FF324 / SABA [TV (Standard)]

The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers supplies the following faults for FF324 / SABA.

List of fault symptoms:
  • Loud crackling noise from right hand loud speaker at switch on.
  • No or low start-up volts at IL14.
  • No synchronisation (intermittently).
  • No sound or picture. Dark screen. FBT functions. Filament tube is lit up. In scart with a VCR normal sound but no picture. Raster appears faintly when the TV is switched off then switched on again immediately.
  • OSD doubled in height. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • No OSG, (on screen graphics). Although no OSG, picture functions can still be altered.
  • Type of memory battery. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Intermittent trip/chopper failure.
  • Intermittent unlocked colours.
  • Poor chrominance of black/white with colour at zero.

  • Replacing BU508, BU508AV, S2000A, S2000A2 and TP24.
  • With a 220V/100W load or with line connected, power supply stops but functions with the line disconnected. (FF324 tip from SABA)
  • Picture appears after 1.5 mins when cold and after 25 mins when warm (with circuit diagram extract)
  • TV functions but the displays are erased after a few secs.

  • No IF signal from the tuner.

  • No standby light when put into standby and impossible to start up again, except when starting up from the control panel.

  • Channel programming is impossible. The channels are defective on the display.
  • Unstable picture. Horizontal interference on the screen. The sound crackles.
  • Poor reception. in UHF. Hum in audio.
  • Crackling audio.

  • Shuts down. after start-up.
  • TL31 heats up and blows after 5 mins.

  • No tuning possible. Hum in VHF. Channel display correct.

  • Part number info: processors.
  • Desynchronisation of the OSD when changing channel or "display line adjustment" display circulates on the screen and is illegible. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Will not go into standby cleanly when hot, it will pulse between standby and on 5/6 times before finally staying in standby.
  • No picture, white screen and there is an erasing problem after one hour.
  • No sound on NICAM sets.
  • Volume alters by itself or sound is distorted.
  • Crackling, occasionally squealing after operating for approximately 20 mins.
  • Only rainbow colours (picture foldover).
  • Poor horizontal synchronisation. when changing channels.

  • No audio.
  • Start up is difficult and occasionally impossible with the IR remote control.
  • Lines in picture. No colour. No RC functions.
  • Appliance functions in VHF but not in UHF. Snow is present.
  • Power supply doesn't start up.
  • No HF signals received. Band switch over is not possible.
  • Loss of memory when you switch off the TV and in standby you need to be 5cm from the TV to start it up again despite the TV operating well. Battery is ok.

  • No picture. intermittently.
  • No reception and the display is in German.
  • After an hour dark screen, no sound, display is correct. The display remains on the channel selected then a moment afterwards goes into standby.

  • Protection circuit comes into force inappropriately.
  • No UHF channels. when cold.
  • When increasing contrast or on bright video scenes, chroma disappears and 1 or 2 vertical fine black lines appear on left of screen.

  • Unstable picture. in UHF.
  • No stereo reception on channel 60. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • No picture, sound o.k. High voltage and power supply in good order.
  • No sound at switch on.

  • Loss of light after 15 minutes.

  • Rolling colours and white lines.
  • Vertical interference line (1/2cm wide) at left of picture on low channels.

  • No sound. Good picture then goes into stand-by after 5 mins then starts up again after pressing a channel number 3 or 4 times.
  • The 1.6A fuse is open circuit. (picture attached)
  • Constant red, green and blue line scanning.
  • No horizontal deflection (intermittently).
  • PSU trips three times then powers down. Standby LED lit briefly at switch on. (picture attached)
  • Disable electronic combination lock.
  • Volume changes by itself or distorted sound.
  • At switch on, raster linearity fault for 1-2 minutes.
  • Very poor colour. Looks like indent fault.

  • LED characters are displayed back to front.
  • PSU fails in various conditions.

  • Colour fails occasionally.
  • No sound and occasionally the mute function is activated.
  • No sound or picture. No digits lit on display except STEREO and STEREO S2 lit.

  • When switching on snow with moiré on all stations. It seems as if the stations are way out. After running for a short time picture is ok.
  • Occasionally memorized data of control unit processor is lost at switch on or switch off with mains switch.
  • Picture is almost dark, colours are weak and the Y-signal is too weak.
  • The picture amplitude is too small. The whole of the picture is recorded in the lower half of the screen.
  • Starts up three times then switches off.

  • Thumping noise from one channel at switch on.
  • Colour cuts out occasionally.
  • Does not start up, no standby. Voltage on TP48 C 0V, Bet E 7.35V. Voltage 300 on CP03 OK.
  • No TXT, although control shows appliance is in TXT.
  • Distorted verticals only on top.
  • No sound at switch on. Sound returns when channel is changed. Fault only occurs at start up.
  • TV does not start up. Power supply does not decouple.

  • Distorted text page numbers.
  • TP48 fails after a few days.
  • Appliance has no HF reception. Snowy picture. (picture attached)

  • No brightness (intermittently).

  • Black screen. Switches to RGB in Canal Plus. Sound OK.

  • Does not start up. 142V on line collector S2000, the standby LED scarcely lights up when appliance is switched off, a priori no diodes s/c.
  • The picture only appears after about 3 or 4 minutes and then turns red or blue.
  • Picture jumps and vertical distorsion according to video content, mostly on second station, channel 21. Intermittent fault.
  • Appliance has no HF reception. Snowy picture.
  • Colour fails occasionally.
  • No red on TXT. Picture OK.

  • Protective circuit malfunction.
  • 1Khz tone breaking onto NICAM sound. OK in mono mode.
  • Picture has shifted horizontally. Sound available only every 2 secs. Picture and sound OK via AV.
  • Trips three times at start up.

  • No power supply. Standby light comes on then goes off.
  • Flickering on channel 60 and on special channels.
  • Line tearing in TXT.

  • Top half of picture has squiggling verticals which alter with field shift/height. Picture may blank out with coloured lines dependent upon vertical shift position, accompanied by rasping noise from PSU!

  • Poor base command. TL31 at -0.4V instead of -0.8V, correct format.

  • Screen is blank with rolling lines at the top.
  • Flyback rasters on screen. No picture, no sound. Display on the front is ok.
  • Mains switch does not lock on.
  • The picture jumps when the appliance is warm and moves downwards.

  • Dead. Standby LED lit .

  • TL17 shorts at start up.
  • Colour bleeding.
  • White wavy line across the middle of picture 1in wide. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Wrong display. Low light with no picture or sound.
  • After deprogramming, followed by a reprogramming, TV functions but the channels have each increased by 9 units. Eg.: 2nd channel is 49 instead of 40. Hence it is impossible to receive channel 62.
  • Only a horizontal line at the bottom. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • At switch on RC must be held at least 40cm from the appliance. If appliance runs, all other functions work perfectly from 4-5m away. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Blank raster, sound + EHT OK, no r.g.b. Out of IV21 (HA11498). (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Appliance switches off sporadically and immediately starts again. After 3 times it can only be started by the mains switch. Fault occurs according to the picture content 2 to 20 times per day.
  • Severe patterning like white sparklies. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Four vertical lines in upper picture area.
  • After changing transformer LP03 burns. TL31 disconnected, 7V on DP37 and 145V on DP41 OK. BU508AT5 has been replaced by BU508A but fault still persists.
  • Black screen. All the voltages are correct. The sound, line transformer and the G2 are ok but the screen remains black.

  • The video fails with the decoder syster. No problem with the old decoder.

  • Red coloured spot at the bottom left of the screen.
  • Poor channel reception and channels 59 and 62 are replaced by snow. Occasionally reception is correct.
  • Menu display in wrong language.
  • Service info: Unlocking the code lock.
  • Sound distorted when volume increased.
  • Standard does not change. Channel search is ok.
  • Volume changes by itself or sound is distorted.
  • Intermittently blocks in AV. The channels remain displayed on the display.
  • S2000 in power supply defective after a few mins.
  • There is 145V instead of 170V and there is too much L/T amplitude.
  • HT is low at approx. 152V and has intermittent tripping.
  • Interchangeability of teletext boards between chassis ICC5 and ICC5.01.

  • Blows TP24 and/or TL31. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Colour cuts out occasionally.
  • No colour (intermittently).
  • At switch on, focus pot arcing and igniting. CRT board and tube ventiduct disconnected but fault persists.

  • Channel 60 and special channels flicker. U6 (30V) too low.
  • High pitch whistle on sound, varies with volume mainly on IBA transmission but can occur on BBC as well.
  • No STEREO reception on channel 60.
  • Echo on picture.
  • Sound reduction. It sometimes returns when changing channels.
  • At switch off, loud noises from the speaker.
  • Picture jitters.
  • Loss of memory. All program sites on C00.
  • General information.
  • No SECAM. Only PAL, even adjusting it to SECAM F. Remains in PAL. OK via scart.
  • Switches to protection mode. intermittently.
  • Does not switch on and no standby.

  • Appliance trips and shuts down, sound or raster is missing.
  • Replaced small transformer which was burning but TV remains in standby and FBT crackles for 5-6 secs then nothing.
  • The appliance does not work with the remote control, but requests from the appliance are accepted.

  • Switches to standby. after start-up (intermittently).
  • Vertical lines pulling at the top of the picture.
  • No or slight sound on the right and/or left tracks.

  • The picture moves out of its frame when the appliance is warm.
  • Audible whistling from the back of the cabinet.
  • Voltage U5 21V goes to 35V when appliance is warm. Vertical displacement. The other EHT secondary voltages are stable.
  • Power supply switches off, breaker circuit doesn't start up even with continuous attempts to start up.
  • Appliance blocks in PAL. Operates in video cassette and channel. Telecom display is abnormal. L equals sound, H equals light and F equals colour.
  • No sound. No picture. No OSD. Only purity spots.
  • Various breakdowns due to U1=7V.

  • No channel storing.
