GX8000 / SENTRA [Video recorder - VHS HiFi]
The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers
supplies the following faults for GX8000 / SENTRA.
List of fault symptoms:
- Capstan motor turns too fast after selecting CUE or REV.
- No colour. (picture attached)
- Dead, apart from some pieces of gibberish in the display. (GX8000 tip from SENTRA)
- CUE and REV do not function. Capstan runs quickly when these buttons are pressed. (SENTRA - GX8000 information)
- No colour during timer recording. (GX8000 SENTRA repair tip)
- Programming is not possible.
- Appliance accepts a cassette but then no further functions, including eject. (GX8000 tip from SENTRA)
- No function. Clock OK.
- PB is ok, but the EE picture is noisy. (part of circuit diagram displayed)

- All functions off, no display and no power light lit.
- The appliance is dead or there is no clock or functions operative for 3 to 30 minutes. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Poor or noisy REW/FF.

- Capstan motor drive is missing.
- Intermittently clock fades away.

- Difficulty loading.
- No operation.
- The capstan motor does not start during play and the appliance unlaces again. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Switches off in REW.
- No function, the power lamp does not light up.

- No E/E function, refuses cassette. The station display does not light up. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Failure to initialise.
- Goes into play then immediately returns to stop. (GX8000 SENTRA repair tip)
- No start-up.
- Usually will not stop during search tuning; sometimes stops and stores but when channels are changed the previously stored channel remains for 5 secs before changing to the newly stored channel.
- Dead no functions.
- When timer "on" is operated the appliance starts to play. The clock and the timer do not work. (picture attached)

- Dead - no clock display.
- Noisy picture during or following trick-mode operation.
- After plugging in the mains plug, the power LED lights, but the appliance does not take any other functions. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Squeaks in play, ok when pause selected.
- When reset fails to work set appears to be in timer mode with operate and record led on and no display.
- RCU does not work. (GX8000 tips)
- The appliance goes immediately to timer"on". Clock and timer do not work (with circuit diagram extract)

- Random failure to store channel information but only for channel 2.
- Squeaks in play and squeak continues when pause is selected.
- The head drum motor does not run. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Noisy FF and REW.
- No function. No display and power LED does not light up.
- Dead.
- Intermittently dead.
- Playback and own recordings are badly distorted. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Occasionally only half video picture visible, occasionally with interference. Looks as if it could be a worn video head.
- Unable to operate the appliance from the remote control.
- The head is defective.
- Squeaks in play. Squeak stops when pause is selected.
- Will not tune properly. (GX8000 tip from SENTRA)
- Does not accept a cassette/other loading problems.
- The clock can be adjusted, but the timer function is disturbed. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Dead. Looks like power supply fault and no clock.
- Difficulty in tuning channels B and D.
- Various Y/C faults, eg. unlocked colour. (GX8000 SENTRA repair tip)

- Lose timer and clock information during a power interruption.
- Snowy PB picture.
- No functions or displays.
- Line synchronisation is missing. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Tuning drift after a few hours.
- PB or REC for a while, then stops.

- Stations can be tuned but not stored. The VMM voltage has risen from -28.7V to approx -22V. (extract of circuit diagram attached)
- Runs slow after 1/2 hr. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Does not tune channels.
- Clock and screen functions missing.
- Searches for channels continuously. Channel changed after a few secs.
- Capstan motor speed varies when hot.
- Tuning does not work correctly. After a short time the tuner is intermittent. (with circuit diagram extract)
- The tuning drifts, the memory is faulty. (with circuit diagram extract)
- During PB of a pre-recording the colour in the top half of the picture is darker. Using an own recording the picture jitters badly or it runs through. (extract of circuit diagram attached) (GX8000 SENTRA repair tip)
- When connecting to mains via the AV socket appliance switches every TV over to AV.
- The tape is stuck, freeze frame jitter the timer does not work. Programming is not possible. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- No tape transport. After replacing idler wheel this is no longer pressed against the motor shaft of the threading motor.
- After approx 1 sec in CUE switches over to FF.
- Appliance stops after just a few minutes in record mode.
- Switches off in REC, both in normal and timer modes. PB OK.
- Would accept a cassette but after that there were no further functions, including eject.
- Does not accept tape.
- Appliance is affected by mains-borne noise, eg. when a fluorescent light is switched on or off. Unit then eg. enters stop mode.
- Occasionally bad picture.
- VCR dead or no clock and no functions for 3-30 minutes. (picture attached) (service info for SENTRA -GX8000)
- The lacing motors do not function. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Reel motor drive missing. (GX8000 tip from SENTRA)
- No sound on PB and E-E mode.
- No functions and tape ejected.
- On PB the sound howls.

- Tape remaining counter reads four hours with certain three hour tapes.
- Appliance will not search forward or reverse, goes to stop and then winds. (+ extract of circuit diagram)
- Low sound level or poor h.f. response.
- Occasionally capstan motor runs too quickly. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Appliance is dead, channel LED is lit.
- Set shuts down intermittently or sometimes fails to power up from cold.
- Capstan is intermittently too fast during PB/REC. No REV (no LED display).
- Appliance switches off during rewind.
- Picture runs through vertically. Fault does not occur regularly.
- No drum/head rotation.
- The remote control operates only once.
- Crackling on sound, EE and video.
- Lines in the picture and the sound is distorted. (picture attached)
- Intermittently cassette or tape loading motor stops. (with circuit diagram extract)
- Intermittent erratic functions. (service info for SENTRA -GX8000)
- Occasionally capstan does not run. When it does the picture search starts running fast and can only be stopped by switching the appliance ON/OFF. (part of circuit diagram displayed)
- Not accepting cassette.
