TS4451 / SCOTT [TV]

The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers supplies the following faults for TS4451 / SCOTT.

List of fault symptoms:
  • Safety mode comes into play.
  • Secondary voltages are low.
  • Vertical line approx 1/3 from left of picture. Hardly visible, but annoying.
  • No start up. PSU does not oscillate.
  • No colour, only on French channel "La 3".
  • Line transformer blows a few secs later after appliance is started up, line transformer has been changed but fault persists. Output voltage 8.2V instead of 15V on the power supply secondary with the line transformer removed.
  • Vertical foldover at top. Dark picture. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • White picture, flyback line and too bright.
  • Switches to standby. after a few minutes. Switches on by itself. after a while. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Does not stay on AV, switches sporadically back to HF programme site.
  • Picture runs through, impossible to stabilise.

  • Occasionally wide interference lines (similar to a defective HF-cable) appear on the screen. Picture is ok via Scart. (TS4451 tip from SCOTT)
  • No start up of line transformer.
  • Switches on, line transformer comes on then goes into standby immediately.
  • Plastic effect. Does not decode Channel +.
  • Switches off after approx 3 secs. PSU switches on with brief chirping noise and then switches off. (service info for SCOTT -TS4451)
  • Vertical stage is stuck.

  • Weak contrast.
  • Picture pulling on bright scenes.

  • No red (intermittently).

  • No audio (via SCART).

  • No memory during programming.
  • When warm picture foldover towards the bottom and horizontal flyback lines. Noise from the line transformer. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Tripping sound from flyback transformer, sometimes no picture, another time it switches itself OFF.
  • TL19 becomes hot and fails after approx 15 secs.
  • HT fails immediately after starting up. PSU switches to standby. (TS4451 tips)
  • Collector of the line line output transistor disconnects when soldered. (picture attached)
  • No colour. via SCART.
  • Power supply starts up for a few secs then collapses while pumping on standby light.
  • EHT starts. Line pulse then Stop. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • OSD appears on its own. Switches from stereo to mono a number of times. (service info for SCOTT -TS4451)
  • Horizontal transistor fails every few days.
  • Vertical bars. on the left.
  • Difficulty switching on at a high temperature (40°C). You can no longer switch on the appliance with the RC. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Distorted picture. Lines in picture.
  • Low contrast.
  • After being used for 2 to 3 weeks, the 1.6 fuse burns out when the appliance starts up.
  • Blackish bar after whites.
  • Grey picture with 6 flyback lines without picture content.

  • FP01 blows at switch on.
  • Slight reduction of raster amplitude.
  • Flag effect when playing back with a VPH6400 Thomson VCR. Ok via scart.
  • No frame sync in PB of recent rented cassettes.

  • HV and U-sys too low.
  • No RC. No sound, no channel change after changing IR receiver, with or without RC. Manual controls ok.
  • No picture at switch on. Picture appears when changing channel. (service info for SCOTT -TS4451)
  • No picture (intermittently). AV OK .
  • Volume of basic adjustment is too loud.
  • Intermittent switches to standby during programme or scene change. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • When cold picture is very white with flyback lines and hum in sound.
  • Volume varies (intermittently).
  • Functions very well via the scart socket. No UHF VHF reception. Display on the screen is correct, white screen. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • No line output funtion. OK at switch on.
  • Distorted picture (line amplitude, linearity).
  • Does not start up from standby, cracking is audible and appliance switches OFF, standby LED switches off.
  • Line frequency drifts slightly.
  • Bottom of raster is missing. Deflection incomplete.
  • Standby light lights up for 2 seconds then goes off. Appliance does not start up.
  • Picture jumps then stabilises in black and white always on the same channel out of all the channels available. (SCOTT - TS4451 information)
  • Vertical lines are distorted horizontally. E/W equalisation can not be adjusted correctly.
  • Raster weakened after a few mins and is reduced to a horizontal lines then TV goes into standby.
  • No functions. IR01 does not accept reset.
  • Primary power supply fails under load.
  • No horizontal deflection. Audio OK .
  • Occasionally no scanning is possible.
  • Poor start up performance of the power supply.
  • Picture is slightly displaced towards bottom of screen.
  • Starts up then cuts out, starts up again every 10 secs and so on.
  • Poor audio.
  • TP29 and TL19 fail after operating for 1 hr. (picture attached)
  • No horizontal deflection. Protective circuit trips. Standby light flashes. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Distorted audio. intermittently.
  • Adjusting the bell filter: chassis.
  • Occasionally sound and video drift on channel 64. Operation is good on the other channels.
  • White dotted lines appear on left of picture in VHF/Band I reception.
  • Does not start from Standby or switches off.
  • Power supply transistor S2000AF blows after operating for one hour. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • No colour (after a while).
  • No voltage on LP36 in secondary side.
  • One colour missing.
  • Amplitude and/or alignment vary intermittently.
  • Chroma fault. Intermittent coloured interference lines.
  • Normal sound, white screen, no picture, flyback lines. Impossible to reduce the brightness.
  • Power supply S2000 blows approx every 10 hours. (service info for SCOTT -TS4451)
  • At switch on slight line crackling and no start up. Red LED ok. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • TV does not start up or stops.

  • At switch on everything seems to be starting up well, EHT is established then 3 secs after the line oscillation is interrupted. 7V is now 13V and stays there. TV is apparently in stand by. (+ extract of circuit diagram) (SCOTT - TS4451 information)
  • The PSU runs continuously.
  • Commands performed with a delay.
  • Tripping (intermittently).
  • No EHT. Black screen.
  • No picture. Excessive brightness. Retrace lines.
  • Teletext clock stops. Each 5cm high part of the picture is missing.
  • White screen. Audio OK .
  • TV switches off when changing channel and with great variations in the beam current.
  • Occasionally TV does not start up and remains in standby.

  • The appliance goes to secondary safety mode. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • TP29 is destroyed after 30 minutes.
  • No reception. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • At the start of production of the new IKC2 chassis, in TVs not fitted in series with teletext, the following components have not been fitted.
  • Too much EHT.
  • Switches to standby. in PB.

  • Horizontal bars on picture during operation. This is accompanied by an audible signal distorting the sound.
  • Audible start up when cold. Switches off after 1 sec. After switching on again, only standby LED is lit. No other functions. Raster is defective (with circuit diagram extract)

  • Intermittent fault especially when cold. No vertical stability. No luminance for a few seconds then everything OK.

  • Line scan transistor is in S/C.

  • Dim picture.

  • Buzzing and chirping, then switches to standby.

  • Modification to improve AGC adjustment. (TS4451 tips)

  • Grey screen. No audio. OK via SCART .
  • Switches to standby (after start-up). No RC functions. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Vertical foldover.
  • Slow start-up.
  • Starts up at switch on with the red light lit. Impossible to go into standby via the control panel or RC. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Curtain effect.
  • There is little light.
  • No synchronisation. in TXT.
  • Tripping. Standby LED flashes .
  • Crackling in the speaker at start up and at switch off including standby. Slight noise in the speaker in standby. Occasionally trips at start up.
  • Intermittently switches off and on when changing channels or when picture has high beam current content.

  • Small flyback line at top of screen on left side.
  • Noise bar. after a few minutes.
  • Little or no light.
  • Humming on sound and the screen is dark. The appliance goes to stand-by after 2-5 minutes.
  • No function. Reset does not react.
  • No voltages at the secondary of LP36. Standby light on.
  • Only a palm high picture at bottom of screen.
  • Us is too high at 121Vpp instead of 52Vpp.

  • Line transistor blown after a few hrs.
  • Vertical lines run over the top part of the screen. (TS4451 tips)
  • After a short time the US voltage increases so that the TV cuts out. (TS4451 tips)
  • Occasionally static discharge. (TS4451 SCOTT repair tip)

  • The power supply starts up jerkily but occasionally does not start up at all. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • White line. in the centre.

  • Power supply transistor TP20 blows and so does the mains fuse FP01 after operating for a few mins.
  • TL19 (S2000AF) fails repeatedly.
  • Can not be switched on from standby via RC.
  • Impossible to change standard, remains in SECAM. Picture inverted in PAL.
  • No audio. via tuner. No picture. via tuner. OK via SCART .
  • No -1V at base of TP29.
  • The screen insertions are unsynchronised, if no aerial signal is present.
  • TV01 and TV02 are in safety mode.
  • Switches to protection mode (after start-up). (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Amplitude varies with the voltages.
  • In breakdown mode with 2.2K, pin 20 and 32 have been removed, EHT but 300V pulsates instead of 600 or 700V. 100V at the start of video but everything collapses if you refit DL13. (TS4451 tips)
  • TV01 blows after operating for 30 mins.
  • Power supply pumps when cold, red light flashes.
  • Pale grey screen with fine horizontal line and hum at start up of the line transformer. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Faint picture because CRT was defective.
  • Adjusting the R-Y demodulator: chassis.
  • Switches off immediately without becoming bright. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
  • Occasional crackling effect on the video signal.
  • HT oscillates and appliance stops.
  • At start up functions normally for 20 to 50 secs then goes into standby prematurely. (picture attached)
  • Switches off and on again at random.
  • Dark picture. after a while.
  • Memory loss with Canal Plus decoder.
  • Blurred picture which occasionally becomes normal again.
  • Excessive green.
  • Fluctuations of the picture according to the video content.
  • Switching off fault of the spot.
  • Switches off when changing picture and channel and then starts again. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Vertical fault. Black screen.
  • Vertical lines run over the whole screen.
  • At switch on starts up with severe noise in loudspeaker then stops and remains in standby.
  • No start up. No standby. (with circuit diagram extract)
  • Only a horizontal line in middle of picture.
  • Dark picture. Audio OK .
  • PSU chirps if appliance is switched on via power switch. After approx 5 secs everything is off.
  • When playing back a cassette previously recorded by the same VCR, colours may be lost or blue flash interference due to the PAL pulse of the TV being triggered. (service info for SCOTT -TS4451)
  • PSU fails immediately after start-up.
  • TV only starts up very rarely, when it does start up, RL26 smokes, the deflectors heat up and smoke, distorted picture and the colours fade.
  • Fuse FP2 (630mA) blows.
  • Power supply pulsates intermittently when cold or warm.

  • Appliance switches off and switches on again, changes channel and there are great variations in the beam current.
  • Pulsates if TV is started up after being put into standby.
  • Incorrect oscillations on line BU (S2055).
  • Slight raster distortion at top or bottom of screen, depending on defective diode. (TS4451 tips)
  • White horizontal line at top of screen. Rest of screen is black.
  • Standby light remains on at switch on. No picture, no sound, no function from RC or control panel. Slight noise from PSU as if TV trying to switch on.
  • Switches on but no user controls from front control panel nor from RC. Does not even switch to FF.
  • Does not find channels or finds one channel tuned incorrectly.
  • Bright picture. Flyback lines.
  • No picture, only three lines two thirds of the way down the screen. Goes into SAFETY mode after 1 min. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • Position of RA13 and RA15.
  • Shuts down. at start-up.
  • No start up except at a certain temperature. Standby ok. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • Vertical foldover at bottom.
  • White picture with stripes. Switches off after a short while. (service info for SCOTT -TS4451)
  • TP29 has a short circuit and FP01 blows after a short time.
  • Vertical amplitude is too low.
  • After changing FBT which sparks, the very high tension is ok. No light on the screen even when forcing G2 44469905.
  • Comes on for a short time.
  • White stripe at the top of the screen. It is 1cm high and not as wide as the screen. No picture.

  • When warm picture and sound increase then switches into standby. (picture attached)
  • No start-up. Front LED lights up then goes off.

  • Picture with red as the predominant colour and flyback line apparent on the screen.
  • Defective picture, poor colour and white dot at switch off.
  • No sawtooth signal on raster. Horizontal bar appears at bottom of picture.
  • Hyperband re-fitting.
  • Picture and sound hang up.

  • The appliance has a dark picture.
  • Black screen. via RF output. OK via SCART .
  • Poor audio (via SCART).
  • Attempts to start then smoke appears.

  • PSU does not strat.
  • No audio. when cold.
  • No red.

  • No start-up. LED is red .
  • Does not start up. Standby lit. Slight motor noise in speaker.

  • Collapses at switch on. Functions normally when first switched on
  • Occasionally changes channel by itself, channels run through or the function band appears. Occasionally when in standby, the TV switches on all by itself. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
  • White screen with flyback line or no brightness.
  • Programmed on channels but still only snow. Selector does not react on channel inputs.
  • In VHF range (channel 5-12) white flecks and grey haze in the picture.
  • High voltage transistor fails repeatedly.

  • No voltage at secondary.

  • After appliance has been moved, strange colours. Red has become blue and screen is affected by a mauve halo.

  • The TV starts up. A white line appears at the top of the screen. System tension: voltage is approximately 58V, and the other voltages are low.

  • Random coloured flash.

  • Rainbow effect on top of screen.

  • Remains in "burst" mode with a hum noise in LF. (TS4451 tip from SCOTT)
  • No start up of PSU, sometimes intermittently.
  • Picture is green, red and blue with flyback lines.
  • At switch on there is a noise and light goes out. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
  • At switch on, the appliance goes to stand by. After trying to start several times the TP19 and TP29 are damaged.
  • Starts nomally but if appliance stops after heating up for some time, TV flashes and may take a long time to start up again. (with circuit diagram extract)

  • Dark picture. Can only be slightly adjusted.

  • TP29 blows occasionally at start up or after operating for some time.

  • Moire effect picture according to sound frequencies, on some frequencies the picture is ok for a fraction of a second. Melf RP54 is not present on the CTV chassis.
  • No sound. No line transformer and standby LED is on.
