FF503 / SABA [TV (Standard)]
The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers
supplies the following faults for FF503 / SABA.
List of fault symptoms:
- No red in picture or TXT. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- The power supply blocks.
- Partial blanking of video info. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Programming impossible but responds in SERVICE mode.
- Power supply of the control micro is too low (micro has been changed). 3 Volts, CTV does not start up.
- Picture is too dark - coloured edges on the right.
- Chopper transistor is defective intermittently. (picture attached)
- Line output transistor TL31 fails. Works for days sometimes weeks. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- A1 voltage.
- After changing the CRT base, there is HT flashover which appears as crackling sound and flickering picture.
- Slow start-up. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Colour fails occasionally.
- Accepts tuning channel number but does not alter tuning.

- TP24 blown when appliance goes into standby.
- No search possible, snow.

- Sound pops.

- No sound at switch on.
- Desynchronisation of the OSD when changing channel or "display line adjustment" display circulates on the screen and is illegible. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Volume alters by itself or sound is distorted. (FF503 tip from SABA)
- Teletext graphics are incorrect with black bars down the screen.
- Does not switch on and no standby.
- Shuts down. after start-up.

- No EHT or power supply when switched on. 7V=6.3V.

- Dead. LED blinks .
- No tuning possible. Hum in VHF. Channel display correct.
- RC part number.
- Sound is very distorted on both channels when cold like when warm. All the other functions are normal.
- When increasing contrast or on bright video scenes, chroma disappears and 1 or 2 vertical fine black lines appear on left of screen.
- Horizontal line. at top. (picture attached)
- No fastext. Normal text OK. (picture attached)
- Loss of memory. Crackle in sound. Flashing picture. Distorted µPC. No sound only noise. No stereo reception. Does not always start up. Wrong values which cannot be changed. Wrong colours and distorted PIP-function.

- No audio.
- Line tearing in TXT.
- No synchronisation. TXT OK .
- Dark screen dark with vertical bright flyback lines. Picture suddenly appears leaving 2" band at top. (picture attached)
- Faulty TXT.
- Picture lacks height "top and bottom " and width "left and right". No correction possible. E/W distortion. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Vertical interference line (1/2cm wide) at left of picture on low channels.
- When going into standby with RC, impossible to start operating again with the RC and light flashes after a few moments. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- The 1.6A fuse is open circuit. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Dark picture with bright lines. Sound OK.
- Picture has severe distortion at top and bottom. Changes with line amplitude. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Intermittent loud distortion, a bit like motorboating. More likely to occur at high volume settings. (service info for SABA -FF503)
- Moire effect in the colour areas.
- Echo on picture.
- Blanking lines in the top part of the picture.

- Channel 60 and special channels flicker. U6 (30V) is too low.
- No display. after a few seconds. AV OK .
- Intermittently no adjustment of sound with RC. RC OK. IR receiver OK.
- Sound is lost intermittently.
- Hum on picture and noisy chopper transformer.
- No picture, only flyback raster visible with distorted raster.
- No reception and the display is in German.

- Black, green, pink, blue screen after start-up for 1 min, then goes to normal.
- No horizontal deflection (intermittently).
- Picture appears slowly. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Volume changes by itself or distorted sound.
- Line amplitude is too strong and there is a problem with the east/west cushion.
- No channel storing.
- Black and white picture if the receiver is on "Auxiliary".
- Switches off by itself. intermittently.

- Colour bleeding.
- No start up of PSU. 300V present.

- Remains blocked in PAL.
- TP24 is destroyed, following a circuit break and return to programme 1. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Occasional raster desynchronisation.
- Cannot be switched over from all channels.
- Popping noise from speakers at switch on.

- U5 voltage incorrect.

- There is 145V instead of 170V and there is too much L/T amplitude.

- Picture from the bottom to the middle of the screen. Not possible to adjust the vertical amplification. Black screen to the middle of the screen then picture from the middle to the bottom of the screen.

- TP24 gets hot and short circuits. Poor base command.
- No Canal Plus decoding.
- Dead (after start-up).
- Dark picture with 3 RGB lines. Sound available.

- Goes into safety 3 times.
- Occasional tuning drift and breakup of picture.
- Sharp picture but negative and pale. Service mode OK.
- Empty lines in top part of picture.
- Resistor RP01 on the power supply module burns.
- The TV locks in low range frequency. (picture attached)
- TP48 fails after a few days.
- Random clicks with Nicam sound.
- Top half of picture has squiggling verticals which alter with field shift/height. Picture may blank out with coloured lines dependent upon vertical shift position, accompanied by rasping noise from PSU!
- Missing B-Y.
- No B-Y. (picture attached)
- TXT functions for only 2 secs on high VHF. Functions OK on low VHF low and S channels.
- No UHF channels. when cold.
- When the appliance switches off, a spot appears on the screen. (picture attached)
- Trips three times at start up.
- Distorted text page numbers. (FF503 tip from SABA)
- S2000 in power supply defective after a few mins.
- Intermittent field collapse. Bright flyback lines rolling at centre of screen 3ins high. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- No scanning. When appliance is switched on green bars then they disappear. FBT is ok. Function is ok.
- OSD doubled in height. (picture attached)
- Non-linear. Cramped at top. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Reduced vertical and horizontal size.
- No standard switching. Blocked on PAL. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Vertical lines are jagged. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Various video faults. (picture attached)
- Only channel 21 is received in UHF. Picture and sound ok in VHF. Displays the correct channels.
- HT is low at approx. 152V and has intermittent tripping. (service info for SABA -FF503)
- HT value.
- No display on screen. Black line which moves around instead. TXT is not synchronised. When changing channel a black band appears at the top of the screen displaying V1 then disappears. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Unable to tune in fully.
- Shuts down.
- The appliance switches off automatically and loses its station memory.
- Occasionally colour fails.
- Picture height is shrivelled to 10cm. A few rolling horizontal lines in the middle of the picture.

- Occasionally memorized data of control unit processor is lost at switch on or switch off with mains switch.
- Picture and sound disappear after approx 5-10 minutes. Not heat-sensitive.

- Poor base command. TL31 at -0.4V instead of -0.8V, correct format. (FF503 tips)

- Dark screen with some RGB lines at the bottom of the screen and whistling near the FBT. Capacitor 1000/40V has been changed but fault persists. FBT has been changed but dark screen with hum then goes into safety mode.

- All adjustments at zero (brightness, colour, contrast). Channels are also at zero. Adjustments can be made at 50 but they are lost during standby or ON/OFF. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Colour fails occasionally.
- No IF signal from tuner.

- Intermittent loss of raster at switch on with white lines at the top. Flyback raster when acting on PG08 or when going to AV.
- Colour bleeding.

- Power supply doesn't start up.

- Incorrect horizontal linearity, right part of test pattern is wider than left.
- Loud noises from speaker (at switch-off).

- ICC7 chassis. N/S correction does not function properly. Initially no function.
- Program site is displayed but the appropriate picture does not appear. If fine tuning is activated, picture appears.

- Does not start up. 142V on line collector S2000, the standby LED scarcely lights up when appliance is switched off, a priori no diodes s/c. (FF503 tips)
- Switches off then starts up again, mostly when cold. When TV works, sound mute and background noise, but sound reappears at channel switch over.

- Black screen. Switches to RGB in Canal Plus. Sound OK.

- No stereo reception on channel 60.
- There is a moire effect on the screen for a short while and no sound.

- Loud crackling noise from right hand loud speaker at switch on.

- In safety mode there is no high level on the Ger. point if the disconnection of the line raster deflector and power supply is correct.
- Double picture. Picture shifted 1mm.
- No tuning.
- Intermittent crackle on sound.
