5105 / SBR [TV 55 (51) cm picture]
The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers
supplies the following faults for 5105 / SBR.
List of fault symptoms:
- Spot on left side after switch off. (5105 tip from SBR)
- No or poor audio. Picture OK .
- Cramp at bottom of picture.
- 1/2 vertical scan.
- Too much brightness and/or very low contrast permanently or intermittently.
- Intermittent or no colour.
- Blank screen.
- Horizontal roll.
- After operating for several hours, field contracts and severe fold over at the bottom.
- Speaker problems.
- Blown fuse FS1191 (3.15A).
- Interference usually with bright scenes with colours disappearing into hum bars.
- Power supply transistor 7156 S/C.
- The appliance does not function, the power supply gurgles; this can be heard slightly in the sound. (5105 tips)
- No or intermittent audio.
- Coloured spot after switch off.
- The picture width cannot be controlled.
- Colour fades to black and white after 2-3 hours. OK if left off for 10 mins then switched back on; then fault repeats.
- Dark picture.
- Hiccupping and low brilliance.
- Distorted audio.
- Noise on picture and slight flashovers on sound. (service info for SBR -5105)
- Processing of "not standard" signals.
- No horizontal output.
- Defective E/W correction. Foldover of vertical elements in picture.
- Excessive red.
- No blue.
- Low horizontal amplitude after protection disabled by O/C 6560. (5105 tips)
- Intermittent flashing lines. Intermittent snow.
- Incorrect purity. (SBR - 5105 information)
- No 9V.
- Pincushion distortion. on sides.
- Background noise. (SBR - 5105 information)
- No audio. No picture.
- No or weak colour. (5105 tip from SBR)
- Regulator blows at switch on.
- When switched off in standby an horizontal bar appears across picture tube. No audio.
- No remote functions, remote control LED is on.
- No tuning. only on certain channels.
- Replacement of IC SAF1031P with SAF1039P.
- No picture, blank raster until screen advanced then light screen with flyback lines.
- Remote working but not manual channel change or manual volume up/down, also on teletext if buttons only just touched, would double up or more on the numbers. (service info for SBR -5105)
- Intermittent volume, brightness or colour changes.
- PSU pulsates. No picture. No audio. LED is red .
- Insufficient voltages in the HT line.
- No green, permanently or intermittently.
- Grey screen.
- Picture alterations.
- Changed code numbers.
- Power supply "hiccups" when switching fluorescent lights on or off.
- No low band.
- No functions. after start-up. Fault occurs intermittently. .
- When cold HT varies.
- Ok at switch on, but bending off verticals at the top of screen, getting worse as set warms up.
- Excessive blue.
- Changes channels by itselt; going from even to odd programme.
- Horizontal size varies.
- No vertical synchronisation.
- No horizontal deflection.
- No picture. Raster OK .
- No or poor picture. Audio OK . (SBR - 5105 information)
- Top of screen has partial field collapse.
- Video is missing, small amount of chroma.
- Switches on/off with a slight noise.
- Brightness uncontrollable at max. (5105 tip from SBR)
- Loss of one or two colours.
- Picture goes to peak brilliance, then hiccups.
- Dropouts.
- Dead. Hiccups.
- Horizontal bars. intermittently.
- Teletext is missing or intermittently corrupted.
- Maximum uncontrollable brightness.
- Intermittent colour.
- Intermittently volume increases by itself.
- Wide band of TXT lines in picture.
- Works ok for days then suddenly trips 2 or 3 times, followed by line pulling then shut down.
- Rustling in VHF. EHT discharge.
- Stuck in standby.
- No picture. Partial chroma displayed.

- No function, 300V can be measured at electrolytic C460.
- Flyback lines, picture turns white and disappears.
- No functions. Stuck in standby.
- 14" picture tube.
- Lower part of TXT display moving sideways.
- Intermittent spontaneous variations of user control levels (brightness, contrast, etc.)
- Poor horizontal synchronisation.
- Blows chopper.
- No E/W correction. Pincushion distortion.
- Replacement of tuner ECL2006 with UV418.
- Hiccupping.
- No or intermittent picture. after warm-up. (5105 tips)
- Will not stop in search mode on K5 and/or K21.
- Excessive vertical size. Picture rolls.
- Decoding errors on teletext.
- Erratic operation of channel change and/or RC.
- No start-up. Protection mode activated.
- Retrace lines (intermittently).
- Vertical lines.
- Predominance or intermittent loss of one of the three primary colours (red, green or blue).
- Safety test after repair.
- Picture would occasionally oscillate in size, very intermittent fault.
- Poor sound (after module replaced).
- No TXT.

- Connection of a loop system to the TV. (5105 tips)
- IC TDA2571AQ (4822 209 80646) no longer available.
- No green.
- Intermittently goes to standby when trying to switch on. Impossible to change channels.
- No flyback blanking.
- Shuts down then switches-on on very bright screen repeatedly.
- Intermittent loss of signals, leaving a noise free raster.
- Plopping on sound.
- Narrow white bright line superimposed across the centre of the screen.
- No colour. after a while.
- Incorrect vertical centering.
- Vertical bounce. Reduced vertical size.
- Switches on then off. EHT discharge is earthed. (5105 SBR repair tip)
- Service tips connected on Japanese VCR's.
- Width and east/west co-ordination are faulty.
- Focus problems.
- AGC problems. (SBR - 5105 information)
- One colour missing.
- Faulty TXT.
- Distorted E/W. No width adjustment.
- Intermittent shut off 1sec then OK (picture size varies).
- Bottom of TXT pulls.
- Starts up with retrace lines then shuts down after a while.
- Hanover bars.
- Pulling at the bottom of the text display.
- Line pairing disappears when brilliance/contrast is reduced.
- On video text several letters are missing (mix-up).
- Lines in picture. at top .
- Intermittent audio.

- Display only shows channel numbers. E1 and channels cannot be adjusted.
- No RC functions. No front panel function.
- Intermittently volume at maximum.
- Dark picture when tuned to a strong picture, ok when tuned to a weak picture.
- Peak white raster.
- Insufficient height and vertical linearity incorrect when warm.
- Picture is poor or missing and/or sound is poor or missing.
- Dropouts and EHT discharges when switching from very bright scenes to dark scenes (and vice versa).

- Horizontal ripples
- White screen. Flyback lines.
- Dead.
- Venetian blind effect.
- Protection mode activated.
- Hiss in audio.
- Vertical foldover at top.
- Intermittent dropouts at switch on.
- Text appears to be scrambled, but ok in mixed mode.
- No picture. Picture tube is hot and makes sounds.

- Trips (intermittently).
- No picture.
- The TV does not switch on. A loud buzzing can be heard.
- Ghosting effect.
- Modification for over sensitive trip circuit
- The picture is too big, the coil S490 is burnt.
- No synchronisation. in TXT.
- Will not change channels and sometimes go to standby mode when first switched on. (5105 tips)
- Retrace lines G2 high. (service info for SBR -5105)
- Reduced horizontal size.
- Rail voltage is only 83V. (SBR - 5105 information)
- Tuning drifts.
- Blank raster. Flyback lines.
- Low brightness.
- Tripping.
- Power supply dead, protection circuit triggered.
- No output from chopper control chip (TDA2581). (5105 SBR repair tip)
- Uncontrollable bright raster with flyback lines.
- No response to RC station and front panel commands, although appropriate LED flickers showing commands are being received. (5105 tip from SBR)
- Set would work normally for day but it would then suddenly trip two or three times, following by line pulling then shut down.
- 4 inches at the centre of the picture has teletext lines.
- Back up battery (1.2V) has a higher power failure rate.
- No picture, just a smear on chroma.
- Patterns in picture.
- Afterglow at switch off.
- No function, fuse V1291 is defective.
- User commands not responding and RC indicator lit permanently.
- Dark picture when strong aerial input signal is present.
- Line synchronisation and frame synchronisation are missing.
- Poor channel set-up. Picture quivers.
- Channel change is not possible. Sometimes TV goes into standby and tries to switch on.
- Replacing TDA2523 with TDA2525.
- Intermittent and unpredictable faults on sets with the tuner preset draws.
- Picture pulling at bottom of the text display.

- Horizontal oscillation.
- Tripping 2 to 3 times then has line pulling.

- Bent verticals getting more severe as appliance warms up.
- Blank screen. after warm-up.
- Coloured area on black and white picture.
- No or currupt TXT.
- Lack of min. chroma.
- Flyback lines dependent on brightness/contrast settings.
- Bright picture.
- No colour. after warm-up.
- Intense brightness present occasionally with flash back lines.
- Colour control does not function.
- Line oscillator off frequency.
- Rolling when brightness or contrast varied.
- Does not start up. F3 appears on display.
- Tripping with tripler disconnected.
- Tripping. intermittently. White screen.
- Bottom foldover, top stretch.
- Colour flashing.
- No raster.
- Vertical foldover at bottom. after a few hours.
- No red, permanently or intermittently.
- Intermittent black lines at top of picture.
- Shuts down. after warm-up.
- Humm and buzz and distorted picture.
- No blue permanently or intermittently.
- Only standby after switch on via power switch.
- No green signal output from IC (TDA3560).
- Field scanning collapses to a non-linear six-inch band through the middle of the screen.
- Power supply ticking, OK when tripler disconnected.
- Curved verticals, worse when warm.
- When switched on from cold there would be intermittent line failure, wriggle flashing down the middle and tripping occurred.
- No HV.
- No vertical deflection.
- Poor picture quality, smearing, milkiness, glistening peak whites or insufficient brightness.
- Loud audio.
- Excessive brightness. Flyback lines. Vertical jitter.
- Vertical collapse.
- Picture too green and cannot be adjusted. It improves after a while, picture tube OK.
- No picture. after warm-up.
- Power supply makes a gurgling noise. 300V are present.
- Incorrect horizontal centering.
- Protection mode activated. Bright raster.
- No function with manual or remote control operation apart from off/on.
