  • Horizontal lines in picture. Purity problems.
  • No start-up. Pulsing from speakers.
  • Diagonal beat pattern only on channel 7.
  • Red screen. Retrace lines. Picture washed out. Low contrast. Poor colour.
  • Vert collapse. When vertical kill transistor was defeated, the set had vertical deflection but purity was very bad.
  • Distorted video. Poor quality luma. Picture lacks depth of field and looks like painting.
  • Negative picture. Briefly flickers on.
  • No brightness. intermittently. Colour OK .
  • Audio distorted in SRS mode only.
  • No audio. via tuner.
  • Pincushion distortion. on sides. Colour OK .
  • Snow in picture. No channels.
  • Picture compressed. Poor regulation. No HV.
  • One third vertical deflection.
  • Horizontal lines. Vertical lines.
  • No OSD.
  • Intermittent sync or lines on screen.
  • Vertical bow at top. Foldover and slight distortion at top right. (PS35153 PROSCAN repair tip)
  • Bright picture. Retrace lines.
  • Vertical bars on left side of screen. Diagonal line from upper right corner down to lower left corner. Half moon effect. (PROSCAN - PS35153 information)
  • Cycles on/off. Power LED lit .
  • No picture (intermittently).
  • Small picture. Initially there was a black line on the right side of the picture.
  • At minimum volume level or MUTE, audio level is low but still excessivley high compared to normal operation. Audio doesn't adjust.
  • Shutdown (dead) cold start, starts at reduced AC
  • Picture gets dimmer until it brightness can't be turned up.
  • Dark picture. when cold.
  • Shuts down after warm-up. Blank blocks instead of OSD. Erratic or inoprative control panel.
  • No tuning.
  • No audio or low level hum in speakers.
  • Audio squeal with ignition-type noise in picture. (PS35153 tips)
  • Horizontal, linearity, and convergence incorrect.
  • Snowy pix (int) on 2-6, 14-17
  • Low Audio level with the balance control centered. Turning the balance to one side or the other produced good volume from either speaker.
  • Noisy chopper and erratic waveforms.
  • No auto programming.
  • Dead. No turn-on if POWER pressed within 30 sec of plugging set in.
  • No or intermittent picture. PIP OK .
  • Retrace lines. at top.
  • Bright red raster during channel change. When OSD prompted, red outline around OSD characters.
  • Snivets on the screen accompanied by soft arcing noise. Condition varied when adjusting the brightness control. At one extreme range of the control the condition would go away.
  • Green picture. No picture (intermittently).
  • Horizontal and vertical lines in picture.
  • 4 or 5 vertical lines on the left side of the screen. (PROSCAN - PS35153 information)
  • Brightness varies. Dim picture.
  • Starts up three times then switches off.
  • Reduced vertical deflection. via tuner.
  • White line with faint red line immediately above it, across screen. Smell.
  • Volume uncontrollable. OSD OK . (PROSCAN - PS35153 information)
  • Reduced remote range. Intermittent remote functions. Remote has increased sensitivity on buttons. Occasionally gives double strike on button pressed at close range.
  • No colour in both TV and AUX.
  • No green convergence. (PS35153 tips)
  • Colour fades in and out. Picture waves.
  • Intermittent dark spots on picture.
  • Pincushion distortion. at top and bottom. Convergence off.
  • No audio. Tuning OK .
  • No RC functions.
  • Dead. Power LED blinks 3 times.
  • No red, tint, or wrong colour.
  • Noisy picture or lines in picture.
  • No audio. No video. Plays for 30 sec, then no picture or audio.
  • Blank raster. Audio and HV OK .
  • Picture bowed in on sides. Hourglass.
  • Video distorted. Sync distorted on normal picture. Good video on both selected video and IF video inputs.
  • When switching to V1, TV tuner audio stays on.
  • Vertical jitter.
  • Dead set. Pin 16 of U4101 reading 8.2V. Pin 15 reading of U4101 was 10.4V. (service info for PROSCAN -PS35153)
  • The set would turn on and off, but the Power light would stay on.
  • Buzzing from PSU. in standby.
  • Black screen. after a while.
  • No audio. on the left.
  • BAND OF LINES ACROSS RASTER
  • Raster pulls in on sides and top.
  • Flashing picture. intermittently.
  • No picture. No audio. intermittently.
  • Colour bleeds pink or red. Flesh tones off.
  • ROLLING SMALL PICTURE WHEN USING PIX-IN-PIX
  • Picture shifted vertically. at top. Vertical foldover at top.
  • Poor convergence (after warm-up).
  • Noise in audio. intermittently.
  • No picture. Selecting AUX1 and applying external signal from VCR doesn't produce picture.
  • No picture. Audio OK .
  • IN PIX-IN-PIX SMALL PIX WAS SOLID GREEN W/NO VIDEO
  • Excessive brightness.
  • Q4101 BLOWS AT TURN ON.
  • No regulation in standby.
  • Reduced vertical size. at top.
  • Noise in picture.
  • Faint vertical line in picture.
  • All PIP functions operating except for the Zoom function.
  • Set struck by lightning - Dead set. After replacing the tuner selector CBA, sync CBA, power supply and power sub, antenna switch, IC601, DL302, and DL303, had video missing.
  • Intermittent shutdown, usually with high humidity.
  • Tuning inop. The set will not tune channel 2.
  • Ticking noise. at switch-off.
  • Piecrusting in picture. at high volume. (PROSCAN - PS35153 information)
  • Dead set with no standby voltage. Monitoring pin 8 of U4101 while plugging in the set showed that the set was in overcurrent shutdown. Checked the secondary of the transformer for shorts and found none. Found a shorted resistor (R4109) off of the emitter
  • Repeated chopper failure.
  • Bright picture. Washed out picture.
  • Intermittent shutdown. Shutdown doesn't seem to occur in any set pattern. Operates for 2 wk on continuous PB without failure.
  • Shuts down. after warm-up.
  • Chopper output Q4101 overheats then shorts out.
  • Big Pix missing and Pix in pix inop.
  • OSD missing. Pix missing when in tuner mode. The set Pulses on/off. U3101 pins 25 and 26 (OSD PLL) were at 0 volts. U3101 pins 23 and 24 (horz/vert sync), pin 23 had a 1.5Vp-p signal and pin 24 had a 2Vp-p signal. When the set was off channel, it woul
  • Raster bright red during channel change. When OSD is prompted, there would be a red outline around the OSD characters (OSD w/red outline).
  • Unit had intermittent vertical jitter with a distortion on the upper left and lower right corners of the pix. This looked something like a keystone effect.
  • No picture for a few mins then picture flickers.
  • Constant horizontal drift pattern in the background. No synchronisation lock in PIP mode.
  • To activate video input.
  • Pix bright with Retrace lines. The 200V supply was low. The 200V was at 60V with kine socket connected and dropped to 9V when the kine socket was disconnected. The pulse from pin 10 of flyback was OK but was not getting through an open capacitor (C471
  • Pix green. Q5001 collector measured 275 volts. This transistor is supplied by the 200-volt supply which checked OK.
  • No audio. No picture.
  • Low audio.
  • Lines in picture. after a few minutes. (PS35153 tips)
  • Comes on for a short time.
  • Reduced vertical and horizontal size.
  • Brightness excessive w/retrace. screen controls no effect.
  • Foam tape on top and sides of screen is separating and moving behind screen.
  • No HV. Blows Q4801.
  • No colour on channel 3. Colour OK on channel 7.
  • No PIP. Clock OK .
  • Dead. No standby voltage.
  • Pulses 3 times then shuts down.
  • Lch audio drops when volume is raised above mid-level. Rch continues to increase as volume is raised. As volume is increased further, Lch audio level returns to that of Rch.
  • Raster bright red.
  • Vertical and horizontal sync missing. Colour intermittent. Picture OK when PIP used.
  • Vertical bow with foldover at top. Triangular distortion in the upper right corner.
  • Brightness difference across screen during dark scenes. V-shaped area. Inside V is slightly brighter than outside area.
  • Vertical jitter. intermittently. Vertical foldover.
  • No vertical synchronisation. when changing channels.
  • Raster pulled in on all 4 sides.
  • Video dim. Unstable brightness. Looks like beam limiter active but unstable.
  • Cannot adjust red convergence.
  • Negative picture. Blue tint. With PIP on, video OK. Using V1 input, video OK.
  • Dark picture. after warm-up.
  • PSU pulsates.
  • Erratic function control from FP.
  • Tuning inoperative. Picks up FM radio audio on top of TV audio.
  • High pitched squeel in power supply, slight tear in pix...
  • Minor piecrusting at high volume.
  • Bright red raster or OSD has a red outline.
  • Vertical roll.
  • No start-up. intermittently.
  • Black streaks in picture in some low and high frequency channels.
  • Shuts down. Relay clicks.
  • Bright screen with retrace lines. Shuts down with a vertical line in centre and comes back on.
  • Turns on and off by itself, power switch has no effect.
  • Set had low B+ of 118 volts. Raster was pulled in all 4 sides (Raster reduced). (PROSCAN - PS35153 information)
  • Audio missing. The problem was traced to the Digital Audio Tone/Volume/Balance circuit. Checking the DC and waveforms on U1127 (Amp IC) revealed the VCC on pin 4 was only 0.4VDC. The IC had shorted (pin 4 to pin 11). Pin 11 is the ground point on this
  • Shuts down when picture has bright scene content. Also shuts down when advancing any screen bias control.
  • Excessive horizontal size. Pincushion distortion. on sides.
  • Audio hiss and pop. Non-linear volume control.
  • Reduced vertical deflection.
  • Hi voltage missing. Removing the red wire from the High voltage to the focus block allowed the high voltage to return.
  • Pix missing on all channels. Audio rushing on low VHF channels, but good audio on the high VHF channels.
  • Poor horizontal or poor convergence.
  • Black screen with parental control displayed. Controls inoperative.
  • No picture. No audio. OSD blocks instead of characters.
  • Doesn't store channels during AUTOPROGRAM.
  • RETRACE LINES WITH PICTURE BRIGHT BLUE
  • Channel display. The set displays channel 00 when turned on. If a valid channel is selected, it will be tuned properly. Autoprogram stores all valid channels. Attempting to enter channel 00 results in the tuning system reverting to the last valid channel
  • Muted audio.
  • Dead or shuts down after lightning damage. Arcing from PCB.
  • OSD shifted. on the right.
  • Picture stretched at top.
  • Intermittently squeals at turn-off. Approximately 1 in 50 times, squealing noise from horizontal deflection circuit at turn off.
  • No PIP when PIP window moved to lower left corner.
  • Colour goes out sometimes will not come back in (service info for PROSCAN -PS35153)
  • No HV. (PS35153 PROSCAN repair tip)
  • Telematic test jig info.
  • OSD malfunction. The STEREO display is constantly on.
  • DARK PICTURE WITH WHITE DASHES THROUGH IT
  • Bright lines in picture.
  • No control of AUDIO DOWN.
  • Picture distorted. Distortion more evident on higher channels. Looks like small tornadoes that change location depending on what channel selected. With no antenna, distortion rolls through raster.
  • Vertical fault.
  • Picture bowed on the sides. Poor pincushion.
  • The chassis was Pulsing and made a chirping sound.
  • Herringbone interference in large picture. No colour in small picture when in PIP.
  • Vertical line down middle. No vertical sweep.
  • P/S shuts down when turned off.
  • Screen dark intermittently in middle, but light on sides.
  • Shuts down when turned on with antenna connected.
  • No picture. No audio. OSD shifts left. Foldover.
  • Dark screen. Poor convergence poor. OSD shifted. No audio.
  • Can't change brightness, contrast, tint, or colour, but OSD indicates change.
  • No video in TV mode. AUX video OK.
  • R4401 overheats in yoke circuit.
  • Audio from speakers distorted, but not select-out jack.

  • Dark screen. Poor picture.
  • No picture. Setup levels go to zero.
  • Pulses on and off continuously. (PS35153 PROSCAN repair tip)
  • Distorted audio. at low volume.

  • After warm-up, convergence becomes poor. Crosshatch pattern for each colour changes position at regular intervals. Lines remain straight.
  • No video, both large and small in PIP.
  • On some low, mid, and high band channels, thin black streaks appear across picture with white dots streaking across screen, similar to power line interference.
  • Picture darkens. CRT fils go out.
  • Neck of CRT sheared off. Replaced the CRT but after about one minute of operation, the new tube shorted. No vertical deflection. It appears that this caused the beam to deflect into the elements of the CRT causing them to heat up.
  • The red vertical Convergence was off. The controls had no effect.

  • Dead. IHVT failure. IHVT shorts instantly at turn-on. When CR4402 is replaced, there is a pincushion bow on all 4 sides of picture. Both CR4402 and IHVT short again at turn-on.

  • No autoprogram. Locking into stations takes a long time.

  • Shuts down when turned on if the antenna is connected. Disconnecting the antenna allows the set to turn on. After reconnecting the antenna, picture is present until the channel switch-over is performed. The set would then shut down. OSD also missing.
  • In PIP mode, small picture tint shifted toward blue.
  • Memory error. Incorrect numeric informations on screen other than inputted from RC.
  • Intermittent picture. Picture drops out or convergence distorts. Convergence shifts prior to losing picture.

  • Pix small. The regulated B+ was at 115VDC. The PWM pulse was missing from pin 2 of U4101. Resistor (R4143) was open.

  • No picture. All controls go to 0. Doesn't hold setups.
  • Expanded Stereo inop. The speakers cannot be turned off when in the expanded stereo mode.

  • Centre of picture converges. Outward edges, both horizontal and vertical, bowed and out of convergence. About 1/2 of convergence controls don't work.
  • Video missing, Dark screen, audio OK. Checking in the scan loss had 4.9VDC. No problem found in the vertical circuit. Checking the scan loss power supply, the waveforms on the regulator output (Q7037) were pulsing from about 45V p-p to 240V p-p.
  • No picture. All picture controls would go to zero during picture reset or when changing channels. If re-adjusting picture settings picture appears but when changing channels picture goes black again.
  • Pix bowed when first turned on

  • Vertical streaks in picture.
  • No big picture. PIP inoperative.

  • Standby pwr cycles on and off.

  • Faint distorted audio after power surge.
