4210TVC14 / SBR [TV 36/37 (34-36) cm picture]

The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers supplies the following faults for 4210TVC14 / SBR.

List of fault symptoms:
  • CTV functions for 1 hour or 2 days.
  • The TV functions for 10 days then cuts out. When left to warm up for 10 hours, no fault.
  • No tuner or scart reception. No channel display and no search. FBT ok, brightness present.
  • Lights up on key 29. Does not always respond to the codes of the RCU.
  • Picture appears slowly. Audio OK . (4210TVC14 tip from SBR)
  • 5cm of picture missing at bottom of screen. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • When put into standby a slight hum remains in the speaker. When restarted with the RC, standby light switches off and channel no. does not light up. Continuous hum.
  • Slight hum in loudspeakers in standby.
  • Electric arcs at the level of the tube socket and band on each side of the picture. Adjusting the line amplitude has no effect.
  • Line time base BU11A blows after a certain time. (with circuit diagram extract)

  • At switch on the verticals break up. Ragged verticals after 10 mins, vertical stability remains delicate according to the picture content. (with circuit diagram extract)

  • E/W picture distortion: Picture is bent inwards as if pincushion problem but with no black appearance.

  • Motor boating noise in standby. Everything else ok.
  • Hum in audio. Noise in picture. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Power supply pulsates in safety mode and no sound or picture. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • When put into standby the sound cuts out but picture is still apparent in black and white but is fairly dark.

  • No start-up. No display.
  • Occasionally the picture disappears and the power supply pulsates. On the screen, flyback lines pulsate with the power supply.
  • Line BUT11 blows when changing channels. (picture attached)
  • Vertical and horizontal picture instability.

  • Picture trembling according to its content.

  • Excess of white in picture, adjustment impossible. Colour and contrast ok.
  • TEA1039 and fuse blow at switch on.
  • Goes into PAL. Ok in test pattern, negative in video mode. Other functions ok.
  • Picture and sound interrupted briefly with strong noise mostly in AV and at random. (4210TVC14 SBR repair tip)
  • Value of voltages on CNX.

  • R3462 on the East/West circuit blows.
  • Occasionally unstable horizontal amplitude. Shock sensitive.
  • BUT11A destroy.
  • No start up of the power supply. Remains in standby with line BU disconnected. (SBR - 4210TVC14 information)
  • Power supply transformer blows after 5 mins.
  • Changes channel on its own. Switches to B/W occasionally. Switches on by itself when in standby.
  • Dead. after a few minutes.
  • Line BUT blows frequently.
  • Occasionally white flash. Picture ok.
  • No tuner reception, snow in picture and no sound. Occasionally some reception.

  • Blue screen at switch on, display not lit. No sound. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Loss of channel memory.
  • The IC 6300 is destroyed when the appliance starts up and the BUT11A may follow.
  • The television set switches off after working for a moment. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Power transformer blows after TV is off for a long time.
  • Coloured circle in middle of screen and no start up when previously switched off by ON/OFF switch from standby. When switched off by ON/OFF switch colour circle remains for a long time. (4210TVC14 tip from SBR)
  • Sound is normal but the picture type is not decoded. (4210TVC14 tips)
  • BU508A blows after working continuously for approx one hour.
  • Trips when cold. It is not possible to reproduce the fault by cooling the appliance. Functions normally after 10 minutes.
  • Shuts down (after warm-up).
  • OK for 2 to 3 hours then switches off.
  • Line transformer BUT11 blows after 5 mins. (service info for SBR -4210TVC14)
  • BUT11 and D6654 blow after 15 days.
  • Picture is green in colour but normal in black and white.
  • Sometimes at switch on power supply pulsates very quickly and noisily.
  • Corrective maintenance of the PSU.
  • No sawtooth frame at output of TDA2579. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • PSU pulsates. Switches to protection mode.

  • Switches off after a certain time. Control panel display is lit. Fault disappears when unplugging.
  • Smoke from R3500, 6502 and 6501. (part of circuit diagram displayed)

  • Picture flashes quickly according to picture content. Line output transformer hisses rhythmically to the picture. (service info for SBR -4210TVC14)
  • PSU pulsates when TV cold producing a broken up sound. Front panel LEDs flash. No EHT. Fault disappears when 13J and 12G are unplugged towards deflector and CRT board. Fault disappears after heating up for 2 mins.

  • Pumps at switch on. After a few attempts CTV starts up and functions very well then after a few days power supply TDA and BUT 11 blow. (SBR - 4210TVC14 information)
  • Picture is too wide, you do not see the M6 signal. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • 3320 blows instantly. (picture attached)
  • End stage BU blows at switch on.
  • Motorboating noise from speakers. intermittently.
  • Dark screen (intermittently).

  • Goes into safety via interface board.
  • Power supply hum on picture and chroma nuance. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Frizzy lines on screen when cold.
  • When the TV is in standby only the sound is absent. Everything else still functions.
  • PSU trips or does not start up. Fault sensitive to shocks.

  • Slight vertical jitter for several minutes. No start up at cold.

  • Power supply BU blows at second or third switch on.
  • No start-up (intermittently).
  • Volume varies.
  • Wavy vertical picture and poor instability during first 5 mins when cold. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • No start-up. No front display.
  • Too much EHT. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Impossible to memorise a new channel, search functions.
  • Power supply goes into safety mode via secondary 32V.

  • East/west problem. No east/west or line amplitude adjustment.
  • Flyback raster at switch on on the whole of the screen then occasionally disappears and comes back again before disappearing again after approx 20 secs.
  • Switches to standby.

  • Vertical deflection IC or line transistor often blows.

  • Problem in transistor line 6320 BC337 at bottom of driver.
  • Display flashes. Noise in the sound and darker bars over the entire screen.
  • Wavy vertical lines. (picture attached)
  • Severe whistling in sound and picture.
  • No or poor synchronisation.
  • Sometimes micro power cut or pulsating.
  • Blurred screen with picture shaped like a trapezium. Flashes.
  • No picture. Black screen, frame disappears. Sound ok. (picture attached)
  • 5322 and R3320 blow. BU508 is always intact.

  • Severe whistling on sound and picture.
  • No reception.

  • Horizontal stripe.
  • At start up EHT noise which increases then decreases to remain steady at a normal value. No display and no sound but significant hum. Dark screen with EHT.
  • Sometimes picture vibrates and FBT whistles excessively. (picture attached)
  • Red picture for 20 secs then normal when cold.

  • Loss of channels as soon as TV stops.

  • On the line circuit, the BUT11A is defective. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Intermittent flashes of light.
  • No deflection. No line. No raster. Only display functions with or without RC.
  • Grey picture and no video with colour lines at top of screen. OK in scart but no signal; at pin 22 of IC6104. 12V OK on pin 13, -21.5V OK pin 6-7 on the contrary on pin 10 with or without aerial signal 0.118V instead of 8V.
  • Black bars. (picture attached)
  • Contrast changes. Vertical jitter in picture.

  • Flyback line on a central band and on the entire height.
  • Power supply starts up then clicks 2 times.
  • Picture outlines are distorted by streaks. Occurs mainly when cold.
  • Picture drift.
  • Strong moire with colour saturation.
  • Problem in Canal Plus. Becomes B/W with decoder. OK with bright scenes
  • No picture, no sound and loud noise at switch on.
  • General information.
  • Chatters during 30 secs at start up when cold. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Raster and line unstable. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Poor colour. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • No sound, picture or scanning. The display is ok.
  • Resistor 3320 burnt, no visible S/C.
  • The very high tension reaches the tube. The current reaches the plastic case.
  • Poor vertical synchronisation. Weak contrast. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Functions at start up then 5 to 10 mins after there is a flash on the screen and appliance stops completely. General switch is on off.
  • Cycles on/off.
  • Rapid pulsation of the brightness, at the same time a horizontal line appears then disappears at the top of the screen.

  • No switch on when hot, LED remains off.
  • Green spot in centre of screen at switch off. (4210TVC14 tip from SBR)
  • Line BUT11 fails after a few days.
  • In scart, Secam or Pal picture coming from a VCR is ok but with a satellite demodulator, it is black and white in Secam but colour in Pal. (picture attached)
  • Blurry picture. Buzz in audio.
  • BUT 11A destroyed after operating for one month.
  • BU508 heats up abnormally.
  • It is impossible to change the regulation. The MP locks.
  • Audio module transistor blows after a month.

  • Vertical green bar on left side of screen after a line fault. (service info for SBR -4210TVC14)
  • BU 508 goes S/C in time base after a few hours. (picture attached)
  • Start up ok, dead after a few secs.
  • N/S fault. 10cm black band at top and bottom of screen. No loading but voltages are ok.
  • Vertical lines scrolling up and down the screen. Jagged verticals.
  • Smoke from R3500 in LF.
  • Line BU blows when started up.
  • Safety test after repair.
  • R3303 heats up slightly.
  • Does not start up in AV. Erratic display.
  • No start up and motor boating sound.

  • Stretched picture.
  • Becomes dead after 10 minutes in standby. When switched off, it starts up after 20 minutes. OK during reception.

  • CTV remains in U setting on the display, the channels do not go through when opening or closing memory, 1st digit U 2nd digit G is lit up.

  • CTV does not function in manual. Impossible to open the memory and to change channels. Ok via RC.

  • R3320 smokes.

  • Unstable horizontal amplitude.
  • Poor sandcastle signal on output of pin 17 of the TDA 2579N5. The signal given by the oscilloscope is the line signal.
  • At switch on fuse 1600 (1.6A) blows. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Supply voltage pulsates at channel switchover. Otherwise TV works normally.
  • No display. Noise from loudspeaker at switch on.
  • Vertical unstability when cold.
  • Loud noise on sound at switch on. Picture rainbow colours flicker.
  • Switches off by itself (after warm-up).
  • Memory loss on channels TVC14/110.
  • At start up the picture is distorted through scanning.
  • No synchronisation.

  • General switch on ON: the TV functions then after 3 to 5 mins there is a flash on the screen and everything stops. If the switch on OFF then is goes immediately to ON: dead.
  • At switch on, no display and noise in the loudspeaker.
  • Foldover at bottom of screen with a black part.

  • Black screen.

  • Power supply modification (valid for a module with 90 degrees only).

  • TEA1039 only blows occasionally when TV starts up.
  • PSU does not start up when cold.
  • 34V fails when connector 17G is connected onto the AST board.
  • No G2.
  • Space between the lines is too large and strong moire effect.
  • No raster. Distorted audio (intermittently).
  • BU blows or heats up too much.
  • TV ok but sound and brightness commands erratic when you go into standby via the RC and when appliance is started up by the RC. Everything returns to normal if you stop with the mains switch.
  • No colour.
  • Does not switch to standby.
  • No red at output of TDA3562. After replacement the same. Ok in PSU. Blue and green normal.
  • No scanning. Horizontal white line. Very random problem. Solder joints ok.
  • Appliance does not work with the remote control. Remote control is correct in the TV position.
  • PSU does not start up. Display ok.

  • Power supply goes into safety mode when 34V supplied to pin 2 on AST interface board.
  • Insufficient EHT.
  • No start up. Very significant vibration.
  • Too much THT when starting up. Flash of light on the screen.

  • PSU fuse 1600 blows at switch on.
  • Blue dominance in LF.

  • Power supply is destroyed if the brightness or the contrast is activated.
  • Front panel does not work. Sound increases to max at switch on or when changing channels. RC ok.

  • When appliance is switched on vertical instability. Picture trembles and 3cm wide coloured lines run down the screen. This disappears when appliance is warm.

  • Significant undulation of verticals when changing channels.
  • Switches to protection mode (after a few minutes).
  • Picture is narrowed half way up and pincushion on the picture.

  • Tube cuts out with sparks on the pins of the RGB amplifier board. Visible arcs going into the ground.
  • BUT 11A 6322 EHT part is s/c. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • PSU pulsates (intermittently). (picture attached)
  • Intense noise with beating.
  • At switch on black screen followed by green bars in the middle of screen. A few seconds later screen is blue and snowy but no tuner reception. Tuner ok. (with circuit diagram extract)

  • Does not display last channel at switch on. Blue screen half of the time at switch off.
  • E/W fault and purple spot at top of screen. (extract of circuit diagram attached)

  • Remains on channels 0 and AV with control panel.

  • No EHT. Sound ok.
  • No RC functions.
  • Intermittent flash.
  • Line BU blows. C2324 and C2325 have been changed.
  • Appliance blows from time to time and under shock conditions, but good solder joints.
  • After operating for a few mins, channel goes to AUX or 1. Impossible to change channel from control panel or RC.
  • Vertical line tearing.
  • When cold, small vertical jump and small horizontal stripes on the picture. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Curling in picture.
  • Brightness varies.
  • Line BU blows at start up. (once out of 3). C2320, 2324, 2325, R3321 have been changed. If start up is ok, appliance functions correctly. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Unstable top lines at switch on and when switching over channels. (picture attached)
  • But 11 blows at start up.
  • Defective R3462 (East/West). (picture attached)
  • No line scanning. Display ok.
  • Memory loss on channels TVC14/110.
  • Some colours are dominant and power supply hum on picture. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • With a bar pattern, white flash with flyback line at start up then fluttering at the white level, then ok. G2 voltage increases during these flashes. Same on the picture.
  • It takes 15-30 secs or even more for the picture to appear. Display lights up.
  • Noisy power supply.
  • Flyback lines or pulsating brightness when G2 is adjusted.
  • Venetian blind effect in picture. Moire effect.
  • Goes into safety mode when put into standby mode.
  • On switch on, the picture is completely white with flyback lines then the screen is completely black. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Jumps in the brightness or contrast. Occasionally stops then starts again.
  • No chroma in SECAM, ok in PAL. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Line transistor (BUT11AF) blows at switch on or after a few mins.
  • No E/W correction.
  • BUT 11 power supply blows after functioning for 4 days. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Deflection BUT11AF blows after 3 secs at switch on. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • The picture is extremely distorted and unstable. Incorrect video.
  • Connection of a loop system to the TV.
  • Reduced horizontal size. (picture attached)
  • Switches off by itself (after a few minutes).
  • Screen becomes blue. Ok when G2 adjusted but then traces of flyback lines. Screen becomes blue again when signal is cut out.
  • Tube does not switch on. No sound. Appliance switches on and front panel display indicates the channels correctly. (SBR - 4210TVC14 information)
  • The LF amplifier blows periodically (T6502, T6501).
  • Incorrect horizontal amplitude, bands on each side of screen.
  • Stripes on the picture or intermittent black and white picture.
  • No colour (intermittently). (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • At start up TEA 1039 blows after a week. (picture attached)
  • TV cuts out after 15 minutes. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • No picture. Sound OK. Tube heater lights up.
  • No audio.
  • The appliance does not start up. When switched on the transformer crackles for a moment then the noise stops.
  • No colour. Replace the TDA 3590 appliance. Correct power supply. The sandcastle does 12MS instead of 10MS. Correct width.
