FF515 / SABA [TV (Standard)]

The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers supplies the following faults for FF515 / SABA.

List of fault symptoms:
  • Smearing in picture. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Occasionally there is a luminance problem when warm. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Channel raster has shifted by two or more channels.
  • Service information: Function of the E/W stage.
  • Channels 1, 2, 3 and 4 ok but teletext is green.

  • No field scan when switched on from cold. Field output thyristor DL21 may not operate. (picture attached)
  • Sound interruption and/or crackling.
  • Sound pops.

  • No channel tuning in search mode.
  • Channel numbers cannot be entered.
  • No sound. No picture. No OSD. Only purity spots.
  • Reduced vertical deflection. at bottom.
  • Hum bar. Vertical collapse. after warm-up. (picture attached)
  • Crackling sound on "Nicam".
  • Appliance switches over between VHF and UHF, instead only noise in the picture. (FF515 tips)

  • No TXT, although control shows appliance is in TXT.

  • Moire effect in the colour areas.
  • Smokes then switches off. (picture attached)

  • After an hour dark screen, no sound, display is correct. The display remains on the channel selected then a moment afterwards goes into standby.
  • No colour in PB from a Ferguson FV26D VCR when VCR is positioned under the TV.
  • Loud noises from speaker (at switch-off).
  • Poor base command. TL31 at -0.4V instead of -0.8V, correct format.
  • No sound at switch on. Sound returns when channel is changed. Fault only occurs at start up.
  • NICAM sound crackles and is distorted.
  • Dead. Standby LED does not light. Standby LED lit . No RC functions. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Reduced horizontal size. (picture attached)
  • Wavy picture on right side. Switches off after 5 to 10 mins. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Poor focus. (picture attached)
  • Loss of memory when you switch off the TV and in standby you need to be 5cm from the TV to start it up again despite the TV operating well. Battery is ok.
  • Only 1/4 inch of picture at left hand side. Remainder of picture blank.
  • When increasing contrast or on bright video scenes, chroma disappears and 1 or 2 vertical fine black lines appear on left of screen.
  • After a storm no sound and no picture. No light, filament lights up, line transformer ok. screen remains dark, light appears at switch off. (service info for SABA -FF515)
  • After deprogramming, followed by a reprogramming, TV functions but the channels have each increased by 9 units. Eg.: 2nd channel is 49 instead of 40. Hence it is impossible to receive channel 62.
  • Field collapse with RGB lines at top of picture. (picture attached)

  • Intermittent crackle on sound.

  • Low gain.

  • No UHF or VHF on the tuner. Pin 6 of the UHF on 33V permanently.

  • Code lock.

  • Blank screen with out of focus blob in bottom centre of screen.
  • Signal and tuning are missing.

  • No audio.

  • When appliance is switched on by the mains switch, the TV starts up for a moment, then goes into standby. Does not start up from the RCU.

  • Power supply switches off for a short time (hiccup) when channel is switched over.

  • No V1, V2 or VS supplies.

  • No EHT or power supply when switched on. 7V=6.3V.
  • The appliance does not work with the remote control, but requests from the appliance are accepted.

  • The display indicates 88.
  • Volume changes by itself or sound is distorted.
  • Contrast is low in text mode, TV and mix modes are ok.
  • After operating for 5 mins in black and white, it loses G2 and turns mauve.

  • Switching transistor TP24 fails repeatedly.
  • Missing B-Y.
  • Reduced vertical and horizontal size.

  • Intermittent loud "thump" from speaker.

  • Brightness problem, display works well but no variation. Contrast and colour ok. Clock data and enable data ok.

  • No brightness. Audio OK .
  • No STEREO reception on channel 60.

  • Moire pattern. when cold.
  • Service info: Unlocking the code lock.
  • After changing transformer LP03 burns. TL31 disconnected, 7V on DP37 and 145V on DP41 OK. BU508AT5 has been replaced by BU508A but fault still persists.
  • Intermittent motorboating noise on sound. (FF515 tips)
  • Hum on picture and noisy chopper transformer.
  • After changing the CRT base, there is HT flashover which appears as crackling sound and flickering picture.

  • Various breakdowns due to U1=7V. (FF515 tip from SABA)
  • No synchronisation. TXT OK .
