1401 / TAI [TV]
The EURAS repair tip database for professional technicians and service engineers
supplies the following faults for 1401 / TAI.
List of fault symptoms:
- Picture snowy looks like a tuner fault.
- Tripping (intermittently).
- Tuning drifts (intermittently).
- Intermittent frame bounce.
- Horizontal shift fault.
- Low width and a dim picture, improving slowly over about an hour.
- When volume increased row of dots indicate volume still at minimum. (service info for TAI -1401)
- Infra-red receiver does not function.
- Chopper transistor TR13 S/C.
- "O" symbols with tails fill screen on TXT; bar for analogue settings flash.
- Ghosting effect.
- Field sync is missing.
- Snowy picture and field roll.
- Intermittently RCU does not function.
- No vertical deflection.
- Occasionally appliance switches off.
- Red, blue or green luminance signal is missing.
- Goes back to channel 1.
- Protection circuit trips too early.
- Field roll with a snowy picture.
- EHT missing, line timebase ok.
- Incorrect frame linearity.
- Blank raster but sound and on screen display ok.
- Reverting to channel 1.
- Field sync fault.
- LEDs not lit or only partially lit.
- Switched mode power supply trips when warm.
- Intermittently changes channel by itself. Volume varies and goes to standby.
- Picture is grainy and sound noisy.
- Height is reduced and picture foldover.
- Dark picture.
- Width is reduced and picture is faint.
- Stripes over the picture.
- EHT brushes or arcs.
- Vertical jitter.
- Intermittent loss of signals and randomly unhappy about channel three selection.
- Blank raster.
- Intermttently powers down.
- The appliance has a dark picture.
- Sound and vision (drop out, signal missing).
- Channels cannot be tuned in or stored.
- Various symptoms:- no tuning, no sound, full sound, dead set etc. (1401 TAI repair tip)
- Stuck on channel 1. No signal intermittently.
- There was a snowy raster but no sound or channel indicator illumination.
- Stuck in standby.
- Frame collapse with no sound.
- Picture has moved to one side.
- Excessive brightness. Flyback lines.
- Set does not start up.
- Reduced horizontal size.
- Poor line sync and intermittent colour.
- Reduced vertical size.
- Intermittent manual channel change.
- Channel display number does not correspond to channel.
- Vertical collapse.
- Blank raster. Audio OK .
- TXT lines.
- Displayed channel no. does not match the channel.
- Tuner only memorises stations with even numbers.
- No contrast.
- Dead or intermittently dead.
- Brightness fault. (1401 tip from TAI)
- Appliance trips when changing channel.
- Signal is intermittent.
- The output of the power supply falls slowly until the point where the field cramp becomes apparent.
- Frame synchronisation poor.
- Poor picture quality, smearing, milkiness, glistening on peak whites or insufficient brightness.
- Stops tripping if C811 PSU is disconnected.
- No colour.
- Dead.
- No audio. No picture.
- Frame oscillator does not function.
- Focus problems.
- No picture.
- Field bounce or jittering.
- The appliance is dead (tripping).
- Dead. PSU pulses.
- Channel changes at random.
- Incorrect line speed.
- Raster is blank only flyback lines present. (1401 tips)
- Field collapse, no sound.
- Vertical foldover at top and bottom.
- Unstable picture, line hold control has no effect.
- Inadequate colour identification.
- Frame collapse or intermittent frame collapse.
- Only snow, no display.
- Striations and flyback lines.
- Synchronisation is missing or intermittently missing.
- Line oscillator does not function.
- Insufficient height or the height varies.
- Intermittently dead.
- Ballooning effect.
- Outside of picture is wavy (depending on beam current).
- Blanking problems.
- Raster is green with flyback lines.
- Trips.
- Raster is blank with flyback lines.
- No raster. Sound OK. (1401 TAI repair tip)
- Appliance trips when warm.
- Field blanked from 1 to 3 inches at top of screen.
- Picture tube is not lit. (TAI - 1401 information)
- Reduced field scan with foldover.
