FF479 / SABA [TV (Standard)]

The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers supplies the following faults for FF479 / SABA.

List of fault symptoms:
  • Intermittent colour.
  • Storage battery explodes HD404918 A08

  • Crackling, occasionally squealing after operating for approximately 20 mins.

  • The picture amplitude is too small. The whole of the picture is recorded in the lower half of the screen.
  • Wrong display. Low light with no picture or sound.
  • Black screen. All the voltages are correct. The sound, line transformer and the G2 are ok but the screen remains black.

  • Remains in PAL when cold.

  • Top half of picture has squiggling verticals which alter with field shift/height. Picture may blank out with coloured lines dependent upon vertical shift position, accompanied by rasping noise from PSU!

  • Programming impossible but responds in SERVICE mode.

  • Switches off a few times each evening after replacing transformer. Intermittently switches on again after a while. Sometimes needs to be switched on again.
  • Dead. Standby dot lights up for 1 sec. at switch off.

  • Red picture (after a while).
  • White screen, no picture. At start up displays 1 and after 5 secs 88, no function possible 5V OK, 20V OK.
  • Negative picture, striped and running through in UHF. OK in VHF.
  • Remains blocked in PAL.
  • Line output transistor fails repeatedly. at start-up.
  • Colour bleeding.
  • No picture. There is a white raster on the right of the screen.
  • No 22V line but ok when DP43 removed.
  • In cold state of the television receiver, the thyristor DL21 (ESM740G) in the vertical stage may not switch on. (picture attached)
  • High pitch whistle on sound, varies with volume mainly on IBA transmission but can occur on BBC.
  • Pincushion distortion. (picture attached)
  • After changing the CRT base, there is HT flashover which appears as crackling sound and flickering picture.

  • The picture goes wrong all the time in the vertical direction. A black band appears at the bottom. The capacitors at the level of the raster IC are ok. Solder joints have been redone.
