EV420 / SABA [Video recorder - VHS HiFi]

The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers supplies the following faults for EV420 / SABA.

List of fault symptoms:
  • Clock shifts a few mins each month.
  • Does not erase audio.
  • Memory loss.
  • Loads tape, goes to FF for 2 secs then switches to standby. When started up again, appliance stays in FF for a sec then stops. Tape is released by reverse half rotation of right table. No standby.
  • No display light. No picture. in PB. (EV420 tip from SABA)
  • No picture.
  • Dark display.
  • Poor operation of the quick function button.
  • Does not switch on. Two clicks can be heard from PSU but no functions.
  • Brakes fault. (EV420 tip from SABA)
  • Poor picture. in PB.
  • Cassette compartment tries to load a tape by forcing at switch on then after several moments tries to eject it. Keeps indicating tape presence.
  • M9655: inputting the operating time on non-standard cassettes.
  • Only MESECAM. Tape PB in B/W.
  • Destroys upper part of tape.
  • Tape is damaged. No FF. No REW.
  • Operating info: date adjustment from year 2000.
  • Poor picture. Picture rolls.
  • Unstable picture. in PB.
  • Poor audio. Tape is damaged.
  • No display.
  • Display is bright for a short time then dark.
  • PB fault. Reads a few seconds and then stops. No FF.
  • Capstan motor warms up and drops out after half an hour.
  • Appliance jams. All the segments of the display are lit up.
  • No DVCC voltage. (service info for SABA -EV420)
  • Unsynchronised menu in line and frame with Canal Plus decrypted by the VCR which is in standby.
  • Capstan does not rotate and appliance goes into safety when hot.
  • Tape is retracted, drum turns, tape advances for 15 seconds and then appliance switches to standby.
  • No DVDC voltage, intermittently.
  • Cassette compartment does not retract, end position is not reached during eject.
  • Menu language.
  • No memory. (EV420 tip from SABA)
  • LED lights up sometimes in standby and gives a high level signal on pin 8 of SCART, which commutes the connected TV into AV mode.
  • Unlaces constantly after loading cassette.
  • Modification: VR7021 and VR7041.
  • Whistling from PSU.
  • Doesn't accept cassette. No mechanism reaction.
  • Damaged tape in upper part.
  • Does not load cassette, only if it is pushed. When ejecting cassette becomes stuck half way.
  • Enter service mode.
  • No start-up.
  • Tape rolls up inside the mechanism or tape is damaged.
  • No display. after a few seconds. (SABA - EV420 information)
  • Operation info: Showview Identity numbers.
  • Loads tape then ejects immediately.
  • Noisy picture during REC of normal TV programs.
  • Functions are locked after connecting a peripheric on scart socket AV2.
  • No display. Preference menu is short.
  • Poor eject of the cassette.
  • No LP SP option in programming menu.
  • Eats tape.
  • No audio. in REC.
  • RC part number.
