FF455 / SABA [TV (Standard)]

The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers supplies the following faults for FF455 / SABA.

List of fault symptoms:
  • TV cuts out intermittently. No sound. (part of circuit diagram displayed)

  • Dead. Standby LED lit .

  • Line output transistor fails repeatedly.

  • Part number info: processors.
  • Horizontal lines.
  • Slight picture jitter in the vertical synchronisation. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Sound pops.

  • No sound. Good picture then goes into stand-by after 5 mins then starts up again after pressing a channel number 3 or 4 times.

  • No stereo reception on channel 60.
  • No sound, picture is ok.
  • Picture shifted vertically. at top.
  • No picture. Single lines approx 2ins apart. Raster appears if height or field shift adjusted. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • No UHF or VHF on the tuner. Pin 6 of the UHF on 33V permanently.
  • Hum bar. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Switches to protection mode. after start-up.
  • Vertical displacement of approx 5cm towards the top of the screen when warm.
  • No start-up (intermittently). (picture attached)
  • Fades out or very dim.
  • Picture may distort if TT module fitted.
  • Picture is missing, random lines on screen.
  • Top half of picture has squiggling verticals which alter with field shift/height. Picture may blank out with coloured lines dependent upon vertical shift position, accompanied by rasping noise from PSU!
  • Intermittently switches off ten consecutive times or just once. Mostly switches on again automatically. No LEDs lit when switching off.
  • 3 to 4 pulses of line transformer then nothing.

  • Fuse FP05 (1.6A) blows sporadically without any obvious reason after an extended running time (approx 1-2 months). After replacing appliance runs perfectly again.
  • No picture content. After switching on bright picture with colour flecks, same picture without HF signal. Sound OK.
  • No UHF, VHF reception. Similar picture without an aerial.
  • Channels 1, 2, 3 and 4 ok but teletext is green. (picture attached)

  • Appliance functions in VHF but not in UHF. Snow is present.

  • No clock signal in 14 of the IV21. No Y signal in 41 of the IV21 and no light.
  • The picture goes wrong all the time in the vertical direction. A black band appears at the bottom. The capacitors at the level of the raster IC are ok. Solder joints have been redone.
  • No UHF channels. when cold.
  • Primary power supply fails under load. (picture attached)
  • No fastext. Normal text OK. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Colour bleeding.
  • Stops at random, standby LED off. Start up again possible by ON/OFF switch. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Intermittently blocks in AV. The channels remain displayed on the display.
  • After an hour dark screen, no sound, display is correct. The display remains on the channel selected then a moment afterwards goes into standby.
  • Random clicks with Nicam sound.
  • Line tearing in TXT.
  • Standby LED flashing in standby mode. (FF455 tip from SABA)
  • Intermittent crackling in the picture (horizontal black lines).
  • Intermittent audio.
  • No B-Y. (picture attached)
  • No or low start-up volts at IL14.
  • The picture amplitude is too small. The whole of the picture is recorded in the lower half of the screen.
  • Sound VHT is correct but there is no picture and the screen is black.
  • Dead (intermittently). (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Bright screen for short period of time, after this just snow confusion and crackling noises in sound.
  • No tuning (after a few minutes).
  • At switch on, after 15 secs, dark screen with a few horizontal white lines between the middle and top of screen. Picture returns with geometry fault, if PG08 is turned. Sound ok.
  • Sound reduction. It sometimes returns when changing channels.
  • Loud noises from speaker (at switch-off).
  • Audible whistling from the back of the cabinet.
  • Power supply BU blows after 10 secs. Correct power supply attempted with line transformer load disconnected.

  • Picture jitters.
  • Vertical collapse. at top.
  • Bright picture after 2 secs from start-up and no contrast. After 5 secs picture is OK.

  • After deprogramming, followed by a reprogramming, TV functions but the channels have each increased by 9 units. Eg.: 2nd channel is 49 instead of 40. Hence it is impossible to receive channel 62. (service info for SABA -FF455)
  • White line approx 10 cm from top of picture. Other functions ok.

  • No power supply and the stand-by light is lit on.
  • U5 voltage incorrect.
  • Channel indication flashing 1, will not tune or adjust.
  • Intermittently unlocked colour.
  • Loss of memory. Crackle in sound. Flashing picture. Distorted µPC. No sound only noise. No stereo reception. Does not always start up. Wrong values which cannot be changed. Wrong colours and distorted PIP-function.

  • All programme numbers tuned to the same channel.
  • Pop at switch on.
  • Display isn't synchronised and has black horizontal line on picture instead which disappears when pressing TV key on RC but comes back again.
  • Occasionally the picture is red with flyback lines.
  • Blank screen with coloured dots/interference and possible smell of over heating.
  • Colour cuts out occasionally.

  • RV82 (10R) on tube board blows repeatedly.

  • Thump from speaker intermittently.
  • No synchronisation. TXT OK .
  • Loss of channel 1.

  • No 22V line but ok when DP43 removed.
  • Set blocks (operation via RC or via user control only possible, after the set has been switched off and on again by mains switch.
  • Terrestrial channel in background of Satellite transmission.
  • Shifts 8 channels after being put back into service mode.
  • Voltage U5 21V goes to 35V when appliance is warm. Vertical displacement. The other EHT secondary voltages are stable.

  • Thumping noise from one channel at switch on.
  • Low gain.
  • Snowy picture. After 3 mins picture returns to normal.
  • VCR problems.
  • Picture height is shrivelled to 10cm. A few rolling horizontal lines in the middle of the picture.
  • Protective circuit malfunction.
  • No picture and no direct display of the channel possible. Picture shifts.
  • Blocked on channel no 1 in manual and in RCU.
  • Trips then shuts down.
  • No V1, V2 or VS supplies.
  • No sound at switch on. Sound returns when channel is changed. Fault only occurs at start up.
  • No channel storing.
  • Poor audio.

  • Sometimes CTV starts up and functions. When the CTV is functioning, it stops then starts up again all by itself.
