F15 / SABA [TV (chassis)]

The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers supplies the following faults for F15 / SABA.

List of fault symptoms:
  • Intermittent white, horizontal line in the middle of the picture, otherwise dark.
  • Blurred picture with lines and hardly visible. Very dark.
  • Dead or trips.
  • Sound fails.
  • No horizontal synchronisation.
  • Snow in picture. Noise in audio. after a few minutes.
  • Power supply pulsates 3 times, then no further function.
  • When the appliance has been on for approx. 10 minutes it quits and then comes on again on channel 1. This reoccurs in quick succession and then stays off completely after the third time. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Sound fails.
  • No tuning. in UHF. VHF OK . (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • No or intermittent start-up. Switches off by itself. after a few seconds.
  • No picture, no sound. No stations are found during station search. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • White screen. Flyback lines.
  • Intermittently dead. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • No function. Trips three times. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Appliance has drop out. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Intermittently image and sound disappear. Then only dark flickering. knocking makes screen completely dark. Image conitues appearing if brightness key is pressed. Black/ white only. Image and sound normal again, also if key COLOUR is pressed.
  • Switches to standby. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • How to store picture adjustment values.
  • Poor, noisy stereo sound. Sounds distorted. Mono OK.
  • No luminance but colour is present. No signal on TR47, but 12V is present. (part of circuit diagram displayed) (SABA - F15 information)
  • The PSU pulsates very faintly three times a second. Power processor, quartz, LOPT and BUs have already been replaced unsuccessfully. Mains transformer and flyback transformer have been completely resoldered.
  • Picture appears only after several restarts or after operating picture search.
  • Channels cannot be switched over. Channel display stops on channel 5.
  • Enter service mode.
  • Slow start-up.
  • Does not receive any channel. Everything OK via SCART.
  • No picture. No audio (intermittently). (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Colour fault.
  • Erratic convergence values in the top third of the picture.
  • Speaker problems.
  • No colour in RF function. The colour in teletext is ok.
  • Switches on 3x for a short time, then goes to protective circuit.
  • After 3 start attempts appliance goes to standby again. After several start attempts, appliance starts up suddenly and can be switched off and on again with mains switch, with no problems. When appliance is switched off with mains switch, and remains OFF overnight, fault appears the next day.
  • Poor vertical linearity.
  • Horizontal stripe.
  • No reception. in VHF.
  • Vertical line.
  • The top half of the picture is rainbow coloured and cannot be adjusted.
  • Flickering, flaring, brightness and contrast changes in picture or white with flyback lines.
  • Faulty TXT.
  • With low brightness and contrast, the UHF range is affected by distortion up to channel 28. At maximum brightness, the picture is ok. (picture attached)
  • Noise bars. (F15 tips)
  • No TXT.
  • Dark picture. after a while.
  • Loud noise or crackling in the speaker during stereo transmissions.
  • Horizontal output stage transistor fails repeatedly after few days/weeks without any apparent reason.
  • The stations cannot be memorized.
  • Picture dark and line visible in the top part. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Blank screen (no field scan) and smell of overheating. (picture attached)
  • Wide dark stripes on left side of picture.
  • Vertical collapse. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Only 7 to 10 raster lines in centre of picture. Lines are moving and are not close together (picture attached)
  • Contrast problems.
  • No audio (intermittently).
  • Picture too dark. Blooming with full contrast.
  • Brightness fault.
  • Colour flickers, Picture I ok, picture III cannot be adjusted. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Sound carcks and is distorted in both loudspeakers, audible also when volume is turned down.
  • No function. Appliance fails very quickly twice. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Dead, low whistling.
  • Horizontal bright stripe in the picture. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Picture is dim and faint.
  • Cracks, crackling or sizzling, possibly with fine white lines.
  • Powers up with burning smell, then dead. Mains ON/OFF switch inoperative. (picture attached)
  • No RC functions.
  • Switches off by itself. Knock sensitive.
  • No synchronisation.
  • No vertical deflection. when cold. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Roaring audio.
  • Does not change channels. (F15 tip from SABA)
  • All settings (colour/sound etc.) set to 0.
  • Focus problems.
  • No start-up. Standby LED flashes .
  • Switch on condition of the primary power supply.
  • Picture collapsed to a 5 cm horizontal line in picture centre.
  • After few mins of starting up, only half picture at bottom of screen. PSU chirps.
  • White stripes on the top of picture, which spin. After approx. 5 seconds picture becomes dark.
  • Trapezoid picture.
  • Noise in audio. at low volume.
  • Unsteady frame scan, lines may be present.
  • Dark picture. on upper half screen. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Switches off or cannot be started up.
  • Switches off by itself. constantly.
  • No sound. Picture OK.
  • No picture. No audio. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • No vertical deflection.
  • Black and white picture on channels C46 to C51.
  • No red.
  • Popping noise at switch on.
  • Line output transistor fails repeatedly.
  • Horizontal picture amplitude cannot be adjusted. E/W is defective.
  • Tries to start up then shutsdown.
  • Occasionally IF fault. (picture attached)
  • Height drifts.
  • Occasionally loud cracking and noise in the sound, also when the volume is turned down.
  • Picture interference plus noise on sound.
  • Snow in picture. intermittently. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Dark and colourless AV picture. Occasionally only interference visible. No channel display. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Picture and sound are missing, raster ok.
  • Vertical fault.
  • Does not switch to standby. (service info for SABA -F15)
  • No E/W correction.
  • Intermittently appliance switches off, one or two times per day. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Bright line in the lower part of the picture. (F15 SABA repair tip)
  • Switches off after about 30 mins. If restarted immediately will function for a short time then switches off again. (service info for SABA -F15)
  • Red, green or blue is missing.
  • Colour is missing on teletext.

  • Intermittent serrated vertical edges in picture.
  • Image position adjusts itself vertically wrong.
  • After some time, switches off and then sometimes switches on again by itself. Dragging sound. Slight frame cramping. (picture attached)
  • letters swipe at high contrast, screen in total has low contrast
  • No colour.
  • Goes back to standby after approx. 5 minutes and then can be switched on again via the remote control. After a while the appliance switches off again and the situation repeats. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Single straight line 2 inches from top of screen.
  • Picture is shifted. Linearity fault.
  • Distorted field linearity. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Occasionally picture becomes very narrow (East-West). (part of circuit diagram displayed)

  • Image compressed horizontally. Insufficient width approx 1cm on left and right of screen.
  • Random clicks with Nicam sound.
  • Volume fault.
  • One colour is missing or excessive.

  • Drop out in picture.
  • Very short, faint crackle at switch on from standby
  • Black screen. after a few minutes.
  • No OSD. No TXT.
  • Bright picture. Stripes in picture. (F15 SABA repair tip)
  • No start-up from standby. PSU ticking. at start-up. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Appliance trips three times, then no function, and no standby display.
  • No HV. (F15 tips)
  • The PSU collapses when the load is changed. (F15 SABA repair tip)
  • Lines flash on picture, may not affect all channels.
  • Moire pattern.
  • Dancing white horizontal lines on a stripe which is approx 10cm wide. Dark picture. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Power supply end stage transistor TP24 (S2000AF) fails after approx 15 mins. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Occasionally the East/West scanning fails.
  • Part no. info: PSU repair kit.
  • After light spot when turning off.
  • No start-up (intermittently).
  • No light during max. contrast and brightness. Faint picture. Picture present via scart. (picture attached)
  • Failure to start up. Standby LED flashes at about 1Hz when appliance switched on at mains. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Incorrect picture size.
  • Immediate S/C. Brief HT, then standby. (picture attached)

  • Picture is disturbed. Vertical lines are wavy. Picture improves when appliance is warm.
  • Switches to protection mode. at start-up.

  • After switching over station has disappeared. After switching off and on again station returns.

  • Flashing "PS" in display in standby. Switches off after a short while. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • No picture and no sound. The mains relay does not pull in.
  • Loud noise if switched to standby. (+ extract of circuit diagram)

  • Horizontal stripes at 3-4cm distance. Dark picture. Loud chirping in line transformer.
  • Jagged picture vertically.
  • Y signal is not available.
  • Pulsates 2 up to 3 times, otherwise no function.
  • One colour missing.
  • Tuning drifts, patterning.
  • Picture visible in 1" strip at left hand side of screen, rest blanked.

  • Line tearing.
  • No channels visible. Dark picture, without colour. AV picture visible, without colour, dark and intermittently only picture noise. (SABA - F15 information)
  • Starts up three times then switches off. Protection mode activated. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Versucht 3 times to start up, then remains off.

  • No picture. Audio OK .

  • Horizontal linearity fault. (SABA - F15 information)
  • Zig Zag verticals.
  • Functions only after several attempts.
  • No picture on lower half of screen. Top half picture OK.
  • Battery dead.
  • During monochrome transmissions, colour breaks through.

  • Ballooning effect. (SABA - F15 information)

  • No new channels can be adjusted, no reception but old channels however are stored.
  • The picture is intermittent and jitters.
  • Appliance switches briefly on three times and switches to protection mode.
  • Dark picture without colour. AV picture visible, without colour, dark and only intermittently visible picture noise.
  • Poor picture contrast, picture can hardly be seen. Becomes a little bit better with more brightness. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • No function. Appliance fails twice very quickly.
  • Pulsates 2-3 times and switches off.
  • No function. Faint whistle. (service info for SABA -F15)
  • Appliance does not start up intermittently, or attempts to start up 3 times.
  • No channel search and no band switching possible.
  • Vertical roll.
  • No audio. intermittently. Noise in audio. Knock sensitive.
  • Visible television picture in TXT (display shows lines).
  • Picture is overmodulated when picture content is bright. Picture flickers intermittently black.
  • The sound hums. The stations are quite wrong.
