T24 / RANK [TV]

The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers supplies the following faults for T24 / RANK.

List of fault symptoms:
  • Moire-interference. (T24 RANK repair tip)

  • Insufficient height, about an inch at top of picture.
  • Picture regularly blacks out, sound and display o.k. Cuts out more often in cold condition, line transformer then starts generating.
  • Transistor set.

  • No start-up. Standby LED lit .
  • 5 volt supply varies
  • Only one channel can be received.
  • Adjusting the trapezium correction.
  • No picture. Squealing from PSU. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Colour spot.
  • The top half of the picture has no contents but the bottom half is correct. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Set dead with all the outputs from the power supply at a low level.
  • Picture has intermittently shifted to the right by 5cm after program switchover.
  • Does not start. LED is lit. LED goes out when switched on via RC.
  • Horizontal waves which decrease as the applinace heats up.

  • No direct selection of L-Secam channels.
  • Image rolls vertically when cold. Composite colour video signal (CCVS) OK. No sound. (picture attached)
  • Cycles on/off.
  • No picture. No sound. PSU oscillates. Standby LED lights. LED switches off after start-up, then switches on again.
  • NTSC-video standard could not be processed with 4.43MHz colour carriers and 5.5MHz sound carriers. This relates to appliances (chassis C90B), which were supplied up to 02.88.
  • Noises.

  • Horizontal amplitude adjustment in SERVICE mode is not possible.
  • Adjusting the switchover point.

  • Picture is negative intermittently and rolls. No sound.

  • Dark display. Band change and TXT function ok.
  • Intermittent picture drop outs, increase until picture is only bright (only white). Switches off (BCL) or becomes normal again.
  • Black screen. Flyback lines.
  • Solarized picture or white screen with flyback line intermittently.
  • The picture is weak, too dark, blurred and only bright for a short time. (picture attached)
  • PSU test.
  • No audio. via SCART. No picture. via SCART.
  • VT service mode.

  • Switch-off crackle can be heard in the headphone.
  • Channel 35 does not synchronise correctly.
  • Adjusting the Y delay.
  • Horizontal stripes in picture and approx 10kHz whistle from loudspeaker and chassis.
  • Interference of the matrix (audible scrambling in the earphones).

  • Adjusting the operating voltage.
  • The tuner has change over problems.
  • Horizontal position adjustment - TXT SERVICE mode.
  • Adjustment instructions.
  • Starts up after approx 15 secs.
  • Assembling pins (Scart plug/sockets).
  • Cannot be switched in standby. Dark screen and display.
  • Picture jumps intermittently. Cramped at bottom.
  • 2 horizontal bars in picture, about 3" thick each.
  • Tripping.

  • Hums when turned on. Oscillates only later (about 1/2 min).
  • Standby lamp flickers.
  • Adjusting the pilot tone filter.

  • Colour fault.

  • PSU starts up too late, rattle in the loudspeakers. Ok after 1-2 min.
  • SECAM is distorted. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Does not switch to standby.
  • Instructions as required in SERVICE mode, on appliances with a flat control unit.
  • Appliance cannot be switched into standby. Screen and display are dark. Despite this the appliance is working.

  • NTSC-Video standard.

  • Adjusting the grey value.
  • Abnormal sound when started up from standby and then goes back to standby.
  • Picture becomes grey after operating for some time, sound has then disappeared. Picture and sound only occur again by switching off and on again with the mains switch.

  • Poor picture. One colour missing or excessive.
  • Wide, green stripe on the left from the top to the bottom of the picture.
  • Dead.

  • Yellow portions of the picture in SECAM.
  • Interference on picture and vertical bands on all the channels.

  • Loudspeaker cracking at start-up.

  • Picture shifted to the left and right at switch on.

  • Mains switch starts up line output stage briefly. Only whistling from speakers after that. Display OK.
  • NTSC video PB.
  • The final line stage does not oscillate. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Standby LED lights up. Crackling is audible if switched on with RC.
  • Synchronisation fault.
  • LOPT failure. (picture attached)
  • Low chirping when starting with the RC. (picture attached)

  • Image "swimming", vertical lines ring, image bounces. If operation via scart everything OK. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Double muting. After changing programme and especially when changing standards, a second picture and sound muting may appear for a short time.
  • TV standards.
  • Adjusting the horizontal amplitude, -position and -blanking.
  • Switches continuously to dual channel and stereo.
  • Transistor T658, in power supply, is defective.
  • E/W fault. after warm-up.

  • Hum at switch on. Starts up late, after approx 1/2 min.
  • Low contrast.
  • Cannot be turned off. If mains switch pressed for a longer period, appliance starts. cannot be turned on and off via RC. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Appliance remains on standby. Standby dot goes OFF and then ON. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Screen does not become brighter. Colour detectable in background only.
  • Pincushion distortion. E/W fault.

  • Ondulating lines.
  • Table-Option-Byte.
  • Picture disappears, leaving a dark screen. Sound normal.
  • Picture scrolling down slowly from the top to the bottom of the screen.
  • Adjusting the cut-off and the black value.
  • After changing the vertical IC TDA8175 the picture centre goes bright horizontally.

  • No picture. No sound. Display on 01.
  • Dead, display shows 88
  • StandBy LED lights up. Appliance does not start. (T24 tips)
  • Video operation through the TV is not possible.

  • The horizontal deflection transistor S2000 blows after testing for a few days.

  • U27 alteration.
  • Adjusting the E/W amplitude.
