FF451 / SABA [TV (Standard)]
The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers
supplies the following faults for FF451 / SABA.
List of fault symptoms:
- No RC functions. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Line tearing. (+ extract of circuit diagram)

- OSD doubled in height. (picture attached)
- When increasing contrast or on bright video scenes, chroma disappears and 1 or 2 vertical fine black lines appear on left of screen.
- Colour picture via the tuner, black and white in scart.
- Occasionally memorized data of control unit processor is lost at switch on or switch off with mains switch.
- A useful note with these appliances. (SABA - FF451 information)
- After two-three hours the sound crackles very loudly. Model (51K5) Nicam .
- No UHF switching voltage or programme reception. (picture attached)
- Picture detuned on all channels. (FF451 tip from SABA)
- Moire effect in the colour areas.
- Crackling sound on "Nicam".

- LED characters are displayed back to front.
- Poor reception. Pieces of OSD appear erratically on display. No menu display.
- Colour flashing in and out. (picture attached)
- In safety mode after working for a long time appliance trips then stops. Display off.
- No sound at switch on.

- No picture. Rainbow colours in lower picture area.

- Colour cuts out occasionally.

- Ticking noise. Muted audio. intermittently.

- No sound. No vertical or horizontal scanning. Just a blue line.
- Starts up three times then switches off.
- No picture, only flyback raster visible with distorted raster.
- No stereo reception on channel 60.
- Vertical rolling, will not lock with adjustment of the potentiometer.
- Impossible to select bands. Tuner UHF OK. OK via scart. Signal present.

- No sound, no picture. Weak brightness. Flyback lines if G2 pushed. No functions from TV front panel.
- Wrong display. Low light with no picture or sound.

- No audio.
- TV functions but the displays are erased after a few secs.

- Spitting noise from speaker. Intermittent digital sound. NICAM LED's go out.
- In time picture increasingly wanders down the screen.
- No UHF channels. when cold.

- The picture jumps when the appliance is warm and moves downwards.
- Does not switch standards, remains in PAL.
- Only channel 21 is received in UHF. Picture and sound ok in VHF. Displays the correct channels.
- Intermittent tripping, display ok. Possible start up again via On/Off switch.

- Channel 60 and special channels flicker. U6 (30V) too low. (FF451 tip from SABA)
- Goes into safety 3 times.
- Contrast is low in text mode, TV and mix modes are ok.
- Colour bleeding.
- Deprogramming due to static loads.
- At switch on, after 15 secs, dark screen with a few horizontal white lines between the middle and top of screen. Picture returns with geometry fault, if PG08 is turned. Sound ok.
- Crackling audio.
- Rainbow on the screen.
- VCR problems.

- Black screen. Switches to RGB in Canal Plus. Sound OK.

- Intermittent audio.
- Brightness of display is adjustable.
- No correct reading on the display.
- Colour fails occasionally.
- Screen is very snowy.

- Accepts tuning channel number but does not alter tuning.

- Picture white out.
- Pop at switch on.

- Part no. info.: RC.
- Volume changes by itself or distorted sound.
- Intermittent field collapse. Bright flyback lines rolling at centre of screen 3ins high. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Does not start up. 142V on line collector S2000, the standby LED scarcely lights up when appliance is switched off, a priori no diodes s/c.
- Interchangeability of teletext boards between chassis ICC5 and ICC5.01.
- No audio. STEREO OK . (SABA - FF451 information)
- Set blocks (operation via RC or via user control only possible, after the set has been switched off and on again by mains switch.
- Incorrect horizontal linearity, right part of test pattern is wider than left.
- Mains transistor TP24 (S2000AF) blown straight after being turned on.
- No tuning, OSD or TXT.
- After two minutes graphics appear on screen showing "nicam and mono" flickering and affecting audio reception. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Intermittent loss of channels from memory after switching on again. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Sound interruption and/or crackling.
- Incorrect TXT graphics. Black bars displayed down screen.
- Bright screen for short period of time, after this just snow confusion and crackling noises in sound.

- Vertical fault.
- Black box appears instead of clock on channel change or when adjusting volume on IMC models.
- Shifts 8 channels after being put back into service mode.
- No HF signals received. Band switch over is not possible.

- Only rainbow effect (picture foldover).
- Powers up, LED flashing once.
- No picture. White screen with an oscillating interference signal. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Sometimes CTV starts up and functions. When the CTV is functioning, it stops then starts up again all by itself.
- Intermittent loud distortion, a bit like motorboating. More likely to occur at high volume settings.
- Rainbow effect on lower picture edge, otherwise no picture.
- No sound or picture. No digits lit on display except STEREO and STEREO S2 lit.
- Colour cuts out occasionally.
- No stereo reception on channel 60.
- Goes into black and white, flyback lines then stops. Dead. Starts up again 2 or 3 times then cuts out completely.
- The TV may function for several days then cut out. VHT is present, black screen and the display indicates standby mode.
- The appliance does not work with the remote control, but requests from the appliance are accepted.
- Unstable picture. in UHF.
- No Y-picture or colour.
- Intermittently blocks in AV. The channels remain displayed on the display. (FF451 tip from SABA)
- Dark picture with 3 RGB lines. Sound available. (SABA - FF451 information)

- Vertical roll. Vertical foldover at bottom. (picture attached)
- Replacement of the diode split transformer in old chassis ICC5 and new chassis ICC5-01.
- After changing the CRT base, there is HT flashover which appears as crackling sound and flickering picture. (FF451 tips)

- Poor vertical linearity.
- Channel raster has shifted by two or more channels.
- No reception and the display is in German.

- Sound pops.
- Loud noises from speaker (at switch-off).
- No audio.
- TV goes off and switches on again three times then goes into safety mode.
- Fades out or very dim.
- Display flashes and turns dark. Channel displayed but cannot be adjusted. RC OK.
- Does not start up, no standby. Voltage on TP48 C 0V, Bet E 7.35V. Voltage 300 on CP03 OK.
- Echo on picture.

- In the picture appear black lines similar to lightning. Fault is not visible via scart.
- Sporadic hum from speaker. Hum disappears when switched off and on. (with circuit diagram extract)
- No HV (intermittently).
- No OSG, (on screen graphics). Although no OSG, picture functions can still be altered.

- No blue. in TXT. Picture OK .
- How to set up SERVICE mode when appliance remains in low range.
- Intermittent motorboating noise on sound.
- Horizontal lines.

- No horizontal amplification.

- Colour fails occasionally.
- Volume changes by itself or sound is distorted.
- Resistor RP01 on the power supply module burns.
- Difficulty starting up. When started up it functions for a few mins. (extract of circuit diagram attached)

- Channels 1, 2, 3 and 4 ok but teletext is green.
- Occasionally the picture is red with flyback lines.
- Channel 60 and special channels flicker. U6 (30V) is too low.
- After deprogramming, followed by a reprogramming, TV functions but the channels have each increased by 9 units. Eg.: 2nd channel is 49 instead of 40. Hence it is impossible to receive channel 62.
- No display. after a few seconds. AV OK .

- Programming impossible but responds in SERVICE mode.

- Bright picture. Flyback lines.
- No switch on. When switching off with mains switch LED switches on then off. (SABA - FF451 information)
- Malfunctioning AGC adjustment. (picture attached)
- No UHF reception, displays channel.
- Dark screen with some RGB lines at the bottom of the screen and whistling near the FBT. Capacitor 1000/40V has been changed but fault persists. FBT has been changed but dark screen with hum then goes into safety mode.
- No search possible, snow.
- Random flashing of lines on screen.
- Thumping noise from one channel at switch on.
- No start up. No drive pulse for PSU Pin 7 IC14 (TEA2029). (picture attached)
- Colour bleeding.

- Child lock.
- Line amplitude is too strong and there is a problem with the east/west cushion.
- V2 voltage.
- Cabinet back cover vibrates at certain audio frequencies.
- Service info: Unlocking the code lock.

- No colour when cold.
- Remains blocked in PAL.
- Only white noise, channel LEDs do not light up.
- Receives no HF signals. Tape switch over is not possible.

- No sound. Good picture then goes into stand-by after 5 mins then starts up again after pressing a channel number 3 or 4 times.
- Appliance blocks in PAL. Operates in video cassette and channel. Telecom display is abnormal. L equals sound, H equals light and F equals colour.
- Power supply switches off, breaker circuit doesn't start up even with continuous attempts to start up.
- No picture appears in PAL.
- Occasionally dead, then snow. Goes into standby by the RCU and only starts up again after 30 secs.
- Line BU blows after some time.
- No or low start-up volts at IL14.
- No colour in SECAM. Functions in PAL via scart.
- RC part number.
- Moire pattern. after warm-up.
- No brightness. Audio OK .
- Switches on, but HV does not build up.
- Loss of light after 15 minutes.
- No audio. (SABA - FF451 information)
- TL29 fails in B and C after start up.
- Power supply BU blows after 10 secs. Correct power supply attempted with line transformer load disconnected.
- Tuner cutting out occasionally.
- VHF band 1 occasionally fails. Snow and sizzling noise in sound. Band 3 and high channels are ok.
- Receiver goes off after tripping of power supply.
- Service information: Function of the E/W stage.
- At switch on, raster linearity fault for 1-2 minutes.

- PSU does not oscillate correctly. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Blocked on channel no 1 in manual and in RCU.
- No TXT. Command is received but not carried out. Picture does not turn black.
- TL31 heats up and blows after 5 mins.
- No colour (intermittently).
- Vertical deflection. Rotating lines in the lower third of the picture.
- Only 1/4 inch of picture at left hand side. Remainder of picture blank.
- Variable sound and picture crackling with snow.
- Colour fails occasionally.
- Display isn't synchronised and has black horizontal line on picture instead which disappears when pressing TV key on RC but comes back again.
- Moire effect and no sound for a few moments. (picture attached)
- Poor chrominance of black/white with colour at zero.
- Intermittent audio.

- Loss of memory when you switch off the TV and in standby you need to be 5cm from the TV to start it up again despite the TV operating well. Battery is ok.
- No NICAM sound.
- Switching transistor TP24 fails repeatedly.
- Teletext moves vertically. Appliance functions very well when Teletext is not displayed.
- The sound cuts out when warm.
- Very poor colour. Looks like indent fault.

- No sound or signal.

- Does not switch on and no standby.
- Pulsates once with line transformer then line BU blows and power supply pulsates twice. When line transformer starts up for the first time, arcing between deflector and tube. (FF451 tips)
- TL17 shorts at start up.
- Sound makes a noise on both channels and is dependent on the volume setting.
- Loss of memory. Crackle in sound. Flashing picture. Distorted µPC. No sound only noise. No stereo reception. Does not always start up. Wrong values which cannot be changed. Wrong colours and distorted PIP-function.

- Double picture. Picture shifted 1mm.
- No NICAM sound. Normal sound OK.
- White line approx 10 cm from top of picture. Other functions ok.
- Flickering on channel 60 and on special channels.
- Volume alters by itself or sound is distorted.

- Blurred colour blobs on screen.

- No brightness (intermittently).
- Power supply switches off.

- Empty lines in top part of picture.

- Popping noise at switch on. (Nicam model).
- No switch on from main switch or via RC.
- Unstable picture. Horizontal interference on the screen. The sound crackles.
- Brightness problem, display works well but no variation. Contrast and colour ok. Clock data and enable data ok.
- Remote control operation problem. Microprocessor memory and new quartz. New remote control. Remote control information reception on the microprocessor.
- Channel tuning possible up to channel 45. 5 is obtained on channel 39 and afterwards no fine tuning possible. Eg. 2 on channel 59.
- Fuse FP05 (1.6A) blows sporadically without any obvious reason after an extended running time (approx 1-2 months). After replacing appliance runs perfectly again.
- No picture. No audio (intermittently).

- Picture is too dark - coloured edges on the right. (SABA - FF451 information)
- After 5 mins stations disappear. Wrong characters with the volume OSD. Colours and size change.
- VHF band 1 fails occasionally. Snow and sizzling in the sound. Band 3 and high channels are ok. (SABA - FF451 information)
- Red picture (after a while).
