4203 / SBR [TV 42 (38/39) cm picture]

  • Channel change is not possible. Sometimes TV goes into standby and tries to switch on.
  • Incorrect horizontal centering.
  • One colour missing.
  • Rail voltage is only 83V.
  • Speaker problems.
  • Intermittently goes to standby when trying to switch on. Impossible to change channels. (SBR - 4203 information)
  • Picture blanking on left side and cramping at bottom.
  • No picture, blank raster until screen advanced then light screen with flyback lines.
  • Vertical bounce. Reduced vertical size.
  • No output from chopper control chip (TDA2581).
  • Top of screen has partial field collapse.
  • Tripping 2 to 3 times then has line pulling.
  • Lines in picture when using Japanese video appliances.
  • Insufficient height and vertical linearity incorrect when warm.

  • No or poor audio. Picture OK .
  • The picture width cannot be controlled. (4203 tips)
  • Picture is poor or missing and/or sound is poor or missing.
  • Picture pulling at bottom of the text display.
  • Regulator blows at switch on.
  • Rolling when brightness or contrast varied.
  • Line pairing disappears when brilliance/contrast is reduced.
  • Trips (intermittently).
  • Blank screen. after warm-up.
  • Picture alterations.
  • Reduced horizontal size.
  • Power supply makes a gurgling noise. 300V are present.
  • No function, fuse V1291 is defective.
  • Hiss in audio.
  • No picture. after warm-up.
  • No start-up. Protection mode activated.
  • Brightness uncontrollable at max.
  • Tripping.
  • No TXT.
  • Power supply "hiccups" when switching fluorescent lights on or off.
  • Colour fades to black and white after 2-3 hours. OK if left off for 10 mins then switched back on; then fault repeats. (4203 tips)
  • Bent verticals getting more severe as appliance warms up.
  • No green, permanently or intermittently. (4203 tip from SBR)
  • When switched off in standby an horizontal bar appears across picture tube. No audio. (4203 tips)
  • Vertical lines.
  • Dark picture when tuned to a strong picture, ok when tuned to a weak picture.
  • Excessive red.
  • When switched on from cold there would be intermittent line failure, wriggle flashing down the middle and tripping occurred.
  • AGC problems.
  • Rustling in VHF. EHT discharge.
  • Vertical foldover at bottom. after a few hours.
  • Coloured spot after switch off.
  • When cold HT varies.
  • Picture too green and cannot be adjusted. It improves after a while, picture tube OK. (4203 tip from SBR)
  • No or currupt TXT.
  • Loud audio.
  • Set would work normally for day but it would then suddenly trip two or three times, following by line pulling then shut down.
  • Horizontal roll.
  • No E/W correction. Pincushion distortion.
  • Maximum uncontrollable brightness.
  • PSU pulsates. No picture. No audio. LED is red .
  • Intermittent shut off 1sec then OK (picture size varies).
  • No or poor picture. Audio OK .
  • Too much brightness and/or very low contrast permanently or intermittently.
  • Power supply transistor 7156 S/C.
  • Display only shows channel numbers. E1 and channels cannot be adjusted.

  • Intermittently volume at maximum.
  • Safety test after repair.
  • Does not start up. F3 appears on display.
  • No HV.

  • Intermittent audio.

  • Uncontrollable bright raster with flyback lines.

  • On video text several letters are missing (mix-up).
  • Lack of min. chroma.
  • Plopping on sound.
  • Venetian blind effect.
  • Bottom foldover, top stretch.
  • No picture, just a smear on chroma. (4203 tips)
  • Lines in picture. at top .
  • The picture is too big, the coil S490 is burnt.
  • Distorted audio.
  • User commands not responding and RC indicator lit permanently.
  • Text appears to be scrambled, but ok in mixed mode.
  • Blank screen.
  • Intermittent loss of signals, leaving a noise free raster.
  • Peak white raster.
  • White screen. Audio OK .
  • Intermittent and unpredictable faults on sets with the tuner preset draws.
  • No horizontal output.
  • Colour control does not function.
  • Horizontal oscillation.
  • Field scanning collapses to a non-linear six-inch band through the middle of the screen.
  • Poor sound (after module replaced).
  • Remote working but not manual channel change or manual volume up/down, also on teletext if buttons only just touched, would double up or more on the numbers.
  • Modification for over sensitive trip circuit
  • Vertical foldover at top.
  • Pulling at the bottom of the text display.
  • After operating for several hours, field contracts and severe fold over at the bottom.

  • Intermittent volume, brightness or colour changes.

  • Only standby after switch on via power switch.
  • Wide band of TXT lines in picture.
  • Will not stop in search mode on K5 and/or K21.

  • No colour. after warm-up.

  • Dead.
  • Lower part of TXT display moving sideways.

  • Dropouts.
