List of fault symptoms:
  • Power supply defective.
  • When switching on BU508A and RP11 fail after 2 secs. (service info for SABA -42C710)
  • No brightness. Three RGB colour bands on left and right of the screen.

  • Picture appears slowly.
  • Excessive green.
  • Horizontal deflection is missing. Protective circuit disconnects. Standby point flashes. (service info for SABA -42C710)
  • The picture blows up and the bottom of the screen is bright.
  • The display is incorrect and PE appears.
  • Adjusting Us= 108V.
  • Black screen. Display is lit. Intermittent sound. Fault occurs both via aerial and SCART.
  • When appliance is switched on mains BU fails immediately.
  • Systematic failure of TL54. At switch on TEA2026 has been changed.
  • The appliance blows up on a very light background.
  • After a few days the TV fails. RP11, TP32 and TP38 are defective. The 925TX1283 unit has been replaced: TP32, TP38, CV16, DP33, DP41, DL62, DL64, QL11, CP31, DP32, DP38.
  • RP02 burns at switch on and destroys TP32 S2000A1. (SABA - 42C710 information)
  • Displays PR and does not start
  • PSU fails immediately after switch on.
  • Station tuning disappears.
  • Replacement kit of thyristor ESM740/G1/G2. (42C710 tips)
  • PAL run time decoder adjustment - PAL decoder.
  • Starts to pulsates. Sound, picture and display present.
  • Line output stage doesn't start up.
  • Stations appear and disappear. Horizontal lines in picture.
  • No reception on band I, or only picture flickering.
  • Vertical collapse (intermittently).
  • Display ok, 90V, 13V and 22V are ok. Output 10 of TEA2026 to the line driver and the wave peaks are not in the correct frequency. IC and quartz have been changed.
  • The picture is blurred (spot at the bottom of the screen).
  • No picture content, rainbow colours at upper edge. U4 (17,5V) is too high, voltage at thyristor anode too high (approx 30V). At pin 4 of IC03 (TEA2026C) voltage is too high, instead of (2,8V approx. 7V).
  • Adjusting the white setting. (42C710 tip from SABA)
  • The fuse blows because RP02 heats up.
  • RP51 (0R22) blows intermittently.
  • No switch on. Standby power supply ok. Standby indicator lights up.
  • Image compressed horizontally. Insufficient width approx 1cm on left and right of screen.
  • U1 is instead of 84-90V only approx. 60V. Current consumption is over 100W.
  • DP51 s/c after operating for half an hour.
  • No display. Appliance starts. (42C710 tip from SABA)
  • Line oscillating or tearing.
  • Unstable lines and there is an interference line at the base of TP32.
  • Secondary protective circuits TV01 and TV02 disconnect intermittently.
  • PSU fails after start-up.

  • Dark picture.
  • 300V on the collector of TP32. Oscillates at its base but no voltage on the secondary.
  • Faint blue picture with no picture content and flyback lines. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Secondary protective circuit TV01 and TV02 disconnects intermittently.
  • No display. TV functions well. Channel change over ok.
  • Switched-mode power supply (SMPS) does not start up. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Poor vertical synchronisation. (42C710 tip from SABA)
  • Picture is dark or partially ther.
  • Transistor BU508 fails repeatedly.
  • Contrast and colour are excessive at preset condition.
  • Snow in picture. in UHF.
  • Dead.
  • The channels unkey after a while.
  • Power supply kit has been changed, has been working for 2 days and TP32 s/c, RP11 o/c, TL54 s/c, DL66 s/c, etc. Everything has been replaced, then no U1, U2, U3, U7, power supply transformer OK.
  • TL19 fails in line ouptut stage.
  • Picture is dark. When Ug2 is completely there, a bit of the picture is present.
  • Low hum of vertical lines. (picture attached)
  • RP11 blows.
  • High contrast.
  • Sound is always at max even if appliance displays volume with 00.
  • U Varicap = 20V and will not change.
  • Low audio.
  • The colour appears after a few minutes. (SABA - 42C710 information)
  • No picture, no sound - PSU is switched off.
  • Is it possible to fit a TEA 2026C in place of a TEA 2026T ?
  • Power supply fault. TP37 and TP32 have a short circuit and occasionally TP38.
  • S2000 is s/c. Replaced with the original repair set, it still fails. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Sound purrs when tuning, picture is correct. Sound is possibly correct but picture disappears.
  • The picture is delayed by a few minutes.
  • No picture. No sound. Programs can also be switched over.
  • Picture predominantly red in SECAM. Ok in PAL via scart.
  • No erasing possible.
  • No picture. Flyback lines. at top. Audio OK .
  • No picture on channel 99. (42C710 SABA repair tip)
  • Appliance goes into PAL. Occasionally no display.
  • The blue circuit is pale.

  • Power supply, fuses, BUs, etc, blow each time appliance is switched off by ON/OFF switch.
  • General information.
  • No start up. PSU whistles even when secondary side disconnected. (42C710 SABA repair tip)
  • Tripping.
  • Switches off intermittently or does not switch on at all.
  • No vertical deflection.
  • TP32 heats up.
  • No vertical deflection. intermittently. No audio. intermittently.
  • No start up or reset.
  • No function display. CTV functions via the front panel and the RCU.
  • The power supply does not function with load.
  • Horizontal stripe (intermittently).
  • No horizontal deflection. intermittently.
  • TL54/TP32 are destroyed.
  • Muted audio.

  • Too much contrast, cannot be adjusted to less. (picture attached)
  • No image content, only HF noise. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Standby indicator flashes.
  • Channels below 30 cannot be received (chassis ICC4).
  • Power supply BU S2000 (BU508AT, BU508AF) S/C.
  • No channel search.
  • RP61 burns out.
  • Excessive brightness.
  • TP32 fails at switch on. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • The power supply is destroyed.
  • Poor vertical synchronisation. Picture shifted vertically. at top. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Power supply fuse blows. When it has been replaced, TV functions again for several days.
  • Start up ok. Picture and sound ok. After 15 minutes or more than one hour no picture but son ok. Horizontal white line.
  • Vertical line. in the centre.
  • Reluctant to start then produces a picture with reduced width.
  • Horizontal centre adjustment.
  • No 90V, RP51 burns. BU807, BU508.
  • R82 (10R) on the tube base board fails.
  • No search possible. TV switches off without the 10th, 20th and 30th channel.
  • Poor display.
  • Vertical deflection has collapsed to a bright line in the middle of the screen.
  • The power supply is correct without a load (U1 is up). There is a complete stop in the load.
  • Top part of the picture is too wide and bottom part is too narrow
  • No picture. Fusible resistor RP47 (0R22) in U2 13V-rail blows repeatedly.
  • After changing the battery, how do you adjust the channels without remote control IR?
  • Screen blank. Dark picture.
  • Poor contacts.

  • No picture, no sound and programme display does not light up.
  • No start-up from standby with RC.
  • Setting the vertical amplitude.
  • Does not switch on. No standby.
  • Intermittent loss of sync, a blank raster, no sound, switching to standby and the LED channel display going off.
  • Switches to protection mode.
  • Picture too small. at start-up.
  • Slow start-up.

  • Interference lines in the top part of the screen.
  • Adjustment of 5.5MHz min. or 4.43MHz min.
  • Does not start up when cold. Audio , display OK.
  • The appliance takes 2-3 minutes to start up.

  • Cannot be switched on or switched to standby. Standby indicator does not light up.
  • TP32 (BU508) becomes defective after appliance turned ON/OFF several times. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Crackling in sound and picture in UHF and VHF. No sound in scart.
  • Only switches on occasionally, but without picture and sound. Occasionally very high switch on current consumption.
  • Lacks horizontal amplitude. Regulation does not function.
  • No vertical synchronisation.
  • No horizontal or vertical deflection.
  • FBT ok at start up but dark screen except for 3 coloured lines in top third of screen. Sound and display of channels ok.
  • Power supply stops occasionally, approx after 1/2 hour (very irregular).
  • Screen blank, only RF-noise. No 0,5-30V tuning voltage at RT11. The three band switch transistors are conductive. Error may also occur only sometimes.
  • Volume uncontrollable.
  • TL54 (BU807) becomes very hot after a few mins and blows. Normal picture.
  • Vertical bar.
  • Adjusting the screen grid voltage (grey setting).
  • No functions. Standby LED is not visible.
  • Vertical line.

  • Power supply fails at less than 100V.
  • Horizontal collapse.
  • Distorted picture. Strong streaking.
  • Black band on one part of the screen and interference.

  • Intermittent loss of synchronization.
  • Fuse blows constantly.
  • In normal charge, TP32 and TP38 switch off. The appliance functions without a charge.
  • On channels from 21 to 27 picture is ok, from 32 to 35 lines on picture and from 41 to 47 no picture.
  • Does not come on from standby, red standby light comes on. TV01 and TV02 in the protective circuit respond.
  • No colour. No shutdown with RC.
  • Only switches on after 70 secs. After start up everything is ok.
  • No transmission in UHF (12V on pin 10 of the tuner connector).
  • No TXT.
  • Dark picture. after a few minutes.
  • No start-up. Display OK .
  • Normal in black and white. In chroma, red of picture is green, blue is red and green is blue.
  • The PSU fails instantly. When this is replaced by the repair kit the same problem arises.
  • PSU does not start up with a mains voltage more than 200V, ok with a voltage less than or equal to 200V.
  • Tuning voltage drifts.

  • Unstable luminance when the appliance is warm.
  • Picture is bright and white with flyback lines. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • The power supply does not start up. All transistors have been changed.
  • Very snowy picture in UHF. Apparently the fault is at the level of the tuner UHF 4200. (service info for SABA -42C710)
  • The appliance crackles and the picture framing is incorrect.
  • No brightness on picture. Chroma present with vertical instability and no sound.
  • Purity spot and scanning are incorrect.
  • Rainbow effect in the centre.
  • Phase comparator fault on TV. Ok on secondary.

  • Appliance does not function with the mains switch then starts up again with another button.
  • Fails frequently when operating.
  • No colour (intermittently). Line tearing. (service info for SABA -42C710)

  • Both vertical and horizontal synchronization instability.
  • The 108V voltage varies (U-system).
  • TP32 and TP38 have a short circuit.
  • TL19 fails in line output stage.
  • DP51 heats up.
  • Poor reception. in VHF.

  • Snow, no voltage on Varicap.
  • No picture. Check the signal on pin 10 of IT20.
  • Volume varies.
  • When warm flickers between picture and TXT. Characters keep popping up on screen
  • The appliance goes to safety mode and mute.
  • Vertical IC blows repeatedly after a few days.
  • E/W fault.

  • Picture spraying on band I (heat dependent at DP51). (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Dark screen.
  • RP02 and power supply BU blow.
  • Vertical blue bar on centre of screen. No picture.
  • The sound and picture hum.
  • No picture in UHF, voltage for band change and tuning is OK.
  • Vertical foldover at bottom.
  • When cold, no sound and no line amplitude then finally starts up.
  • TP29 fails after switch on.
  • Blank screen.
  • RP23 and transistor (BU508A) have blown.
  • After switching on the mains progamme indication in the display but no picture and no sound. (picture attached)
  • No start function via RC. With mains switch appliance switches into standby. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • IR receiver does not function.
  • Fuse blows at random, even at switch off.
  • No speacial channels. Appliance works only up to channel 69. Display for brightness shows L (= English mode) instead of B.
  • TEA 2026C is defective.
  • Reduced vertical size. (SABA - 42C710 information)
  • Noisy sound or no sound at all.

  • Fuse blows as soon as degaussing is connected.
  • Voltages from FBT gradually decrease then line BU S2000 blows after operating for 15 mins.
  • No videotext mode.
  • Focus adjustment.
  • Poor vertical and horizontal amplitude with slight waving at sides, when cold. Everything returns to normal within 5 mins.
  • Excessive vertical size.
  • Programmes memory is lost once a month.

  • No start-up. No display.
  • Starts up after 3 mins.
  • No reception. via tuner. (42C710 SABA repair tip)
  • The line framing is incorrect.
  • Slight hum of vertical bars. (SABA - 42C710 information)
  • TP32 in the PSU is s/c.
  • No 300V at collector of TP32. If collector is disconnected 300V appear.
  • Dark screen, 5 or 6 coloured lines at the top of the screen. Picture returns if appliance is hit.
  • The appliance crackles during low Gamme UHF.
  • Standby LED flashes.
  • Switches to standby after 6 or 7 minutes with or without aerial signal.
  • No picture or sound. At switch on display indicates a channel but no control is possible.
  • After switch on, vertical centering is shifted intermittently upwards approx. 2 cm; it goes to normal position after approx. 10 minutes.
  • Loud audio.
  • No image, red raster and flyback lines visible. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Switches to protection mode. intermittently.
  • Deprogrammes approx every 4 to 5 months.

  • No video or scanning. Channels are displayed.

  • Focus pot is defective.
  • Standby light flashes, fuse blows. RP11 and TP32, BU508 fails.

  • No colour.Flag-effect.
  • No start up. can be switched on after some time in standby. Sound OK.

  • TP29 fails after start-up.
  • Ghosting effect.

  • RL41 O/C due to dry joints below connector BD01.

  • Line BU (BU508) becomes hot and blows. At base of BU there are double pulses.
  • Sound to zero level. When volume is increased, sound goes back to zero level. Random channel switch-over.

  • At switch on when cold picture is reduced in height and width of the screen. After heating up for some time scanning becomes normal. Fault is no longer visible. You must wait until TV has cooled down sufficiently.

  • Coloured flyback lines and poor picture.
  • No picture. after a few minutes. Audio OK .
  • Channel storage is erased.
  • Picture flickers and stripes in the picture. (service info for SABA -42C710)
  • Horizontal deflection and line oscillator failed. (picture attached)
  • At start up 90V makes 12V. After 2 mins picture and sound present but 90V reaches a maximum at 85V.
  • Vertical picture position shifts intermittently upwards approx 2 cm after switch on. It is OK after approx 10 mins.
  • There are 1300V present instead of 900V peak to peak on the collector of the TL37 (BU508ATB). This breaks after some time.
  • Picture width fault. (SABA - 42C710 information)
  • Poor line synchronisation. Picture is shifted up. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • No functions. (picture attached)
  • Picture is pulled at the top. Poor line sync. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • No picture. Vertical coloured lines. Raster problem. (SABA - 42C710 information)
  • No adjustment.
  • Vertical lines on edge in EE-mode and via AV.
  • Goes into standby every quarter of an hour or half an hour.
  • Line stage does not start up.
  • Hesitant start up. Mains button must be pressed several times. If appliance runs, fails again most of the time after a few mins.
  • PSU is defective, after replacing the protection resistor RP11 and transistor TP32 (BU508) there is still a s/c ie. after switching on appliance there is another complete s/c of the BU 508A straight away.
  • The power supply does not start up. No standby
  • No UHF channels.
  • PSU does not always start after switch on via front control or RC. (service info for SABA -42C710)
  • Cannot be switched on or switched to standby. Standby indicator does not light up.
  • Channels from 21 to 32 come through well but with lines and nothing comes through from 41 to 53.
  • Standby flickers.
  • Tube lights up as if G2 is at max (as if blocked in video). The same if an oscilloscope is put into scart. Sound and scanning ok.
  • Vertical lines are distorted horizontally. E/W equalizer can not be adjusted correctly. (42C710 SABA repair tip)
  • Searches for channels continuously.
  • No sensitivity in the tuning.
  • No horizontal deflection.
  • The varicap voltage does not move.
  • Switches to standby. after a few minutes.
  • 90V problem. RP51 heats up and cuts out. DP51 and CP51 ok. Brand new line transformer.
  • TP01 (BUT12A) fails after longer operating time (SABA - 42C710 information)
  • Loss of sync/raster/sound. Display goes off.
  • Vertical amplitude is too low.
  • Picture drop out and development of smoke. A "rainbow" is visible in the picture.
  • Black band at bottom of screen over approx 8cm. Picture has shifted to the top.
  • Line instability.
  • The linearity coil whistles.
  • Black picture with 10cm of RGB horizontal lines over the whole screen. (service info for SABA -42C710)
  • When warm picture lifts from the bottom and narrows at the top, black lines at the bottom of the screen.
  • The appliance switches off for a short time and back on again. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • U1 = 60V instead of 90V.
  • Does not memorise channel tuning. Display shows channel when TV tunes onto a programme. 'Ch' appears on display when pressing 'S' and channel number reappears.
  • The picture shifts towards the bottom of the screen.
  • Picture shifted vertically.
  • The luminance signal disappears occasionally.
  • Power supply breakdown due to a volt-rise of the power supply kit.
  • Intermittent loss of sync. Blank raster. No audio. No LEDs.
  • Approx one third of the top of the picture is crushed.
  • When switching into standby mode from the remote control the appliance switches off the sound and colour. This effect also occurs with a Condor appliance.
  • No luminance.
  • PSU inoperative.
  • No scanning. Display ok.
  • No tuning.
  • Shade appears behind the picture.
  • S/C in PSU. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
