FF387 / SABA [TV (Standard)]
The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers
supplies the following faults for FF387 / SABA.
List of fault symptoms:
- Programme indicator "1" flashes but will not tune.
- Remote control operation problem. Microprocessor memory and new quartz. New remote control. Remote control information reception on the microprocessor.

- TV deprogrammes, starts up again then remains in PAL. It is impossible to display S2 standard.

- A useful note with these appliances.
- Colour bleeding.
- Horizontal line. at top. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- TP24 fails after first EHT pulse.
- Protection mode activated. Standby LED flashes .
- Dead (intermittently). (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Thumping noise from one channel at switch on.
- Intermittent loss of colour. Worse when warm.
- No tape-end shut off, changing IT20 and IR01 does not cure the problem, no reception on all channels only white shimmer. (SABA - FF387 information)

- Stations drift off tune by channel input. Can only be adjusted by fine tuning.
- Part no. info.: RC.
- Poor base command. TL31 at -0.4V instead of -0.8V, correct format.

- No EHT or power supply when switched on. 7V=6.3V.
- Maladjusted convergence on the top quarter of the picture.
- No picture content. After switching on bright picture with colour flecks, same picture without HF signal. Sound OK.

- Line tearing in TXT.

- Pop at switch on.
- Picture appears to pulse or flutter.
- No reception or sound. Brightness is OK.
- No sync on TXT and sound. Mixed mode OK.

- The power supply blocks.
- RV82 (10R) on tube board blows repeatedly.
- Blank screen with out of focus blob in bottom centre of screen. (FF387 tip from SABA)
- Service info: Contrast- and beam current adjustment after replacing chroma video module.
- Cannot be switched over from all channels.

- Vertical interference line (1/2cm wide) at left of picture on low channels.
- When the appliance switches off, a spot appears on the screen. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- The sound disappears when the appliance is warm.
- Will not go into standby cleanly when hot, it will pulse between standby and on 5/6 times before finally staying in standby.
- Receives no HF signals. Band switch over is not possible. (with circuit diagram extract)

- Line amplitude is too strong and there is a problem with the east/west cushion. (FF387 tip from SABA)

- Video disappears and comes back after a few seconds. Sound present.

- No sound. No vertical or horizontal scanning. Just a blue line.

- Sound is lost intermittently.
- No sound. Good picture then goes into stand-by after 5 mins then starts up again after pressing a channel number 3 or 4 times.

- Popping noise from speakers at switch on.

- Colour cuts out occasionally.
- At switch on RC must be held at least 40cm from the appliance. If appliance runs, all other functions work perfectly from 4-5m away. (picture attached)
- Switched mode chopper transistor blows fuse at switch on. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Vertical deflection. Rotating lines in the lower third of the picture.
- No colour in Secam, ok in Pal. RGB ok.
- All adjustments at zero (brightness, colour, contrast). Channels are also at zero. Adjustments can be made at 50 but they are lost during standby or ON/OFF. (picture attached)
- Reduced vertical deflection. at bottom.

- Remains blocked in PAL.
- Green picture.

- Unstable picture. Horizontal interference on the screen. The sound crackles.
- Snow in picture. intermittently.
- No start up. No drive pulse for PSU Pin 7 IC14 (TEA2029). (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Flickering on channel 60 and on special channels.
- Field collapse across centre of screen. Hum bar may drift down screen about 1 hour before field collapses.
- RC part number.
- Flyback rasters on screen. No picture, no sound. Display on the front is ok.
- No sound or picture. Dark screen. In scart with a VCR, normal sound but no picture. Raster appears faintly when the TV is switched off then switched on again immediately.
- Dead (after start-up). (FF387 tips)

- Teletext moves vertically. Appliance functions very well when Teletext is not displayed.
- No B-Y. (picture attached)
- When cold trips 3 times with crackling in the speaker, then safety mode. When warm trips then starts up. (with circuit diagram extract)

- Snowy picture. After 3 mins picture returns to normal.
- Menu display in wrong language.
- Colour bleeding.
- There is a moire effect on the screen for a short while and no sound.

- Goes into standby and cannot be turned on using RC; OK when channel up button on set is pressed for approx 8 secs. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Blank raster, sound + EHT OK, no r.g.b. Out of IV21 (HA11498). (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- LED display characters are back to front. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- No colour (intermittently).
- At switch on, after 15 secs, dark screen with a few horizontal white lines between the middle and top of screen. Picture returns with geometry fault, if PG08 is turned. Sound ok.
- No blue. in TXT. Picture OK .

- Red coloured spot at the bottom left of the screen.
- Switches to protection mode. intermittently.
- Only rainbow colours (vertical deflection).
- Occasionally memorized data of control unit processor is lost at switch on or switch off with mains switch.
- Contrast is low in text mode, TV and mix modes are ok.

- High pitch whistle on sound, varies with volume mainly on IBA transmission but can occur on BBC as well.

- TL29 fails in B and C after start up.
- Appliance trips or RL44 burns up.
- When TV is switched on in standard G, standard cannot be modified. (with circuit diagram extract)
- No vertical deflection. intermittently.

- The sound cuts out when warm.
- Dead. LED blinks .

- Nicam is intermittent.
- No sound on NICAM sets.
- No signal.

- Crackling audio. intermittently.

- After working for a while, RVB lines appear at the top of the screen.
- No IF signal from the tuner.

- Switches on, but HV does not build up.
- Tuner cutting out occasionally.
- After replacing IV21, picture is too wide. Slight geometry fault.

- Snowy raster.
- No sound via scart and Canal Plus.

- Child lock.

- At switch on, raster linearity fault for 1-2 minutes.
- No display. after a few seconds. AV OK .
- ICC7 chassis. N/S correction does not function properly. Initially no function.
- Terrestrial channel in background of Satellite transmission.
- Sound reduction. It sometimes returns when changing channels.
- Intermittent NICAM sound.

- No operation (intermittently).
- No standard switch over. No SECAM.
- Thin black lines across picture. Intermittent arcing. (picture attached)
- Shade gradually becomes purplish. Ok at start up. Degaussing ok.

- Channel raster has shifted by two or more channels. (with circuit diagram extract)
- No SECAM. Only PAL, even adjusting it to SECAM F. Remains in PAL. OK via scart.
- Poor colour.
- TV functions but the displays are erased after a few secs.

- Occasionally memorized data of control unit processor is lost at switch on or switch off with mains switch.
- Poor focus on picture or TXT. Low brightness and badly smeared. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Vertical rolling, will not lock with adjustment of the potentiometer.
- The very high tension is intermittent.

- CTV loses its programming when there is a power cut. What is the value the battery must charge at ?
- Anomaly due to built in switch.
- No picture (after a few minutes).

- Program site is displayed but the appropriate picture does not appear. If fine tuning is activated, picture appears.

- Brightness of display is adjustable.
- At switch on by ON/OFF switch EHT is heard for 1 sec. then goes dead. No display, no LED.

- No channel storing.

- TP48 fails after a few days.
- Picture is almost dark, colours are weak and the Y-signal is too weak.
- LED characters are displayed back to front.
- Channels have shifted (test picture on channel 33, channel no. 42 displayed).
- No search possible, snow.

- Dead. Standby dot lights up for 1 sec. at switch off.

- Heavy patterning on picture. Turning colour down patterning disappears, but the B/W picture has silvery effect on white areas.
- Excessive HV.

- Appliance functions in VHF but not in UHF. Snow is present.
- Blurry picture.
- Only 1/4 inch of picture at left hand side. Remainder of picture blank.
- Only channel 21 is received in UHF. Picture and sound ok in VHF. Displays the correct channels.
- Loss of memory. Crackle in sound. Flashing picture. Distorted µPC. No sound only noise. No stereo reception. Does not always start up. Wrong values which cannot be changed. Wrong colours and distorted PIP-function.
- No picture only on 3 channels (eg. nothing on 1, 3 and 6 but picture on 2 and 5) after warming up for 10 mins. This problem disturbs other TVs plugged into the same aerial. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Top half of picture has squiggling verticals which alter with field shift/height. Picture may blank out with coloured lines dependent upon vertical shift position, accompanied by rasping noise from PSU!

- All rails are very low, 3V on 158V (158 reads 500 Ohm).
- No UHF channels. when cold.
- Volume alters by itself or sound is distorted.
- The picture jumps when the appliance is warm and moves downwards.
- Ticking noise on sound and intermittent sound mute.
- Signal and tuning are missing.
- Loud noises from speaker (at switch-off).
- Picture geometry problems.
- Colour picture via the tuner, black and white in scart. (SABA - FF387 information)
- Poor channel reception and channels 59 and 62 are replaced by snow. Occasionally reception is correct.
- Display isn't synchronised and has black horizontal line on picture instead which disappears when pressing TV key on RC but comes back again.
- Volume changes by itself or sound is distorted.
- Line transformer does not start up.

- Bottom of picture stretches intermittently. E/W effect.

- Blurred picture, fine adjustment does not adjust sufficiently.
- Dark screen with some RGB lines at the bottom of the screen and whistling near the FBT. Capacitor 1000/40V has been changed but fault persists. FBT has been changed but dark screen with hum then goes into safety mode.

- Replacement of uP HD 404019 A05.
- No UHF reception, displays channel.

- Accepts channel number but will not tune.
- Random flashing of lines on screen.
- No power supply and the stand-by light is lit on.
- Constant red, green and blue line scanning.
- TP24 blown when appliance goes into standby.

- Noisy sound on both channels (dependent on the volume setting).
