FF338 / SABA [TV (Standard)]
The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers
supplies the following faults for FF338 / SABA.
List of fault symptoms:
- No display on screen. Black line which moves around instead. TXT is not synchronised. When changing channel a black band appears at the top of the screen displaying V1 then disappears. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- No standard switch over. No SECAM.
- LED characters are displayed back to front.
- Picture shifted vertically. (picture attached)
- Memory loss. (service info for SABA -FF338)
- No start-up (intermittently). (with circuit diagram extract)
- No stereo reception on channel 60. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- At switch on, raster linearity fault for 1-2 minutes.
- Black raster. 1/2in of picture. (picture attached)
- Crackling audio. intermittently.

- Accepts tuning channel number but does not alter tuning.
- In the picture appear black lines similar to lightning. Fault is not visible via scart.
- Power supply of the control micro is too low (micro has been changed). 3 Volts, CTV does not start up.

- Blows line output transformer.
- Pincushion distortion. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Switches off then starts up again, mostly when cold. When TV works, sound mute and background noise, but sound reappears at channel switch over.
- No picture. via tuner.
- Shifts 8 channels after being put back into service mode.
- NICAM sound crackles and is distorted.

- Teletext moves vertically. Appliance functions very well when Teletext is not displayed.
- Random clicks with Nicam sound.
- Pincushion potentiometer PG08 controls picture width.
- No colour in Secam, ok in Pal. RGB ok.
- Bottom of picture stretches intermittently. E/W effect.
- Colour cuts out occasionally.
- After switch on power supply pulsates three times. (picture attached)
- No audio (after start-up).
- Poor quality sound in FM, ok in AM. (SABA - FF338 information)
- Cabinet back cover vibrates at certain audio frequencies.
- The TV locks in low range frequency. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- When increasing contrast or on bright video scenes, chroma disappears and 1 or 2 vertical fine black lines appear on left of screen.
- Variable sound and picture crackling with snow.
- Picture is green, red or blue with flyback lines. (picture attached)
- Disable electronic lock.

- Appliance switches off sporadically and immediately starts again. After 3 times it can only be started by the mains switch. Fault occurs according to the picture content 2 to 20 times per day.
- The PSU switches 3 times, line transformer, E/W diodes, U4 and U5 are ok.
- When switching on with RCU, appliance does not react unless you are approx 1m away from it.

- Faulty TXT.
- Reduced vertical deflection.

- Sound OK on Canal Plus. No luminance when using decoder.
- Standby LED flashing in standby mode.

- After two-three hours the sound crackles very loudly. Model (51K5) Nicam .

- SAT switch over is defective.
- No picture, white screen and there is an erasing problem after one hour.
- No RC functions. after warm-up.
- Signal and tuning are missing.
- No NICAM sound. Normal sound OK.
- Loud noises from speaker (at switch-off).

- No synchronisation. TXT OK .
- Intermittent colour when setting picture geometry.

- Protection mode activated. Standby LED flashes .

- Switches off for a short time then returns on programme 1 (early F15 chassis).
- Picture reduced to the top half of the screen with a linearity fault. Light pulsates and flyback raster on some lighter pictures. Scanning returns to normal occasionally when changing channels. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- No correct reading on the display.
- Poor grey scale. Dominates in black and white. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Cycles on/off.
- No colour in PB from a Ferguson FV26D VCR when VCR is positioned under the TV.
- Unable to tune in fully.

- No start up of PSU. 300V present.
- U system voltage table.

- No sound at switch on. Sound returns when channel is changed. Fault only occurs at start up.
- Loss of memory. All program sites on C00.

- VHF band 1 occasionally fails. Snow and sizzling noise in sound. Band 3 and high channels are ok.
- Remote control operation problem. Microprocessor memory and new quartz. New remote control. Remote control information reception on the microprocessor.
- Poor reception. in UHF. Hum in audio.
- There is 145V instead of 170V and there is too much L/T amplitude.
- Black, green, pink, blue screen after start-up for 1 min, then goes to normal.

- No TXT (intermittently).
- No UHF reception, displays channel.
- Reduced vertical and horizontal size.

- Blurred colour blobs on screen.

- Colour picture via the tuner, black and white in scart.
- No picture. There is a white raster on the right of the screen. (service info for SABA -FF338)
- Dark screen with some RGB lines at the bottom of the screen and whistling near the FBT. Capacitor 1000/40V has been changed but fault persists. FBT has been changed but dark screen with hum then goes into safety mode.
- Picture and sound disappear after approx 5-10 minutes. Not heat-sensitive.
- Intense patterning on picture, silvering effect on all white areas.

- Failure to switch on from standby unless programme "UP" button is used.
- Sound reduction. It sometimes returns when changing channels.
- Mains transistor TP24 (S2000AF) blown straight after being turned on.
- No tuning, OSD or TXT.

- Incorrect horizontal linearity, right part of test pattern is wider than left.
- Screen is very snowy.
- Loss of channel 1.

- No colour.
- Intermittent motorboating noise on sound.

- Horizontal lines.

- After deprogramming, followed by a reprogramming, TV functions but the channels have each increased by 9 units. Eg.: 2nd channel is 49 instead of 40. Hence it is impossible to receive channel 62.
- Loss of memory. Crackle in sound. Flashing picture. Distorted µPC. No sound only noise. No stereo reception. Does not always start up. Wrong values which cannot be changed. Wrong colours and distorted PIP-function.
- No colour (intermittently).

- After an hour dark screen, no sound, display is correct. The display remains on the channel selected then a moment afterwards goes into standby. (SABA - FF338 information)
- No picture, sound o.k. High voltage and power supply in good order.
- VHF band 1 fails occasionally. Snow and sizzling in the sound. Band 3 and high channels are ok.
- TV goes off and switches on again three times then goes into safety mode.

- Sound only at maximum volume.

- Intermittent fault. The TV stops and even the standby light has gone out. Starts up again by itself.
- Cut-off adjustment.
- TL31 heats up and blows after 5 mins. (SABA - FF338 information)

- No channel storing.

- Intermittent NICAM sound.
- Switches on, but HV does not build up.
- No channel storing.
- Replacing BU508, BU508AV, S2000A, S2000A2 and TP24.

- A1 voltage.

- No signal.

- The very high tension is intermittent.

- After working for a while, RVB lines appear at the top of the screen.
